Just had a thought...how about suggesting new folks try out the Kill Team rules first? Yes, it means some additional rules to learn off the bat, but not that many if you leave out most of the optional Kill Team stuff. The bonus though being that new players can get by with the rules (which can be shared amongst a group of friends), a codex that strikes their fancy, and a handful of models. They can try out different units from the same army that way, as well as play around with paint schemes and the like as they go.

If my friends hadn't suddenly and inexlicably decided to join in the hobby of their own accord, killteam was my master plan to get them to do so.

Because combat patrol is closer to the gameplay of a 'normal' game, I usually recomend that. Kill team seems more dramatic and all that and is probably better suited to people who have been in the hobby and want to try soemthing different.
Though of course kill team will mot likely require less models, so its easier financially.

King Kento Though of course kill team will mot likely require less models, so its easier financially. Plus, if you're like me, you like to dabble in all the miniature lines, and usually killteam is the best way to do so, meaning you have a wide selection of killteams for future-players-to-be to try out.

Maegnis Ra hey gys i wanna start with a tau army what should i buy? Here is your priority list - 1. Fire Warrior Box. 2. Codex. 3. Rulebook.
That's really what you want. You can get the Rulebook later if you paint fast and want more models - the Codex lays out what you might want to get.

FlashbackJon You should also pick up some Gundams. And a bag of Doritos. We're out of 'em.*urp* Back on topic. If I knew the KillTeam rules, I'd probably suggest them too. My only suggestion to new players is: Don't start with Marines of any sort. Every experianced player will have ways of killing them, and you won't know how to fight back YET.

I'd start with Space Marines, they have alot of unitsv for different things. They have cool vehicles too like the Landraider Crusader which has alot of firepower and armor plus it can transport troops. You can even buy a set called the Battle of Macragge which comes with enough Space Marines to play plus Tyrandis if you want that plus a mini Rulebook and Terain figures for likie $45. This is a GREAT deal, because the normal troops for just the marines would be $35 so your saving like $100+. The troops have a large variety of choices from the simple Ultramarines( xp My army choice ) to the Space Wolves. The only downside is that in just about every damn battle your going to be outnumbered. But this is just my opinion sweatdrop .

Space Marines are just the noob vacuum, everyone usually starts as them due to the free pieces in the starter set plus they are simple and they are best all around fighters. I wont say were to start, but Ill say were to stay clear of for your first army: Chaos Eldar Witch hunters Daemon Hunters Dark Eldar
