Yeah, it doesn't appeal to all gaming tastes, which is fine.

Yeah, the only downside is, everybody seems to be having so much fun with it. Kinda like pokemon. Everybody and their dog apparently loves that series. Me? I found it repetitive and dull. Just not for me.

I enjoyed the first 2 generations of Pokemon games, and I enjoy RPGS in general. I guess I enjoy grinding.

I like the Pokemon games because I love to explore. heart And I really like the different variations of the story, and the myths behind the legendary Pokemon.

Quote: Given the choice - whether to rule a corrupt and failing empire, or to challenge the Fates for another throw, a better throw against one's destiny - what was a king to do? But does one ever truly have a choice? One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate, and thus defy the tyrannous stars.

Quote: All the conflict and the strife throughout history, all the fear and hatred, served but one purpose - to keep my master's Wheel turning. All souls were prisoners, trapped in the pointless round of existence, leading distracted, blunted lives until death returned them - always in ignorance - to the Wheel.

Oh, I know that second quote all too well, and I suspect the first quote is from the same series. I'd love to play the entire Legacy of Kain series someday, but I've only played Soul Reaver 1 and Blood Omen 1. It's a shame the writer who was doing such a great job with the storyline left the company. Granted, the series, from what I've read about Defiance, is conclusive enough.

Yes, both quotes are from Defiance, and the majority of the series is decent. the first game is lackluster, but was good for it's day. Soul Reaver was truly magnificent, and Soul Reaver 2 is my favorite of the seires. Blood Omen 2 played like a**, but still kept the storyline going . . . and Defiance was more than a little repeditive, but did close things up for Raziel nicely.
Kain had a very open ending though . . .

I'm just glad the genre of the first game didn't persist throughout the rest of the series. Soul Reaver 1 was the first one I played (before I even knew there was a series). It was also the first M-Rated game I ever played. I'm dying to play the later games in the series, but I don't have a PS2.
The series just has such a good script. The monologue from Raziel and his conversations with both Kain and the Elder God are incredible.

You really need to read this, my friend. Truly a wonderful piece, and I wish one was done for all the brothers of Raziel.
Also, This site, and this one, and youtube will be of great help if you want to hear more of the stellar voices and inspired script. Those are what pull me in more than anything else.

I firmly hold this series as one of the best of all time. The script is hands-down the best one ever written, full off twists, intelligence, and executed with a cast that is nothing short of phenomenal.

Thanks, those are some good links.
I absolutely agree. When I first started Soul Reaver 1 after trading afriend for it, the atmosphere hit me right away. The foley sounds (screaming and moaning as environmental sounds), music, voice acting, script, setting - just everything.
Sadly, I believe one of the 3 main voice actors died a little while back; it was either Raziel, Kain, or the Elder God. Granted, the Elder God's voice isn't so important any more.
Unfortunately, nobody I tell about this series seems to heed my words. Maybe its the oversaturation of vampire media or lack of press these games garnered.
One of the things I appreciate most about the series is how expertly they execute time travel logic. So many games/books/movies get it wrong or make a mistake here or there, but the Legacy of Kain series does it with perfection.
Another series of games I've heard many tell me is great is the Thief series. Have you ever played one of them?

Yeah, evidently Tony Jay passed in 2006 . . . and the temporal mechanics are truly superb. Even more, I love the metaphor of the 'time stream' describing fate and time as a river, and each person is little more than a pebble when trying to divert the stream in any given direction.
