First off, I would like to tell the world of Gaia that I'm a flute that's only been playing for a year!
These people you guys are talking about, are stupid. How can they whine so much about high notes, when all you need is more support and rolling out the flute a little.....
Well, yeah, I'm new to this guild, I hope we can be friends!! ^^

Of course we can! Another complaint I have about the people in my section... my section leader. She can't do anything that section leaders are supposed to do.
-Sight-Read -Play solos -Actually play during rehearsal
She can do none of these things. She's nice yes, but why is her instrument out of her, locker only when we have band period? (I would know, I share it with her... I get there when the Band Room opens before school, and it's still there. I get there to get my flute before the Band Room closes after school, and it's still there.)

I actually have a really good section leader. She CAN sight read, play solos, and actually does practice during rehearsal. On top of that, she is nice, and actually practices after rehearsal---not like she needs too. Also, I am starting on piccolo, and she helps me sometimes.

I like to think that I'm a good section leader, but 2 of the girls hate me. Thankfully one is graduating this year. The other I hope doesn't continue with band. She's not good, and is sisters with the other girl who hates me. And I really don't want to have to put up with her for another year.

Ah, I'm sorry. I hope they turn out to like you! I want to be a section leader my junior year (I'm a frosh), and then I want to be a drum major my senior! That'd be awesome! =]
Hey, could any of you guys give me any piccolo playing tips? I just started, and I'm trying to do my very best...

Has anyone else noticed anything similar?

I don't play piccolo, I can't say much about that.
Parmesan-Garlic-Cheez-It: Same prob here.
pickle relish: I get jealous of my section leader easily. She doesn't know half her fingerings, and she has 2 solos! *cry* I wanted those solos... even if they are 4 measures long! People in my band think I should do the solos instead. But I'm not alone in this predicament: the current section leader for trumpet was jealous of his section leader last year because of the solo problem too, and now he's mad because he's not getting any solos this year, and his past section leader got a solo in the high school performance.

But I am not jealous. Next year I will be the only piccolo player. So I might get a solo. If not, my best friend, who will be section leader, said she will give me all the hard ones. XD

No matter where you go, who you are, or what you do, you won't like your section leader. Or if you're section leader, people aren't going to like you. Unfortunately that's the way things work. When I was in high school my section leader was ONLY section leader for the sole fact she sucked up to the band director. It bothered me a lot. She didn't care and couldn't play ANY of her solos. Things were a bit different my junior and senior years though.
College band is a completely different story. I'm section leader and I offer the solos to anyone who wants to play them. No one ever wants to, but I figure I'll ask. I've asked 2nd and 3rd chairs repeatedly if they want to play the piccolo part for any song but Clara Grace (2nd chair) starts giggling and goes off in some tangent about how she can't play piccolo. *shrugs* I've been told I'm a good section leader.. There's only one girl in my section who doesn't like me and that's cause I took her cell away cause she was texting during rehersal.

You are the type of section leader I would like to be my senior year. I will be the only piccolo player next year, unless someone else decides to take it up, so I will probably be the only one on piccolo solos. I don't think anyone in the section this year hates me, but that could change in two years when I finally am section leader.

Hmmm. I am a alto player for jazz band. But we have enough altos, so I can't get kicked off flute.

Well, you can play flute outside of your bands... and I don't like my section leader because she's not very good. It's not fair, Tracy Foley should be section leader, she's pretty nice, and she's better than Hannah.

After that is Abby, the only junior, and then me (again, with the vanity, but also truthfulness). Abby will be section leader next year, which is quite fine by me. She is my best friend, and a good player, so I will not begrudge her right as section leader.
