Marisha yelped as the water balloon hit her and she felt the water rolling down her. She then grinned herself and grabbed another balloon when she realized that it was the boy who had gotten her earlier in this epic water balloon fight. Running into position she skidded on the muddy ground to a stop in front of him and threw her own water balloon in retaliation. Only to wince when it fell short and landed at his feet. It was just like her to give the enemy ammo.

Before Griffin could get very far, a balloon rolled over to him, as if asking him to throw it. He looked up, then around, to see if he could figure out where it came from. There was Marisha in front of him, looking awfully embarrassed. She'd probably tried to get revenge on him, but the balloon slipped. He'd had that happen a bunch of times, and it really made him feel like a dope.
The opportunity to just grab the balloon and hit her with it was right there, calling out to him. He even reached down and picked the balloon up. But taking advantage of her mistake wasn't the way that Griffin wanted to play. If someone tried that on him, he'd feel pretty bad about it, and he didn't want to make anyone else feel that way. This was supposed to be fun, not actual war.
So instead of throwing the balloon, Griffin bent down and gently rolled it back towards Marisha. "There. That one's yours, right?"
Then, without waiting for an answer, he ran off. He didn't want the other kids to think he was soft. If they did, he'd be nothing but a walking bullseye.
After his initial attack missed, Derek tried again. Picking up a bright blue balloon he lopped it in Eliza's direction and missed once again. Darn it.

Ralph's aim seemed to be getting worse and worse. He'd missed another student and sighed. The child stood there looking confused for a bit. Maybe he needed to find a new way to lob the balloons at other kids. He moved to the toy chest to look for something.... useful... Maybe a water balloon sling shot? That might could help get his mojo back.
It Certainly would help him aim further.

Briar's head turned automatically as a balloon splattered against a nearby bush, recognising the thrower as the boy who had distracted him earlier (Derek) - he'd gotten the other back for that at the time, but if Derek wanted a challenge then he wasn't going to be the one to turn it down either.
He'd tried to toss some confetti in the other boy's direction, but that hadn't worked out - but that was okay - he had a back up plan.
Scooping up a balloon Briar grinned before lobbing in the other boy's direction.

Or at least, the confetti on his hands was going soft. As he kept getting hit by balloons, bits started to flake off, and what remained was thoroughly soaked. It was no longer doing its job, helping him better grip his weapons. The balloon he picked up veered way off course when he threw it, hitting a tree. The tree was probably grateful for the water, but Griffin was just frustrated. Maybe it was time to hunt down that confetti bin again...

Marisha blinked as the boy rolled the balloon back to her. Her eyes wide as she wondered what possessed him to give it back when it had been a perfect opportunity to hit her with her own balloon. Watching for other flying missiles she quickly scooped up the balloon and blushed slightly before nodding to him. Then as he ran off she merely whispered a "Thank you.." before turning away to find another target. She may have wanted to get him back but he had defused that wanting by being nice to her.
She then spotted another kid nearby and decided to take out her confusion on that kid. Taking aim she threw the balloon. Only to watch as it bust on the ground instead..

When Briar's balloon connected with him, Derek ended up loosing his footing and falling right into a muddy puddle. Sulking, he wiped the mud off him as best he could. Course this only resulted in spreading it around in a thin layer... Great. Glaring he picked up his own balloon and threw it in retaliation.
....
Of course he would miss.
Of course.

A water balloon hit him solidly in the back as Briar dashed over to grab another balloon.
He did try to lob a balloon back in retaliation, but it hit the ground without exploding.
Briar eyed the soaking material that was his top wondering if a river would stream out if he tried to wring it out. The thought amused him - after all he'd certainly been hit enough times. Then again it was probably about even since he felt that he was giving as good as he got,
Moment of contemplation over Briar started looking around for a new target - he couldn't stand around too long - that just marked you out as a target.

Another balloon, another miss. This time, Griffin managed to pick up a balloon, only for it to flop around like a fish in his hands. He lost a hold of it, then grabbed it it again. It slipped between his hands, arcing into the air before falling back onto his own head. He choked and sputtered, wiping the water out of his eyes, and stomped off to find something else to throw.

Marisha doesn't let the miss get to her instead going for another balloon laying on the ground and quickly looking for another victim. Spotting one she quickly takes aim. Throwing it across the field it hits the kid smack in the back of the head soaking his upper body. Marisha hops in joy at her successful shot.

Derek thought about who to go after next when someone popped into his brain. So picking up a balloon he trotted around till he found his intended target. Once he found her, Derek proceeded to lick the balloon all over, and then get it nice and muddy before hurling it straight at Akane. Derek broke out in the biggest grin ever when it connected with her.
He had to keep trying. Griffin wasn't going to let slippery hands or speedy kids cheat him out of his desired outcome. Not after he'd put so much effort into it! To go back and sit on the sidelines now would be like calling all of his hard work useless. That just wasn't going to happen.
But when he picked up another balloon, and it burst in his hands before he could even throw it, he knew he couldn't keep this up forever. Letting out a frustrated shout, he tossed the wet piece of rubber down on the ground and stomped on it repeatedly. Did that help? Not really, but it did make him feel a little bit better.
Akane backed away from the germy, muddy water balloon. She wanted very badly to get away, but her body wouldn't move fast enough. It hit her and her shirt got mud all over it. "Aaah!"
She looked down at herself and was speechless. Her neat freak of a dad was going to be so mad about this. He was probably going to give her a good talking to about the importance of cleanliness before making her pretreat her shirt. She could see it now. She'd have to wait 'til the mud dried and scrape it off with a doggone spoon into the trash can. Then, she'd have to dip a toothbrush in detergent and finish it off. She hated doing laundry. Who cares if it was just pretreating, it so totally counted. That was her parents' jobs, not hers. Her job was to get good grades in school or something like that. She hated using knock off tools too. Don't they have real things made to do this in stores?
And don't even get her started on boy germs. "Ewww!"
That settled it. She had to get him back. She threw her next water balloon as high as she could. It flew through the air, into a tree, whacked a squirrel...and landed on the ground without hitting anyone. "Ffff!"
