Cheeva Beruvain

Dangerous Shapeshifter

PostPosted: Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:24 am

The lute gave a loud, discordant twang as the strings snapped free in a shower of sparks. The strings snaked over Des' wrists, pinioning him to the lute.
"Shut...up..." Cheeva stood, hands curled into fists. Around the glade things began to shake and twitch. Tankards and waterskins danced against their straps, swords slowly began to unsheath themselves, the chain that bound Toshi and Inutai twisted like a snake. The bones from their meal of rats gathered together, the skeletons rattling about underfoot.
Cheeva stood over Des, her brown eye gone. Instead it bulged, bright red with blood.
"Shut....up..." she grabbed him by his collar. "K-Kered was...Kered was...Kered was a far better man than you could ever be, you sick, disgusting arse of a man. And..."
Her words cut off with a sob. There was a ringing sound of flesh against flesh as Cheeva slapped Des hard across the face. Then, with a flash, the cat raced back up the tree, out of sight.

As soon as Des spoke, Angela felt the intense ripple of despair that swept out from within Cheeva. She watched as the Cat slapped the red head and raced up the tree.

"That was bloody brilliant, Des." Angela groused. "This is why I hate Celestials. You waltz through eternity doing nothing but searching for ways to amuse yourself and you forget that some people are mere mortals who feel pain and loss. Bloody idiot."

She made quick work of braiding her hair and then leaned back against the tree behind her, turning so her back wasn't against the rough bark. Even though she curled up as comfortably as she could, she didn't close her eyes.

She wished there was something she could say to Cheeva but she already knew any efforts to console the woman would not be appreciated.

This place sucks, she thought.

**

Des was staring forlornly at the broken strings on his lute and rubbing his face. That had hurt!

"What in the nine hells did I do to deserve that?" he wondered aloud. He sighed in frustration. "Women."

"You really weren't expecting that?" Gyp directed at Des. "The power surge, I wasn't expecting, but the slap was rather obvious."

He cast a thoughtful glance at the lute.

"I don't know about any magical repair, but I could repair that the way you'd repair a normal lute, if need be. I don't like seeing things broken." The light Fluff, which he'd lost track of just before Des had spoken, chirped from just behind his head, and he jumped a little. It perched atop his head happily, whistling and humming the lute's previous song.

When his chain decided it wanted to move and snake around, Inutai immediately moved closer to Toshi and tried to make it go still, attempting to grab it. It suddenly went limp when he heard a slapping sound, causing Inutai's ears to lay flat against his head. He'd already decided he didn't like this place. This only confirmed it.

The boy whined slightly. "Can't you all stop fighting and go to sleep?" he piped up, but hid slightly behind Toshi just in case. "I don't see why you can't just all get along. . . ."

Yawning, Inutai hung his head sleepily. Without a word, he laid down next to Toshi. Toshi, feeling this, decided to lay down as well. Sighing slightly, Toshi spoke up, "It seems like it is getting late. Would it not be in your best interest to rest up for what lies ahead?"

"Sleep would be good, I guess." Gyp didn't bother to add he probably wouldn't be able to sleep... He hated trying to when there was so much on his mind. Instead, he gestured at the light Fluff that was curled on his head.

"It'll warn us if anything happens, so I think It can take watch? We can still switch around and take turns if anyone is uncomfortable with that."
PostPosted: Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:16 pm

"I'm good with taking turns. I'll volunteer for the second watch." Sleep would probably elude Basti for some time, since his body was adjusted to going to bed about midnight, which would be in about ten hours. At least back in Konalter it would be ten hours. Basti sighed and wished for one of Isolda's books to read in order to pass the time.

Angela had thought she wouldn't be able to fall asleep against a gnarled tree and surrounded by a pack of weirdos.

She was alseep in a few seconds. The events of the day had exhausted her and before long, she was roaming the dream world with sparkles, bunnies and a choir of orange, singing penguins.

**

Des set aside his lute and laid back right where he was, folding his arms behind his head. His cheek was still stinging from Cheeva's slap. He didn't like any of these people any more than they liked him, to be truthful. Everyone of them lacked courage and motivation. All they could think about was getting home and none spared a single thought for any of the people in this world who were suffering because of the current on goings.

This is why he hated mortals. A bunch whiny, selfish brats too focused on their own pitiful lives to see greater things. And Angela (and possibly Zen) were just Celestials contaminated by mortals. He sighed and closed his eyes.

He tried to never get mixed up with mortals. Trouble was going to come from this, for sure.

It was about an hour before sunrise when Enrion's eyes popped open. He sat up abruptly and the amount of magical energy pouring off him, doused the fire. He stood slowly, his joints seeming stiff--as if he was a puppet being controlled by someone else. He was staring blankly at the tree where Cheeva was sleeping.

Angela had taken the last watch. Everyone else had finally dropped off some time ago and she was sitting against her tree staring up at patches of sky when she felt the sudden outward ripple of magic that began to seep out of Enrion the moment he opened his eyes.

He got to his feet but was moving in an odd stiff manner. And he felt very strange. She got to her feet quietly, tossing a few pebbles to either side, hoping they'd awaken her sleeping companions. Something was definitely not right.

**

Des was in the middle of a really good dream when something hard and cold smacked him in the face. His eyes opened and he immediately sensed something was off. Sitting up, he looked around, still feeling a bit groggy. Enrion was standing on the other side of the fire from him and a few feet away from that was Angela.

What...is going on? he wondered.

The first thing Basti felt was pain. Something small and hard had landed none too gently on his abdomen. This was strange, because his family tended to stay out of his room during the night, so things really ought to stay where they were last placed. The second thing was that it was colder than it should be indoors. Groggily, he sat up and rubbed his eyes. Upon opening them he realized that he had not been having a very bizarre dream; he was, in fact, no longer in Konalter where he should be. He also noticed that Angela and Des were staring at the messenger, who was standing as though he was a marionette with good posture. Cocking his head, Basti threw a questioning glance at Des and Angela, wondering what in Lau's name was going on.

A rock hit Zen in the head--"donk!"
He jumped up, swearing in his language. He didn't realize he had fallen asleep, and straightened his red hair while looking at Des. The other red headed immortal was frustrated, it was written on the guy's face.
Zen had a guess as to why and smiled, only to be gritting his teeth on alert when the Twelve Glowies' messenger woke up as well.
A hand went on his other hand, feeling a couple of the rings on his fingers. He didn't like this one bit.

Cheeva Beruvain

Dangerous Shapeshifter

PostPosted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 9:29 am

Cheeva shook herself awake. She ran through her checklist instinctively. What had woken her? A rustling noise. Where was she? Apparently...up a tree. Where was th noise coming from? Below. Where were her weapons? She patted her body quickly. All at hand but the knife she'd given Zen.
Blinking, Cheeva looked around. Why in the world was she up a tree? She remembered the garbage conversation by the fire and then...Cheeva's eye narrowed. Des. It had something to do with Des.
Cheeva wiped her eye and peered dwn, blinking it to clear the blur. Something was happening below. Zen, Bird-boy and the Midget - at that arse, Des - were gathering around the messenger.
Cheeva tilted her head, trying to get a better look at the man. There was something decidedly odd about him. Her fingers crept to her knives as Enrion's head tilted up.
PostPosted: Thu Jul 02, 2009 10:01 am

Enrion stared up at Cheeva with wide, blank eyes.

"Pawns do not negotiate."

And with that, he held his hands out to Cheeva, letting out a blast of white hot magic that seared the tree branches and struck the left side of Cheeva's body. In a blinding flash of white sparks, Cheeva's left arm was burned away to the shoulder. The fire burned and melted her clothes, leaving fierce burns on the left side of her body and face. Cheeva didn't even have time to move away before the blast hit her. She was knocked from the branches and hit the ground beneath the tree with a heavy thud.

"Oh my God!" Angela gasped in shock when Enrion attacked Cheeva. "Stop!"

She bolted toward them dodging Des as he grabbed for her. "Stay back, fool!" he shouted.

Angela grabbed Enrion's arm but he threw her back with easy.

"Stay out of this, interloper." He held a hand out and Angela was caught by a blast of blue sparks.

"Shhhhit!" Angela hissed as she attempted to scramble away. She didn't make it and the frigid blast struck her right side, sending spears of icy pain through her body. She crumpled into a ball, and squeezed her eyes shut. The pain was almost unbearable and it took every ounce of strength she had to not scream as she lay shivering and unable to move.

Des didn't move immediately. He wasn't stupid enough to interfere yet but he drew his sword as he glared at Enrion. THe man was obviously being controlled by that council and they clearly were very educated onto the weaknesses of their so-called pawns. They couldn't have chosen a worse magic to use on Angela as all Celestials were extremely susceptible to magic cold

Enrion looked back at the fallen Cheeva and said. "You will not die. We still have a purpose for you." He glanced at the others. "will do as we say," he told them. "You were not brought here so you could choose." And with that, his eyes rolled back in his head and he collapsed again, leaving the clearing in complete chaos.

[[ scream Not cool, Angela, not cool XP Just because I was a tiny, weeny bit insubordinate, you go and set me on fire.]]
Cheeva didn't have the chance to scream as the flames engulfed her body. She felt herself - understandably - lose her balance and tumble to the ground.
Her heart raced; she couldn't think. It was hard to breathe, something was blocking the left side of her nose. She tried to open her eye but there was nothing there to open. She was blind. And all around was the sickening smell of burning hair and flesh.
Cheeva groaned breathlessly as she felt the magic flooding out over her body. She tried desperately to stop it but it was no use. Sparks wound down her left side, sinking into the flesh, cauterising the wounds. More drted over her body, knitting together the lesser cuts and scratches from her fall from the tree. She felt the sparks hit the burns and die. Magical fire...there was no way the magic could heal her. But not for want of trying.
She groaned again as she realised her fate - the magic was going to keep draining out of her until she was healed - her own body was going to kill her, even as it tried to save her.
