EtsukoNino Abuse. D:
Question~! Does the.... dunno how to say this because I think it's a stupid question but it's been bugging me all day. o____- Does a golden lip plate effect your playing or how much moisture collects in the flute?
This girl who's at the next lowest chair next to me has spent the entire year talking to me about things that make no sense what so ever. Every week she reminds me, "I wish I had a flute with a gold-mouth piece like you so I can sound better!" Every time I'm like, "... Kay... I don't think it really matters if it's gold or silver..." But she ALWAYS insists it does. ALWAYS.
Today she was so proud 'cuz she went out and baught a new flute JUST so she could have a gold lip-plate. It wasn't even a step up model or anything it just had a gold lip-plate... The entire period she was: "I'm so happy I got a flute with a gold mouth-piece, it makes me sound so much better!" and while I was shaking my flute to get the moisture out she was like, "Oh yeah, I just learned that flutes with gold mouth-pieces collect more spit then flutes with silver mouth-pieces."
The other two flutes above me agree that gold-or-silver, it isn't going to magically make you sound/play better the way says it is. We agree it *might* make you sound 'fuller' but no one is really sure. =| The gold lip plate doesn't do anything. It's the gold riser inside of the head joint. The gold lip plate is just for show. I wish I DIDN'T have a gold lip plate, I liked it when I got my newest flute, but I don't like it anymore. When I get a new flute (soon) i'm not going to have any gold in it or on it. I'm going to get a platinum riser instead of gold.

Keltzy Yay!! Flutes!! blaugh I'm happy, the flutes in my band are all either really snooty, or really cool but in a different band. (GRRR, foolish friends, switching to the other band.) It makes me crying But now I am happy!! biggrin So, whaddya want to chat about? Not all the flutes in my band are snooty. Just one. The rest are ok. My bestest buddy and I are both in the flute section. But, sadly, I also play the alto sax. biggrin

Advanced Band is the problem, most of the annoying jerks are there. (Oh no, they'll be in Symphonic next year! Noooo!)

We don't really argue about Section Leaders next year, and it seems unanimous that it's me (because no one else in Symphonic Band who's going back in Symphonic Band wants to do it wink ) . But that's only Symphonic Band, having Advanced Band helping with the decision is... unknown, really. They don't know what a section leader is.

But on of the other flute players is really competitive. She will always try to get the music before our section leader, and demote Auriel and Abby to second part...as if we actually cared. And she complains to her friends when she gets a second part. The flute section would be just perfect without her.

((Yes, if you go to my school, you'll find me saying "I want to be section leader!" every other day.))That reminds me of this one girl who complains about the opposite thing. She's in Advanced Band, and last year we were both in Intermediate. She used to complain how quarter notes and half notes are too hard when the whole band was about to do Do-Re-Mi (from the Sound of Music). She also thinks that the G is too hard when most of us already know high F rolleyes . She held up the whole flute section because she never practiced or anything.

The same flute player I was talking about earlier can't hit high notes either. The two upper classmen and I can hit a high "C"(the highest note on our figering chart), and she has to take down anything below a high "E" because she can't hit it. I think I would be a good section leader as well...but thats up to my director to decide.

and she has her cronies in next year's Symphonic too. but if I'm section leader, I might be able to have some power over them.
"And as the flute section leader, I promise to give those brats you call flute players detention for every piece of crap they've done and played ever since they've shown signs of not even caring." -My Acceptance Speech

It's kinda fun seeing people making funny faces nearly pulling their hair out because of it. Okay, back to the point. I just hate people who don't try, or care, and holds the whole section back because of them. "If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem. Greatness comes with responsibility" -A quote from school today. This is why parts of our section isn't-so-great.
