Kaleb hardly noticed through his reading until Relm ruffled his hair, and at that he looked up and blushed when he realized she had brought him dinner. "Thank you!" he said as she left the room, and then he looked over at the meal again. It was so carefully prepared, perfect for eating while reading, and Kaleb knew he would be thanking her again next time he saw her. There was a lot though. Even though it was delicious, he knew it would be too much food for him to get through all of it.

((Fastforwards to after dinner. "Preparing to FastForward! Fast Forwarding, Sir!"))
At Aiden & Remus' suggestion, Relm finished her own dinner with the family, leaving her friend to eat and read alone in the library. It felt odd, but not for the usual ways. Once she had finished -going so far as to help put the dishes away- the pictomancer returned to the library.
She walked to the second wingback, sitting down & pulling her legs up underneath her. "Find anything useful, Scholar?"

Kaleb looked up when he noticed someone had sat down near him, and he grinned lopsidedly. "Yes, this is a very good book. A lot of what I've read is similar to what I've seen elsewhere, but there are several new points that were worth reading for." He glanced over at the tray, and blushed brightly. He had only been able to finish half of the meal. "Th-thank you so much for dinner, it was wonderful." He said, sheepishly glancing down at his fidgeting paws.

She tried to be interested in the contents of the book; really she did. Relm was simply not cut of a book-studious cloth. Still she smiled at what Kaleb said, seeing the logic of it.
"You're welcome, Scholar." The pictomancer said gently, her eyes taking in the amount he did it and filing it away for a later time. If Remus had his way Kaleb would likely be returning & it would be good to have a better idea of how much the nervous mage actually ate. "I'm glad you liked it. I'm afraid I brought you more, rather than less. Sometimes, it's the small ones that eat the most." She chuckled softly. "You should see how much Shippou eats, and he's barely a foot tall! Now the Bug eating alot I can understand -it exerts enough energy to need the food- but the Treasure Hunter's familiar...?" Relm shook her head in bafflement.

Kaleb smiled nervously. "I-I really did like it, but I've never had much of an appetite..." He said timidly, running his fingers along the edge of the book in much the same way he did when fidgeting around his own tomes. He had been told too often he should eat more so he grew up stronger, but he was already grown up, and he would make himself sick if he tried to eat more than he did. He didn't expect the same line from Relm, but that didn't help his fidgeting.

"I don't eat much either." She looked at his plate again & grinned. "Although a little more than you do, it seems."
Relm chuckled, an action suddenly cut short as she yawned -her hand automatically going to cover it. Surprised, she gave Kaleb a crooked grin as she straightened her beret (clearly she must have unadctivated her SphereGrid at dinner). "Hehe. Guess I'm more sleepy than I thought." A troubled look played across her features, as if she could not decide what to do. "I'm sure you book types can read all night, Scholar, but I need my rest. I, ah, don't want to be a bad hostess..."
She looked almost sheepish. "You're more than welcome to stay here & read if you like. MotherHen said it was okay, I doubt Bookworm would complain. I can show you how to find a spare guest room if you like..."
Relm's eyes widened slightly. It really would not do to have Kaleb spend the night. Not unless Keme was staying the night with her... what would Keme say? What would AearHwesta say? The pictomancer blushed crimson. None of that was about to happen between her & the mage, but that would not stop the lusty angelic kitsu from telling of it like it had. "Um... maybe that would be better another visit."

Relm shouldn't have worried, Kaleb was already blushing and shaking his head at the offer even before she reconsidered her words. "I-I really should get home, I-I w-wouldn't want to impose..." He closed the book quickly and stood up, with the text clutched comfortably in both arms like how he was used to carrying his own books.
"Can I help with dishes?" He asked, glancing over at his half-finished meal on the table. He always felt uncomfortable accepting generous acts without offering something in return.

Relm's sigh of relief was visible. Then she smiled. "Only if you want. But you'll probably have your hands full, borrowing that book."
Swinging her feet down Relm hopped off the chair & pushed the table back into place before picking up the tray. "Are you going to use a portal from here, or would you like me to ask Timex or Eiraceyrn to give you a lift bck to town?"

Kaleb nodded quickly, but then paused as his eyes went wide. "I-I can borrow it?" He asked, looking all hopeful again as he realized what Relm was offering. He held the book even more carefully, glancing down at it as he thought for a second. "I-I don't know if I can portal home from here, but I could always use two portals..." The mage didn't want to trouble anyone for a ride if he could get home on his own, but he would probably end up taking one portal and then walking the rest of the way.

"Of course you can! You're our friend, Scholar!" Relm exclaimed softly as she led the way from the library. Softly, because many of her family would already be finding places to sleep for the night. Not that they were asleep, but often the time between dinner & bedtime was a time for calming activites. Mostly so it was not a hassle to get Theron & Ambar to bed.
"If you can't 'port with one, I'd feel better if one of the ninau's took you. At least partway." Dropping the tray off in the kitchen she turned to face Kaleb again. "They're easy to ride, despite their size. Or perhaps because of it."
Relm paused. "Would you at least like to meet them before you decide?"

"That would be nice," Kaleb said timidly, still holding the book carefully against his chest. If he was going to borrow it, he would be sure to return it in the exact same condition as when it was lent out. Books borrowed from friends were meant to be taken care of like that. "But shouldn't I help clean up first?" He questioned, glancing back over his shoulder and feeling rather guilty about just leaving the tray in the kitchen.

Relm waved her hand dismissively. "Guests don't do dishes." Then she winked with a sharp giggle. "Not on their first visit anyway. I'll see to them in a little bit, if no one gets bored and does it before I get back."
Seeing Kaleb clutch the book Relm frowned slightly. "That won't do. You might need your hands to hold on or cast a spell." Quickly she crossed back to the magic door, reached inside, & pulled out a leather over-the-shoulder old-style pouch -the perfect size for the book. "Here." She said, bringing the bag to Kaleb. "Try this out."

Kaleb blushed, but he didn't protest since it seemed he wouldn't be able to sway her. He would have to think of some way to make it up to her though, guest or not the mage still felt like the dinner and book was an extra special treat.
When Relm pulled out the bag, he slung it over his shoulder and carefully slid the book inside. "Thanks, this is better." He said quietly with a lopsided smile, although now instead of holding onto the book, he held onto the bag's strap. But this way he could use his hands if he needed to, and the book had somewhere safe to be until he returned it.

Grinning that the bag seemed to do the job Relm nodded a short "You're welcome" before leading him out of the house. "The stable's out back, you wouldn't have seen it from the front."
Hopping down the front steps Relm leads the way through the gardens, the white & blue blossoms of the nighttime flowering plants glowing prettily in the softly shimmering light of the stars overhead. From the outside, there seem to be no windows overlooking the garden where there certainly had been in the library.
She ignores the odd, metallic shed on their left. Tonight not being a full moon -how could it be, with Remus in the library?- the door was not locked or bolted though it was shut. The large locks glistened where the light caught them.
Behind the house a small barn stood, brown & grey -weathered but in good condition. Flicking a switch in the wall a door on the barn opened for them & Relm waved Kaleb inside.
The interior was warm & glowed warmly with circular lamps that were currently set to a low output level. Although there were a few more stalls, only two had a name about the door: Timex, and one with paint much more fresh, Eiraceyrn.
A duo of whinnies greeted them and the larger of the two ninau left his stall to n** lightly at Relm's curls & bury her in his blue mane. [Missed you today, Relm. Shopping went well?] She grinned up at the huge equine, the top of her head at 5' still a good half foot or more from his back. "Yes it did. Ran into the Scholar here afterward. Oh! Introductions!" Stroking Timex's white shoulder gently she smiled at Kaleb. "Kaleb, the big guy here is Timex. The slightly smaller fellow hanging around in his stall is Eiracelyn." A nicker of greeting came from the snowflake patterned ninau as he tossed his crimson mane about. "Boys. Meet the Scholar. I mean Kaleb."

Kaleb trailed faithfully behind Relm, fidgeting a bit with the bookbag strap as he followed her through the yard and into the stable. He wasn't sure what he had been expecting, but he was appropriately intimidated by the size of the two Ninau. "P-pleased to meet you," he said to the two after Relm had done introductions, but he couldn't quite keep the trembling out of his voice or still the nervous motion of his hands.
