Rei continued on doggedly, but the ground shook under his feet again. He nearly fell over, but caught himself in time. Though he took a moment to plant his feet solidly and just stand there, to make sure he didn't stumble yet again. What was going on here?
Caliban eyed the pockets of shaking ground. He still didn't see any sort of pattern.

Goliath kept hopping between areas that were shaking and had shaken before. There was still not a definable pattern, but he was still finding safe ground to land on.

When the ground shook this time, Caliban didn't bother fleeing. He braced his legs and grimly rode out the rumbling.

Goli was thankful that the next spot he chose to jump to was a quiet one. What else were they missing? The cliffs were solid, but there wasn't a way up to the ledges. The ground was sporadic, but in small areas. So what have they not noticed yet?
Jax walked on and nodded at the mudkip. "Yeah, Lain is a Masquerain and a Masquerain is a flighty bug-pokemon. She was really ditzy....and loud. I do wonder where the winds took her though." She says, looking up at the tops of the canyon walls where the winds rush about.
[[You notice that the shaking seems to be moving up and down the path.]]
As if on cue of noticing three separate things, two sandshrew poked their heads out of the ground, and the shaking stopped.

Caliban snorted in annoyance. The pup had been right – there was his pattern. These Sandshrew had simply been tunneling back and forth along the path. Why had the Leafeon not noticed sooner?
Marmalade sighed with relief when the shaking stopped. She took a moment to fluff her ears and hopped over to the sandshrew. "Hello," she said politely. "Was that you causing the shaking?"

Chi blinks in surprise as the sandshrew appear. 'Well, at least now we know why the ground was unstable. Do you think they'll be able to aid us? Maybe they know the way through the canyon to... where ever we were going.'
Thankfully thy didn't have to shout any more with the shaking having been stopped.
The trip abruptly got easier when a pair of Sandshrew popped up, apparently having been tunneling back and forth along the canyon. Rei started at them with Chi. "Perhaps. Though since we don't know where we're going, it's a bit hard to ask them if they know how to find it."
