"Ah, I see," Arthael nodded, smiling again. "Well, that's good. I actually didn't see much of him last time he was here, he was gone by the time we returned from our trip. Still, it will be interesting to see how much he's changed."
"Trust me," Ulrich remarked confidently, "it's a lot."
"What about your twins?" Halmir put in. "The mer twins? Will they be coming again?"
"You harass Feng again and I'll kill you," Arthael deadpanned without looking at Halmir.
Elros chuckled softly. "It sounds like you have quite a bit of fun with the prince, don't you?" he asked her. "Do you receive lessons from him as well when you're down there? Or just from Sir Valdemar?"

Donovan wondered absently if Ryu still felt unsure about Halmir at times. At least there was Arthael to keep the man in line, but sometimes he had to wonder.
"Not on this trip, but they have been around in the last several. It's just that Feng prefers to be with Aliya... or rather Aliya's kids. Ryu likes to talk with Aliya and Feng is let loose on the kids."
"Hmm.... only when we go up on the mountain. He teaches me up there, but I don't normally have enough time to go up there," Lin murmured thinking about it.
She really wished she could have more time going up on there.
"But when I do, he trains me up there."

"Ah," Halmir murmured, his disappointment obvious. "That's too bad."
"No," Arthael replied, "it's for the best. The last thing we need is you causing more trouble again." She smiled at Donovan. "Don't mind him, you know how he gets."
Elros was impressed. "You really are trying to learn everything, aren't you?" he grinned. "You truly are an amazing child, Lin. But tell me - just what are you planning to do with everything that you learn? I can't imagine that our languages would help you at all in your own world, would they?"

Donovan took a sip and nodded, he should know by now how Halmir could get. He had worked with the man on more than one occasion and heard a few stories. Feng being the prime example of those stories at times.
"No, I'm use to it, don't worry," Donovan assured her, "Besides," he pointed out to Halmir, "It's good for Aliya. She gets to spend time with friends and time to herself as well."
Lin had to really think about that, the answer was obvious, but she didn't know why she kept learning the way she did besides that one goal. After all she wasn't the angry little girl who wanted to hit ninjas with a stick anymore. Well, she still did at times, but not as much as she use to.
"Well, I want to travel, Earendil said we could travel together when I'm older. He wants to... sail and see other places to, but at the moment just places around the Four Lands is good enough."

Arthael nodded. "Yes, I think ... sometimes she gets a little forgotten by us here, since she doesn't make it here as often as I know she would like. When the ranch first started up, she was here every single day ... now ... we're lucky to see her once every two weeks or so. And no one from here ever goes over there, except for Aragost."
Elros nodded thoughtfully. "So you're going to travel around our world, then?" he murmured softly. "Do you have any place in particular in mind? Or just ... anywhere and everywhere?"

He wondered if that frustrated Aliya, he knew that she was very much into her work, but she loved her children too. Who knew what would happen once the children grew up too.
"I've heard about Aragost, and it can't be helped she can't be over as much, but maybe as the children grow older she can visit more," Donovan mused.
"I don't, even though I'm told I should think of places I would like to go, but I don't really know. I do know I want to show Earendil snow, because at times it's hard for him to imagine when I talk about it."

"Probably," Arthael agreed. "I know everyone here would like that."
"I think that by summer, when the twins are a bit bigger and the weather's better, she'll be able to go more places," Ulrich offered with a smile. "Though I know she and Amdir were talking about visiting Amdir's parents this summer, so perhaps they'll be heading west instead of just visiting here."
Elros smiled at Lin, and the light in his eyes showed that he had an idea, and one that he thought was either amusing or just plain good.
"Why not take him here?" he suggested. "It would be interesting for all of us. After all, Lord Elrohir is his uncle, I know he would like to see him again, and we do get a lot of snow in the winter. In addition, it's one of the safest places to be during the winter - you won't have to worry about animals, or starving, or freezing - and it would be like an entirely new experience for you as well, since you would be coming across country, rather than through the portal."

"Is that so? Well if there is any time to visit it would be the summer," Donovan murmured.
He hadn't realized it until Ulrich mentioned it, but Amdir's parents probably had never seen Aliya or the children. It had been a good number of years, so it was probably good that they would go and visit.
Lin's eyes lit up at the idea, it was true and this place always did get the most snow. Maybe she could even show him what she meant by making snow things, even though it hadn't occurred to her she might be too old by the time that happens.
"That would be fun! And maybe by the time I'm old enough to travel, Daeron will be here."
Then again chances were he would be here long before she became a teen, at least.

"I guess that's one of the things that I question about having a baby," Arthael murmured. "Will I still be able to do things afterwards? I know not like I do now, but ..."
Ulrich smiled reassuringly. "You won't care, when the time comes," he grinned. "And trust me when I say, you won't mind when Halmir helps you out all the time, too."
Elros looked interested at that little mention. "Daeron?" he questioned. "Prince Daeron? The elder brother?"
He tapped his fingers thoughtfully on the tabletop. "I've heard about him."

Donovan chuckled at that, he couldn't really say much on it seeing as he hadn't been through what Ulrich was through. Not to mention raising the sort of children Kara had, had it's own set of issues.
Lin nodded, "Yup, Daeron was there when I visited last, which was really really really rare, because he's hardly around. He hasn't been around for so long that he doesn't realize he has cousins. So he has to come by here, because he has cousins to visit."

"At any rate," Ulrich smiled, rising to his feet, "we should continue. More people to see, after all. Thank you for the drink, Arthael, and I'll see you later."
He nodded his head to Halmir, then Arthael, then headed back for the door. "Donovan, coming?"
Elros chuckled. "Indeed, that is a long time," he agreed. "Considering that Ahren is already nine years old, and I know that he is not the eldest of the Aldrich grandchildren in this world."

"Yea..." Donovan murmured as he rose from his seat, "Thank you Arthael. I'll see you both later."
With that he followed Ulrich out.
"Well he said he would come here," Lin replied, "But I think it's also because Daeron wants a place to be. He's traveled around for a long time, and he knows what it's like to be one of the kids that come here. Maybe if he comes here then I can bring Nina along... they would both like that."

Ulrich closed the door behind them and started down the hall again.
"So, Elros or Aragost?" he asked Donovan. "They're both equally close, right across the hall from each other on the second floor. The other day shifters are all out on shift, so."
Elros was surprised by that bit of news. "He was taken by the slavers when he was young?" he asked incredulously. "I had no idea that any of the royal family had been taken ..."

He had two choices, leave Aragost for last or deal with the hardest first. It wasn't that Aragost was hard to get along (for the most part), but Donovan wasn't that good at dealing with people who talked just about as less as he did.
"Aragost," he decided.
After all he was going to have to sooner or later, but rather sooner than later.
"Daeron said, that he and his Daddy was going to visit one of the near by city, and they were attacked," Lin explained, "He said they tied him up, but one day they forgot to and he ran... and then tripped over Nara-sissy and Triton somewhere along the way."
She paused and tried to remember what else she had heard.
"I think... that was also the first time Daddy went after slavers.. or slavers went after them. Wish wouldn't tell me that story, she said it was a bit hard to explain."

Ulrich nodded. "Have you spoken with him at all since the first time you met him?" he asked curiously. "Has Lin ... said anything about him?"
Which was his way of finding out whether or not Donovan knew who the man was.
Elros nodded thoughtfully. "I see," he murmured. "I'm glad he got away. I imagine then that this may be what inspired your father to start the ranch, to go after the slavers so aggressively?"
