Ranu paused by a old house, looking in. He looked in the open doorway and looked down at a child's toy, sighing.

Ranu drew back, tearing his eyes from the toy. The male knelt down and picked up his pack, then drew on his satchel, looping it over his shoulder. He looked up at the sky, eyes falling east. "I go now to die," he said softly, "And may the powers forgive me, I eagerly await it. Maybe men's souls go to where elves dwell and I may see my friends again..." His head lowered, then he raised it again, setting off down towards the second spire of the city.

Kareswen started going up without waiting for a reply. Her curiosity was growing and she assumed Venerah would either catch up or wait for her to come back. She was still cautious, but her head swivelled as she remembered places and people who had once lived there. Tears came to her eyes unbidden.

Ranu slowed. His head tilted as he drifted closer to the wall, lifting the hood on his cloak and resting against the wall so he blended.

She forced them away, running her fingers gently over the side of the house as she walked forwards, remembering doing the same as a child.

Ranu ghosted closer, shifting his weight slowly. He noted she caressed a door, wondering if she was a former resident. He ghosted along, eyes fixed on her.

Kareswen reached the end of the building and knelt suddenly, her finger tracing faded lettering on the wall. Her name, where she had scratched it years ago. It had blunted her knife and taken hours. but she had done it.

With a sudden movement, Ranu drew his sword and pointed it at the females throat. "Hold." he hissed, "What is your intent here."

Kareswen froze, startled from her memories, cursing her idiocy on not keeping a better lookout. Now someone held a blade to her throat. She raised her hands, palm outwards, so that they knew she couldn't reach a weapon, then stood up slowly, not daring to turn to her face him or make any sudden moves with his blade still at her throat.

"I'm Ranu Blackheart. One of the few who stayed to the end to ensure all the civilians got out," Ranu spat, watching her, his sword drew back as he asked, "Were you here?"

Ranu's expression shifted to be emotionless. "I see. May I enquire as to why?" He run a hand over his scarred cheek, a nervous tick as he hid a wave of disgust. Cowardly elf.
