Hey! I have been playing the flute for just over 2 years now through school. I compete with the junior and senior level bands. (WE just finished out regional compeition). I broke my flute and I am really sad. I don't know when I will get it back!

Well, I'd love to talk to anyone! GO WOODWINDS!

I feel your pain. I broke my flute, and the worst part is, my BD says it looks like it would work fine. *pulls hair out* That just adds to the pain of losing my right big toenail. Yea. I dropped a little speaker (aproximately 6 in. by 4 in. and 4 in. thick.) on my foot and it hit my big toe and it was bruised for like two weeks and then I bumped it on a door and it started bleeding, that was like 4 days ago, and now it fell off. Completely. It is so gross. I had to put a band-aid over it cause I couldn't stand to look at it. stressed

*high fives* YEAH!! WOODWINDS OWN!!!

Hi, I"m Gurgle.
I've been playing flute for, *counts* almost four years.
In my few years of playing flute the largest amount of flute I've played with was eight ((my first year evey)) and my smalled number was two ((trying to play over about 9 saxes))
My Flutes name is Lawrence and high notes are my worst enemy.

high notes arent hard. just relax your embochure when you play them and they will pop out. also, hold your flute the right way and try rolling in or out when you try to get your high notes. It may also be your flute. Do you have a student model? If so, your flute is also making it harder for you to play high notes. I just got a new flute (an intermediate model) and the high and low notes come out way eaiser and sound better too. I've been playing flute for 7 years

Ya I have a student model right now, it's also over ten years old and needs new pads because my flute teacher says that it's leaking air, so that doesn't help sweatdrop

well, you may want to look into getting a better flute but DEFINATELY get those pads replaced. My flute teacher told me to send my student model into the shop (before i got my new flute) and I had an eaiser time playing my flute after the pads got replaced. I couldn't get low c out and then when the pads got replaced, it came out eaiser
Ya, as soon as my family has a little more money we will probably go get it done.

I think the shop charged me somewhere from 30 to 50 bucks for that to be done..... I forget since that was half a year ago. Too bad you cant buy real items with gaia gold.....
Wow, that's a crazy low price.

Where I get my flute serviced is this REALLY good place and I think they usually charge about $300 to change the pads. Although the last time he did it, I think he only charged me about $50 because i'm in there so often.

There's this band camp story that my band teachers had told us about a flutest. Well, they had just finished practicing marching, and they were to take a break. well the young flutest set her flute down in the middle of the road. It was her first year in marching band, and she didn't think that a car would come*I bet she was blonde* but anyways. A car came and ran over it long ways. Now it the school they have it hanging on the wall with a sign under it that says, "Do not set your instroments down in the middle of the road...look what happened to the flute"

Today I found out the first chair flute at my school plays one SERIOuSLY screwed up flute. o_o

If you look at it, it bends in two places like a wave and the keys are just... funky. It was amazing. How she managed to play on that thing and make county is beyond me....

That sucks. Who puts their instrument in the middle of the road? Especially when they're not next to them to protect it?!

I wouldn't put my intsrument in the middle of the road. D:

Maybe someone else's... we tried that with someone's tuba.

The car stopped and didn't hit it for some reason. DX

Maybe my enemy's flute. it'd be a mercy killing seeing as she doesn't try anything to improve it's already dead status (it needs serious pad replacement and the keys are lopsided. It's never put in her case, she doesn't know what the purpose of a case is.)

Question~! Does the.... dunno how to say this because I think it's a stupid question but it's been bugging me all day. o____- Does a golden lip plate effect your playing or how much moisture collects in the flute?

This girl who's at the next lowest chair next to me has spent the entire year talking to me about things that make no sense what so ever. Every week she reminds me, "I wish I had a flute with a gold-mouth piece like you so I can sound better!" Every time I'm like, "... Kay... I don't think it really matters if it's gold or silver..." But she ALWAYS insists it does. ALWAYS.

Today she was so proud 'cuz she went out and baught a new flute JUST so she could have a gold lip-plate. It wasn't even a step up model or anything it just had a gold lip-plate... The entire period she was: "I'm so happy I got a flute with a gold mouth-piece, it makes me sound so much better!" and while I was shaking my flute to get the moisture out she was like, "Oh yeah, I just learned that flutes with gold mouth-pieces collect more spit then flutes with silver mouth-pieces."

The other two flutes above me agree that gold-or-silver, it isn't going to magically make you sound/play better the way says it is. We agree it *might* make you sound 'fuller' but no one is really sure. =|

the most i really know or heard about gold and silver and such is that gold gives you a "warmer" sound, whatever that means. otherwise if she ain't that great in the first place, wahts the point.

I am not a happy band geek. When I came home from school on Friday, I was going to practice our contest pieces for our chair test we have next Monday. So I'm looking for Flight of Eagles so I can practice the eighth note intro. I realized that the 3rd chair flute who plays 2nd part took my 1st part and now I only have half the song. She is sooooo lucky that I memorized that page 'cause if I hadn't...well you don't want to know.

Anyways chances are slim, but might anyone have the first page to Flight of Eagles? It would have to be Flute 1 by the way.

My friend Katie has a silver headjoint, and it does give the instrument a better, warmer sound. I'm not sure about gold though. And I'm pretty sure that no matter what kind of mouth piece you have, it's still going to collect the same amount of spit. xDDD Unless the gold reverberates it back off on another flautist or something. >=3 Shwah! That would work well at competitions..

I really think it doesn't matter. Besides, if she's that stupid, then she'd go off buying like, a better looking case or something
