When Zachary wakes up, Gaius and his little dog, too, are gone. His room has been straightened, and both the canister with the eyeball as well well as his panic button are back on his collection shelf. His burising from Gaius's kick has been attended to, but is certainly still sore. On his bedside table is a note: Quote: They always tell children to look and see who it is before you let someone in the front door. It seems that you could benefit from this lesson as well. Even bad people can talk sweet to get through the front door. I am fully aware that Gaius was the antagonist in this situation, regardless of how you handled it. And I will overlook your act of agression in this situation. Even back in America violence is permittable against unexpected intruders. You had been injured, he had forced his way into your duplex and caused you harm. However while I know that you have been the victim in more than a couple situations, and have done me proud in not resorting to physical violence outside of your post-change episodes, let me impress upon you that I do not want this to become habitual. Let this serve as your blow and your warning, both to Gaius, and me to you. And tendencies of violence will not help my case for justifying the regrowth of your eye, especially in light of past mistakes. Things rely on evidence of the stability of your mentality now that your transformations have completed.

Zach awoke with a start, sprawled on the carpet with his mouth half-open just as Gaius had left him. He was thankful it was his duplex after all, and not some location like the labs. He'd gone crazy. That was the only explanation. Perhaps it was contagious. Either way, he knew those murderous impulses were his own. It was instinct unearthed by pain, and he'd been too weak to stop himself from trying to tear Gaius apart.
He didn't see the note until a little while later, when he returned from washing the blood off his hands and foot. Something looked out of place about the bedside table. As soon as he saw the note he knew who it was from, but there was no way he could just avoid reading it now that he'd seen it. He gave himself a couple of seconds, his mind already going over what could be written on it and jumping to the worst possibilities. As if possessed, he reached down to pick it up. After lifting it up into view, his eye quickly moved down the paper once, twice. He exhaled a shaky breath.
The struggle earlier had been draining both physically and mentally, and the electric shock from the chip and his now sore bruises didn't help his resolve. His right eye was starting to burn all the way down to his snout. He hadn't cried, honestly cried, in a very long time. Most of the crying he'd done had been a response to changes or to injuries, but this wasn't exactly injury... just a well-aimed kick while he was already down. He'd been so adamant about proving his strength, but Sabin had seen through it. The crying he didn't even want, and desperately tried to calm himself down. Not much of a waterworks display, but he was drawing in each breath through clenched teeth, which only made it more clear that he was trying to hide the obvious. His legs wouldn't hold him up, so he sank down onto the bed with his tail limp. He covered his left eye with a hand while he held the note in the other, wanting very much to just curl up and die rather than have to face reality.
