About 75% of being better than another player in this game is in having better armor, since there's no level system other than the one that simply lets you take higher-rank quests. The other 25% is familiarity with the game.

The other 25% is familiarity with the game. You can do way more damage than somebody with a lesser weapon and armor, and die a lot less too. My buddy Chase has the best raw hammer in the game and he really focuses on getting great armor skills, but he got ******** up by Rathalos the other day while I bashed it's head in.
