Earendil poked Lin back, grinning. He wasn't particularly ticklish, but it was good to know that he could still have fun with Lin. "We'll see," he whispered to her, his eyes glinting mischievously.

He saw the way she was watching his father, and he grinned. "Ada's matured," he murmured quietly, making sure that no one else would be able to overhear them. "Honestly, no matter what it is, you'd hardly recognize him from the way he was when you first started visiting. I think the trial of our cousin Lamthanc really opened his eyes, showed him where his attitude could lead."

Ruel smiled warmly at Lore. "I have to say," he admitted with a chuckle, "you have two absolutely adorable children. You are indeed blessed ... both of you."

Luthien giggled. "My husband is finally showing others what I saw in him all along," she said proudly. "I knew it was there. It just took a while to dig out."

Lin smiled happily at the thought that Ruel had finally seen what great person Nara-sissy and her family were. She also had to agree with Luthien, after all there had to be a reason why someone as nice as Luthien loved Ruel so much, just like her mom with her dad.

"Your cousin?" Lin murmured softly.

She thought she knew all of the cousins in the family now.. well true she hadn't seen some of them in forever, but still, she thought she knew all of them.

Lore had not been completley off guard by Ruel's overturns, but then again he remembered the last time they met, at his and Elnara's wedding, and he already knew Ruel was on his way to change.

But this was certainly a wonderful surprise still.

"Thank you, they had been certainly a surprise," Lore chuckled.

Elnara giggled at Luthien. "And he's certainly much more like the brother that I remember growing up with," she confided to her in English, feeling it would be safer that way. "I noticed that he was beginning to change at our wedding already, but this ... this, I have to admit, is quite a surprise, especially considering he was one of my greatest ... shall we say, critics, when I first returned here."

At Garrick's insistence, she put him on the floor to let him crawl around on his own, though she kept a wary eye on him and where he was going.

Earendil coughed. "Perhaps I should tell you about him later ... the rest of the family doesn't like to be reminded of him often."

He paused. "Are you finished eating?" he asked her. "We could head outside, or to the city, or something, and I could tell you what happened."

Ruel smiled warmly at Lore and motioned towards the table. "Come join us," he invited his brother-in-law. "We're finished eating, but we would be more than happy to sit with you and chat while you're eating."

Luthien watched Garrick with a smile on her face. "I understand. He's been the most critical of you even in your absence ... your youngest brothers never really said much, they didn't know enough about you, but my husband ... yes, he didn't care how poorly he talked about you. He's completely changed now ... it's like he's a completely different person."

"The city!" Lin grinned and tried not to squeal.

It had been way too long since she had been to the city in fact, and really Lin was still running on Gaia time to be honest, so she easily forgot about eating at the moment.

"Could we go to the city?"

Taking Elnara's hand, now that her hands were free, but keeping a close eye on Garrick, Lore led her over to chairs were they could keep an eye on Garrick. After all one never knew where he was going to head his little behind to first.

"Thank you, it would be wonderful to catch up."

And so it was that a short while later, Earendil and Lin were found heading out towards the city, just the two of them.

It was a beautiful day - the sun was high in the sky, but it wasn't beating down on them with the intensity of summer ... in fact it was the middle of winter, and it was simply pleasantly warm.

"You know," Earendil commented as they walked, "I honestly had forgotten how little time you've been spending here lately ... I thought you already knew about our cousin Lamthanc."

"Well... I thought I've heard of all your cousins, but I haven't heard of Lamthanc," Lin admitted, "I mean... I've met pretty much all your cousins, or so I thought, well... except for Lothiriel and Pen's daughter of course, I don't know her...."

Lin mused thoughtfully, and in fact most of the news she heard of the family did not come from the Southland but from the Borderlands.

"And really most of what I know about you family that doesn't live here in the city, I hear from Elrohir..."

Earendil set his jaw. "Well, he's from the Southland, but actually none of us knew of him until about six years ago ... or rather, we did, but didn't know his name. He's one of Uncle Riordan's illegitimate children ... he was caught stealing here in the city, and he didn't care. He thought he would get away with not being punished, once Ninako knew who he was ..."

He shook his head sadly. "It was only then that Ada realized that being like Uncle Riordan was not good ... not only in the shame that he brought on the family, but also in attitude in general. Lamthanc was punished to the fullest extent of his law - he lost both of his hands - and Ada finally began to fear for himself. Not that he would resort to stealing ... but ... his hatred for my aunt ... for her family ... for your family ..."

Lin shuddered at the thought of losing her hands, but then again stealing was stupid period. She couldn't imagine anyone who would be stupid enough to, but if they thought blood was good enough.

She never understood that, blood meant nothing unless you had skills, your skills is what brought your family honour and pride.

"So seeing how in a way Riordan did through his son, scared him," Lin mused thoughtfully, "I didn't think anything like that would ever happen, but then again I didn't think anyone was mad enough to actually assume they could get away with it."

"Lamthanc was a fool," Earendil said softly, "just like his father. Both of them are still fools ... I know nothing of the other two, but I hope that I never have to meet them. They are all a dishonour to the Aldrich name ... all of them."

He sighed and ran his fingers through his hair again, trying to smooth it out a bit once more.

Lin put a hand on Earendil's shoulder, "Well, don't write the other two off yet, you haven't met them yet."

And personally if she had done something that stupid with a guy, or if the guy had not married her she would have left him and gone far, far away from him.

"And they didn't ask to have him for a father."
PostPosted: Thu Dec 25, 2008 7:00 pm

"They didn't," Earendil agreed with Lin's comment, "but they're proud of him. Lamthanc's half brother, Emandil, came here to pick him up after his sentence was carried out ... he cursed Ninako and swore vengeance on her, promising to uphold his father's honour ..."

He spit on the road in front of him. "Honour," he snarled. "My uncle has the least honour of anyone I know."

"Both of them? I mean it goes against all sense..."

But then again some people didn'dt have sense she mused thoughtfully, as she had learned the hard way.

"No wonder hearing about Lamthanc would make people upset..."

It was also no wonder why she hadn't heard of the man earlier.
