**Theodore**Tel** Something fell down a deep dark hole and landed with a cold splash inside Tel when Aya asked him, "Has there ever been anything that you were really passionate about?" No, there hasn't been anything like that. Ever. What should he say, "I'm working on it?" Ah, good, never mind. There was no need to answer that apparently. Tel refocused on what Aya was saying.
The explanation was perfectly clear. Luckily it was a concept that Tel could understand because he had observed it in others even if he had never felt it himself. He was reminded of Brian, another old high school buddy, who had been absolutely obsessed with video games. That kid could have told you anything you could ever think to ask about the entire history of video games. The growth of the technology, trends in the art, its subject matter and popularity over time. Any tiny little bit of trivia, this guy knew it.
"Thank you for explaining 'otaku' to me. I had a friend who was like that with video games actually. And please don't apologize for my ignorance. Besides, I've always enjoyed being introduced to new things," Tel thanked Aya. The last was generally true. After his parent's accident he had kind of stepped back from the world just a bit. Besides the social aspect of that, he had stopped keeping up with the news, and let his grades drop at school. He was still generally operating in that mode, but the terrifying flight away from Henry had seemed to snap him out of it slightly. It was as though recognizing that Tel wanted to fight for his life had re-awakened his desire to be engage in his own existence as well. But this was such a new feeling, and old habits die hard; he felt like he was in an awkward limbo of sorts. The gauzy white cocoon of disinterest had protected him for so long; trying to claw through it now was going to be quite the task.
But if luck was with him, this place could be a new start. Thinking back to his performance Tel knew he had done very well, and at least one client had enjoyed it very much. He was still waiting for the Madam's verdict however. Tel wondered if she didn't like him whether she would tell him herself or simply have him escorted off the premises. That would be embarrassing, even if no one saw it. Would poor Aya even get an explanation? Still, that wasn't as bad as when the ringmaster had had to fire a new stage hand who turned out to be a thief. The man had been chased out by three of Deluca's tigers. That one had been a favorite tale for late night drinking sessions among the circus crowd.
Ah memories. The personal demons and angels of the human soul. Best not to get too caught up however; especially if it was at the expense of your dining partner! "So, you are fresh out of Japan then Aya?" Tel asked. Oops. He hadn't particularly wanted to get into the whole "where are you from" line of conversation because it would invariably be turned back on him. Damnation. Oh well, at least he now knew what kind of Asian Aya was. On the other had, the reader could be Korean and just have grown up in Japan; there was no way of knowing really.

Break away from everybody, break away from everything.-= (( I was gone most of the day yesterday so I didn't get to read this thread until this morning. xD Okay, time for the wall of @ signs.
@Mero: Don't worry about it, I'm sure you were just eager to get started. I don't think less of you or anything.
@Nils: I appreciate your help with the rule enforcing, but if it's something to do with the content of the RP itself, then that judgment is ultimately up to me. If there are whips to crack, please let me be the one cracking them. :]
@Myin: Please don't say things to intentionally hurt people. If I were in Mero's shoes and I read what you posted ('I was about to be mean.'), then I would have felt so terrible that I would have just left, especially after the admonishing from Nils beforehand. I appreciate y'all taking things to comments afterwards.
@Grace: I actually did advertise for more Clients before I'd even read this post. xD We think alike. Yeah, I made a note on the application page about it. And there's no problem with there being more than one person with a similar talent. Since the characters all have different personalities, it works out all right, so if a Client is looking for someone of a particular talent but doesn't like the Companion's attitude or something, then there're more choices of boys with the talent that was requested but with different personalities. Since Guilty Pleasures is about offering entertainment and companionship, it works out well that way. Such as Othello is hyper and WHEEE all the time, but Lux is more subdued and introspective.
@Wonderland: I don't think anyone saw you as being rude, dearie. Please don't 'keep your mouth shut'; I like when people talk in OOC and become friends. :]
Okay, the end. xD )) =- If you can't stand the way this place is, take yourself to higher places.

achanceforgrace ((( i'd be willing to try, but i know i'm one of the shorter posters here and don't want anyone to be disappointed with being stuck with me... ))) (((But... I'm stuck with you right now... and I like it! There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with your post lengths to me. @Drakie - No problem. I figured it would be quicker for her to be in the RP if she was told now and wasn't sitting there waiting and THEN told. As for content, I just didn't want her to be disheartened if she didn't know another person had a similar talent. Sometimes, finding out your character has something in common with the design of another character, bums people out. I've actually had people leave RPs when they realized that their person's special ability was the same as another character's ability. Hehehe, doesn't actually bother me a bit. Means they can have some competition between one another, ne?))) ~ ~ ~

Setting his tea down, Aya nodded. "I am. Actually, I've never even left Hokkaido before to be honest." he smiled softly, looking over to Tel. "My parents own an onsen, a hot spring. Thanks to the Madame, they were able to rebuild it after a hellish fire." The young man laughed, finding everything rather ironic. "To be honest... the fire was my fault. I smoke, you see and... well... paper doors and cigarettes REALLY don't mix. Especially when you trip on a rug and don't realize the room is burning down until it's too late to put out the flames by yourself."
Tetsuya was smiling however, as if the memory didn't matter. While he did feel guilty, Aya realized that he was paying off that guilt by working for Madame Usagi. His parents were happy and Aya was finally able to take his first steps toward his own dream of mastering English. Although... mastering it this way was quite unlike anything Tetsuya had ever imagined before. But he had been promised time to work on his own pursuits, which he had found a bit peculiar at first. After all, he didn't have a client so, the way Aya saw it, he had plenty of time to sit in front of a laptop and work away.
"It's always snowy in the winter where I'm from, so I'm rather used to cold temperatures. It'll take some getting used to, I admit." Aya continued, trying to be as personable as possible. Even as he was speaking however, the young man realized that the tea was beginning to have a good effect on him. He was feeling better. Much better than he had been since waking. Then he asked what Tel was, no doubt, dreading. "So, what about you, Tel-san? Where exactly are you from, aside from England, I mean?"

[( Not to be the b***h of the party but I hate when people share a common ability like mine...It makes me really upset since I joined first...>< And Othello personality is so based in his ability that it seems pointless for him to have competition....I feel terrible but it makes me like ubber upset... I really like this Rp so I am not quitting but it makes me sad. ><
I just don't think it's fair that I read through all the profiles and work my abilities around other peoples and I don't get the same respect...I feel really mean right but when I read that he did a lot of the stuff that Othello did I kind of got mucho depressed. I am just dumb, I'll get over it but. Yeah just thought I'd get that out there. I can delete this if it makes people annoyed but....Yeah. )]

((( no wonderland, i understand. i'm miffed too, but i get that it makes for a convenient plot ploy especially given my counter-part's aggressive personality. it's going to be a trick to not let my own pissy-ness about it leak through into what Tel does, because he wouldn't care at all. ))) **Theodore**Tel** "That was very generous of her," Tel murmured when Aya described how Madam Usagi helped his family. He wondered if that assistance was in addition to or on condition of Aya's employment. There was no polite way to ask of course; money matters still carried taboo. It was rather surprising and simultaneously pleasing that Aya could speak so offhandedly about the tragedy he caused. It was not expressed as though he didn't care, which would have been extremely off-putting, but as though everything turned out well and that was all that mattered. Tel briefly wished he could have moved through his own tragedy so brightly, but quickly quashed the thought. It was only right that he grieve for his parents. Besides, Aya may have very well been as stricken as he is now not long ago. Maybe what Tel was viewing now is what the other side of all this looks like.
And here it was. Well what about him? Tel suddenly had an image in his head of those old American western movies where somebody is told to dance and they have to hot foot it to avoid taking a lead bullet in the toe. How could he phrase things in such a way that doesn't encourage lines of questioning he's not currently comfortable with. Tel refused to lie, and he wasn't really ashamed of anything, it was just that he knew that companions were expected to be as elite as their clients, and his background was modest and his turn as a stripper less than couth. Furthermore, the way he arrived here was sure to be somewhat novel, and that lead directly back to his stripping, and Henry.
"Just England, but all over it," Tel began. "Believe it or not, but you're looking at a bonafide circus brat right here. My parents both were performers and I was brought up in the very large and mobile family of the big top. We ranged all over, from Northumberland all the way down to Newquay and everything in between." Here he paused for a bite and a sip as he formulated the next chapter to tell. "Eventually though, I asked that we pick a spot and stick to it. My parents agreed and Blackpool became our home for many years," Tel continued. Here came the hard part, "The summer between my junior and senior year of high school my parents..." All the euphemisms for "died" are craptacular. "... were killed in a car accident. The last two years I've been on my own, doing as well as I can I suppose." And just how did he end up here? "After a bit of that I decided to take my future and fortunes into my own hands and sought out the madam here. As of today I have auditioned and am awaiting her verdict." There, perfect. All true without any mention of stripping or violent sex fiends, or crying about his parents. Rather pleased with himself, Tel took a long drag of his Roibos tea. He hadn't really expected that. In truth, Tetsuya wanted to say he was sorry about Tel's parents... but that seemed too cliche even to him. He didn't want to insult the young man but trying to turn that tragedy into something put on a greeting card. So... he did the first thing that came to mind. "When I was in high school still," Aya began, his gaze focused on his tea. "my best friend was killed in an accident. Granted, it had pretty much been his fault... but that didn't make it any easier to go to his funeral. I remember talking to his parents afterward, and they told me one simple thing." at this, he turned his gaze on Tel, "They would have died in his place if they could have... they told me that he had just received a scholarship to do track in college, and the thought of his entire life being ahead of him... well, it broke their hearts really. I... I'm not saying that your parents would have felt the same way, Tel-san... but I'm sure that they can rest in peace knowing that you're still alive." the half-Japanese man smiled. "And that you're doing the best you can." It wasn't the general, 'I'm sorry for your loss', a comment that Tetsuya himself hated, but it was his own way of showing that he was sorry, without being cliche. For some reason, Aya felt that Tel was still grieving over the incident... a simple tone change had given him the impression. And, to be honest... Tetsuya wanted to tell him just what he felt in that moment. A story about his own life, was really the best way he could do it. After all... Aya never really was good at expressing what he himself felt, at least outside of written words.
"As for your audition," the blond spoke, quickly changing the subject. He didn't want awkward words like that hanging in the air too long, after all. "I hope she accepts you, Tel-san. Really. I have a feeling she will though." he laughed slightly, "I mean, if you put on as good a show as I think you did... since applause kind of woke me up... then you're bound to have a place here."

**Theodore**Tel** Tel's parent's had been killed by a drunk driver. He wasn't in the car when it happened, otherwise he'd probably be dead as well. All the safety technology in the world couldn't have saved them; the crash was that massive. Their car had flipped over, pinned against a pole, and exploded into flames. They had no chance. Tel remembered the police officer at his door explaining everything in a slow monotone voice. That voice had become his voice for a long time. Tel thought that was how one was supposed to speak about tragedy.
The drunk had survived of course. Tel wasn't even really sure what had happened to him. He hadn't attended any of the ensuing trial. Maybe the guy got a fine or a little jail time, or even a lot. Tel didn't care. The justice system had nothing to do with his loss as far as he could tell. In the same way he had never lashed out against drinking either. Drinking and driving yes, that was unforgivable, but just having a drink? Nothing wrong with that. He'd enjoyed a few himself on occasion. Always at home, so there'd be no chance of having to drive later.
"They would have died in his place if they could have..." Tel's chest seized at those words. How many times had he wished it was him instead of them? At least if he died they still would have had each other. What did he have? No one and nothing and no one. "Rest in peace... doing the best you can..." Even if he was ashamed to tell the people here of his stripping and Henry, Tel was always assured of his parents' love. They had been the best parents a soul could ask for in that way. Even giving up the circus for him, they never made him feel as though they were missing out. They had loved him so fully, and he loved them back as much as a child's heart could....
"Audition..." A whiplash out of memory land and back to the present. Tel's purple contact colored eyes snapped back up to Aya's face, he hadn't even realized they had drifted down to stare at the table top. He straightened his small frame which had also slouched in an un-dancer-like way. Aya was proving to be a good man, and Tel truly appreciated his thoughtfulness. His new friend (he was definitely that now) deserved a smile for this. Tel's lips tightened, and the corners of his eyes crinkled, but that was as close as his out of practice face was going to get at the moment. "Thank you Aya," he said, meaning for everything and hoping that that would be translated in his voice. "I would certainly like to continue having lunches with you." Again, the almost smile. ((( yay drakie! and i love our new client! @ nile- i thought he might have already been told about today's audition, we had the waking up from applause convo before right? but i tried not to phrase it like it was new information )))

Returning the smile with a soft one of his own, "If it helps, Tel-san... I'll put in a good word for you. I mean, I think you would fit in quite well from what I've seen of this place so far." Finishing his tea and, strangely, feeling infinitely better, Tetsuya leaned back in his chair, allowing a sort of slouch.
He wanted a cigarette, but decided that smoking indoors was probably not looked upon as good around here, and realized he would have to wait.
"I like having lunch with you. I mean, you didn't pry or pick at me, which I kind of expected... and which would have annoyed me," he flashed a quick smile at that. "And you weren't afraid to answer my questions, which I hope weren't too traumatizing or anything." laughing softly, Aya looked to Tel. "Once, there was this kid in my class, right? Everyone had given him a basic interrogation except me. So when he looked at me and asked if I had a question to ask him, I just kind of nodded and said; 'Did you visit my parent's onsen with your sister last month?'. I mean, I was in junior high... but he blushed so furiously that he never even said a word to me again." Shrugging, Aya's focus was on his tea cup again, lithe fingers twisting the ceramic cup left to right and back and forth as he spoke. "Guess a first impression really is everything, ne? Although... I must look like I just walked out of a meat grinder, with being sick and all, so maybe a physical first impression isn't as important as the mental or spiritual." he shrugged. "Who knows." Tetsuya wanted to draw Tel's thoughts away from his worry over being accepted, and certainly away from the depressing conversation of dead parents. So, once again, a story had been in order, albeit a short one.

(((OOC: Oooo... Lux might actually rival Tetsuya in the knowledge of literature department. I LIKE IT! I can see them either getting along extremely well... or being natural enemies, hehe. @grace - Oh well yeah they had that part of the convo, but I was meaning about Tel's past.
