The party was vibrant, and even with the passing of time it did not dwindle; on the contrary, it actually seemed to be building with those of different origins finding their age old and new feuds alike fade with the consumption of alchohol and the seemingly endless entertainment. The entire magnificent structure filled with this friendly feeling, save of course a certain corner which contained the ambassadors of Thessaurum Oppidum. A darkness seemed to hang over their little corner where the luxurious booth was located; partly because of the dimmed lights and copious smoke which lingered around the area, but also the sheer contrast with which they celebrated - like pirates, and at their center loomed their larger than life Captain.
His personal guard was swept up by the festivities, getting rowdy as was their boss' order for the time being. Chance on the other hand sat sprawled out along the center of their seating, looking quite regal regardless of his current unkempt looked. His eyes were framed with red and stared unblinkingly at the crowd, as if his very being was beyond the confines of the building and all it's joys. He scarcely moved aside from the soft heaving of his chest most evident through thw gentle bob of the brim of his hat.
Then as if suddenly returning to the physical world he inhaled deeply through his nose and then blinked; his eyes taking on that hawk-like gaze as it scanned the ballroom. Eyes darted to and fro, looking from group to group and making mental notes as he did so, that rapid movement of his eyes contrasting greatly with the slow turning of his head. He even managed to catch a few familiar faces, looking to be having quite the time, which was why he opted to leave them to their business for the time being as he began getting ready to make the rounds as it were. He stood up slowly, straightening his attire as he did so, and removing his hat to place it upon the table.
These actions of course prompted audden attention from all side, not the least of which being his entourage, who paused in their 'activities' to look to him. Head canted to the side to address them with a simple shake of his head while his hands worked diligently at fixing his ruffled look. Tie was given a proper knot, unbuttoned vest re-done and his jacket smoothed over with those broad hands. Tongue peeked from his mouth to wet his lips before a brief clearing of his throat was given. It would have taken a keen eye to decipher just how ******** up he was, but in the true fashion of his lifestyle he masked it well. In fact his left hand scooped up the last remaining glass of champagne and downed it in one gulp as if readying himself for the task of mingling. Chance however steeled himself and made his way forward into the crowd with surprising swagger while he sought out his earlier contacts.

Frenzy of Death ( I did eet! A little long winded but pretty damn enthralling if I do say so myself. But I'm highly medicated so.. Cant put a finger on how, but I dig it. Also the fact that you're medicated is impressive to say the least. xd )

((Sorry my internet has been on and off the past few days and inconsistent enough for me not to be able to post or to be updated on what's happened so far...)
Mairead's carriage pulled up to the front of the venue and the footman assisted her out. Climbing the stone steps and into the atrium Mairead saw at once why it was chosen for the party as well as for the negotiations. Walking up to the nearest security personnel, Mairead opened her clutch and handed the man her invitation.
"You're Ambassador Mairead?" he asked skeptically.
"Yes I am the Ambassador from Armatus." Mairead replied evenly.
"I'm sorry I don't believe Armatus a faction based on tradition would even consider sending an impudent kid to be their ambassador."
"Excuse me sir, I would like to correct you that I am neither a child nor am I impudent."
"The fact that you expect me to believe you are the Ambassador for Armatus is quite comical. You're what twelve?"
"I am sixteen."
"So you expect me to believe that a sixteen year old is entrusted with the political and diplomatic burden that could wipe out her faction? I'll believe that when trains fly."
"Sir, perhaps I should formally introduce myself, I am Mairead Theais sole heiress of the Theais and Heliae lineage and I have been appointed by the council with strong recommendations from Councilor Harun especially."
"I'm sorry 'Ms. Theais' as much as I would love to believe your fantastical tale I must ask you to leave."
"I am the Ambassador to Armatus you have no jurisdiction over me!" Mairead declared loudly
"I have jurisdiction over children who act above their station."
"I am a blue blood of the Theais and Heliae families, the one acting above their station is you sir!" Mairead could hear her own voice carry over and echo through out the building.
The man reached for her arm and she stepped just out of his reach.
"You will not touch me!"
This time he lunged and managed to grab her forearm and grasped quite firmly. It didn't hurt, but it was irritating enough that Mairead had to remember to keep a low profile. Or at least maintain the profile everyone already had on her.
"I demand you release me at once!"

[ Dang, why is Lucidus security incredibly incompetent and terrible? xD
And I thought Mairead was already at the party...? ]
The party was going well, at least from Aaren's part of the room it was. She found herself wandering between conversation with Maliarc and then with passers-by as they came to the table to say hello. Part of her was afraid she would begin to feel that familiar exhaustion she got from having one, simple conversation, but it never came. Instead, she was vitalized, and felt refreshed. Each conversation was easy; even a few people commented on how "lively" she seemed, although lively in comparison to her usual, fatigued self.
It wasn't too long before she heard the sound of a voice above the others, and it had even brought a very brief pause among a good number of conversations in the ballroom before said conversations continued on. Aaren glanced over at Maliarc, then towards the direction of the front entrance of the building. The party wasn't even half way through the night, and it seemed they were already experiencing issues.
The knight Emer walked over to the lady and bent over slightly. "Perhaps I should go see what is happening, my Lady."
"Yes, thank you," Aaren said and then watched Emer walk around the table and through the crowd.
The knight got through easily; no one was foolish enough to not get in his way, especially those who were familiar with his station. After making it towards the front entrance, he found himself in the presence of security, a guard gripping the arm of a young woman whose voice earlier had echoed through the building.
"What is the issue here?" Emer began. The guard turned his head towards the knight quickly before looking back at Mairead. "This girl claims to be the ambassador for Armatus."
"And you object...?"
"Sir, she's sixteen years old," the guard almost scoffed at the question, but nothing came from his mouth when he noticed the solemn expression of the knight. "Where is her invitation?"
"A sixteen-year-old ambassador... to a whole faction, sir?"
"The lady is very much aware that the ambassador of Armatus is young," Emer's voice rose slightly, his patience running thinner each moment the guard argued, "now, her invitation: where is it?"
The guard glanced at Mairead before he released her arm. He handed the invitation to the knight who in turn quietly read it over.
Needless to say, Emer's solemn expression turned into a disappointed frown. "This has the Lady Aaren Bona's signature right here."
"Sir! I—"
"What? Did you think this forgery perhaps? The higher knights can discern between the lady's true signature and a forged one, but even if you didn't know this, you should have been competent enough to summon one of us to handle this misunderstanding more respectfully. Ambassador," Emer looked over at Mairead and handed her the invitation, "Lady Aaren is towards the back of the ballroom at a reserved table. We apologize for the misunderstanding and hope that you'll enjoy the rest of your night in peace."

((edited)) Mairead's carriage had been followed by another carriage, a unique carriage that boasted of wealth and importance. Inside the rather fancy carriage sat Benjamin Black, the Head of the Agency, or rather, The Head of the Merchants Guild in Thesaurum. Ben was accompanied by a large black dire wolf, named Asher, who had been his trusty companion for almost 12 years. The wolf had to lay on the floor of the Carriage, for it was too large to lay on the seats inside. Along with Ben and his wolf, sat two rather quiet men dressed in black, who would be recognized as Ben's personal entourage.
Ben glanced out through the window of the Carriage silently as his carriage pulled to a soft halt in front of the Venue, just behind the carriage that had been in front of them. He recognized the style of the Carriage in front of them to be that of Armatus. He tapped his finger on his leg silently, as his thoughts were confirmed when he saw Ambassador Mairead step out of the Carriage.
He then glanced silently towards the door of his Carriage as it was opened by the footman, revealing a more clear view of the outside environment, as well as a view of the atrium. Asher, his wolf, also perked up as the door to the carriage was opened, and proceeded to stand up, and silently hop out of the Carriage. As the wolf exited the carriage, it shook its body as if it were wet, and then stretched backwards, emitting a soft yawn. Ben followed Asher out of the Carriage, stretching a bit after he was standing on the ground next to Asher.
His eyes fell on Mairead as she approached the security personnel at the front of the venue, several yards in front of him. He then glanced back as the two men from his entourage exited the Carriage as well, and stopped behind Ben without a word. He nodded at them silently, before turning his head to his left, and gazing down at Asher. The wolf looked back up to him with a calm stare, seeming content to be out of the carriage.
Ben was wearing a fine black suit, one tailored to fit to his build. It also boasted of his wealth, and marked him as the Head of the Merchants Guild. His hair was cropped short, but was slicked back in a formal manner, adding to his stature of being a man of wealth and renown. Ben also carried a black leather cane, with a solid silver handle at the top, which also added to his appearance. He wore black leather gloves, partly for fashion, but more to hide his right hand, which was part of a bionic arm. His right arm was surrounded by a rubber like material that mimicked skin, but it would be obvious to someone from Novum Fulgar that it was not flesh. His eye was also bionic, but its appearance was masked by a dark magic spell that Ben had learned long ago, a spell that could change the appearance of his face.
He smiled at the corner of his mouth at his wolf, Asher. Asher returned a smile, letting his tongue flop out the corner of his mouth. Ben and Asher had a unique bond, a bond born of dark magic, a permanent spell that could not be undone. He met his furry friend during the 5 years he spent in the west, trying to survive in the wild to pass the final test of the Agency, almost 12 years ago. He reminisced on the day that he had met his large furry friend.
His thoughts, however, were interrupted when Asher's head jerked towards Mairead, in response to Mairead declaring loudly that she was the Ambassador to the front security personnel. Ben also moved his gaze towards Mairead, realizing that there was a problem. He glanced back at the two men in his entourage, and motioned for them to follow him. He did not need to motion for Asher to follow, however, because Asher stayed right next to him as they made their way forward.
Ben's pace quickened slightly when he saw the man grab Mairead's forearm firmly. Asher's fur stood up in response to the sight as well, and his ears laid back against his head, a clear sign of the wolf's displeasure.
Before Ben, Asher, and his entourage reached Mairead however, a knight came out, and began exchanging words with the guard. Ben recognized the knight to be Sir Emer, a knight of renown in Lucidus. Ben slowed his pace, as did Asher and his entourage. He came up behind Mairead just as the knight finished inviting her in, and wishing her a good evening. Ben, glanced at the knight, knowing that the Emer wouldn't recognize him, though he recognized the knight.
He then turned his attention to the security guard, who had a look of embarrassment and defeat on his face. He smirked, as the security guard turned his gaze towards Ben.
The guard looked at Ben curiously, and suspiciously, before speaking. "Your invitation, sir?"
Ben smirked at him for a moment, before answering his question. "I am Benjamin Black, head of the Merchants Guild in Thesaurum." Asher uttered a low and menacing growl at the security guard, as if to confirm Ben's words. The Merchants Guild was known in every Faction, for it was what regulated all the trade going in and out of Thesaurum, the faction known worldwide as a central trade hub.
The security guard glanced down at Asher with a face tinted by fear. It was no surprise, though, for the wolf stood at 4 feet tall, weighing a whopping 350 lbs. The beast was more than a frightening sight, especially with its fangs barred.
The security guard cleared his throat. "Well I'll need to see some proof of that."
Ben lifted his hand, motioning with his finger to one of the men behind him. The one flanking Ben's right stepped forward, and walked around Mairead and stopped in front of the security guard, producing a golden envelope from the inside of his coat. He handed it to the security guard, who proceeded to tear it open. He glanced over the parchment, examining it closely. He then looked back up at Benjamin, and cleared his throat nervously. "My apologies, Mr. Black, you may enter."
Benjamin quickly threw back a reply, in a commanding voice. "I think you owe Ambassador Mairead an apology, not me." As Ben finished his statement, he glanced over at Mairead, with a warm expression.
The man swallowed slightly, glancing down at Asher, who was now silently staring at the Security Guard. He then looked up at Mairead, and bowed his head slightly. "My apologies Ambassador, I was foolish to question your identity." He looked back towards Ben, before adding, "But I do have to ask that your men stay in the carriage. Only people on the guest list may enter."
Ben smiled slightly, before glancing back at the two men behind him. "Wait in the carriage." The two men glanced at one another, clearly uncomfortable with leaving Ben to go inside by himself. Ben rolled his eyes before continuing, "I'll have Asher with me." The two men then nodded hesitantly, before turning around and making their way down the steps back towards the carriage.
Ben looked back forward to the security guard with a calm look. "Now then-"
He was interrupted by the security guard, who stated nervously, "Sir, your er, wolf, cant join you. You'll have plenty of security personnel protecting you ins-"
As if in response, the Wolf uttered a quick and menacing bark, which made the Security guard jump slightly. Ben laid his left hand on Ashers back, to calm him down. "The wolf goes where I go." Ben's words had an authoritative sound, which only added to his mannerisms as a leader.
The man cleared his throat, clearly frightened. "Y-Yes sir, you and your w-wolf may enter."
Ben smiled at the man, clapping his shoulder with his right arm, causing the security guard to be knocked off balance from the weight of Ben's mechanical arm. The security guard gave him a surprised look, but before he could say anything else to Ben, Ben continued forward past the Security Guard. Just before he entered the door, he glanced back at Mairead and smiled politely at her. He knew a lot about her, though she would never know how in depth his knowledge of her and her land was. He turned his head back forward towards Emer, nodding at him. "Your security is clearly unaware of the meaning of courtesy, Sir Emer." He smiled politely at the knight, before adding another statement. "Its fortunate that you do not lack that knowledge." He nodded at the Knight courteously, before striding past him into the ballroom.
As he entered the ballroom, it was a rather interesting transition, as the voices of all its attendees filled his ears at once, giving the venue a lifelike demeanor. He continued forward with the stride of a man of importance, glancing around, taking in the scenery while also making note of where the exits were located. The habits he developed during his time as an Agency Assassin never really did leave him, nor did they become any less useful. He began counting how many people were inside, recognizing many of the faces as he did so. As he stood there taking everyone in, himself and his wolf began to draw attention from the surrounding attendees. Mixed reactions came from all around him, some were negative, some were with fascination at the size of Asher, his wolf. His wolf paid no attention to the reactions of the patrons, but instead glanced around as well, looking for any signs of danger.
Asher was extremely protective of Ben, and Ben was extremely protective of Asher. Their bond was extensive, and they made a rather dangerous team. Ben paid no mind to everyones reactions, for he was used to this type of thing. He continued scanning the room, before stopping his gaze on a woman he recognized as Aaren. He stared at her for a moment, taking note of the man she was speaking with. Ben had no knowledge of this man's identity, and curiosity built in his head. Surely his spies would have notified him of this mans existence, if he was involved with Lady Aaren. It was likely that they had only just met this evening.
Deciding that he would approach them, he began to walk forward, gracefully snatching a glass of champagne off the serving tray of a passing chauffeur. Asher followed close by his side, constantly looking around for anything that seemed suspicious. The wolf had a unique tendency to smell danger before it made itself known to Ben. Ben was no fool, however, for he was taking note of every passing face as he closed the distance between himself, and Lady Aaren.
He took a sip of the Champagne as he stopped a foot or so away from the pair. Swallowing the Champagne, he greeted both of them politely, with a charming smile befitting someone of his stature.
"Good evening, Lady Aaren." His voice was slightly deep, yet suave as he spoke. "Its a pleasure to finally meet you." As he finished his second statement, he bowed his head slightly, in a respectful manner. As he brought his head back up, he glanced over at Maliarc, taking in his appearance, and mentally noting his body type and build. He nodded politely at Maliarc as well, not wanting to offend the man by not acknowledging him as well. Though Ben was the Head of the Agency and ex assassin, the world knew him as the cheerful head of the Merchant's Guild in Thesaurum, and he played the part with perfection. He took a sip of his champagne, and smiled at the two of them with nobility.
At his side, Asher the direwolf tilted its head slightly, gazing at Maliarc and Lady Aaren silently, trusting that Ben did not view the two in front of them as a danger.

kdke [ Dang, why is Lucidus security incredibly incompetent and terrible? xD And I thought Mairead was already at the party...? ] ((Was...but then I delted it because I couldn't keep up with the posts over exams...too much too fast plus no sleep and worms running through my brain...probably not what you want me to post about during a party...hahaha And I was bouncing off the idea that age is relative in terms of status in this bit...)) Mairead was saved by a knight. (Wow...that was cliched haahaha!!) "Sir Emer, my name is Mairead Theais, Ambassador of Armatus, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." Mairead then bowed in the formal Lucidus Magus greeting before continuing, "I have heard talk of you, even as far rural as my faction, every citizen in my faction from the youngest babe to the wisest elder have heard tell of you. I thank you most humbly for the rescue." Sir Emer was about to wave off her apology citing it was his duty to assist or that it was at his lady's order, when another man with a wolf caught her eye and the guard from earlier approached, bowed his head and apologized sincerely. "It is a common occurrence in my business." Mairead replied thinking of more than just her current position with the ambassador title hanging over her head. She then watched as the guard politely asked Mr. Black to dismiss his escort and his wolf, only to get a good snarl and commanding bark from the latter. It made her snicker inside remembering how her horse was once like that too, when she had first bonded with her, she would cry all day and night until Mairead slept in her stable. Mr. Black made a slightly veiled insult coupled with a polite remark at Sir Emer, which was not lost on him before striding away towards the ballroom. Sir Emer walked with Mairead to the ballroom where she made greeting the host, Lady Aaren her first priority. "Lady Aaren, it is a pleasure to make your acquaintance. I am Mairead Theais, Ambassador to Armatus." She bowed low once again in the Lucidus Magus formality before straightening.

[ Well, Lucidus has knights. xD I didn't even think about the connotations of that, haha. ]
Emer noticed the embarassment of the guard he scolded, but the knight soon found his attention else where, to a newly arrived guest. This new guest, accompanied with an oversized wolf creature, walked towards the entrance and revealed who he was to the shamed guard. Emer kept quiet, observing the exchange of words and the fearsome appearance and sound of the man's animal companion; his gaze didn't turn away as Ben soon approached him.
"Welcome, Mister Black," Emer responded and nodded back in respect. He watched him enter the building and then turned all his attention back to the guard from before. The knight gestured another guard to take position at the entrance before he led the previous to the side, away from the ears of the entering and exiting guests. "Your incompetency will be noted with Lady Aaren," Emer began in a quiet but firm voice, and watched as the guard looked away in remorse, "you will do better to act according to your rank next time."
"Yes, sir."
"Good. You're dismissed for the rest of the evening, and from the party," the knight ordered. The guard scoffed as Emer walked away and back into the building with Mairead, but left as he was told. His night ended earlier than he'd hoped.
Emer spoke to another knight briefly about the front security and then made his way back with Mairead to the table where Aaren was seated at. When he got there, he found Ben introducing himself to the lady.
The lady, though, was a bit taken back by the introduction. She didn't recognize Ben at first, but upon hearing his name and position, a sudden grasp of suspicion and curiosity gripped at her chest. The grip became a bit more intense when she noticed—not that it was difficult to—the unusually large wolf by his side. Her mind, though, had a moment of clarity in reasoning that the creature was not dangerous. In fact, it looked only curious and a bit friendly in her direction.
Her countenance was wise to not reflect these thoughts. She kept a calm expression, even though her eyes blinked and narrowed very slightly at Ben. She had heard many things... well, rumors, about this man. He was no man of humble reputation, but not exactly infamous, either. Lucidus Council and its leader were very familiar with the Merchants' Guild and the gossips that spreads about them; unfortunately, there is not much beyond that. Aaren didn't particularly like secrecy, but she would have to resist any urge to inquisite Mister Black.
"Yes, Benjamin Black," the lady said after a small moment of thought, "welcome, and a pleasure to finally meet you. Please, sit," she gestured towards some chairs on the opposite side of the table from herself. "Would your companion like any water or food, as well?" Propriety before anxiety in Aaren's mind.
It was as she waited for Ben to respond that she was approached by another person, a person she had equally wanted to meet. Aaren grinned softly as Mairead approached and greeted her. "Welcome, Miss Theais. I'm so pleased that you could be here," Aaren glanced over at Maliarc and spoke quietly to him, "We will talk more later, perhaps?" She waited until the mage excused himself before she turned her full attention to Ben and Mairead.

Ben was still for a moment, watching her reactions carefully with a warm smile, taking note of her eyes squinting slightly. He guessed that she was more than likely uncomfortable by his presence, but chose to hide it from him. 'Ah, formalities...' He thought to himself, as he took a seat across from her. It was then that he saw Mairead approach the table. He looked at her and smiled charmingly, as he listened to Lady Aaren greet her with a politeness that didnt quite match the attitude she had towards him. Aaren had been polite, sure, but it was obvious that she had mixed thoughts about him, and for good reason. As someone who put a lot of trust into their precious Council, it wouldnt have surprised Ben if she had heard rumors of him. The Agencies existence wasn't exactly much of a secret to the Council. Needless to say, she had every right to be suspicious of him.
He turned his eyes toward Asher as the wolf slowly strode toward him, taking a seat on the ground next to Ben's chair. He studied Asher, deciding that his large wolf could use some water. Turning back to Aaren, he replied softly. "Water would be wonderful, thank you. He hasn't had much water during our trip here, my Lady." As he finished speaking he reached over with his left arm and scratched Asher behind the ears. The Wolf sat there, allowing his mouth to open, and letting his huge tongue flop out the side of his mouth, clearly enjoying the motion from Ben. The wolf, when sitting, was actually taller than the table that Ben and Aaren was seated at. The wolf could see everyone sitting at the table, and he was as tall as Ben's shoulders while Ben was seated.
He then listened as Aaren spoke quietly to the mage. Since Ben could read lips, he knew what she said to him. He wondered what exactly it was they were speaking of. Very few things escaped Ben's ears, or his knowledge for that matter. It was difficult to keep information from the leader of the Agency, who had spies everywhere. In fact he had two in this very ballroom, one disguised as a patron, and another disguised as a waiter. They were his eyes and ears for the time being, and each of them had a mic implanted in one of their molars, as well as a receiver implanted into the cartilage of their ears. Ben had the same set up as well, allowing him to communicate with them without drawing any suspicion.
He took another drink of his champagne, and glanced around, memorizing the faces of each person in his vicinity in a matter of seconds using his bionic eye. If anyone had known what he was thinking, they would have considered him paranoid. But Ben had a feeling that this party would have an interesting turn of events. All the leaders of the factions in one building was nothing but a huge target for anyone with malicious intentions.
He turned his eyes to Ambassador Mairead, and greeted her again. "Good evening Ambassador. I trust that the spectacle outside didn't spoil your mood for the evening?" He rather liked Mairead, for she did what was best for her people, something that someone of her age wasn't normally capable of, yet she performed her duties as well as anyone. After Ben spoke, Asher looked up at Mairead with a goofy smile that only a 350lb direwolf could muster.

Maliarc watched silently as the strangers approached the table. He had heard of neither of them, but was curious about the large, strange wolf. However, his curiosity would have to wait to be sated for another day, as Lady Aaren had politely asked him to excuse himself. Being nothing but a guard, he understood completely. He simply nodded his head in agreement, stood up, gave a slight bow at the two newcomers, and left to stand in a far corner where he could see the entirety of the ballroom while still keeping an eye on Lady Aaren.
As he settled into his position, he imagined himself and Lady Aaren in the pitch black room once more, and gave her a little more stamina to properly greet and talk with the two important people she had just met. She would probably not need anymore for the rest of the night, but he knew how important these people were, and wanted to ensure she could talk with them fully.

Mairead smiled as she took the seat marked by a place card. The table was beautifully set with crystal dishes and real silverware, not that she had expected anything less but the simplicity of the setting did surprise her. She noted the wolf and offered her open palm for him to sniff. Mairead let him take his time.
"Not at all, unprecedented perhaps but definitely not to ruin the mood." she replied with a smile.
Eventually it seemed as if the wolf hadn't had it's fill as he began sniffing the back side of her hand, so she turned it over and let him have his fill. While he did so, Mairead cast her eyes carefully around the ballroom taking in details. One never knew when details would come in handy.
The tables were all filled with guests and everyone seemed to be mingling with their dining partners. Each table held at the most four guests and all were filled with small and idle chatter. No one seemed out of the ordinary, then again this was the perfect place to blend in oddities. In a room filled with representatives from every faction, abnormality would be normalcy. Hopefully, there wouldn't be any trouble, but knowing her luck...it was bound to happen eventually.
Luckily her chair placement did not leave her back exposed to a door or allow anyone to sneak up on her, not that she would expect it, but you never knew. And she doubted that with the wolf sitting taller than the table that he would allow anyone to approach the table without someone being aware.
"I think he smells my horse. Or dinner..." Mairead joked as she noted several waiters emerge from the double kitchen doors with dinner plates.

Up on the balconies, Manson appeared, a clumsy figure who rocked forth into a full lean onto the marble surface of the railing, his chest pressed down and his mind lost to the haze brought on by good alcohol. There, he arched a neck over where he looked directly downwards into the sea of elegance. Were it not for the momentum built to keep onwards, Manson would have let his gaze linger, but smoothly he twisted and slide a palm down the railing.
He was met by stares of course. This was only expected due to his little magic trick, but Manson only turned his head as if unsuspecting and made way down the staircase.

"Were you there during the issue at the front entrance, Miss Thaeis?" Aaren asked curiously while glancing at a waiter who lowered a bowl onto to the floor next to the large wolf. Emer was a couple of yards behind her and stepped forward to bend down next to her; Aaren listened as the knight quietly explained what happened. "Oh—I'm very sorry to hear that," she said with a sad furrow to her brow, "I suppose the security is a bit on edge with all the factions arriving. It has been a long time since such a gathering has taken place. Either way, I'm relieved it was settled.
"So, both of you—Mister Black and Miss Thaeis—how are you enjoying the accomadations?" Aaren folded her hands on her lap and grinned softly at Ben and Mairead. "I know you only arrived a few minutes ago, but I'm very curious to hear any insights. Have either of you found the time yet to enjoy Lucidus Magus and its culture?" A waiter came by to refill the lady's glass of cold water. He asked if she wanted any champagne, and she politely refused.
She then looked at Ben's wolf companion, and her grin grew a bit wider. She did love animals, and she was particularly fascinated with the size of this canine. After all, he seemed very friendly, at least with them; something told her that if the beast wanted, he could be vicious. Aaren looked at Mairead and nodded in response to her comment, "I can smell the first course in the air myself."

Ben watched Maliarc carefully as the mage stood up and left the table, yet never breaking his line of sight with Aaren. Ben's curiosity peaked. The man intrigued him, and the fact that his purpose here was unknown to Ben made him even more intriguing. Perhaps he was from Lucidus Magus, a man who wanted to devote his life to protecting Aaren? Or maybe there was more to it. But the way he was dressed...did not seem like he was from this Faction. His garbs had a style that he had seen before, but he couldn't put a finger on where... Nox? No, perhaps Armatus? Definitely not. His eyes narrowed for a moment, realizing that his appearance was similar to that of the Western Dwellers. It made sense with his quiet mannerisms, and his appearance. Ben had met others in the West during the 5 years he spent there, and they had a similar appearance that made them stick out amongst the other factions.
Ben turned his attention back to the table, filing away that bit of information into the back of his mind. Upon hearing Mairead reply to his statement, he smiled at her. "Good! Honestly if Sir Emer hadn't shown up when he did I think Asher would have torn the mans arm off for grabbing you like that." He smirked, glancing to his furry companion, who awkwardly grinned after smelling Mairead's hand, and gave her fingers a few licks.
Ben knew that Asher probably was hungry, but feeding the wolf would only make him bloated and tired, and he needed his companion to be on his toes, should anything go wrong. Plus, he never trusted anyone under any circumstances to feed the dire wolf, besides himself. If someone were to poison the wolf, the bond born of dark magic would mirror its effects to Ben. Their bond was so deep, that if one died, the other would perish as well. There was not a single person alive that knew this information, however, and he would keep it that way until his death.
"I think he's fine for the moment." He said politely, scratching the wolfs ears again. After he spoke he listened intently to what Lady Aaren had to say about the spectacle at the entrance. However, he only reacted once she asked wether or not himself and Ambassador Mairead had found the time to indulge in Lucidus Magus culture, he smirked. "My lady, as the Head of the biggest Trading Faction in the world, My travels have brought me everywhere there is to go." 'Well, almost...' he thought to himself after speaking, thinking of the land that extended out west, past anything he had seen while out in the unknown lands. The vision he saw before the awakening popped into his mind at the thought of what he had seen out west.
Deciding to change the subject from the casual formalities, Ben turned his body back towards the two in front of him. "So, Lady Aaren, how have you been faring? I've heard quite distressing things about your...condition." he said, pausing before uttering the word. He knew a great deal about her condition, though he would not let on how much he knew. The things he knew were very disturbing to say the least, and if Lady Aaren were to come across the knowledge that Ben possessed, her outlook on her entire life would change instantaneously. Perhaps one day, when the time was ripe, he would divulge her with what he knew. For now he would play the part of the genuinely curious Merchant from Thesaurum.
Out of the corner of Ben's eye, he saw a man gracefully slide his drunken self down the stairs to the tables left, his high level of intoxication apparent on his face. He paid little attention to the man, though he silently clicked his teeth in a quick series of clicks, sending a code through the mic implanted in his teeth, to be heard by one of his spies. The spy that was closest to Ben's position, the waiter, made no reaction to the code he heard, but understood it to be an order. The order being to become Ben's surveillance. The waiter casually offered a glass of champagne to another patron, before making his way towards Ben's table.
Ben had just finished his glass of champagne, when a waiter (his spy) came over to their table.
"Shall I refill your glass, sir?" the waiter asked Ben with courtesy that matched any other waiter in the ballroom, and Ben casually nodded, and motioned with his hand toward the empty glass, paying the waiter little attention. The sight would have seemed normal, but in fact, the whole scene was a communication between Ben and his spy. The motion of the hand towards the glass, was another code, that told the Spy which area of the Ballroom to keep an eye on. The waiter nodded, and filled up Bens glass, before making his way back to the kitchen. In the kitchen, the spy had hidden a small pistol, that he would retrieve and hide on himself, in case anything were to happen in the ballroom.
The series of clicks that Ben had made would have just seemed like a typical habit, kind of like tapping a finger on ones knee. The other spy, disguised as a patron, heard the clicks in his earpiece as well, and excused himself to the bathroom, where he had hidden a pistol as well. Both spies would be armed, and would be watching everyones movements, relaying any info to Ben as each hour passed. Ben would not be caught off guard by some idiot with delusions of grandeur, regardless of who it was. His spies would be keeping a close watch on Vossler, as well as the ones from Novum. Those two factions were clearly at each others throats, and this would be an ideal setting for one to try to neutralize the other. Though Ben had little information that would benefit his suspicions, he would be very careful, nonetheless.

Mairead took note of Maliarc noticing his closeness to Lady Aaren. She wasn't sure what their bond was due of, either duty or debt. Too soon to tell, perhaps her contacts would have more information on that. She noticed Ben studying him out of the corner of her eye as she took another sip from her champagne.
"My accommodations are more than suitable. After all it will only be a place to sleep once the negotiations commence. I have been able to enjoy quite a bit of your beautiful culture, and I look forward to the grand festival opening tomorrow." Though Mairead had really just arrived today, her decoy had arrived days ago, and it wasn't like Mairead hadn't been to Lucidus Magus before either.
The last time she was in Lucidus Magus, she had been employed to do some dirty work. It was to assist a friend who was part of an organization to flush out some dealers who handled the skin trade. It had been fun and entertaining though these dealers had back up contingencies that had their fingers in other pies. It had been a marvelous operation and decently challenging, though on the occasion she fell asleep bored while waiting for the in between.
As the first course was set in front of her a soup of something she wasn't familiar with but smelled wonderful and she realized how ravenous she was. But she reined in her hunger and waited for Lady Aaren to lift her spoon first as was polite.
"His name is Asher is it? He's a sweet boy, I can't imagine him tearing off anyone's arms. He's more like a cuddler." Mairead said watching the wolf give her his puppy eyes.
Mairead had heard of wolves this large they were fierce and uncontrollable in the wild. Once bonded however they were fiercely loyal, protective and could be very dangerous. She knew full well that the wolf could have if he saw fit, strangled the guard with his own entrails, thankfully he didn't. It would have been messy.
As Mr. Black casually inquired after Lady Aaren's health she recalled quite a bit in her crammed studies that she suffered from an unknown ailment. So far there was no cure nor any leads on the cause of her ailment either. It was quite unfortunate, but hopefully if the treaties worked the way that they should Armatus could trade their medicinal herbs with Lucidus Magus. After all their culture was aimed for peace and harmony and growth.
Mairead also noted the waiter, he was working on the opposite side of the room the last time she saw him. Nothing in his behavior or expression gave her any cause of alarm or concern, however there was something in his eye that told her he was more than he appeared to be. After all more often than not a man was much more than a person appeared to be.
This party was turning out to be more interesting than originally planned. She was glad she had spent the better part of the day preparing her contingency plans. Hopefully she wouldn't need them.
"Lady Aaren, I hear Mr. Black has a reputation for being a brilliant musician. A violinist if I am not mistaken." Mairead quipped.
