Brandon walked up the way toward the house, his eyes going between the house, his cousin, and his cousin's brother. The not-cool one. Brandon was certain that some sort of weird cosmic forces must have aligned to ensure that somehow he was related to the worst person in his year. How else would it explain that Michael had told him that when they went to Diagon Alley, he was taking McGregor with him? The very idea that Michael was related to him was barmy, and especially so since he could only describe Michael as the polar opposite of the younger blond. Michael was friendly, polite, and actually enunciated his words. Leon, well, he was rude, hostile, and had the worst accent he'd ever heard in his life. He could hardly understand the Slytherin half the time, and the other times he wished he didn't. He figured that fate was cruel or something, because there was no way that he'd believe otherwise about the situation.

As it was, Leon didn't even look like he wanted to be here. Michael had basically forced the younger boy to go, and part of Brandon empathized. The other part wondered how the heck Leon had even been invited to the party. Leon looked downright disgruntled about the whole thing, and Brandon wondered if maybe it was a bad idea to bring him here or not. However, Michael was already ringing the doorbell and a weirdly disfigured creature opened the door. Brandon was about to ask what the heck it was, when Leon just sighed heavily.
"We're 'ere fer th' party. Well, some o' us're more willin' ta go than others, bu' I ain' gettin' a say in th' matter."

Brandon just rolled his eyes at the younger blond, thinking that the boy was being impossible. "Just let it go already. Sheesh." They were shown in anyway, with Michael promising to pick them up later and Leon scowling at his brother. Brandon just ignored the melodramatic Slytherin and entered the room with everyone. "Hey everyone. Umm, sorry we're late." Leon snorted and moved off to the side to avoid everyone, while Brandon shook his head. It was official, the blond was seriously antisocial.

There’s 7 billion 46 million people on the planet
And most of us have the audacity to think we matter
The reason there’s smog in Los Angeles is ‘cause if we could see the stars
If we could see the context of the universe in which we exist
And we could see how small each one of us is
Against the vastness of what we don’t know
No one would ever audition for a McDonalds commercial again

As expected, Caty was the first to show up. Jupiter escorted her into the house and she grinned at the sight of her best friend. "You look super cute Caty! Has summer been treating you well?" Her summer had been rather weird for her. She was still used to being at home with her mum where she had to do all the chores and do everything the woman's boyfriend ordered as well. So the summer spent at her father's manor with house elves waiting on her by day and no chores to do and so much free time. She didn't even know what to do with her time. She had been allowed to adopt a new pet though and had ended up with a magical dog thing called a Crup. She'd named him Bandit. He was only a puppy right now, but she'd been told they didn't like muggles much, so she was hoping it'd keep her safe a little bit at least. As if on cue the small dog like creature came barreling down the stairs and flopped into her lap.

She giggled and scratched behind his ears before returning her attention to Caty. "Those look delicious! You can just put them on the table with the rest of the food!" Before Caty could move though, Dolly had rushed forward to take the tray of sweets and Jupiter had cleared a space for them. Aimee blinked and shrugged. "I'm still not used to them really. Jupiter won't even call me Aimee. He keeps calling me Miss Amelia." The way he said it just made her squirm. It wasn't that she thought it was weird to be respected, but more that her mother's first boyfriend had called Miss Amelia, and she wasn't fond of thinking about him.

"Miss Amelia! Jupiter does not mean to offend you. Jupiter just wants to treat you with respect!" Aimee glanced at the male house elf and shrugged. Grace had already told her it was no use trying to change Jupiter's mind. Dolly on the other hand reminded her of Gracie a lot. She was bratty and sassy and always rolling her eyes and using sarcasm. As if Aimee was a Seer, Dolly rolled her eyes at Jupiter and pushed him off towards the door at the sound of another knock. He escorted Di to them and Aimee waved at her. She blushed when she was handed a candle though. "You didn't have to get me a gift or anything, but thanks! I love candles." She grinned.

Her father had promised to remodel her room to something she liked over the next school year, but until it was more, she had covered the entire room in beautiful candles to at least make it feel more like hers. Michael had happily bought the candles for her but warned her not to burn the place down again. The again, of course, caught her attention and that was about when she learned about the history of the house including the lovely murders and fire that had burned most of the place to the ground. It was weird to think she was living in a murder house. "How do you make candles anyways? I've never made anything really. I mean.... I made dinner for my mum a lot as a kid, but that doesn't really count. I'd love to know how to make candles, or metal work or something cool like that." She trailed off when she realized she was rambling, and was glad to be interrupted by the arrival of another guest. Maybe Di wouldn't notice how awkward she was.

She waved at Chessie as she entered. She didn't really know the girl well, but she was friends with Caty and that made her Aimee's friend too. At least by Aimee's thought line. "Hey, glad you could make it." She said, offering her best hostess smile. She hoped no one thought her strange for inviting people she barely knew. It also hadn't struck her that no one expected her to live in a mansion. If she had thought about that, she would have been far more embarrassed at this point, but thankfully she hadn't and hopefully wouldn't think about it.

Soon after Chessie arrived, Colin did too. At least she had spent some time with Colin over the year. Most of it had been sitting in silence both reading and other things like that, but Caty had said that was half the reason Colin liked her. Which was good she figured, since she wasn't good at much besides being quiet. And of course Colin mentioned the size of her house and she immediately blushed bright red. "T-thanks...." She stuttered out. "I can't even really call it my house. I've barely even lived here that much. Its as new to me as all of you." She quickly tried to explain. She didn't want them all thinking she was some snobby rich girl who just pretended to be normal. She was new to having money and still didn't know how to act about it.

To save her, there was a loud knock at the door and Jupiter went running to open it and greet whoever was there. A few moments later he returned with Ralph Hastings. Aimee grinned and waved at him. She had at an earlier point in the year had a crush on Ralph, but now she felt completely normal around him. She kept hoping thats what would happen with Caty, but so far she still felt all crushy around her best friend.... it didn't stop her from being best friends with her though. She blinked as Ralph handed her a gift. She was so confused as to why people kept giving her gifts. It was just a house party, not a birthday or anything. "Thanks Ralph.... you really din't have to though... Its just a party get together have fun sort of thing."

She set the present down on the stairs next to her, and immediately Bandit, who had been curled up in her lap happily asleep, bounced up to sniff tehe package curiously, before returning to her lap and staring at ralph, tilting his head at him as the boy's stomach growled. "Oh! You guys can help yourself to the food. My cousin baked it all and had Dolly and Jupiter bring it over this morning! The cupcakes were made by Caty though." There was another knock on her door, and she blinked in surprise. She knew there were other people invited, but she honestly hadn't even expected this many people to show up let alone everyone invited!

Kiley and Kimberly Umber were escorted into the house and immediately complimented the house. She blushed again and scratched Bandit's ear for a few seconds to try and rid the blush before answering. "Thanks Kim. I know its huge... I get lost all the time still... even after living here for a few months." She smiled at Kiley and nodded. "You're welcome. I know we didn't talk much through out the year, but I didn't want to leave anyone out, and well being friends with people is good right?" She asked, feeling rather awkward about her wording. She just couldn't be normal could she?

She sighed glancing down at Bandit. She'd really been hoping Leon would show. She knew he'd told her straight up there was no way he was coming, but she'd still hoped he would change his mind. She didn't know why she cared really, but somehow she considered him one of her closer friends. She kind of had this feeling that she could tell him anything and he wouldn't judge her for it. Or well more that he judged her for everything equally which was basically the same thing as not judging her at all. Basically....

At that moment Jupiter returned the room toting behind him Brandon and Leon. She blinked in surprise and then grinned extravagantly. "Yay you showed up!" She practically shouted at the sight of the blonde. She immediately blushed, of course, and looked back at her lap. Bandit had sat back up at her sudden loud voice and was glaring at her. "Sorry Bandit...." She muttered, before petting his head gently until he laid back down and fell asleep. She glanced at Brandon and shrugged with a smile. "You're not really late. I mean I guess kind of, but I don't think so. People have been showing up pretty steadily so its not like everyone's been waiting around for you or anything...." She shrugged again, and glanced at Caty. She was sure Caty had noticed her exclamation and was making silent assumptions or something, that she would get to hear later.

She watched her best friend for a few more moments before turning to the group and grinning. "Well I'm not a very good planner, so I mean we have food, Dolly can get the piano to play itself if you guys want music....We can pretty much do whatever you guys want to do...." She glanced down at her fingers and shrugged again. She was so bad at planning. That was why she'd told Michael she didn't even want to have a party, but of course he had insisted, and after Caty found out about it, she'd gushed so much about the idea, that Aimee had actually started to think it would be fun. Now that everyone was here though, she just felt awkward and stupid.

She just wants to be, beautiful
She goes, unnoticed she knows, no limits
She craves, attention she praises, an image
She prays to be, sculpted by the sculptor
Oh, she don't see, the light that's shining

ﻬஐCaty grinned brightly as her friend complimented her outfit mainly grateful she didn't think it odd that she was wearing tights beneath her shorts. She had gotten ahead of herself the last month of school and now had shallow scars forming along her thighs. She didn't want her habit being discovered so she tried to cover up as much as she could, it might've also helped that she got an achy itch whenever the fabric rubbed against the still healing wounds. That probably didn't sound sane or any way rational. But oh well, good thing it was all in her head where no one could hear it! "My summer's been alright. I finished up most of my homework early so I could relax and..oh! Me and Rhys made up so, I think we're alright now." Besides Leon, Aimee had been one of the few who knew just what her brother had said to her to make her run that day but the chain-smoker was the only one who knew her coping method. He had tried to get her a new one but kept her knife since at least know one could smell the stench of her past deeds on her breath or clothing. Plus it yellowed teeth and cut your lifespan in half! The girl swore she was going to burn every and any packs she found on the boy when they got back to Hogwarts.

As people trickled in she waved, grinned, greeted, and generally seemed to be in a happy and jolly mood. She cooed once Aimee's adorable crup came out ("He's so cute!"), thanked the house elf for taking away her tray of sweets, ooo'd over Di's wonderfully scented candle, ("That's so cool! Can you teach me how to make a candle like that?"), and offered to show both girls the basic metal work she knew how to do. Aimee because she seemed so down that she didn't know how to make anything and Di because she thought the intelligent girl would love something like that. Maybe she should save up and give her the basic kit she had ordered herself when she got to learning as a Yule gift. Gah it seemed like just yesterday there was snow on the ground and people singing carols and now it was summer and everything kept switching between hot and muggy or rainy and foggy. Her mind whirled and switched topics at the drop of a hat and she could very nearly feel herself actually vibrating, with what she had no idea. But this, whatever this was, had been happening is infrequently enough for her to recognize it but to also have no idea where it was coming from. She was thinking maybe it was because she had been so hyped up for the party (and maybe snuck one or two of the uglier cupcakes) that she was just on a sugar high. Yeah, that seemed more plausible than...something else. In the span of all her thinking she had lost sight of Aimee and had pretty much blanked out so seeing the hoard of new people around her startled her a bit. Caty turned as she heard her best friend shout in glee and followed her line of sight towards Brandond and Leon. A knowing smirk slunk across her face; she had been so happy when she had started giving the rude Cockney boy a chance like she asked and now it would seem she was even going above and beyond. Did she have a crush on him as well? If she didn't she didn't blame her; he was mean, rude, antisocial, and foul-mouthed but damned if he wasn't cute. It was really quite a shame. When she caught his eye she gave him a sly wink and mouthed "I knew we were friends" inwardly cackling at how pissed he was going to act towards her but she didn't care. At the suggestion of music her green eyes lit up and she jumped in place at the prospect. "Music yes! I wonder if you have a radio around here or a wireless hidden around here, then we could get you up to speed on the good magical music. There isn't a lot to be honest but the few there is isn't too bad." she said with a laugh.ஐﻬ

When the monsters are sleeping under your bed;
They've crawled out from under and into your head!
And outside the carcass, into your skin...
And you need someone to keep it like it's said-
Your wishes into the air.
So someone listens, someone is there,
And you won't know anything about it...
Until you have to live without it.

Diantha was relieved at the genuine grin on the Slytherin's face at the gift; she'd been expecting maybe a half hearted thanks and exchange of looks with Caty. She knew it was a bit... weird, after all. But Aimee seemed very happy with it and both her and Caty wanted to know more, and out of actual interest, not just politeness. Di was not at all accustomed to people actually wanting to know how she had made, well, anything. When all the other girls had shifted out of the friendship bracelet making stage in primary and she hadn't, it had garnered her a bit of a reputation. "It's really simple," she started, looking almost excited, but quickly realized she wasn't going to get far with the constant influx of party guests arriving. "I'll owl you instructions," she vowed, and stepped to the side a bit to let the others properly greet their hostess.

Chessie Van Asten was there, who she smiled at, despite not really knowing very well at all. Moments after the redhead there was Colin, who she was delighted to see, seeing as he was her housemate and a friend and not just a friendly acquaintance. She waved at him and stifled a snort of amusement (and agreement) about his commentary. Her house was big, but it was an old derelict summer house that hadn't been used as such in twenty years, and was constantly falling apart, despite magical upkeep. This was a proper manor house, with a expansive grounds and a small army of house elves. Taid and Nain would have been mad with jealousy; the McHalens had obviously kept their money.

There was little blonde Ralph Hastings, who she had only ever seen in passing; he was a Slytherin and just as overdressed, if not more, she thought, than her, and he had brought a gift as well. He was blushing, and Di wondered if he was just embarrassed about the whole thing, or if he had a crush on Aimee. She supposed it wasn't any of her business either way, but she enjoyed being observant and catching these sort of things. Then the Umber twins arrived, and she felt even more out of place, as they were both in tee shirts and shorts, like normal people. Still, Kiley had been her roommate all year, and she smiled at her housemate and her more talkative Gryffindor twin.

Then Brandon Davenport, who she'd only really talked to once, and that was because he was friends with Colin, and the sour blond Slytherin Leon showed up. Di liked Brandon well enough, but had made a very early decision to just avoid Leon McGregor, as he didn't seem like the friendliest individual, though Aimee looked thrilled at his appearance. Who knew what was going on there. Besides, she wasn't quite sure she could understand his thick Cockney accent either, and had never wanted to embarrass herself. They came in together, though, and she realized the two boys did know each other, though she wasn't sure how, besides being classmates. Were they related, then? Cousins? She couldn't just ask, unless she cornered Brandon, and that would probably be weird. And creepy. Better to stand here and pretend she had been to parties before. But she hadn't, and Di had no idea what she was supposed to do.

Di liked music, mostly more muggle than magical, though, or old music, as in, very old music, but she didn't think it was quite her place to be suggesting songs, and Tad and Isolde said it was rude to eat before your host or hostess, so she couldn't just hit up the snack table. Were they all supposed to do something together? What was she going to do if they split off into little groups? Could she ask if she could explore the house and not come off as rude and nosy? Probably not.

Chessie had barely joined the conversation when the next guest arrived, and she recognized Colin immediately. He was kind, albeit not super social, and had been one of her first acquaintances. She smiled and waved politely, maybe a little too enthusiastically. For some reason she was just glad he was there. Still, when she stopped waving, she looked at the ground and felt awkward. And then she felt stupid for feeling awkward for no reason. She wished her face didn’t feel so hot, she knew it was a shade redder than usual.

Slytherin Ralph was the next to show, and Chessie only knew his name from his introductions in class. It wasn’t until Kimberly Umber and her twin Kiley arrived that Chess felt a happy relief. She’d spent quite a bit of time with Kim, being roommates and all, and a friendship was blooming. Appreciating the distraction, she made her way over to her friend and offered a hug, also smiling and saying hello to Kiley. "Kim!" She said, "I love your owl shirt! How’s your summer? Are you excited to go back to school yet? Have you done your shopping? I wanted to go to Diagon soon to get some stuff." Chess was so enthused to chat with Kim that she barely noticed another of her housemates, Brandon, entered with another first year whose name escaped her mind. She gave them a wave and returned her attention to current affairs. Caty seemed to be more invested in her conversation with Aimee anyway, so Chess figured breaking off a bit wouldn’t be a crime. Besides, one big group interaction with this many people was a little outside Chess’s comfort zone.

spaceColin felt very odd when their classmate Ralph appeared and presented Aimee with a gift. It was obvious from the conversation between the girls that the candle Aimee held had also been one, from Di, and he wondered if he'd breached etiquette by not providing one himself. He'd had a few friends at his previous schools, but he'd never been invited to a party. He hadn't thought bringing presents was a custom, except at birthdays. Which, this wasn't Aimee's birthday, as far as he knew. The invitation hadn't said so. The Ravenclaw shifted uncomfortably, very suddenly feeling like an outsider, and one who had behaved rudely at that. It was ridiculous for him to feel that way, he thought, since he had been invited, after all. Had Caty brought a gift? ... Knowing her, yes, yes she had. That was probably a stupid question, in fact. But it didn't seem particularly like Chessie had... Was this some custom that they were the only ones unaware of? If so, he suddenly felt a slight kinship with the girl. Aimee didn't seem perturbed by them, or he didn't think she did. It was rather hard to tell with her most of the time. Truth be told, he hadn't been entirely sure that she actually liked him at all until he'd received the invitation to her party. She'd hardly invite him if she didn't. Though, their friendship, if that's what it was, was not one really suited to a party setting. Aimee was someone he sought when he wanted quiet, but not to be alone. It was a difficult thing to find someone who fulfilled the need for companionship while also being non-invasive. She was perfect for those instances. But, was that because of their mutual introversion, or simply because they didn't know what to say to one another?

spaceHe almost sighed in relief when Leon and Brandon arrived, mostly Brandon, of course. He didn't know Leon at all, and doubted very much if the Slytherin boy cared to change that. Brandon, on the other hand, was his friend, and one of the only friends he had who he was absolutely positive he was friends with. He found himself going so far as to question Caty at the moment, given that she hadn't acknowledged his arrival at all. She hadn't acknowledged the twins, either, and he realized that, in his awkwardness, neither had he, feeling awful for it. But, he didn't recall if Caty really knew Kiley and Kimberly, so her not acknowledging them wasn't so odd, though it was rather out of character for her not to at least say hi, he thought. Was she alright? Maybe she was just overwhelmed, too. Sometimes, he wondered if she had moments like that. He couldn't be the only one. Awkwardly, he cleared his throat, feeling like he was interrupting, though what, he had no idea, and he gave a half-hearted wave. "Um, hi, guys," he choked out awkwardly, directing the greeting towards everyone who'd arrived after he had. He didn't quite know what to say beyond that, and rather awkwardly shuffled so he was standing closer to Brandon, who made him feel slightly less like he shouldn't be there. He coughed awkwardly, unsurprised at the way the girls chattered. He'd give it maybe five minutes before the boys were all but forgotten.

Nike, like the rest of the second years, also received her invitation from her housemate Aimee to a party. She was in the middle of her knitting activities of scarves when her mother gave it to her, and of course she urge the young Slytherin to go. Well, she could not miss a nice gathering with people to talk to and besides, the manor was quite boring anyway (but at least, less boring since her brother apparently was playing the piano from time to time these days). So she prepared a sunny dress and at least with her mother's help she had her hair done, hopefully it could make up with the summer weather. Of course, her mother was the one to take her to the McHalen Manor with an apparition. Nike was impressed with the setting, though; the manor was quite, maybe as big as theirs. And would you look at that, a family crest on the gate as well on the front door in the form of a crown on the top of two intertwined snakes. Nice. She turned to her mother and told her, "I could take it from here," she said smiling. She knew she could trust her, because they were really close, and they both knew it. "Alright then," her mother answered, "Have fun, la chérie." and then she apparated back to their home.

She walked down to the door and was eventually escorted by a house elf, and she saw a bunch of familiar faces in the room. Oh look, there's Caty and Aimee talking happily to each other, not that she was surprised-- those two were really inseparable even Ray was aware of them being like two yarns stuck together in a knot. Also, don't get her wrong, Nike wasn't actually annoyed by them, she just... well, didn't really pay attention that much. They look really pretty in those dresses, though-- as Aimee was really looking cute in pink while Caty was wearing black, it was so matching it made her unknowingly blush in admiration. The young Lovette was carrying her usual leather shoudler bag, inside was a sunny yellow knitted scarf she just made just a few days ago. She was choosing from her small collection of her "masterpiece" from which of the color should she give to Aimee, thinking it was a good idea. Even though it was pretty much optional. But hey, at least a nice cozy scarf was going to be nice enough for a white winter, right? And there was Diantha, which Nike had been friends with a couple times, and she was talking about candles. Sweet, that was really nice. And then there was Colin, that small blond Ravenclaw who she talked with last February, being shy as ever. She kind of felt bad for him, so she decided to give him a wave and a smile, then went back to searching for people. And, ugh, Leon McGregor, no offense but who invited a grumpy guy with an accent that was pretty much worse than from what she could remember from her cousin's weird-looking husband Jer? Only heaven knows what was up.

She decided to walk to Aimee and Caty, greeting them, "Hi Aimee and Caty, thanks for the invite. The party's really nice," Then, she searched for something inside her messenger bag and she got a yellow scarf mentioned earlier, "I made this scarf for you, I hope you like the color, She gave Aimee a smile, also, she wasn't sure if her housemate even like the color yellow but maybe this shade of color would make it likable. Well, Aimee could always just wave it with a Colour Changing charm.

Unfortunately, the young second year had no idea why it was customary to bring a gift to a friend's house whom had just invited you to their abode. These were the customs and rules of higher classes of society, something the child had little to no interest in learning and, to no surprise, none of his peers seemed to understand, either. They all stared at the gift with worry leaking into their facial expressions, surely thinking to themselves, was I supposed to bring something?

Ralph hadn't intended for that sort of response with his gift. Of course it wasn't a birthday party or some strange jubilation in which it was required by tradition to bring something. In fact, if any one of his peers had asked him why he had brought something for the McHalens, Ralph would have shrugged and said, "I don't know, my parents told me too," and that would have been the end of that.

Instead, however, the second year was left in a predicament: now he looked like a complete suck-up, trying to one up everyone else at the party, when he was just simply trying to be polite.

                                                                  Was that so wrong?

Ralph watched Aimee place the gift down on the staircase beside her, not even remotely interested in its contents yet. Her pup, however, gave it more attention than she, sniffing it and eyeing it curiously. Ralph stared at the dog hard, willing it away from the package. Go on, get! He thought to himself, hoping that with enough willpower, the dog would obey.

It seemed to help. The creature soon lost interest and returned to its owner's lap, watching Ralph with its saucer-wide eyes. The Slytherin couldn't stand to look at it.

"Oh! You guys can help yourself to the food. My cousin baked it all and had Dolly and Jupiter bring it over this morning! The cupcakes were made by Caty though." As soon as food was mentioned, Ralph's eyes returned to their original undressing of the table.

The cupcakes were definitely eye-catching. And that was putting it lightly. In fact, if Ralph was going to be honest with himself, they were perhaps the most intricate cupcakes he had ever seen made. Surely, Caty had help from someone? Or maybe she bought them? They alternated between red with white polka dots and white with a ladybug, leaf and stem, and a simple flower. They were - dare he say it? - adorable.

It made his boyish insides want to gag, yet he was intrigued. Were they going to taste as good as they looked? Ralph looked between Caty and the cupcakes, gauging his classmate's skill based on appearance alone. As if it would help him figure out his answer.

Ralph was intrigued, to say the least, so he grabbed one (a simple red and polka dot one) and inspected it closer. The shapes were crisply cut, the lines were vividly contrasted, and the colors were at least normal, instead of pink and girly. He pulled away the paper on the bottom and, with delight, found that it was vanilla. Ralph took a big bite, his teeth ripping apart half the sweet.

It was an explosion of taste and textures in his mouth that he had never experienced before and he practically fell backwards from it. It was such a surprise to him. How did Caty, the most air-headed person he had ever met (but swore he would never, EVER, tell her that to her face), learn to bake something like that?

Ralph finished his cupcake in five seconds flat and stared hard at Caty. He really took her in this time, wondering if he hadn't been too hard on her, if he hadn't made such rash judgments of her capabilities before... it suddenly felt like he was meeting her for the first time all over again. But this time, he noticed the shade of her hair was like sunshine, the way she smiled was warming, and even the way her nose scrunched up when she laughed at something Aimee said. She was... she was...

The second year turned around completely, breaking his gaze away from Caty. What was he thinking? Caty? Adorable? He dared another glance at her over his shoulder. His face flushed pink as he watched her get excited over the suggestion of music, "Music yes! I wonder if you have a radio around here or a wireless hidden around here, then we could get you up to speed on the good magical music. There isn't a lot to be honest but the few there is isn't too bad."

Trying to compose himself, the Slytherin boy took in a few deep breaths. He reached for another cupcake, pulled back the paper, and ate it in one humongous bite. He practically choked, the cupcake threatening to lodge itself in his throat, but he reached for a glass of pumpkin juice and downed it.

Still, he felt strange being here. It was as if he didn't belong, that he wasn't "part of the group" in some way. He was Slytherin, alright, but it felt like he wasn't authentic. Like he was trying to be something he wasn't. Was the hat right in thinking that he should have been in Hufflepuff? Ralph looked around at the other house guests, recognizing some, while he could remember very few of their names. The feeling of alienation rose in his chest and he felt the sting of it in his eyes. He needed to just get away for a second.

"Hey Aimee," he approached her a little off to the side, trying not to look at Caty as he did, "Where's the loo?"

Aimee courteously directed him in the direction of the bathroom, telling him which door it was and how to find it. Ralph thanked her and went on his way. He was relieved to escape the social setting, especially with his mind and body acting so strange. He didn't understand what was going on and why he felt the way he did, but it made Ralph uncomfortable. A quick splash of water on my face should shake me from this, the boy told himself as the sounds of the party faded away. It was quiet in the other part of the house. It would be good to get his bearings, at least.

                                                                  --------------------------------------------

When Ralph returned to the party, everything was in full swing. Music was playing from a radio that had been dug up from somewhere, laughter and conversations filled the air, and Ralph had a sense of freshness that boosted his confidence.

He slid right up next to Caty, "So, you want to learn how to make candles someday?" That's a stupid question, Ralph, he kicked himself mentally. Candles? That was his strategy to getting to know Caty better? Talking about candles? Boy, he needed to get better at talking to girls...

                                                      I'm Sorry
                                                      I don't meanto remember
It's true that I dream less often
                                                      I'm not ashamed.
                                                      Of that long December.
                                                      Your hand's coming down again.

Victoria hopped into the huuuuggeeee house and stared at all the things just lining the entry way let alone the rest of the house. She was certain she was going to get lost within a day of living there. It was a big change from her tiny 2 bedroom apartment. She could probably fit the whole apartment into just the kitchen of this place. She walked along, one arm wrapped tightly around her stuffed Grindylow... which apparently was a real creature according to Aimee's dad. She was being introduced to a whole new world. Her big sister was a... witch! It was crazy talk really, but her new dad (Aimee's dad really), had even proved it by leading them into a back alley next to the courthouse after the verdict and holding tight to both her and Aimee and then poof! they were standing right in front of this new house. And how much more proof could the 4 year old ask for?!?

She stood quietly in the entryway staring at the walls. She couldn't believe how all this had happened. Her daddy had always been a bit rough with her... throwing her around when she was bad, making her scrub her hands for hours if she played in the dirt, making her skip dinner when she back talked, and lots of other things. But she had always been bad and punishement was normal for children right? But then her daddy had to go and take her into his bedroom and touch her in icky places. And so after her daddy went to work she told her mummy who just laughed at her and told her to stop making up lies for attention. But when Victoria had insisted she wasn't lying her mother had turned to anger and screaming. Telling Victoria it was her own fault and that she was just as much of a whore as Aimee was.

Of course she wasn't one to stand idly by and let injustices happen, so she waited til her mummy went to work, leaving her alone at the apartment. Then she took the elevator down and walked off to the closest police station. She was glad she knew how to read or she would have never found her way there! But she did, and she told the police everything. They immediately called up some lady from CPS whatever that stood for and the lady took her away from her mummy and daddy. She asked a bunch of questions and then finally asked her if she had any other family. Victoria only knew of her big sister who lived with her daddy and so she told the nice lady about them, and then poof Michael was there picking her up and taking her in. A couple months later her sister came home from school and then they went to the big court house with the people in the seats who listened to her and her big sister talk before deciding what to do with her mummy and daddy. Apparently her daddy was a child predator and her mummy was an uh-com-plis. Whatever that was. All she knew was that Aimee had told her they would never ever touch her again and that she was living with Aimee and her daddy now.

Which was fine with her... except this house was big and she was small and she was sure to get lost soon and then no one would ever find her and she would be sad and lonely and that would be even worse than living with her mummy and daddy. She was scared. She was oh so very scared. The toddler squeezed her Grindylow tighter, her lip quivering quietly, and before she knew it she was crying and then she was sobbing, all while standing in the entryway of the huge house that wasn't her home.

At that, Michael's eyes went wide and he blinked. Why was she crying? Shouldn't she be happy. He glanced at Aimee but before he could do anything to comfort the child, Aimee was on her knees infront of Victoria, and wrapping her arms around her. "Its okay Victoria. I know its big and scary and not your home, but it will be soon. Soon it will feel like you've never lived anywhere but here, and then it won't be scary anymore. And da is gonna take us shopping tomorrow to find you a pet to keep you company and go with you when you decide to explore this place. And Christmas is in a couple weeks and then you'll get to meet the rest of our family and they'll love you. So you can cry right now if you want too, but I promise you its not as scary as it feels. Do you wanna see your room? Da set it up especially for you." The little girl's tears had calmed down throughout the semi-rant of Aimee's and now she nodded her head slowly, still hiccuping from the sobbing fit. Michael blinked in confusion. How had she known what to say? Why was his 14 year old daughter better at this parenting thing than him? He had 4 kids... 5 now. You'd think he'd be good at this by now, but the last time he'd had a toddler was.... over 20 years ago. Wow he was old.

"Daddy Mikey is gonna get me a...a p-pet?" Aimee nodded and she offered up the tiniest of smiles. "Whas my room look like Aimee?" Instead of answering, Aimee took her hand and led her up the stairs to where the child's room would be.

                                                      My scars are yours today
                                                      This story ends so good
I love you and I understand
That you stood where I stand

xxxClose my eyes... and brace myself
                                                      xxxxxxOnly noticed your face
xxxxxxxxxNo matter what you're gonna build my... shell
                                                      xxxxxxxxxxxxI'm done healing.
                                                      xxxxxxxxx
                                                      I'm... done... healing...

Aimee opened the door the manor and led her boyfriend in carefully. He had never met her family before, which was daunting enough as it is, let alone the fact that her father had decided to make it as awful as possible by inviting almost all the immediate family over. All her sisters, Gracie, and a bunch of her nieces and nephews were all going to be there. They were alone for only a couple moments before Victoria came barreling down the stairs and launched into a hug that was wrapped around Aimee's torso. The kid was getting pretty big, Aimee couldn't believe it. She smiled and hugged the 7 year old tightly. "Hello Victoria. This is Viktor, my boyfriend. I've told you all about him remember." Victoria nodded solemnly and waved at him before tugging on her sisters hand.

"Come on. Everyone is in the dining room waiting for you guys!" Aimee internally groaned and let the child lead her into the dining room, where no exxageration, a small army of her family sat. She shook her head before grinning at them all.

"As promised, everyone, this is Viktor." She stated, and he waved and smiled awkwardly while giving a short hello.
She started pointing out individuals slowly. Somehow her father had even gotten Michelle to come which was impressive. That usually meant Tay was off doing something that he didn't want to get her involved in. He had definitely matured from what she'd heard. When they'd been kids,
he'd dragged her into all of his shenanigans. "So that's my eldest sister Michelle, and then Elli and Ver are next, and Victoria is my youngest sister. Gracie is my cousin, but she was basically raised by my da so she's like a sister too. Then we have all their children. The twins over there are Gracie's. Gwyn and Rhydian. She also has another daughter Eve who's off at school. Elli's kids aren't here but they are Chance who's a third year, Kory who just started school, and Lilah and Lilith the other twins. That right there is Sawyer, she's Ver's kid. Michelle doesn't have any kids."

She shook her head in disbelief at how big her family was. And this was only the ones who were blood related to her da. If they included all of Michelle's weird family that had somehow joined in on their family too, then it just got more complicated. Viktor already knew all of that though. She and Viktor took their spots at the table, while her father started asking him questions about his life. When asked about his family, Aimee answered for him. "He was raised by his great uncle Meuric... who works at Lyv's shop actually. He just calls him his grandfather though. They're welsh. He has 3 cousins that are alive too. Rodderick, Tegan, and Mabyn. Roderick was actually in my year but a Hufflepuff."

I’m smiling in Los Angeles like I’ve got fishhooks in the corners of my mouth
And I’m celebrating on weekends
Because there are 7 billion 47 million people on the planet
And I have the audacity to think I matter
I know it’s a lie but I prefer it to the alternative
We’re every age at once and tucked inside ourselves like Russian nesting dolls
And that’s the
glue between me and you
We live in a house made of each other
