Personality: On stage or in public when he has to be ‘in character’, Dorian Is loud, brash, bold, and flirty. He moves with the confidence of someone who owns the world and could seduce a dragon if he wanted to. He smirks and winks and demands that all eyes be on him, lives off attention and the spotlight. And none of it is a lie. His act works because it’s genuine. It’s just not the entire story.
Not many people see the rest of him, the Dorian who likes to lie in bed and stare at the ceiling just for the pleasure of not having to move. He likes to try to cook, but is utterly hopeless at it and has the fire extinguisher on top of his fridge for a reason. Most of the time his attempts at a meal end with a smoldering wreck in the garbage and a call to the local pizzeria. He’s got a sense of humor and a lazy smile that’s much more pleasant and friendly than the Stage Smirk. He likes bright colors and arguing and rabbits. He likes finding dark clubs where you can’t see people’s faces and dancing however the hell he wants instead of following the exact steps of a choreographer.
He’s also surprisingly serious when it comes to important things, like his career, his family, and Aizen. People who only see him on stage would never suspect he did anything but record and party in the spotlight, but they would be amazed how much actual work goes into looking like you don’t have to try.
History: Dorian was born the son of a wealthy music studio owner and his second wife, a young hippie has-been who had a kind heart but wouldn’t know her a** from a hole in the ground. Despite themselves, they did a decent job raising their son. The boy was a bit spoiled, a bit too used to having his father’s name get him anything he wanted, but he managed not to completely rot, thanks in part to a actually competent set of teachers at the private school he attended from the age of kindergarten up. He didn’t do too badly in school, despite having a rather short attention span, and he was generally allowed to do as he liked.
When he was very young, Dorian began to exhibit promising musical ability. His father heard him singing in his room to the radio and recognized the rough, undeveloped talent. Dorian was thrown headfirst into music lessons, which he resisted at first on general principle but eventually grew to love. His talent on the guitar was passable, the drums never made it past the basics, but the boy could sing with the best of them. There are more than a few excellent vocal artists in the world, but very few had a music studio at their disposal. At fourteen, Dorian shot to the top of the charts.
At first, the critics blamed his fame on his father’s influence, but as the groupies flooded in and the boy’s sound spread, most were forced to admit that even if his father’s influence had opened the door, the young man was justified in keeping the attention of the spotlight. He toured for a while, but things turned south when his father caught him making out with a roadie. A male roadie. The publicist insisted Dorian remain firmly in the closet, afraid of losing too much of their fan base with the scandal.
Which became much trickier once Dorian met Aizen. The self proclaimed leader of the local school’s disciplinary committee was nearly run over by Dorian’s limo. Dorian expected to be able to smooth things over with a few charming words and an offer of a free autograph. Instead he wound up with a large bruise on his cheek that had to be covered with makeup on stage for the next week. He should have instantly hated the dark haired boy.
But he didn’t.
Dorian was surprised as hell to find himself in the same school as Aizen, but secretly pleased as well. His fame and practice working the crowd made him almost instantly popular with the faceless majority of the students, but his favorite people to bother became the disciplinary committee and their blue eyed leader. Afterwards he couldn’t pinpoint the moment he actually fell for Aizen, but Dorian
did fall, and hard. At his manager’s hysterical insistence, he did his best to keep the relationship from leaking out to the press, but it was tricky.
When they were nearly eighteen, Dorian’s manager announced he was going on tour. For six months. She eventually convinced him that it was better to break things off with Aizen before he left. After all, a long distance relationship was much harder to maintain and keep quiet. People would go through his mail if he tried to send letter, snoop his conversations if he tried to call. She told him Aizen’s life would be hell if anyone found out. So…. He broke up with Aizen. He didn’t try to explain more than that he was going on tour. It was hard enough to do without dragging it out for questions or explanations that wouldn’t change anything.
He really did think Aizen would somehow wait for him.
