It would have taken someone VERY observant in people watching to notice the faint tells Aiden was giving off. He didn't like being trapped but with no other option but to let those pinning him to touch him as they pleased. The girl at his side was the most adventurous, looping a leg over his thigh as much as she could with his legs being crossed, her hand trailing patterns along the button seams of his school uniform. He kept his smile in place, midnight blue orbs docile, as she purred suggestively about what agency he worked for. As he didn't know he just shrugged one shoulder lightly and gripped the necklace tighter as she wiggled in a way that left nothing to the imagination. He brushed a distracting kiss across her lips that had her eyes glazing slightly before she was suddenly pulled away by her hand at the insistence of a certain brunette who smiled and asked to borrow him.

A second later Aiden was pulled to his feet in a graceful move by his own arm and pulled out of the room. One one hand he was no longer trapped by the group of people and yet on the other he could practically feel the anger radiating from the brunette pulling him which had every muscle in his body relaxing into full submission for what he knew was coming. It wouldn't be the first time he was dragged from a room, at least it was by his arm and not his hair.

Once free Dorian turned and faced him down with arms across his chest and annoyance written in every line of his expression as he politely asked if he knew what the words 'no' meant. The midnight blue orbs dropped to the ground submissively as Aiden's shoulders rolled protectively inward. The hand on the necklace lifted it to his lips and ran the cool metal across the full bottom lip in a slow motion. He was debating what his response should be. The brunette had already shown he much preferred honesty which would likely get him hurt less, yet honesty was something he'd equally been taught by bitter experience to avoid because no one wanted it. Truth came with opinions and desires and was something to be kept to his self while the other person took what they wanted. No had only been something to scream when the pain got to much, before your mouth was covered so the screams had no where else to go.

"No...doesn't mean anything."he finally settled on, suddenly feeling very locked in, in this building he knew nothing about. He wanted to go to where he could at least understand the rules of the game, somewhere where he wasn't forced into odd reactions because of one kiss shared with a mark he'd already stripped of money. He hadn't had enough time to adapt to the new surroundings and it was harder still with his confusing bubble of never-expressed emotions over Dorian. He kept wondering more what HE'D think than what would help him survive the situation. If he'd taken that girl up on the offer he could have slipped away somewhere quiet with her, taken her money and given her all she wanted before running with what he had. Instead he was trapped once more in a hallway with the brunette who refused to want him despite the fact that his body went with the desire quite well. It made the dark haired boy edgy and he unconsciously began shifting his weight, little by little, back away from the brunette and further down the hall.

"You should get back to your rehearsal before they have to come find you."he warned the brunette with a flash of his inviting smile, only flawed by the stripe of silver caught between his teeth as he clicked the necklace over the white enamel.

Dorian was trying really hard not to appear threatening, especially once he saw the body language the other was displaying. Rather than being open and inviting it looked unsure and borderline afraid. Again the change would have been harder to spot in anyone else but even the smaller signs flared like neon to Dorian when it came to the dark blue eyed boy. He continued to keep his arms crossed, half convinced any sudden movement would spur that flinch he'd felt earlier when Amy had reached for him.

He furrowed his eyebrows in confusion at the answer, working through it again in his mind. That... That was a hell of an attitude to have. The brows lifted and Dorian's eyes widened. For a minute he didn't even know what to say.

"Yes, it does," he said firmly, watching Aiden. The boy looked ready to bolt and Dorian had 'no' idea how to stop him without making things worse. It was like dealing with a wounded animal, trying to see how bad the wound was without making things worse but causing a panic. Aiden was of course more likely to flee than bite but Dorian didn't want that either.

His voice softened, a quiet soothing murmur. "Listen, no one here will touch you if you don't want them to, alright? I'll make sure of it. But I can't know if you don't want it unless you say something." in his head Dorian was making a note to get that particular girl kicked off whatever project she was on or at least having her schedule rearranged to times they wouldn't have to run into her. That and a company wide warning about a no-tolerance harassment policy. Show biz was not kind to those who pissed off it's stars.

"I'm on break," he answers simply. He watched Aiden another moment and then very slowly too a step backwards, even though he would much rathe have done the opposite.

"When I said no one, I included myself," he said softly. "I'm not going to hurt you, Aiden."

Aiden glanced to the side, not responding to Dorian's firm denial about the state of 'no', it wasn't his place to come out and say that he was wrong. Again, a learned behaviour, but the truth was that he was. No never meant anything, but it was nice to think that at least for Dorian it might. Then again, he was a dominate personality, maybe it worked differently for him. Aiden had given up fighting back a long, long time ago.

Slowly his head came up slightly at the softer, soothing tone. Responding instinctively to it on a level even deeper than what he'd been taught by life. Not quite sure if he could trust it but backing a little bit back down from the panic by the tones if nothing else. he was being promised that no one would touch him, but he'd have to say something. Was that just the empty promises he'd received his whole life? Or was it part of how the game was played here in this strange portion of the world?

The silver necklace was pulled across his lips in a contemplative motion as he worked through this newest bit of information. He didn't know the rules, but you always had to learn them for a new situation. Like his mother, each drug meant she changed some of the triggers. So was that why Dorian seemed to be sending off as many mixed signals as he was? Because he was playing by this rule set that Aiden didn't know yet? That left the question up to would he be here long enough to make it profitable to LEARN these new rules?

Movement had him sucking in a quick breath and tensing automatically as his gaze snapped into focus on the brunette once more, only to realize he'd taken a step back. Moving further down the hallway with a simple answer to his warning about not letting his pimp catch him out here when he should be preforming. He looped his tongue around the silver appearing chain, head tipping slowly to the side at the next promise he was offered. Wary doubt warred with the strange boil of emotions he felt towards this particular male as his posture lost some of the tenseness from being ready to bolt. Maybe it WOULD be worth learning the new rules...because then he might understand enough to get back that kiss.

"What if I want you too?"he asked slowly, his bedroom voice a rich purr gained from memories of just how well the brunette did when given an open invitation. He wanted it even when he knew that there hadn't been enough time for him to even get money back. It wasn't usual for him. He would be better off finding a mark here in this building full of wealth and middle class and take it from them. Yet he was finding that he didn't want to disappoint Dorian. Which was bad, very, very bad.

He knew better than to hope for acceptance or worse, love. The fact he might be doing so now meant he really needed to turn around and leave. Yet he knew he couldn't. How many times had he gone back to that dingy apartment and his mother's arms on the off chance that maybe this time he'd be good enough for her? Yet here he was making the same mistake with a different person...a broken promise just waiting to happen. Not that anyone would blame him for breaking a promise with someone like Aiden.

"What do you want me to do?"there was a trace of defeat in his docile tone, as he accepted the fact that he was once more walking down a pathway that would break him. Some part of him enjoyed the fate waiting for him while a tiny part curled up in his chest and ached for what was coming. still, he handed over power to the light blue eyed male in front of him because he wanted him to turn to him for protection. Dorian already was owned by a pimp, it was suicide to trust him. He'd just have to learn the rules quickly, and find the fastest way to escape for when he fell over the knifes edge because he couldn't give the brunette anything but exactly what he wanted.

▃▃▃ ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

Dorian saw the way Aiden seemed to be on edge the moment he moved and was glad he’d decided to risk a step backwards instead of forwards. At the very least Aiden no longer looked like a jack rabbit ready to bolt at the smallest sign of movement. Dorian hadn’t come across the kind of fear that did that to someone in his own life. Life simply hadn’t put him in those kind of situations. Technically this wasn’t a situation that needed to be run from either, not for Aiden, but he couldn’t find a way to explain that out loud in a way that would make enough sense to pass as a credible argument.

Dorian let out a breath at the purred request, steadying himself. He was an adult, or nearly one, and he was going to deal with this situation without taking the easy path out and letting his libido push everything aside to be dealt with later. He had more control than that, even if certain features of his anatomy didn’t seem to realize it yet. He took a mental step backwards and tried to reorganize his thoughts into something coherent and useful, letting his eyes shut for a moment so he would haven’t to see the darker blue orbs locked on him. When he opened his eyes again, his gaze was steady and didn’t waiver from the other boy’s face.

“’Yes’ doesn’t mean anything unless ‘no’ means something too,” he pointed out calmly. And it was true in every sense. Unless you had an opposite or opposing force, there was nothing to define something by. And if Aiden could only say yes, then it was the same as saying nothing. Wanting someone because you wanted everyone wasn’t the same was wanting them.

He found the wall and leaned back against it, letting his head thump lightly against the plaster. The conversations with Aiden always seemed to come back around to this point. What did Dorian want from him? But there wasn’t a good answer because the singer didn’t know himself. He wasn’t supposed to want anything. Not from this boy.

”I want you to find me if you get in trouble,” he said finally, eyes tracing the ceiling. ”I said I would look out for you and I will, but that’s all I can give you. I’m … there’s someone I want to say ‘yes’ to me. But I screwed things up. And I don’t think he wants me anymore.” Even as he said it Dorian wasn’t sure why he was confessing this. He’d meant to just say he was interested in someone else. But the bitter sentiment, the sad wistfulness that was better kept private, had simply tumbled from his lips. It probably had something to do with the way Aiden looked like he had heard every sin and forgiven them all. And the singer was still looking for someone to forgive him for what he’d done.

Blue eyes closed again as he gathered his composure once more and when he opened them again the polite smile was back. He nodded his head in a faint apology for the unwarranted extra information. He held out his hand. “Are you coming back to the studio with me?” Or was he going to run after all?

Oddly enough, having the brunette visibly react to his statement and offer calmed him down a little. He knew where and what he was when it came to bedroom games. He didn't have to learn anything new or worry about not understanding where he stood. They could be painful and harbored enough memories to be a problem but he was good at blocking those out. What was important was that for some reason he WANTED this boy, not just for a moment's money but because he was drawn to him. It was stupid and going to cause him more troubles than he wanted but he could at least be honest with himself about it even if he'd never voice it as being anything other than basic lust.

"Yes doesn't mean much either."he calmly pointed out in return when Dorian finally collected himself enough to respond. Opinion, desire, none of it mattered. You took what someone gave you no matter what form it came in. The difference was in being good enough to channel the pain and anger into forms he could take. He liked it rough and that was easy to shift other things into and let him get what he wanted. Midnight blue eyes watched as Dorian leaned back against the wall and he waited for the answer to the most important question he'd asked today. Because he really DID want to know what the other boy wanted from him. Unfortunately it wasn't the answer he'd been hoping for.

Dark head tipping to one side Aiden's blue eyes meekly watched as his welcoming smile stayed in place. Nothing to give away the emotions locked behind his eyes. Learning to never give anything away was the first step in keeping safe and he used it even when a rare flare of emotion pulsed through him. He should be used to it, the only two things he'd ever wanted and he was rejected by both.

"Your boyfriend? He seemed to want you well enough. Maybe you should buy him something."his bedroom voice, like his expression, gave nothing away as he offered the advice that he'd seen work before. His mother certainly seemed to only be happy when someone was giving her something. But then no matter how much he gave she didn't love him so perhaps it didn't work. But he could remember how well the other dark haired boy had responded to Dorian that night, he seemed more than into it.

He didn't respond to the request to come to him, because he doubted he would. He knew better than to trust someone, even if for a moment he'd been willing to trust this boy, but his interest lay elsewhere and the protection would probably only be occasionally anyway. Better to learn how to protect himself quickly than rely on someone and get hurt again.

His hand lifted and trailed a finger delicately down the silver of his necklace before lifting it up towards his lip and playing the metal along his teeth and bottom lip as he smiled full of invitation he knew was rejected and nodded. Aiden knew what path lay ahead of him but he also knew that there was something broken in him that would have him walking it. He couldn't seem to break away from the brunette, even to protect himself, so he was doomed to face the rejection over and over again. Still, he could learn the rules and try. He tried to this day with his mother, maybe one day he'd be good enough for one of them.

"If you'd like."he lifted the hand not playing with the necklace and settled it in the offered one. His chest tight with emotion that would never rise to be visible in his eyes or expression as he let the other boy guide him back to the studio.

“So it doesn’t mean a thing to you whether someone says yes or no,” Dorian summarized, matching the calm tone. Mixed feelings about that bubbled up underneath his skin. On the one hand, that meant he could ignore the slight twinges of guilt he felt when he pushed the boy away, didn’t it? If it didn’t mean anything, then Dorian could push or pull and Aiden would barely notice. Which contributed to the other half of his reaction. Aiden would barely notice. Damnit, Dorian didn’t like not being noticed. It was sort of a star requirement, that love of attention and spotlight and the hunger to prove that he deserved the attention. Which completely explained why he was being so stupid about this, disliking the idea of being shuffled onto Aiden’s ‘ignore’ list. He would be fine with getting the same smiles Aiden gave to everyone, would be alright if he didn’t get to see under that curtain again. He’d keep his promise, keep his distance, keep his temper under control.

And there was still that tiny part of him trying to respond the little call he wasn’t even sure was real. That brief glimpse behind the pretty mask Aiden wore that made Dorian want to place himself firmly between the rest of the world and Aiden and tell both halves to get a damn grip. The singer resisted the urge to start massaging his temples which would have been a clear giveaway of the headache he could feel coming on.

Dorian shook his head in answer to both parts of Aiden’s next response. He waved his hand in a vague gesture, pushing the other boy’s guess aside. “No, that was lust,” he corrected, doing his best to urge the bitter part out of his voice, maintain the calm, reasonable tones that he needed to portray. Again, he should have let the conversation drop. But there had been no one else to talk to about this and his mouth couldn’t seem to resist the opportunity to shoot off. His form slumped slightly and the light blue eyes closed as Dorian adjusted himself, leaning against one of the hallway walls. Stupid. He was stronger than this. It wasn’t fair that night colored eyes and a soft voice with a pretty smile could make him just want to talk, if only to keep the conversation going, to keep it from fading. “I don’t know. I thought he did. But watching him start to undress someone else, right in front of me, knowing I was in the damn room… And then I got ******** drunk and it wasn’t just me he slept with,” Dorian added, eyes opening and tracing tiredly over Aiden’s. He didn’t blame Aiden for that, but the incident still pissed him off.

He did manage part of a grin when he thought of Aiden’s suggestion though. “You want me to bribe Aizen? You going to visit me in the hospital?” he chuckled, shaking his head. “He knows I’d get him anything he wanted if he asked me for it, but I don’t think flashing money is going to make him happy since I chose to leave him for half a year earning it.”

He curled his fingers around Aiden’s hand, surprised for a moment at how warm it was. That shouldn’t have thrown him off. Aiden was human after all, everyone was warm to one degree or another. He just seemed to removed from everything…

He took his time heading back to the studio, no longer in the mood to rehearse. Maybe he could convince them to cut practice short.

"It doesn't mean anything if I say it."Aiden qualified with a slight shrug of one shoulder. It wasn't a statement made to gain pity or understanding, it was simply the truth. Nothing he'd ever said had made any difference so he learned it was better just to do what was wanted and expected of him and walk away from the encounter. So he'd never learned to accept or decline something from those around him. He just went with it all. He accepted no and rejection from others because he was well used to it. Even in what he did best he sometimes wasn't good enough.

Head tipping to one side Aiden stopped worrying about the conversation on 'no'. As a dominate Dorian likely wouldn't ever understand what he meant so he let the conversation go. Easier by far to concentrate on the form of the one thing that was truly bothering him at the moment. The fact that the brunette seemed upset with his boyfriend, even though the knowledge that Aiden could never have Dorian hurt he kept it hidden and gave the other boy what he wanted. Someone to talk to about his dark haired lover.

"It always is."lust was what made the world go around, it was what let him keep living, it was what people confused for love although in his section of the world he'd only seen it on a single movie. Love wasn't a concept that existed in the darkness of LA's backstreets. Lust did though.

"Maybe he needs three, occasionally it happens."Aiden made the suggestion sound perfectly reasonable in his bedroom voice, thinking back to the evening they had shared and remembering how far Dorian's boyfriend had gone with the games they'd played. He'd been as sober as Aiden and just as into every second of it. Fetishes were not unusual. Although apparently the other boy wasn't much into gifts. Given to Aiden they were proof he was worth something, he couldn't understand that, but then Dorian would know the other boy best. If they were long time lovers.

"Why didn't he go with you?"A trace of the natural curiosity so well hidden behind his meek blue gaze. Because for the kiss he'd shared, just once, Aiden was willing to follow Dorian here. For a promise of more...he would have done anything the other boy wanted. Why was the brunette's boyfriend any different?

Thinking lightly on these concerns, although nothing touched the inviting smile and walk as his hand was taken and they moved back down the hallway, Aiden worked to mentally build the picture of the boy known as Aizen. Because he was distracted he was once more ignoring the rejection from earlier and walking close enough to brush the boy at his side as he kept his docile midnight gaze on the tile and his body language open and accepting as always. He had a lot to think about now, he'd need to assimilate quickly to pull it all off.

“Then tell me when you wish it did and I’ll say it,” Dorian said, a slight frown marring his calm as he watched the shrug. He didn’t like this circular argument. They could go around in circles for days, both of them convinced they were right. For all his submissive tendencies, Aiden was proving to be awfully stubborn internally. He didn’t know everything but when he thought he did he seemed to determined to stick with it come hell or high water. If only Dorian could convince himself that Aiden wouldn’t have to go through hell for it. But that boy just had a way of looking for trouble, didn’t he? Looking for it, asking for it, seducing it… Dorian didn’t regret his self appointed task of trying to put some kind of a reign on what Aiden was doing but he was beginning to realize exactly how difficult that would be without any cooperation from the dark haired male.

“No,” he snapped suddenly, shooting a glare at Aiden. He regretted the outburst in an instant and softened again, regret flashing through the lighter blue eyes as he watched for a sign of Aiden running. He was still for a moment, letting his body relax, trying appear as nonthreatening as possible. When he spoke again, Dorian’s words had returned to the soothing, talking-to-wild-animals tone in an attempt to keep the other boy from bolting. “I mean, it’s not always lust. That’s always going to be there, I suppose, but there needs to be more to it.” Dorian was very firm on this point. The singer was, in a strange kind of way, a romantic. He believed in love, he believed in doing stupid things for the person you were with, believed in only being with one person and having your focus be completely on them. His nature told him you loved one person above all others. Which was why the confusion between Aizen’s new attitude and his own towards Aiden was biting at him so deeply. It wasn’t in his character to be split or confused when it came to love.

Dorian really didn’t want to think about the idea of Aizen needing a threesome. It was one thing to be aware that there were people who might need that kind of thing and while he was fine with it in the abstract, the brunette didn’t like it much when it was in his face. The idea of not being enough for someone, to make them seek out a third party to sate whatever desires they had, did not sit well with him. Be it ego or romance or plain selfishness, Dorian did not like sharing. Even if the fuzzy memories held nothing but pleasure. He wasn’t going to drink for a year if this kind of self-analyzing crap was what he had to put up with the next day.

He was pulled rather abruptly from his internal grumblings by the rather innocent question. The answer was easy. The reasoning behind it was so overly complicated Dorian wouldn’t have known where to begin. A chuckle slipped from his lips again, dead in the air. “I didn’t let him.” There. It was Dorian’s own fault he was in this mess. Might as well admit it now. Whatever Aiden thought of him, Dorian was far from an expert at relationships or knowing what to say or how to use words. Which might have made him a bit of a hypocrite when it came to the recent lectures on what Aiden was supposed to be doing, but too bad.

He paused outside the door, half aware of the body heat next to him as he attempted to shift his thoughts into a more professional state. He needed to wrap up the rehearsal, fulfill his promise to escort Aiden to the photo shoot, and haul them both back to the school. And try to keep Aiden from inviting anyone into a closet along the way.

He didn’t think requests or pleading or gentle nudges were going to have much effect on Aiden. He resorted to something a little different this time, pausing outside the studio door to turn and face Aiden, blue eyes sliding over him once and then lifting to the soft face seriously. “Behave.” The word was a touch deeper, a half caress of linked syllables as he locked on the other’s eyes. Since Aiden seemed to respond best on this level, he would use it when he needed to. And some part of Dorain reveled in capturing the fleeting attention for a moment longer. He was going to look out for him, even if being that close and doing nothing else drove a part of his own mind crazy.

A hand lifted and touched dark hair, holding it for a moment as he leaned forward, using his height to press his lips against the pale forehead. He hadn’t meant to do that, but it was done now and at least it was something that could be shuffled into the platonic category. He let go of the soft hair and turned to open the door, planning to explain that rehearsal was over for the day.

Aiden had given his one shoulder shrug again in a slight action of acknowledgment that showed he'd heard the brunette but didn't exactly see how his option would help. Like Dorian he knew that it was a topic they weren't going to be seeing eye to eye on. So he let it go there rather than risk an argument and potential pain.

Almost as soon as he'd thought that the male at his side suddenly snapped a short no in response to his statement, his blue eyes glaring at the midnight pair that instantly dropped docily to the ground. Because his hand was in the other boy's he couldn't pull away to avoid the attack he was sure was going to follow up the harsh word, and not seeing the flash of regret he tensed his shoulders and braced. His heart beat had accelerated but he was trying to keep as much of his reaction from showing as possible because that only made a situation worse. His gaze flickered up in a lightning quick movement when Dorian evened out his tone and explained that it wasn't always about lust.

Aiden didn't believe him, because he'd never touched a world where something like what Dorian was talking about could exist. The fluid world he lived in had no room for something as soft as love and lust was as close as you could get to it. There was no romance in Aiden's soul because it had been beaten out by the world in harsh lessons. The soothing tone didn't calm him much either as he'd had that directed at him before even while taking whatever the person wanted him to. His first time the man had whispered sweetly into his ear that it would be alright, he should stop screaming because he'd enjoy it soon. On top of the harsh snap he wasn't trained to believe it. He would have pulled away if he thought he could have gotten his hand free and bolted before the blow landed, as he didn't he was tensed up and submissive enough that he was practically radiating it.

He only came a little out of the submissive posture when Dorian chuckled in a dead sort of way and said that he hadn't let the boy follow him. He curled his fingers around the necklace and played with it the way one might a worry stone as he chewed his lip and argued against his natural protective instincts and the much newer need to be close to the brunette at his side. Finally the curiosity won and sliding a look out of the corner of his eye he softly asked:

"Why not? If you want him?"his bedroom voice was a low purr, almost as if his tone sought to sooth out the reaction he might get for the words that had slipped free. He came easily to a stop when the other boy did, just outside the door, waiting for his answer more than he probably should have when blue eyes shifted back to him and looked him over. A single word, a command from a dominate that had his posture shifting subtly back to the submissive open acceptance as he nodded slightly to show he accepted the command.

Only to flinch slightly when a hand lifted towards his face, holding his breath as his smile froze on his lips. Yet the painful sting didn't rip across his skull, instead his hair was lightly touched. Startled he lifted his head slightly so the midnight blue could look more fully on the brunette to try and figure out what step this belonged to in the rules of the changed game only to have lips press briefly against his forehead.

For a second the carefully constructed image vanished. His eyes filled with a sort of shocked wonder, a wounded hope that had been crushed far to many times as his lips softened into a small 'o' of surprise. His whole posture softened to match, for just a second someone that desperately wanted something so far out of his reach but given a glimpse of it. And then it was over and Dorian was stepping back and Aiden felt the crack in his composure bleed as it did ever time he thought something might change.

Dropping his head so the ink black strands hid his eyes, Aiden slipped past the singer into the room and moved back along the walls. He was staying in the shadows, for once not drawing attention to himself. Shifting from seducer to something else the street had breed true. A pickpocket, a thief, a shadow amid the other shadows. His gaze, hidden by the dark bangs, stayed locked on the brunette who seemed to be only the second person in Aiden's life that could destroy him without trying. His hand fisted around the pendant hanging below his shirt.

▃▃▃ ▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

“I thought I was doing the right thing. I listened to others. It was a mistake.” Dorian heard the answer like the incoherent mess it was. His eyes settled on the flash of white-gold and watched it, briefly comforted by the sight if not the weight and feel of the cool material against his skin. He didn’t play with it quite as much as Aiden was now, but he understood the impulse, or thought he did anyway. Hopefully it would at least distract Aiden enough to keep those eyes from seeing that he was leaving things out. Because the best answer and what he feared would be the worst one was ‘I thought I was protecting him’. He couldn’t say that because he’d just offered to protect Aiden. And if Aiden thought that Dorian’s protection meant nothing more than leaving for six months, how could he get the dark haired boy to ever trust him? Aiden would stop listening before he could explain that the circumstances were different this time, either because he’d run off or his attention would slip away behind that imploring smile.

After the brief, chaste kiss it had taken more than Dorian had thought for him to turn around and walk away from Aiden. Because that other Aiden had somehow reappeared, the one he just briefly glimpsed when there was a crack in the mask, the one that made him look younger and vulnerable and called out to Dorian’s instincts for protection. That was the Aiden he was doing this for, both keeping close and walking away. He knew he had already contributed to the list of people who had taken advantage of Aiden and confirmed the dark eyed boy’s view on the world. He could take some responsibility, even if he couldn’t change what had happened.

And when the hazy memories darted through his mind, he wasn’t sure he wanted to change it. He was too selfish for that, to lose even the small bits he could remember. However screwed up it had been, there was no denying it had also been amazing.

Inside the room, he apologized and explained that he’d had a rough night and would appreciate it if practice could end for the day. He had to be careful not to offend anyone. Dorian was at the top now, but odds were he wouldn’t always be and he didn’t want to burn any bridges. Fortunately he dealt with decent people who were more than willing to accept an early day as they would be paid the same regardless. Dorian grinned, shook hands with a couple and accepted a kiss on the cheek from the dancer he’d been trying not to trip over. He did his best to look politely charmed and she seemed to accept it. He couldn’t help wondering if Aiden, with his own ability to charm, could see that he had to fake it.

Because no matter what he did, the singer’s mind continued to stray back to the little shadow in the corner. The unmolested, I-am-not-here shadow who seemed to turn attention away the way it was usually drawn in. Which was odd because Dorian now felt acutely aware of his presence. Not having him front and center in everyone’s attention meant Dorian wasn’t trying to ignore what was going on so his mind was free to focus. And it liked focusing on Aiden.

His smile was gentler than it had been the last time he’d woven his way through the crowd to find Aiden, undeniably pleased at having actually been listened to. “Thank you for waiting,” he said, relief in his voice. He couldn’t resist tousling the dark tresses with one hand, wanting to feel the soft texture one more time. He kept the movement brief, for the sake of their audience and the sake of his own freaking sanity. He needed to stop touching the boy because it wasn’t helping him remember he needed to keep a certain distance. Maybe he could talk to Aiden about his habit of walking so close. …later. Not yet.

“Your turn,” he said, extending a hand again. What had been that about touching? But he was only leading him to the photographer’s room. It was nothing. It had to be.

"Mmm, why not make him take you back?"the dark haired boy asked softly, a perfect way to respond in his world. Dorian was clearly the dominate with the other dark haired boy, he should be able to force him around to whatever he wanted. That was how it worked in the street, and given the brunette had a pimp of his own he should be familiar with the concept. Although the mind behind the docile blue orbs turned over the information and began rearranging and storing in new locations. Building up relationships and facts about the people around him to work against. He was always more effective when he knew what buttons to push, but in some ways it was almost more important just to figure out the brunette than learn how to protect himself from him.

Because Dorian continued to pull at emotions and responses that Aiden wasn't sure how to deal with. The first kiss they shared that haunted him and he found himself seeking whatever had been in it with kisses from others and now the soft brush of lips against his forehead that troubled him just as deeply. His swirling thoughts, well concealed behind the empty invitation of his expression, kept him occupied enough to remain in the shadows as his midnight gaze watched Dorian move back into the group with instant ease.

His hand briefly closing bruising tight around the diamond pendant when the girl from earlier brushed a kiss across the brunette's cheek as he calmly accepted it and explained that he was calling the rehearsal early. Further confused with the tightening that spread through his chest he dropped his gaze to the floor and stared at it sightlessly as he brought an impressive mind into working on surviving in this new world. He couldn't rely on Dorian to protect him, he couldn't rely on ANYONE to protect him. He was expendable, to be used and discarded easily and he knew it. It would be his death if he let himself fall into allowing someone else to protect him because he'd have no way to do it himself when the time came. He had to learn, and he had to learn fast.

Wrapped in his own thoughts he failed to see the faked force behind Dorian's charm as he spoke with the others before moving back towards the shadows the darker figure was hidden in. Only the pale white flesh giving away his presence amid the darker colors of his hair and uniform. He only slowly lifted his head to peer through ink strands when Dorian came to a smiling stop in front of him and thanked him. He couldn't stop the brilliant blossom of his smile from spreading across his face at the words and further at the touch on his dark hair. Desperate to please for a second he was almost like a puppy receiving a rare touch of reward before he schooled the look into his more normal docile acceptance.

His hand lifted and settled in the offered one, obedient to the unspoken command coming from the other boy as he shifted his weight to fall in line with him once more. His gaze sliding to the side to catch the eye of the young woman who had been clinging to the singer earlier. She was watching them closely with a guarded expression Aiden was familiar with. Nothing passed through his midnight orbs as his welcoming smile flashed a touch of teeth and he stepped close enough that his entire side was touching the other boy, his head tipping to briefly let his ink dark hair rest on his shoulders. His gaze not breaking from the girl.

"What do you want me to do?"he asked again in his bedroom voice, lifting the chain and trapping it between his teeth in a playful motion as the girls eyes narrowed. It wasn't usually a game he played except to get what he wanted from a mark, but he couldn't stop himself from sliding his tongue in a motion against the silver colored loops. Her look shifted to something between shocked and aroused before he turned his attention to the brunette to wait his answer. He really wasn't sure what his next step was supposed to be, again lost in rules he didn't understand. He'd give himself today to learn them...and then he'd have to stand on his own and protect himself the best way he knew how. The only way he could be sure he'd remain safe. Promises were like broken glass, sparkling and pretty but sharp and waiting to draw blood.

Dorian raised an eyebrow at Aiden, half a smile that wasn’t sure it wanted to be a smile hovering on his lips. “I told you, it’s not about lust,” Dorian explained, trying to be patient. This wasn’t exactly a subject he wanted to think about. He probably needed to examine the issue rather than simply trying to headbutt his way though it as he had been, but doing so out loud in front of someone who managed to singlehandedly complicate matters was far from an appealing prospect. He ran one of his hands through his hair and then shook it back out, unconsciously trying to comb it back into place. “Having someone isn’t like having their body. You can’t force that.” And frankly he didn’t think forcing someone’s body was applicable to any sane mind but had a feeling that was another point he and Aiden were destined to disagree on. After all, Dorian had found the boy earlier that day looking rather forced, hadn’t he?

He was glad enough when the conversation was forced to an end by his movement away towards the others, putting an end to the rehearsal. Maybe the brief time lapse would give Aiden a couple a minutes to actually think about what he’d said rather than dismissing it out of hand as irrational. It wasn’t a large chance, but it was there and Dorian was willing to take it. He was momentarily distracted from such thoughts by the relief that swept him when no one argued with practice ending.

But better by far was the smile that waited for him when he returned to Aiden. He would have loved to see that expression more often, have it replace the overly sensuous call that normally resided on the full lips. It wasn’t that Dorian didn’t like the normal expression. His body was clearly in approval at the wanton curl of lips and inviting gaze, but it didn’t quite fit, didn’t sit right with the rest of Dorian’s conscious mind. That smile, however, was an entirely different story.

His fingers curled around the hand in his, the feeling increasingly familiar and warm the more he did it. His gaze happened to pass the young woman he’d been dancing with and he inclined his head in a dismissive kind of greeting, his mind not really on her. At least not until Aiden reacted. Dorian watched, intrigued, as Aiden seemed to actually stare her down in his own unique way. A rush of pleasure crept up his chest at the almost defensive move. Defensive on his behalf. Was that possible? Was he reading into things? But… no, there was something in this, he was sure of it. He just wished to god he had a little window into Aiden’s head at that moment.

His hand strayed again to Aiden’s hair, playing with one of the gently wavy locks almost absently. Somewhere in his mind he’d managed to convince himself that touching Aiden’s hair was alright. It wasn’t near any place that might be considered intimate, it wasn’t a kiss or a caress really. It was just contact. He remembered reading somewhere that physical contact built trust much more quickly. And if he was going to look out for the boy, he needed him to trust him. It was completely altruistic.

Right. …

I thought you were going to behave,” Dorian murmured, low enough for only Aiden to hear as he lead them out into the hall, pace slowing again once they were out of the other’s eyesight. But the voice wasn’t that of a reprimand or rebuke. Instead he sounded amused and faintly pleased. The hand not holding Aiden’s lifted a few strands and let them fall back against the pale cheek, again and again in a kind of rhythm. Part of him was waiting for a sign that the boy didn’t like it, but as long as that wasn’t there, he continued.

Aiden had allowed the previous conversation to fade off with the natural break of Dorian having to go talk with the group of people. Most of the reason for this was he couldn't understand what the brunette was trying to imply. It was always about lust and you could force anyone into being had. He'd watched it too many times not to believe that. Sometimes it was done with money, sometimes with gifts, sometimes with brute force...it didn't matter how it was done it was always forced.

And after that he was too busy simply reacting to the almost possessive clench of his chest as the girl had watched Dorian. He'd never been protective over anything other than his earrings before, it was a bit odd to feel it towards a person but when a hand touched his ink-dark hair once more and the pressure in his chest eased he decided it was worth it as his smile unconsciously softened and his midnight blue orbs left the watching girl to lock with the lighter pair next to him. His hair continuing to receive attention as they walked away from the room and towards what he assumed was going to be his 'photo shoot'.

"I am behaving."the dark haired boy purred in his rich bedroom voice, enough promise behind the teasing words to make it very obvious he'd show him what not behaving was. The light touch of approval in the other boy's voice though was enough to bring a touch of the eager to please puppy back to his midnight blue orbs. Proof that he was in more trouble than he realized. Normally desperate for affection and any sign of worth, he could be hurt by people around him. His mother could tear his heart out and grind it into the dust though...his expression said Dorian was well on his way to being able to do so as well.

A faint touch of the desperate hope, something he wasn't even aware of still reaching for, to just once be good enough for someone. He wanted something he couldn't even define because he'd never seen it before, just the dark side of lust. But a trace of the desperation was in the otherwise docile blue. His head remaining on the other boy's shoulder as he held them close and tried not to break the soft petting occurring because it felt better than he'd admit.

And the bright clip of shoes had his head snapping up and midnight blue locking down the hallway as a familiar blonde stalked her way towards them with a resigned but harried expression on her face.

"We do only have a few months till that video has to be released Dorian."Amy pointed out without a pause, like she was speaking from the middle of a conversation. She looked between the two as Aiden instinctively dropped his gaze from what he felt was anger to the floor and his inviting smile spread carefully across his full lips, his hand rising to brush the necklace. Amy huffed a sigh and quickly motioned the pair forward.

"Well hurry, I moved your shoot earlier as soon as I heard. Dorian, you DO remember the conversation we had last year? About fans and BOYS?"she practically begged him to remember about his image as she marched the pair towards the shoot where she could hopefully separate them and get Aiden into position. The dark haired boy began carefully pulling himself away from the brunette as his pimp was talking to him. He was pulling inward as well in reaction to her presence and his demeanor shifted back to the open invitation as Amy started talking about something to do with an award Dorian was supposed to win, paying only partial attention because he understood so little about what she was saying.

Something inside Dorian twisted pleasantly at the message behind the purred response. It very much wanted to pursue that proposed line of thought, find out where the promise in the words might lead to, chase it down. It was an impulse as natural and as difficult to resist as a cat watching a piece of string be dragged across the ground. In both scenarios, pouncing was clearly the proper action and Dorian had a firm, silent conversation with his libido and hormones, sending them both to their respective corners for a time out. But even more dangerous was that light, pleading hopefulness that danced in dark blue eyes. There was so little of him left to say no to that, so much more looking for a yes. That part didn’t want to pounce on the boy, it just wanted to hold him, pull him away from distraction and interruption and find a way to convince him that everything was alright.

His fingers continued to play with the hair as they went, running lightly over it or twisting a few gathered strands of midnight. He twined them through his fingers absently, letting the cool silk slide over his skin. It was a rather hypnotizing feel and at this rate was going to develop into a habit. A more vain part of him wondered how Aiden managed to keep it so smooth.

He looked up when he heard the familiar footfalls, leaving the spell he’d been weaving around himself. His hand fell away, but he didn’t let even a hint of guilt slip onto his face as he turned a smile to Amy. The smile fell away and he rubbed the bridge of his nose. “I know, I know. I’ll rehearse at school, don’t worry.” He’d look like an idiot, dancing alone in the gym or in the courtyard, but what else was he supposed to do? She was technically right to worry about the time it took to perfect a dance and record it. Anything that could go wrong tended to do so and waiting until the last moment would be stupid.

He felt Aiden unwrap from him and already missed the warmth, the light pressure on his shoulder. He could almost see the retreat as the other male returned to his default state. The fading of that sweet, hopeful air washed over the singer in the form of relief and disappointment. At least he could think again, remember exactly what he was supposed to be doing and what he was definitely not. He tugged at his shirt, straightening it as he rolled his neck to work out a small kink that had developed from walking down the hall with his head permanently turned enough to keep Aiden in his sights.

“You worry too much,” he said with distinct casualness, clearly denying that he had been doing anything to violate the agreement that he keep his preferences a secret. Never mind that if he’d been playing with a girl the way he’d been playing with Aiden a moment before, he could have posed for the cover of a cheap romance novel.

Dorian spoke with Amy as they walked, doing his best to pick out what was important while his mind struggled to wander. It had been a while since he’d had quite this much trouble concentrating on his job. At least he could relax a bit when they got to the shoot. Aiden would be the center of attention instead.

Wait. Was that a good thing?

The singer decided he was going to do his best not to interfere unless Aiden looked uncomfortable, said something, or things got out of hand. Of course with rules that vague, Dorian could still do just about anything he wanted. Control. He needed control. He also needed to be there for Aiden, just keep an eye out, not growl at anything that came near him.

They had barely stepped into the room when a man appeared out of nowhere, standing directly in front of Aiden and staring hard at him. He squinted, leaned a bit to one side, squinted again. “Here,” he said, beckoning Aiden further into the light. The room was large, a section draped with a curved background ready for photographs already set up and lit against one wall, matching sets along two of the others, already in use with a couple of models doing their best to display the clothing they were wearing for the camera at different angles. Racks of clothes were scattered here and there, a makeup station was ready to touch up anyone who accidentally sweated under the bright lights or lost an eyelash. There were even people with computers open, adjusting and editing the photos.

Dorian smiled encouragingly at Aiden. The photographer was pacing around them, silver hair pulled back into a loose ponytail that bounced along behind him with every step. He moved like he’d had a few too many cups of coffee, radiating energy and confidence. “Turn, tilt your head… Walk. Back. …yes. Alright, someone get him in makeup. We’re going to try a set and I don’t want the lights shining off him. Get him in something from Armani’s new line, he might have the look we want for this one.”

The dark haired boy couldn't explain the feeling that rose up in his chest at the continued pull of his hair by the gentle fingers of the brunette as he rested his head against his shoulder. He might have been shocked to learn that what he was feeling was a sense of peace, something as foreign to him as love. He almost hated loosing it to the presence of the blonde who owned Dorian, but he knew how the game was to be played in his world and he wasn't going to let him get hurt by his presence near him.

Amy nodded slightly accepting Dorian's promise to practice later although she seemed not at all pleased with his casual brush off of her warning. What exactly it refered to Aiden didn't know but he felt an odd urge to warn the singer against upsetting his pimp. It was a lesson the dark haired boy had learned early but then he wasn't as dominate as Dorian was. So he stayed quiet and watched the patterns in the tile as the three of them walked to a new section of the building while Amy continued to speak in the confusing lingo of the industry. It wasn't until someone directly spoke to him that Aiden seemed to pay attention to the world once more.

His welcoming smile spread across his full lips as the silver haired male tipped his head and looked at him from various angles, used to being sized up Aiden's hand lifted to his earring and his entire frame took up the invitation from his smile as the other male started moving around him with a level of energy that actually had his muscles tensing. Drugs tended to rev someone up to this degree but usually made them unstable and tending towards violence. He'd have to move carefully despite the reassuring smile from Dorian at his side. So the dark haired boy let his docile midnight blue orbs follow the motions around him while some part of him cataloged the rest of the activity going on in the room.

The silver haired male began giving him instructions, which were instantly obeyed in Aiden's particular style. Movement designed to draw the eye and attention to get what he wanted from his marks. Turning up the heat on his usual presence until he practically was radiating sex while he did the few motions he was instructed. Apparently he passed the first inspection because the silver haired male was giving instructions to the hovering female's and one male at his side for Aiden to be put in makeup and other various things.

Almost instantly the group moved forward to surround the dark haired male who kept his smile in place as he was suddenly trapped between them. In natural response he became even more submissive and moved easily with their movements towards a vanity with brilliant lights. He sank into the chair as one of the girls began brushing various things on his face and another started brushing out his hair. The last girl and guy were arguing over a rack of suits in various colors trying to decide what would look best with his hair and completion before settling on a smoky grey pinstripe that was almost black it was so dark and an equally dark blue tie.

He chatted easily with the girl that was bringing out his eyes with a little darkness and enhancing artfully his lips. Being in makeup was a new one for Aiden but he didn't argue and simply tilted his head on her instructions while his hair was spiked up slightly into a more bedroom tousled look than was even normal.

"Can I please keep my jewelry?"Aiden asked in his bedroom voice, his hand lifting to catch an arm that had been heading towards his earrings. His midnight blue eyes soulfully promised the world if he got his request while his fingers slid in a caress along the inside of the girl's wrist. She blinked before a light blush spread on her cheeks and her tongue traced her bottom lip. At her nod his smile widened and he brushed a soft lick to the skin he'd been touching as she shifted back behind him and went back to work on his hair only with more touching. The girl doing his makeup arched one eyebrow but was smiling brilliantly before the pair marched over and collected him to change. His midnight gaze sliding towards Dorian with just a hint of question in them as the clothing was handed his direction. His natural inclination was to simply do as they wanted and change, but he remembered the singer had said he wasn't supposed to do it in front of people. He was waiting on authorization from the dominate male in the room.
