Earendil pursed his lips thoughtfully. "Well ... yes. Sometimes you have to hit someone, it just can't be helped. But you do have to be careful. Like when Celeb hit Cald - I think he really had to, because if he didn't Cald would never have returned the necklace. And he hit him only once, to make him return what he had stolen, and he didn't hit him very hard. But Cald ... Cald went about it the wrong way. He beat on Celeb when Celeb could not defend himself, and if no one had stopped him, he might have killed him. That might be the kind of crazy people that your mother was talking about."

He was just guessing, but it made sense to him to explain it that way.

"I ... don't know," Earendil replied, his surprise clear in his tone. "I ... you know, I don't know much at all about what your mother does, or the people she's met in your world."

Odd how it was a question like that that made him realize just how little he actually knew about her. Her experiences. Her friends. And just like that, doubt crept into his mind once again. Surely she would want to be with them again ...

Earendil chuckled as Miyuki greeted her mother. "Welcome back," he grinned at Lin, though the light had faded slightly from his eyes. "Time for Miyuki's bath, then?"

He shifted, setting Miyuki on the bed beside him, and sat forward slightly on the bed.

"That's what Kelirahc says," Earendil chuckled, ruffling Miyuki's hair affectionately. "We never did get a chance to really check it out the last time we were here. Too much of a hurry."

He smiled warmly at Lin. "I figured if we're not going to be here as long as we thought, we might as well check out the things we wanted to last time but never really got the chance."

"Then we check on Celeb and Haldia, and then we can go," Earendil nodded. "We can't leave without Haldia, after all." He smiled as Lin ushered Miyuki out of their quarters. "Now you go wash up, and I'll be waiting right here for you when you get back."

When they returned, Earendil made sure that they all had all of their things, and then they headed up on deck to see if they could find Haldia and Celeb.

Haldia was on deck, leaning on the outside rail and looking out at the ocean with a thoughtful expression on her face. She seemed to be waiting for something or someone - at least, that was how it seemed to Earendil.

Haldia was startled from her reverie by Miyuki's arrival, but she didn't mind at all. She turned and smiled at the child, her golden eyes bright in the darkness of the night.

"Good evening, Miyuki," she said warmly. "Well, I was waiting for you and your parents, but also for Celeb. I spoke with him and Arwen, and she is healing him up now."
