Ice breaker indeed, though he honestly hadn't meant it that way. Sure her parents were like the ultimate evil that was making his life more difficult with security and the like, but everyone had their own aspirations. No one should be condemned for what their relatives had done. He saw that she was a bit flustered, at his comment or his request though, he couldn't be sure. It certainly would have ticked himself a little if he had been stamped with a name like that, some people just didn't have the common sense to tell one thing from another.

Giving a low chuckle, he replied. "Nah, it's a nice name. People probably just need to be more objective about these things." He inclined his head lightly in thanks and looked around him, spying an empty table top and propped himself up onto it, fingers drumming in his pocket again. "Wow, three degrees huh? I'm sure there's a positive side linked with the name too then. So what are you working on? I'm not much of a biologist, but try me."

And then the conversation was interrupted by the entrance of the doctor herself. Fox gave Jelena a smile and a nod. "Ah doctor, you seem busy. Is now a bad time?" He looked at the gadget propped on her head intriguingly.

James followed behind, and into the office to see Fox. he knew fox, and fox knew him. they had an informal competition from the get go, the security designed by him, and James using his bioware enhancements to crack it.

"We're just fine here. just some minor prep and examinations. Jelena should be fine to handle what you need, Fox."

Her head had tilted and she'd been about to launch into a brief albeit lengthy explanation of her basic thesis when Jelena showed up. Nodding slightly she prepared to make introductions since obviously Fox hadn't met Jelena seeing as he'd called her Dr. Trevale. Of course at the same time Jelly had the same blonde hair Lillia did just different colored eyes. But Jelly knew him... Hmm, she'd leave that one alone.

Lillia waved her hand at Jelena, "Don't mention it, I know you're not yourself these days and I'm sorry I got so sensitive to it. You two can go ahead and work on what you need to, I've got to get the preliminary draft of the first two parts of my thesis done by the end of the month." She shook her head, "Three degrees...why don't I know when to stop?"

But it was said with a chuckle before she turned back to her laptop and began tapping away at the keys again, getting lost in the biological and genetic mutations, alterations, and exploitations of Project Echo.

Fox played his fingertips together when James entered the room behind Jelena. It was always nice to see this monster of a man, biomechs and all. But it was a silent understanding between the two of them that prevented Fox to pick and pry at those fascinating bioware parts, no matter how much he would have wanted to. He and James just didn't click too well.

Back to business then. He slid lightly off the desk and onto his feet, approaching Jelena and giving Lillia a small smile as she turned back to her work. "Have you received news from Michael that we're doing a complete security revamp soon? Should be basic operations but I was thinking of some new ideas, and I need some help with those." A sheepish grin and then a curious look to the half-silver mass to the side. "By the way James, why are you here? If I seem to remember correctly, Ingenuity should be... that way." A point of his finger in a random direction followed by another typical Fox grin.

Another nod to Lillia. "Well if you want me to, I can go over your drafts for you. I did suffer through that as well too." But her attention returned to Fox then. Fox...his name fit. Curious and sly as one and what not. But that was enough of her musings now wasn't it? "No actually...though I"m sure he sent an e-mail out about it, I just haven't checked my inbox lately. Been a tad bit distracted. Though I do know now, now don't I?" Though a raise of an eyebrow. "You think I can help you with your security revamp?"

A slight grin at Fox.

"Yes it is. however, I have undertaken dual projects since Metamorphosis is pretty much simple maintinance. I work here now as well with Jelena in Project Echo. Perhaps sometime I'll introduce you to the new pup back there."

Yes, James being funny. Or attempting to be, since everything was always said in a serious, straight face.

"Yes, you do." A smile followed by a quick run through of the blonde hair with his hand. "As for your help, it's more of an advanced security deal. Michael doesn't feel that the current situation is very... advantageous to us, and he wants all necessary measures to be taken." He brought his hand up and studied the P.A.I.D. wristlet for a moment. "So I was thinking of upgrading a few things to make it harder to bypass the system, and that's where you come in doctor."

And then, he quirked an eyebrow at the other man. "Ah well, don't you seem to get around... Thanks but no thanks, I've never been much of an animal person." New pup? The way James said it made it sound more creepy than cute. Well, it was always better to be safe than sorry. It was never smart to underestimate the Echo projects.

Jelena would of crossed her arms lightly...if she didn't need one to hold her up. But oh a good idea. She let a foot slide till it hit the wall and then she crossed her arms as was needed. There we go, her boot braced on the wall would keep her braced against something and thus no need to hold on with her hands. It would work...well for a little while. But she wasn't going to give off that air of something being wrong with her, damn it.

She tilted her head lightly at Fox. "And do tell...how exactly do you think I fit in with your upgrades for Captain Noris' Fleet? I'm not exactly a mechanical engineering major..."

Fox saw her seemingly inconspicuous move and how she seemed to be positioning herself at an odd angle, but decided not to say anything. No, the smart mouth wouldn't take advantage of the keen observational skills this time. Odd and wondrous things went on behind the scenes of all the projects, and he knew better than to ask. "No, but I assume you're handy in your own ways doctor." He gave her a grin before nodding meaningfully at his wristlet. "I"d like to inquire about the possibility of P.A.I.D. being programmed to its owner's DNA."

"Now DNA is right up my alley, Fox." A look to her own PAID on her wrist, color coded to her project zone and security levels. A little nod as she took on that thinking look that most eccentric scientists got. "Well...I suppose that would be simple enough...encode DNA...or rather I could do direct DNA sampling...PAID tag can take a sample when the security level requests it does so...transfers to a processor..." Oh yes the wheels were turning.

He gave a nod, almost like saying 'I thought so'. He had come to the right person, the doctor was young but she seemed to know what she was doing. There were no doubts how succesful Project Echo had been the last few years under her lead. "Something along those lines. Or if we could somehow have P.A.I.D. keyed to the owner's DNA sequence so that no one else would be able to use it." An unconscious frown as he though too. It wasn't uncommon for the tags to be lost or misplaced. Hell, he'd had to deal with a few of those himself. "It's silly, but in the worst senario, it could prove to be dangerous in the wrong hands."

A little nod. "Understandable...has to be able to code and key in DNA sequence and recognize individuals...check the system for proof of them being authroized via DNA...but also can't be something where it basically becomes a case of identity theft on a horribly personal and catastrophic level." Hm... "You know...I use something for my Echoes that perhaps would help. Takes a DNA sample, processes it and sends the information where it needs to go, all automatically and in intervals. Could change that up some to work in favor of PAID tags. A start you think?"

Lillia knew he wasn't talking about her but she couldn't help but think how some of her own tags and passcodes had ended up missing after she'd gone home. Luckily her PAID hadn't been one of them. Who knew the amount of damage Jacklyn Nickko could cause with one of those. "I hate to interrupt but you need ot make sure it's specifically encoded to just that one person's DNA. Wouldn't want someone with very close to match up...like a parent or sibling. Sneaks and thieves are in all families after all. And it has to be tamper free. Anyone with the right tools and know-how can manipulate DNA. That's what Jelena does, fiddles with genetic coding after all."
PostPosted: Thu Jul 13, 2006 1:27 pm

"Yep, that's why I need some professional advice on this." A little grin to Jelena. "Is it like a regular check on identity? Being for all the personnel in the fleet, I think that might be a bit drastic. Not everyone always has their P.A.I.D. with them, and implementing a system like that could take days. Michael doesn't want to risk that..." His forehead creased a little again as he thought, eyes wandering up to scrutinize her headgear again.

He turned at Lillia's voice and looked at her. "I hadn't taken that into account... But even so, the purpose of using DNA as a base for coding is that it's 100% unique right? Do twins have the same genetic sequence? Because that could be a problem..." Fingers drummed on the desk beside him. "Since the tags are the key to entry into all security levels, I need something that will prevent their abuse. I was thinking of somehow programming nanos to recognize a foreign user's touch on the wristlet and send them a hard electric shock or a similar deterrent. But again, I'm just an engineer."

"Basically an information and bio feed for me to use. Checks chemical levels and what not, DNA structure stability and all thatfancy bioengineering stuff." A little grin at that then a frown. He was right, she often forgot hers. "Identical twins will hae identical DNA sequences." A little tap of her finger against her lips...Lillia had a wonderful point there. Though another look to Fox. "If you rig it to shock or something like that...I wouldn't base it on mere touch or fingerprint identity. Erik often fetches mine for me, being that secure is impractical. Though a shock off of taking a DNA sample and recognizing it as noncompatiable for who it is coded to initially would be acceptable. Who honestly puts on a PAID without thinking about it?"

Then a little shrug. "If you want to do a sampling and process with a information exhance that works with existing scanners and impliments DNA...I can come up with a base chip to put in PAIDs in...oh three days. That short enough?" Three days of constant work, donuts, and coffee.
