Saliva looked it over and frowned. "Looks confusing is what it looks like." She said, before patting him on the head. "You sure you're okay?"

Melvin instead finally got his Twinkie open, and was chewing on it when he looked at the writing, turning his head just so and giving a low hhmmm of thought.

Balthazar nosed at her, garnering her attention before tugging her towards something bright. The Fool bent down and picked up the miasma artefact, pocketing it. And then she ascended the stairs, one flight after another. It was a quiet journey, and she mostly kept to herself. The voids suited her, and so did the shadows. They were repetitive, in a way, but they were all she knew.

Did a starving man know that he was hungry, if he had never been full?

The Floor winced as a crack from above sounded, and while she ducked out of the way from a crumbled wall, a chunk of it struck her brow nonetheless. Balthazar growled, licking at her hand with a whine deep in his throat.

The Fool sighed. This was not the sort of duty she'd had in mind when she'd volunteered to serve, that much was for certain. Balthazar brought her another artefact, this time a small bottle with Miasma inside. Clerise pressed it into her body, storing it within the darkness.

The next clue was less straightforward than the first, but no less accurate. Five was less than infinity, after all--but then, infinity was an undefined point. The hunt for miasma was forgotten in favor of searching for the answers the towers held. Her attention was less on the rubble-strewn floor than it was on what was once probably exquisite architecture. She didn't realize she was falling until it was too late.

"To think, not long ago, this was a proud city, turned to rubble." Jing exclaimed as he walked down the street, the vacated and exiled area that had nothing in it but the visitors that mulled about in the ash. Most of which right now was the watch, owning the lanes in their numbers. It was a cocky experience.

The thrill was coursing in his veins as he kick aside a loose stone, watching the broken piece of plaster roll for a few meters.

He could only hope that there was something worthwhile hidden in the city's depths, untouched by the destruction. A weapon that he could use for his own nefarious ideas.

Or perhaps something to toy with for his amusement, anything.

They pushed forward, heading up the stairs to the next series of floors as the miasma started to grow thicker. Between the two of them they had collected some, but he had the feeling that it was not nearly enough. They were going to need more if their kingdom was going to stay on top and not merely drown so easily.

Five is less than infinity. Well of course that’s sort of stupid isn’t it?” Kasi replied as she stopped to read the etching on the wall. “I mean infinity goes on forever it well infinite in mass.” Nothing here was making any sense to her, and not to mention the sequins on her dress were starting to fall off due to the debris.

Just then something heavy started to sound, creaking as if a heavy weight was bearing down and ready to let go. Matt quickly pushed Kasi to the side as a loud crack rung throughout, echoing in the distant halls.

“OMG MATT ARE YOU OK?” Kasi screamed as she saw his hand move under the rubble.

“At least help me up…” He murmured trying to dig himself out.

“But… I don’t want to break a… oh nevermind sure.” She replied as she tried to push a large piece of something off his back.

The next set of floors proved to be less dignified. The Fool shrieked like a banshee as the pieces fell, covering her head as she was nearly buried in rubble.

Well. Nearly was an understatement.

The Fool had turned her arms into shields, covering her body before the rubble hit-- but still, the debris was heavy, and it pelted against her back relentlessly. The Fool groaned, giving Balthazar dagger-glares as he brought back another three bottles of miasma.

He was the one doing all the work, here.

His smug canine grin just proved it.

Didn’t she understand? It could be important. It could mean something. What he didn’t know, but something. He frowned at the numbers and then she touched his head. He short her an involuntary glare. “Don’t touch me.” He seethed and then tried to relax. She was just being friendly after all. He just… didn’t want to be touched right now. He wasn’t sure he could trust them, or anyone. “I just… it might be important ok. It wasn’t here before, and…” great. Now he was crying again. “Everyone is dead. And I will be soon if we don’t do something about it. I have to stop it, before this gets worst.”

Amarus heard her name, but was in the process of peering around a corner when Justice called for her. "You don't have to yell," she said, popping around the corner fully, "I'm always nearby." Then, approaching him, she lowered her mask: "What took you so long? Pick a fight with some walls?"

She noticed he was looking slightly worse for the wear than she was. "Or was it the others?" The white glow that served as her eyes narrowed as she raised the mask back up on her face and surveyed his injuries. The tower was a treacherous place; not only because it was unstable, but also because of the other Kingdoms scrambling for Miasma...

"Rest with me a while?" Judgement suggested, gesturing to a piece of crumbling stairway. "For nostalgia's sake."

She took a seat, and got cozy, though she peered out warily from the shadows.

Ignoring the interesting riddle on the floor Mitsu made her way toward the stairs only to find another one. "One...is less than five?" Well that was very true. Either the silver king had been captain obvious or there was a purpose to this statement on the floor. Did it correlate with the last one she saw?

Slowly she made her way upward trying to be cautious but on her way she still managed to trip on some fallen debris landing nearly face first against the steps leading up to the second floor. She would be sure to leave that out of her report. There was nothing of real interest that she found though her eyes were on the look out for precious miasma. It was on the fourth floor that she finally found any and she stashed it away safely. Up to the fifth floor she found nothing more of interest. One more floor down a lot more to go.

[Using ALL Special Events: +5 Miasma and +Key!]

Making a mad dash up the staircases wasn't an effective strategy against dodging debris, it seemed. His wounds had opened up again and multiplied -- his whole body ached. He could still keep going, but... for now... he needed to rest. Somewhere relatively safe from falling pieces of stone, wood, or glass -- and somewhere that wouldn't collapse from the impact.

Perhaps the staircases would do. They were built for sturdiness, and they had lasted all of these people trampling around on them. Slumping down underneath one of them, Sinclair found another set of words: "Five is less than infinity." What was the last bit? One was... less than five?

Squinting behind the cracked lenses of his glasses, he considered the words. Perhaps they were clues... Numbers. His hand wandered to the card tucked away in his pocket. Would that have anything to do with it?

He noticed something else as he continued squinting at the numbers in the stone. Another glimmer in the rubble, brighter this time; he dragged himself towards it. Sinclair unearthed another vial of Miasma, this one larger than the last. With a heavy heart, he tucked it away, hearing it clink against the other container of energy.

And then there was something else... a key? What could he use this for?

OOC
Character: Sinclair Merchenwald
Kingdom: Silver (working for White)
Rank: Wild Card

His most noticeable traits are his bright pink eyes and (rather misplaced) confidence and optimism. He appears to be slightly injured, but carries an electromagnetic shock gem in his left hand, a gift from Zephyros in the White Kingdom.

Taima's tumble from one side of the portal to the other knocked the wind out of her as she landed hard. That had been unexpected, and she took a moment to regain her senses before carefully pushing herself to her feet. Eyes on the prize, she reminded herself, collecting a bit more of the miasma.

Entering the tower seemed simple enough. While the wreckage teetered precariously, nothing stirred as he stepped inside, his eyes drifting automatically to the ruined floor. It is, as a castle should be, beautiful and ornate, although not what he was used to. The shape-shifter couldn't help but wrinkle his nose a little in response, obviously disliking the attire, far preferring the high-tech tower Harrison had created to rule his empire.

But he wasn't here for interior decorating, so it didn't matter.

"Stay close," he murmured to Sammy, his body making a full circle to take a good look at their surroundings, taking a second to glance at her before continuing onward.

As luck would have it, the stairs were fairly near the entrance, cascading upward elegantly, despite how they had nearly been destroyed. And there, written on the staircase itself, was something... strange. 'One is less than Five.' Nuk had never been one for riddles, so he merely quirked an eyebrow at it, glancing back at Sammy with a quizzical look before continuing. The first board creaked under Nuk's boot, and he paused for a second, hearing a little rumble as some gravel shifted before he felt comfortable enough to move on. Each level was like this, some of the floors forcing them to reroute, traverse the maze of broken glass on that particular floor in order to find another staircase.

There was little worth finding in the rooms. Some precious metals, some items that might be valuable, but nothing Jordan felt worth taking; they weren't here to salvage objects, but to find potential information or collect Miasma. There were books scattered or ruined in some rooms, but they didn't have time to explore everything thoroughly, nor time to stop and read.

Other explorers, some from Blue and some he didn't recognize, prowled through the rooms. By tacit assent, they avoided these explorers. The tower itself was dangerous enough.

As they ascended a staircase, a glint of silver caught Jordan's eye along the railing, silver script engraved in the stone. "One is less than five," he read aloud.

"That's sort of obvious," Ferros observed.

"Remember it anyway," Jordan said, and traced the script with a fingertip. "It seems unusual."
