Z rolled his shoulder a bit to recover from the blow. His eyes narrowed slightly. He had been bested the last time he had tried sparring and he would prefer it didn't happen again. He was much worse with staffs than he was with more common ninja weapons but he hoped he could manage a few hits. Especially against someone as happy as Manuke. Z retconned that thought out of his head as it sounded a bit too judgmental even for him. He lifted his staff, more careful to gauge the weight this time, and went for a powerful swing at Manuke's side.

"You lads fight like dolphin's. Fight like the shinobi you came here to be. Fight like warriors. Be friends after, if you must speak speak only to brag your enemies will not tell you when to strike or tell you that was a good hit." Of course Hamma had meet many a now dead soul who spoke during combat to ease there nerves. Even he did the same from time to time. "Be the men you will be called onto be. You can be friends after class. You never know what will happen on this island. You could be called on to fight even at your age now act like and fight like it." Hamma felt he was repeating himself, but these younger generations didn't show the same fire he saw in Kane and Maya. Even those three youngsters Shinichi talked about showed more fire.

Manuke tried to block the blow, but was too slow to react and the blow his him in the side and swung him to the ground. That was the wake-up call that Manuke needed. Manuke rubbed his shoulder as the smile evaporated from his face. Now it's serious he thought. Hamma's words rang in his ears. Fight like dolphins? Maybe he's right. I'm not thinking.... . Even though he was not good with staffs, Manuke was determined to show that he was strong. He spat on the ground then gritted his teeth. I've gotta beat this guy! . He slowly got up and with his weapon in his hand, he got ready for his next attack.

((It's cool. But you should add the training at the end of your post.))
Z resisted a mean spirited snort at the thought of being friends with Manuke. He realized he was being a bit more person hating than usual. He attributed it to his cold and decided it didn't matter as long as he wasn't saying it out loud. He took Hamma's words to heart and wasted no time on telling Manuke whose turn it was. He raised his staff defensively.

Manuke looked at Z with not a smile, but a glare. He wasn't going to lose his concentration this time. He was very frustrated that he was being mocked by the blacksmith. He rose his staff and quickly thrust it towards Z's side. He took all of his frustration and anger out into his blow, hoping that it would get through. I can't afford to miss this one he thought. He was feeling a kind of rage that he hadn't felt in a long time. His shoulder hurt, but that only made him even more frustrated. I've gotta concentrate...to not fight like a dolphin! He let out a small growl as his staff approached Z.

Z was impressed by Manuke's glare. He was a fan of glaring and this was a good one. He could respect someone who gave a good glare now and again. They were tied now. One hit and no blocks each. He wanted to pull ahead pretty badly. As soon as Manuke attacked Z mustered up his strength and brought the staff into blocking position. The staffs clicked signifying a successful block.

Manuke looked in shock when his attack was unsuccessful. He was about ready to destroy something, but he took a deep breath, though, realizing that getting too angry would only distract him. He watched Z with a still fiery glare, so that when he attacked, he would be ready for him.

Z's expressionless lips ticked into a slight smirk at the shock on Manuke's face. It was very slight but larger than he thought he would allow himself under his current mood. Z took a cleansing breath before he took his next strike. He felt like making a battle cry but those were stupid. Not only did they take away breath that could be useful but it also made you look, and sound, like a complete idiot. He managed to resist the urge as he swung the staff. He went for a lower swing this time, aiming for the legs.

Leaping back from Hamma Kane flashed his first real grin in quite a while, acknowledging and accepted Hamma's advice. A god, huh? Kane didn't feel that godly, but he knew what Hamma meant. He saw it in Shinichi and the other adults of Shimagakure during the war. They forgot themselves and fought passionately, unleashing torrents upon torrents of flame and water and sword mastery and illusions. When they were fighting they barely seemed human but more like destructive entities. Actually, Kane wasn't sure he wanted to be like that. How could one help people when one was slowly becoming so inhuman? His mind was filled with the briefest doubt yet again. The doubt had been constantly flitting through his mind ever since his most recent mission, especially when he hadn't been able to defend himself from Roz and instead had to resort to stalling for time.
Gods... Kane was far too passive to actively step up to that role. He would need some work on that. Feeling like he'd spent a long time thinking he readied his sword again in the same stance. It wouldn't do to experiment before his body committed the most basic one to muscle memory. Remembering the basics of being a ninja -stealth above strength, brain over brawn- he slowly loped over to Hamma again before increasing speed. But not too much since he wouldn't be able to feint otherwise. This time he lunged to Hamma's side before switching hands and bringing his left arm towards Hamma in an upwards slice. It was a new move although not that he thought about it not the best.

Manuke saw the attack coming . He raised his staff to deflect the incoming attack, hoping with all of his power that he would block this hit. C'mon! C'mon C'MON! he thought as sweat beaded on his forehead. He let out a little battle cry out of his frustration and anger towards this guy that he had barely met over some training that had no prize for winning. The staffs met into a successful block!

((You didn't need a roll anyway. Your endurance was higher than my endurance and roll combined. Lol.))
Z quickly took a step back as his attack was blocked. He rolled his eyes at the battle cry. It was like this guy was tailor made to annoy him. He got back into a defensive stance and waited for the oncoming attack that would probably be accompanied by another battle cry.

Ha, ha... well, that had gone well. Kane berated himself lightly as he slowly regained his balance. Well. At least he hadn't fallen outright. His blow had been easily blocked and Kane had been caught off kilter. It was all he could do to maintain his balance, which he did by executing an odd series of successive hops, first on one foot, then the other before finally landing squarely on both feet. His bokken had bumped against his skin multiple times during his attempt, reminding Kane just how unskilled he was. If that had been a real sword, his arms would be full of welts right now. Kane was almost in self-deprecating emo mode again. Only the blinding sun saved him, really.
Readying his sword again, determined to get the basic stance down flat and not try any fancy flower tricks (another one of Hide's old quotes...) Kane approached Hamma swiftly but carefully and again tried to break the man's defence. Well, the good thing about this was that Hamma only maintained a certain degree of defence. As long as he surpassed it he'd be improved from before.
