Okay, I'm posting this MSN conversation for the sake of keeping my opponent's arguments in tact exactly as he made them:

Bear says:
No, I get you. It took me a solid second or two to figure out how to counter it.
So, just to be clear, you're circling around my right side?
Kate says:
weren't you hitting ace with the arm closest to him?
*Jace
that's seriously what I was thinking..
Bear says:
As in, you're looking in my direction while strafing to get behind me?
Kate says:
what?
Back up.
Jace is stabbing with his right hand in my last post.
So at your left side, correct?
Bear says:
Right. And I'm striking with my left arm...
Kate says:
So THAT's the side he's ducking under
under your left arm, around your left flank.
Bear says:
See, but my issue is you're ducking UNDER a DOWNWARD strike... you're trying to move on intersecting planes.
Kate says:
well, I'm whipping around theoretically before your strike comes down
he's already crouched so it's just a matter of flanking you.
and my post explains why I believe I would have enough time to do that.
Bear says:
-pause-
Kate says:
not fully crouched, mind you, but generally bent forward
and lower, and yeah.
Bear says:
See, but you said your character had to drop his shoulder before ducking, and my arms are already raised... you're already BELOW my arm, so assuming that our reaction times are equal, that our brains fire at the same speed, than you would be drawing as my blow would be descending. I tried to make it clear that I was reacting the same time you were. Since your arm was pinned to your side, it would be impossible to draw your knife while still in my grip, and as you start to duck, I'm starting my strike.
Kate says:
But the thing is.. you couldn't have started morphing until you realized Jace was out of your grip.
wherein he was already unsheathing.
Bear says:
Right... so as you're wiggling out of my grip, I realize what you're doing, you're ducking & drawing, I'm striking & morphing.
Kate says:
you still have to draw back to strike.
otherwise there'd be no.. force?
Bear says:
No, there would, because you're ducking underneath my arm.
Kate says:
so you're just going to drop your arm??
the, two inches?
there's no power in that..
in order to crush his shoulderblade you would have HAD to draw back first - -striking from a distance of two inches isn't going to do that kind of damage.
er, shoulder, not blade.
Bear says:
hold your arm out in front of you, parrallel to the ground... now imagine someone hunched over infront of you... now think of karate chopping that person in the neck, except now your arm is a ten pound sledgehammer. Does it need to be powerful? And I could still generate power from my hips, turning slightly to strike, but my character's plan was to do this at the moment o the strike, not overcomitting.
And I think it's his clavicle.
Kate says:
I'm sorry, I'm not buying..
even a ten pound sledgehammer is not going to do damage when thrust only two inches or so.
Bear says:
Really? When you're hammering a nail home, you only swing the hammer about an inch or two.

why is this important? I feel that in order for Null have gathered enough force to literally pulverize bone into dust as made clear in his post, he would have had to lift his arm, giving Jace room and time to duck beneath it. If he DIDN'T lift his arm, then there would have been nowhere near enough force to crush his shoulder or send Jace across the arena as he has done in his most recent post.

Tried to work it out on MSN but obviously, that wasn't happening.

and for the record, I've dropped a ten pound sledgehammer onto my toes from two-four inches.. and it hardly even hurt. /:

    Ruling please?/Please advise.
    Thanks.

In further note; her character has already responded to the 'two inch strike' in question, attempting to dodge it.

Also, dropping a sledgehammer is not the same as pushing a sledgehammer down into your toes.

My opponent charged my character, and her response was a thrust kick to the torso. His latest post, the one I have some contention with, is that his character then apparently pushes up off her kick to get airborne. High enough that he comes down with a kick down onto her shoulder.

Possible?

No.

Pushing off of a horizontal kick to flip into a coherent axe kick to the shoulder really doesn't make sense. Not the way it was written in the thread.

Quote:
The incoming thrust of the kick provided him an excellent spring board - a gymnastics horse

Sokoya's kick. ^

See the difference there?

Please edit to make the attack more plausible, Noire.

    Sledgehammer force issue aside, because I still see no difference at that particular distance of acceleration;

My character dodged what *I* thought would have been more of an... eighteen-inch strike, because anything else would have been just illogical. I gave you the benefit of the doubt in my mind, and perhaps I shouldn't have.

The way I see it I'm stuck with two scenarios here since you went ahead and posted without me even though there was still an unresolved issue..

either A) your character dealt a retarded 2-inch blow that would NEVER have shattered Jace's shoulder by any stretch of the imagination, sorry, and I simply dodged the wrong attack and need to write my next post accordingly

or B) your intent is to preserve the original power intended and instead concede to the eighteen+ inch blow which I would have successfully dodged.

Then again, it works to your benefit to claim A so naturally that's going to be your answer right or wrong, ne? I suppose I'll just deal with it and try to respond to the mess that awaits me. I just want the reason for my confusion noted, as frankly, your attack still makes no sense. Whatever.

I had to unexpectedly format my computer so i don't have my tournament profile anymore, would any of the judges be kind enough to send it to me?

Especially, concidering i did a lot of work on my character's ability for this tournament which i lost, along with all my other stuff.

I'm still debating on whether I would or not, but would it be allowable for me to rp my char getting a new power, possibly during a fight, as long as I don't actually use it against my opponent? And for the duration of the tournament, of course.

Just, the middle of a fight is a great way to "discover" a power.

Dunno if they are going to continue the practice this year but last year near the last leg of the tournament there was an opportunity to add onto your abilities. Everyone who made it to like the final eight or so had the opportunity to either add a new weapon/power or enhance a pre-existing weapon/power.

So you might get a chance to implement any "new-found" technique. As far as creating something that you don't use, I think the judges wouldn't mind something like that as long as its just a thought that pops up into your head for later consideration instead of anything that alters your usable profile.

Mmmh... it depends.

If it's a logical extension of a power, I'll vote to allow it. If not, no. Eg, a person who can cast Fireball can possibly get away with casting Fire Shield, but a person who can cast Harm wouldn't be able to MAGICALLY REALIZE HE'S A NECROMANCER ALL ALONG.

Well, it's not a "logical extension of a power", but it's not like, gonna turn her entire fighting style around.

I don't care about people knowing Robyn's abilities; i'm planning on giving her poison through her fangs. Acidic poison, like the kind that melts stuff it touches.

Probably just be a paragraph of "growling really hard/get hit in the mouth, blood/spit touches the floor, floor gets a small hole while steaming, robyn goes "wtf", then fight continues.

And of course, if she bit anyone after that, no poison activation, explained by her knowing she didn't enter the tournament with that ability or whatnot.

You could probably just leave it at acidic bile/spit. Poison wouldn't be the right word for what you're describing and might lead to confusion. /my two cents

Hey, it's the bare minimum amount of time promised.

Where are the scores. Are they here yet? If not then when. Why not now? Now would be good. Let's have them now.

Blah blah blah.
