Yeah, it can be rough, but you can always come in here and complain at us. -nods-
Feel better. heart
Question: has anyone else here bought What to Eat when You're expecting or looked it over? Their pregnancy diet is making me laugh my a** off right now and I'm wondering what planet they're from. No sugar EVER. Only fruits and fruit juice concentrate?! I have to wonder how many women can actually stand that.
I agree with improving diet and cutting down on excess sugar, but to try and completely wipe it out is well...stupid. And I think it's just really unrealistic.

Dirge, I haven't read the book. I didn't even pay much attention to the "What to Eat" section of What to Expect When You're Expecting book. I just have tried to be sensible about what I eat and not go overboard with stuff. Cutting out sugar? Not gonna happen! I like ice cream too much. I just try not to go through a gallon a day. wink

oO -sweat- Um...congrats then...or not, whichever part of you is responding today. Hopefully you're getting prenatal care and not trying to hide this.
Anywho...I usually love icecream but I've discovered that being pregnant, I can not tolerate sweet like I used to and icecream is my favorite thing. If it were possible I'd eat it every day, every meal. I ADORE it.
Now I can't eat more then 3 or 4 bites and it's just too much. crying Baby knows how to eat better then I do! Same goes with soda, more then a couple of sips and it's just too much.
But I felt the same way and thought that if I go out of my way to eat better and not have so much junk I'd be doing good but the diet in that book? Man, it's just impossible for a normal busy person to follow and I'm going to return it because it was a waste of money. It also completely cuts out white flower and some of the recipes in there are ridiculous. Brownies made with whole wheat flour, wheat germ and apple juice concentrate? I've tried substituting apple sauce for sugar in the past out of necessity and it really wasn't the same. I'd rather eat a small real brownie then a whole pan made the other way. BLECH.
I should post the list of things you can't eat from that book. It goes as far as to say no ketchup, no pudding, no whipped toppings, no syrups of any kind [like a drizzle of maple syrup is going to screw the baby up for life?!], no white flour ANYTHING...there was this huge list of all these common foods that almost everyone eats. I read it to Chris today and he just started laughing hysterically: like that's ever going to happen.
So I give What to Eat When You're Expecting two thumbs down. XP
Oh, I have to ask, does anyone know exactly why hotdogs aren't ok. They say it's because they're packed in nitrites but not why they're bad. It gets grouped with prepackaged cold cuts a lot and so I originally thought it was because of the threat of Listeria, but I guess that's not it? I have been craving one like you wouldn't believe. Smothered in ketchup of course. mrgreen
