Sayuri wriggled a little when his hand touched her again, laughing into him as he caught ticklish areas again. If she was honest, she heard his words with a degree of relief. She had been nervous enough preceeding what they had done. She also worried greatly about being a disappointment. As upbeat as she was being about all the new things, in a small way she imagined that she would do something to make him cross with her, as Sabin had become.

She greeted his last sentence with a puzzled wrinkling of her nose. If it was the act itself. She was sure she could apply herself to practice that as she had done her dancing or shamisen. And it would be far more enjoyable! It seemed that he might be talking about something else that she didnt quite understand and so she simply kissed him softly, professing her feelings and finishing with a tiny yawn.

He loved her laugh. He loved ANY woman's laugh, but Sayuri just struck him as the type of person who should be laughing all the time. Even though he'd gone through a very depressive and sad state in his own life, he hated to see others in the same position. But he was liking his current position now - beautiful girl laid beside him in bed.

It seemed a shame that the reality of things constantly loomed over him, with the prison like duplex and the idea that cameras could be placed anywhere.

As Sayuri seemed to be on the fast train to sleep, he kissed her nose softly and continued to stroke her back, as if trying to stroke her into sleep. It would be a short while longer before Oz felt relaxed enough to rest his eyes.

Sayuri tucked herself against Oz, her head resting on him, one hand coming up to curl against her cheek as the combined physical exertion and emotional fairground she had gone through finally took its toll.
Her eyes became too heavy and her breathing even and peaceful as she fell asleep against him, her hair fanned out over his shoulder and her tail falling limp as her body relaxed.

A small box is left outisde of Sayuir's duplex Christmas morning.

On top of it is a card:

Quote:

Mery Christmas, Sayuri.
You may not know the holiday, but I am sure others can inform you.
I thought that perhaps these clothes might be more... appropriate for your new lifestyle.

Inside is a shirt and.... a skirt?

In front of the door of your duplex lies a small gift wrapped in regular paper by a string. There are some words scribbled with ordinary pen, saying:

"Merry Xmas. From Cody"

The gift

It was maybe several hours after Oz had left, and following a bout of guilt induced cleaning around her Duplex, that Sayuri finally opened her door and looked outside. Another balmy day. She held onto the doorframe as she picked the packages up from her doorstep, leaving the door open to let it in the breeze as she carefully flip-flopped back inside and lowered herself onto her bed to look at them.

The shell from the Cody-person - whoever that might be - was pretty. She would put it on display somewhere. The clothes were very strange indeed. She turned over the smaller garment in her hands. She couldnt quite understand the meaning behind the words in Sabin's note, she thought it meant they were good clothes for her? She frowned. What was this thing? Was it like an obi? The other piece was obviously a top, but she didnt know why the owl had that strange word for its eyes.
'Hoo-tah?' she said out loud and giggled at the sound of it. Since Sabin had released her from their bond she wasnt bound to wear his gifts. She wouldnt discard them either, nor would she show anyone the strange present. Their relationship would remain a secret and so would anything attached to it, even to Oz.

Once she'd put the gifts away, Sayuri attended to herself, taking a long hot bath, combing and styling her hair before dressing in a fairly formal kimono and kneeling to practise the shamisen. She felt oddly adrift following her latest encounter with Oz, at a loss to explain the different emotions she felt and strangely itchy within her skin. As her fingers carressed the strings, the plangent notes filling the room, she saw images - watery, flowing images that seemed to soothe her mind and her twitching fish tail. Despite her general innocence and simplicities, she knew that her body was asking something of her. The Lake she supposed. It was time to brave going back there. She hit a wrong note as she did so. Last time..but last time she did not have the neck slits that allowed the breathing underwater. If the squid-man did the same thing. She put the shamisen down, her heart fluttering a little.

'I am going..'

I am not sure where to begin with this entry. I have neglected so much of my common day to day life, this Island takes away that which is familiar. If I was at home. But I can not keep thinking about that. I know I can never go home, and what place would there be for me now? I am so changed. And not just how I look. I know I am allowed to be happy. I know that I do not have to obey others blindly, though I still try to please people when I can. I think that will never go away.

Sometimes I cannot believe all that I have done. And said. I would have been terrified to have even looked at Oz at home. Ashamed that my reputation would have been damaged, that no man would be my Danna. But here..I have had someone as Danna and he set me free. The sky did not fall on me, the gods did not punish me when I spent time with him, when I kissed Oz and liked it.

I'll never be a Geisha though..if not that then what? I am only going to be what I am becoming? I don't even know what that is.

Making a new friend

Cody Archer
Despite the living nightmare he had gone through the last few days, Cody was feeling a little bit more cheerful today
He still hadn't gathered enough courage to sit on his wheelchair and face how handicaped he felt on land, but being underwater all the time in his "flooded" duplex, the discovery of his new speed and improved maneuverability was only a matter of time. It was like he has a living torpedo and there was no way that feeling didn't left a smile on his face

But his private pool didn't have enough room, so he set out to the lake to explore his new limits. And what a discovery! Everything felt much more alive!!!
He didn't know because he never bothered to read the extremely boring explanation the dolphin books gave of their senses, but that sensation was coming from his hearing. Though not able to understand them as ecolocation, he had a pretty good idea of what was surrounding him by the sounds things made. It was like human hearing brought underwater

This completely distracted him from his worries. Cody was so amazed he couldn't help himself to feel at awe with so much richness of sound, both produced underwater and the distorced and amplified ones coming from the surface

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri's tail flicked a little as she approached the Lake side, looking out across the deceptively still water. She twitched at the sleeves of her thin cotton yukata, the hem of it brushing above her flippers. Underneath the yukata she was wearing a shorter under-kimono, if no one seemed to be around she would remove the yukata and swim fully under the water.

She moved down the bank, walking into the shallows, closing her eyes as her flippers gently moved with the slight current of the water. The cold was very welcome and she smiled a little, wading in up to her knees.

Cody Archer
Cody heard something entering he water above him, somewhere close to the shore. It was hard not to notice because a sound of bubbles and an object breaking the water surface was similar to a low thunder to his hears. And there was no such thing as underwater thunder

Curious he made his way towards the surface and scanned the shore line to see who it was. Not someone he had met before, but the way this lady dressed was far more interesting than avoiding someone who seemed still human at this distance

"Hi!"

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri flailed and slipped in the mud when the head popped out of the water. Her head went under the water for a moment, her gills immediately going to work and as she could breathe still, her panic wasnt as bad as when Billy had grabbed her the first time she had come to the Lake.
Her flippers pushed into the mud and she stood again, her hair now in her face and her yukata soaked. She blinked, realising that it wasnt the squid guy, it was a blond boy..she thought he looked pretty young but she wasnt really good at gauging people's ages.
'Hello.' she said, squeezing water from her hair before recovering the hair pin that was bobbing past her on the surface.

Cody Archer
Cody was startled when the woman slipped and her head went underwater. Oh god, please don't let her be scared of him like Gallen. Once was enough
But before his brain could snap out of the confusion and realise that he should help, she resurfaced and stranger still she replied a hello

"Sorry if I scared you"

Cody swimmed closer cautiously, a bit unsure on how to act. Apparently she knew about the islanders, so likely she wouldn't be afraid of him, but then again he didn't want to spooke her like he just did

Sayuri Satoharu
'It okay,' Sayuri said, actually 'bowing' in the water! Her head touched the water and she stood up properly, giggling.
'You make me think it was man who grab me.'
Her tail gently sculled the water as she looked at the boy.
'I am Sayuri.' she said, smiling at Cody.

Cody Archer
"Man!?"

He was a bit surprised in the way she talked, both because of the accent and the not proper english. But luckly it was completely understandable

"I'm Cody"

Now that he was closer he was starting to see she wasn't fully human. The blue on her neck and wait, was that a tail?
He tried to circle around her to have a better look, exposing his not so human shape below the waist as he got quite close

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri drifted some as she lifted her legs from the mud floor of the Lake, gently sculling with her flippers to keep herself in one place as much as possible.
'Hai..yes.' she nodded, noticing that the shape under the water didnt look so much like legs as a sort of tail. Was he something like her?
'He was squid man I think. He pull on leg and say Lake his.' she frowned a little at the memory. She watched him moving around her, her tail giving a flick and showing above the water for a moment.

Cody Archer
"I don't think I met him. And I didn't know the lake belonged to someone"

That worried him a bit. If his house was built with an exit to the lake, how was he supposed to use it if it bellonged to someone else? Maybe he would be forced to pay a tax...
But that thought was lost when he noticed Sayuri's tail. It was blue, black and very yellow. Something that really got his attention

"Whoa, you have a tail too?"

Cody pointed out at it with his webbed grey hand, partially using his tail to support him and raise his upper body above the water, revelaing his flippers and the begining of his white belly
He didn't added the fact that she would possibly have the same fate as him. He had met many of the other islanders who too had tails and none of them were losing their legs like him as far as he knew

Sayuri Satoharu
'It not. I think he just. He has bad mouth, angry head.' she said, trying to explain in her limited English that Billy had been a grade-A a** to her.
She nodded at his question, lowering her feet again and standing so nearly all of her tail that was poking out from the slit in her yukata could be seen. She flicked the fin of the tail, splashing the water a little.
'Oh, you are being fish as well?'

Cody Archer
Bad mouth and angry head? Cody didn't really understood what she meant by that, but he nodded as if he did. Right now his mind was elsewhere

He grabbed the tail and slightly pulled the fin open, fealing it stretch with the movement. He didn't meant any harm by it, he was just curious. And his dolphin curiosity always meant touching stuff

"No. Dolphin"

Cody grabbed the the underwater floor and used his arms to support his weight, exposing his whole back right down to the tip of his dolphin tail. It was clear his whole body was dolphin from the waist down

He wasn't wearing anything, though it didn't meant he hadn't tried to tie one of his t-shirts around his waist. But when it didn't slipped or the knot got loose, it really felt awkward when he tried to swim
So whenever he was in the water he just gave up on clothing. Not like any mermen he saw in the movies had any either

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri would have pulled away if anyone but Oz had done this prior to Cody touching the tail, but he seemed to hold it like it was some interesting toy and he was only a little boy.
'Oh.' she said, when he explained what he was turning into. She vaguely remembered seeing a picture of a dolphin. She moved back a little when he flipped over in the water, backing out of the way of the tail in case he caught her when he changed positions again.
Curiosity overcame her a little though, and before he did pop back right way up again she reached a hand out and pressed her fingers briefly into his tail. It was a peculiar sensation, hard but slightly rubbery to the touch.

Cody Archer
Cody didn't mind Sayuri when she touched his tail. He did the same to her, so it was only fair
But soon he had to submerge his lower body again, not because it was hard to keep it in that position, but because the debris was hurting his hands
There were a couple of questions starting to pop in his head though

"What type of fish are you turning into? Do you like to swim too?"

At least this time he managed to keep his mouth shut about how cool her tail was. He was trying to correct himself on that. Changes weren't good or cool. People could die from them and that wasn't good at all

Sayuri Satoharu
'I not know what fish. No has told me. I dont think anyone know?'
It hadnt really occurred to her to want to know what sort of fish she was turning into. It had been bad enough just knowing that she was becoming a fish.
'I like it a little bit. I have not really swim before coming to Island.' she explained.
'I think it is easier with my feet. But I miss dancing.' Sayuri sighed a little, then looked at Cody as questions occurred to her.
'You are on own?'

Cody Archer
"You can ask the labs. They were the ones who told me"

Cody tried to sit in the best position he could. The tail was flexible and he still had the hip bones to allow such angle, but it just didn't feel confortable on his "upper spine" if he didn't use the arms to counterbalance and relieve the pressure on the vertebrae

"I bet you'll swim great. I can swim really fast now too"

He couldn't help himself to admit he actually liked swimming that fast. It was a great sensation to zoom around in the water
But the mention of feet and dancing brought him back down to a bitter mood. Not that he blamed Sayuri to complain about it, but he felt envious. She could still walk while he didn't even have them anymore!
And the next question didn't help either

"Yeah...."

Sayuri Satoharu
The labs. She guessed that would mean talking to Sabin and she wasnt about to do that.
'I not want to know too bad.' she said, giving a forced smile.
'I think you must swim very fast. I not see Cody come, you pop up like magic fish!' and she giggled before realising that even though he hadnt said much other then a positive answer, his body language said alot more.
'I sorry. It is just I have not seen someone young on Island yet.'
It must have been terrible for him. Not only changing into an animal, but taken away from his mother and father!

Cody Archer
"Magic fish?!" Maybe it was a story or something. Magic was something only little kids believed it

Cody shook his head as saying it was not her fault. Or perhaps to shake those feelings off and show a brave face

"Actually... I never saw anyone of my age too!"

It wasn't really surprising, he came here to get medical treatment after all. But still it felt strange to think he was probably the only kid here. He was surrounded by adults. Yuck!

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri nodded.
'I think I heard story of magic fish when I was lit-tle Maiko, but I do not remember it.' she frowned a little, lifting her feet from the Lake bed again and drifting deeper into the water. She swam a little way, her legs bending and straightening automatically as if she had swum her whole life. She turned, pushing the yukata skirts out of the way where they had floated up and twisted around to her front.
'But you have friend here?' she couldnt quite fathom how anyone could remove a little boy from his family, she had never had a choice in her life but he wasnt Japanese. Nor a Maiko. Did he have no family back where he came from?

Cody Archer
"Pitty. I like stories"

He dived and swam along with her, watching curiously at the elegant way she moved in the water and the yukata flowing around her. Even though he had suffered more changes than Sayuri, his style of swimming was more straight foward

"Not really. I know quite a few other animal-people, but... it's not the same"

He really missed having other kids to play with. And as much as he liked some of the other islanders, it just wasn't the same type of friends. They were all too old..... maybe except Ambrose. They had a lot of fun playing tag the last time

I wonder how he is right now...

Sayuri Satoharu
'Me to. I liked going to see Kabuki play when I was taken by patron.' she let out a sigh, the water rippling away as she did so. She ducked under the water, slowly opening her eyes, her gills working away to filter the oxygen from the liquid around her. She watched the way that Cody's tail moved through the water before breaking the surface again.
'I guess it not. It hard for me too. I do not speak as easy as others. And I get things confused or wrong alot.'

Cody Archer
"Kabuki?"

She was definitly from another country, with so many strange words and the different accent. But that was really neat too. Meeting people from other parts of the world was always interesting, even outside of this stupid island

"I think you talk well. Not really well well, but well enough. I'm not having any problems understanding you"

He suddenly had an idea and did a complete horizontal flip before getting in an upright position

"Hey we could become friends. Then I could help you learn english and you could teach me some of your words!"

Though it wouldn't be the same type of friendship with kids of his age, he would have someone to talk to that would actually be a water dweller like himself. It was perfect

Sayuri Satoharu
'It is story play. Men are play as women, and women play as men. It is Japanese play.'
Sayuri smiled at Cody's words.
'Sankyuu - thank you.' she said, remembering herself in time to add the proper english, even though they sounded so much alike it was difficult not to know the words.
She clapped at his aqua acrobatics;
'Hai,' she said nodding happily.
'I would like that very much.'
She splashed him, turning and flicking water in a mini-wave with her tail.

Cody Archer
"Weird. But sounds fun. You're from Japan? That's really cool"

He was really feeling in a good mood now. The idea of having a friend underwater really cheered him up
He was feeling so hyper he had to show it. Cody dived and with a powerful kick of his tail he tried to propell himself out of the water. It wasn't such a high or beautiful jump as the dolphins, he would still have to practice before doing anything similar, but it was strong enough to get most of his upper body out of the water and create a considerable wave when he splashed back down

Sayuri Satoharu
'It is?'
Sayuri didnt think of where she was born as being something that would be interesting to people. It was just where she came from of course. She looked into the depths when Cody suddenly dived down, and then kicked hurriedly back as he leapt from the water again in a sort of curving jump.
When he landed again he splashed Sayuri considerably!
'Hey!' she giggled, swishing water at him with her hands to splash him back.

Cody Archer
"Yeah! Land of anime and all other cool stuff"

Cody paused for a moment to reply before starting to splash Sayuri back, laughing. His webbed hands pushed a lot more water than when he was a normal kid, so his splashes were quite big. But if he really wanted to soak her completely, he would have used his tail instead

He kept doing this play for some time, until his stomach started to hurt. He was getting hungry

"I nedd to get something to eat"

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri looked quizzical at that word but was pleased that he seemed to think her birth place was a 'cool' one.
'...blurgle,' she said, coughing as she got a mouthful of water as Cody splashed her back. She ducked under the water, her hair floating around her as watched him move around in front of her and then she bobbed up, making a mini-wave as she did so, giggling again.
Sayuri nodded at his words, floating a little, drifting.
'I need rest, not do much swimming but I think I will like it.' she smiled at the dolphin-boy.

Cody Archer
Cody waved at Sayuri as he left. He would had liked to give her his duplex number in case she wanted to stop by for a visit, but to tell the truth he didn't had a clue where he was living. He hadn't had the guts to get himself on his wheelchair and check the front door

Fear of change hurts the love..

Osbourne Caldwell
The Grotesque and the Geisha
06.01.07 - After days of trying to avoid it, the enevitable happens...

Oz's attempts to tidy his mess of a bedroom was hindered by the muscle weakness that still plagued him. There was no point trying to do anything at the gym yet if he could barely stretch a lumpy arm to take duvet sheets off his bed. But none-the-less, the job was done and the sweat and urine soiled sheets lay crumpled in a ball in his laundry 'pile.' Considering his new akward size, sleeping in his bed had become a farce and he'd taken to curling up on the mattress instead, so fresh sheets seemed surplus to requirement. Instead, they became his 'nesting' material.

Several feeble food raids over the past few days meant he had a stock pile of fruit, muffins, and bottled water, all piled against and stuffed into his mini-fridge. He still daren't wander out for real meals, where he might bump into others and inflict fear or repulse.

Today was bath day. He left his duplex door unlocked and slightly ajar, so that should anything happen unexpectedly again, anyone visiting could come and find him. He'd sweeped the broken pieces of the mirror into a corner, but a stray shard still grazed the soles of his feet as he clambered into the bath tub, some water seeping out as he submersed himself.

The new, dark fur floated around his neck and chin, he could feel every strand lightly tugging at his skin as it swayed and moved with the water. It was unnerving, to say the least.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri's tail swished from side to side behind her as she stood at his door, having knocked on it a couple of times and waited an answer. She patted her hair a little, checking for any escaping hairs in her tidied up-do.
Her make-up was pristine as well, her kimono one she'd not worn since arriving on the Island, she looked like the Maiko she had been on arrival. She wasnt sure why she'd dressed up so much, it was mostly because Oz had never seen her like this and she wanted to look her prettiest for him.
There was still no answer, and she rapped on the door again.

Osbourne Caldwell
Amidst the feverish scrubbing as he tried in vain to wash off the darkened grey skin, he heard the knocking and seriously contemplated just what to do. It obviously wasn't Gaius, as he would have announced his presence already...maybe it was Marshall...could he face the penguin-boy after what he'd done.

His physical actions slowed to a snail's pace as thinking took over. He watched the foamy bubbles drift by...his dark skin visible through the water, like some great oily slick in the bath.

"C-come in! I won't be a minute," he shouted from the bathroom, his voice hoarse and rasp from his previous primal screams the other day.

In a last attempt to 'pretty' himself up, he scrubbed at the fur all around his neck and at the thick mop on his head, fingers cautiously running over the embryonic skull crest found in adult male gorillas. Oz lifted himself from the bath in a mighty sploosh of water, and draped himself in the extra large towel he'd asked from the labs.

Sayuri Satoharu
Finally! She was a little worried that he hadnt answered and she hadnt manage to find him around the Village either.
'Oz-san,' she called as she entered, kimono skirts in one hand as she padded in and neatly shut the door behind her. She suddenly remembered last time when she had turned up at his Duplex and had walked in on him showering. A little blush coloured her cheeks, but now she really didnt need to be embarrassed about seeing him naked. Although she still did feel a little warm at the mere thought of it. She heard the sound of water moving around and she moved towards the bathroom.
'Oz-san is okay?'

Osbourne Caldwell
OH s**t! Its Sayuri! Does she know? Oh god, I can't let her see me like THIS!

Oz panicked. He had worried in the very deepest pit of his stomach that she might come to see him, or that he might bump into her. And if she hadn't known about the accident at the work site, how would she react? Could he reall take such repulsion from some so dear to him?

He couldn't take that chance.

"Sayuri?! I'm...I'm so happy...you've come to see me," he said, fumbling for words as much as his towel.

He fidgeted around, as confirmed by all the ruffling sounds of cloth, and engineered himself so that a baggy pair of shorts kept his lower end covered, and his large towel covered all of his torso...including his head.

"I was...just taking a bath, gotta keep clean," he said as he opened the door for her to come in.

Oz looked rather ridiculous, like a poorly made ghost costume. But at least this way, only his darkened legs and feet were on show, and whilst his greatly increased height was noticeable, he crouched to help hide that a bit too.

Sayuri Satoharu
'I had not seen,' she explained, talking to him through the door.
'I worry,' Sayuri put a hand on the bathroom door. She could hear him moving around inside and when he opened the door finally, a small giggle escaped her mouth at how he looked.
'Oz-san look funny.' she said, smiling up at him. She backed away carefully, leaving him room to exit the bathroom and waited for him. She wanted a hug, to be held gently in his arms and feel safe as she always did.

Osbourne Caldwell
With the thick towel obscuring his view, he ruffled greatly at his head and neck to dry his fur, unaware of Sayuri's polite gesture to let him pass from the bathroom. All the while only one thing niggled at his mind - I had not seen. He didn't want her to see him, but how long could he really wear this towel as a veil?

Oz stopped all movement, hanging his head solemnly and leaning down onto his wash basin, feeling it creak under his weight. With a great sigh, his expansive torso heaved with the effort.

"There is something you need to see Sayuri..." he began, his already choppy voice cut up further by his nervousness.

Quickly and abruptly, he removed the towel from his head only, revealing dark skin, thick fur, a flatter and broader nose, and a truly Neanderthal profile with protruding eyebrows and slight sloping brow.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri had by this time noticed the oddly dark colour of Oz's legs. Was he wearing some sort of trousers? She squinted, but then realised she was being rude and so looked up at his face..well his obscured face at any rate.
'What you mean?'
Her voice had become tremulous. What if he was hiding another girl in there? He did seem pretty nervous to her. But no, her fists clenched a little bit. He wouldnt do that again. He knew how she felt about him, and how upset she had been last time.
'See..?' she began before gasping, a hand going over her open mouth, eyes rounded and she stepped back, tripping on her kimono and falling to the floor.
'Oh Oz..' was all she could say.

Osbourne Caldwell
Oz's first and most gut reaction was to just turn away at her first gasp, so he couldn't see the look of horror on her face. He didn't want that haunting his nightmares for the rest of his days. Soon after, he pulled the towel back over his head in a childish gesture and further spoke in his hoarse voice, slightly muffled by the towel.

"I...I...didn't..want you...ugh, I feel like a monster," he said, physically pained as he crouched over, doing nothing for his misproportion.

Sayuri Satoharu
'Oww..' she mumbled, rubbing her tail, and swishing it as she stood again. She hated falling on her tail, but now wasnt the time to dwell on her hurts. Sayuri had hurt him, with her gasp, with her reaction and it hurt her heart that she'd done that. Though, she remembered he hadnt really taken her change too well. He had yet to change himself at that time, was another chasing thought in her mind.
'Come out, I have see..' she said, holding a little pale hand out to him, fingers peeping from under the dyed silk of her kimono sleeve.

Osbourne Caldwell
Oz heard Sayuri mutter an 'ow' and just hoped that she hadn't fallen on any of the few remaining tiny shards of mirror that he had yet to find and remove. She certainly caught his attention, and whilst he was still 'towelled,' it was obvious he was looking right at her.

Her second remark filled him a little more dread, obvious in his sudden tenseness and hesitation. It was a request of his fair lady, but could he oblige? Could he really make her look again? It felt more like a punishment for her than him...

With a heavy sigh and a slight grunt, he removed the towel from his torso entirely, his dark grey skin in stark contrast to not only his pale blue shorts, but to his earring and n****e piercing. The towel, however, remained tenderly grasped in one hand, as if it was his security blanket.

Aside from the new facial features he had already shown, he'd grown considerably in height and a little in width too. A thick patch of fur encircled his neck and dusted his shoulders.

Sayuri Satoharu
She noticed now that he was taller..towering above her in fact. Sayuri felt a little doll-like next to him, but tried not to show her slight panic. Had this been anyone else standing before her, she would most likely have tried to flee..for all the good it would have done her, given the fact she simply could not run anymore.
The grey of his skin was slowly being replaced by a dark hair, scattered over his body, but it looked thick..like a sort of fur over his head, his neck and down onto his shoulders. It was his face that was most changed. She flipped-flopped closer to him, looking up, a frown on her face as she searched his for the Oz she remembered from the last time she saw him.
'Big..' she mumbled, close enough to reach out now, questing fingers pressing onto the hardness of the musculature of his torso. She wanted to..feel his face but it was higher then she could reach.

Osbourne Caldwell
It was the various little things about Oz that might cause alarm. His nostrils now noticably flared when he sighed, since they had become larger with the broadening of his nose. He had two thick movable eye ridges rather than eyebrows scribbled on his forehead. Their only redeeming feature was the extra emotion and expression they now bestowed on Oz's stress-weathered face.

In fact, as a whole, he had started to take on a ragdoll sort of of charm - patchy with fur and misproportioned throughout.

Oz physically flinched at her touch, leaning away from her for a few moments. He wanted to hug her as much as she him, but could his new body be trusted? What was he capable of now?

Before he could think of answers to these questions, his body spoke for him....

"Agghh..." he mumbled, mixed with a very animal-like growl.

His back was hurting again, no doubt from trying to walk upright and straight. He stumbled back to the bath's edge and perched on the rim. At least now he wasn't so tall.

Sayuri Satoharu
The hurt was clear on Sayuri's face as Oz leant away from her touch. Was he afraid that she thought he looked horrible? His appearance was causing her some discomfort, it was true. But she was small, and human underneath the scales and tail, and his was much, much bigger then she now.
When he growled, her heart leapt a little, surprised, shocked at the sound. And then she saw him move, a shambling gait over to the edge of his bath where he rested.
'Oz..' she whispered, and she moved forward again, going to his side.
'Do you have hurt?' she asked gently. She could never ask if he was okay. Nothing could ever be okay when it hurt and did this much to a person.

Osbourne Caldwell
"Its...just my back, it will go away soon...I hope," he replied, forcing a smile and muttering the last part under his breath.

There was bound to be a lot of miscommunication here. Sayuri, in her fragile wiles and devotion to him, and Oz, with his denial of his changes and the fear that she might be totally repulsed. He found it surprising that she came to his side, and moved to embrace her, changing his mind in the last moment.

Instead, a different reflex took over and he gently reach out an inhumanly long hand to her head, running the very tips of his fingers down the soft curves of her face. He was still capable of gentleness, much to his inner delight.

"Very pretty today," he smiled.

Sayuri Satoharu
'I am sorree.' she said, a hand hovering out again to him. But if he pulled away again? Sayuri didnt know whether to touch him once more or not.
Her breath caught in her throat, unintentionally so when he reached out as if he was to embrace her. She didnt want to be afraid of him, of his size. Her eyes closed when he touched her face, leaning into it a little and when he spoke she nodded. She had almost forgotten that she had made the extra effort that day.
'I did for Oz.' she said, looking up at him again.

Osbourne Caldwell
"For me?" he asked, his smile growing wider, fighting against the back ache and the paranoid fear of how he must look trying to smile.

His reaction to his mere reflection was one of self-loathing and un-tethered anger. That poor mirror took the brunt of his rage but nothing else had yet to suffer. What...what if he hurt Sayuri one day? Even by accident? Like...Marshall? That was an accident and he broke his arm...

His inner turmoil clouded his face for just the briefest of moments before he shook it off and attempted to push his worries aside. He should be strong for Sayuri. Thats it...he should be strong for her...for her.

He opened his arm for her, for a hug.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri nodded, trying not to stare at how he looked when he grinned. His eyes were still Oz's, and she looked at them, their warmth.
'Yes. You had not seen me all..this.' she motioned to herself.
When he indicated that he wanted to hold her, she tucked herself against him straight away, her gills moving a little as she buried her face into his body. He smelt a mixture of clean, and something else, his body feeling so strangely hard, yet still warm as ever.

Osbourne Caldwell
Well, at least she hadn't tried to run away or shown any kind of fear or hatred towards him. The ache inside him, the one that had gnawed away at him since his change, the need to be with someone...it disappeared the moment he felt Sayuri in his arms.

Was it her he had needed? Her smell, her sight, her sounds? Or was it just someone?

"You're always pretty to me but you look stunning today," he said, sounding maybe a little more sugary than he had wanted to. The feeling was there but the words weren't.

He hugged her close, holding her in the same way he had always done. Gentle, tender, his way. But the extra muscle could not be ignored.

Sayuri Satoharu
'Love..' she said with a small sigh. He was so..overwhelming to her right now. But she did still feel the same amount of affection for him.
He did feel heavy to her now, the hug was almost like a heavy weight blanket was resting on her body.
Sayuri wasnt well versed in flattery, insincere or otherwise. She was happy that Oz liked how she looked, compliments had been few and far between in her life. Her tail twitched a little. She wondered briefly what else he would want from her. Frankly, anything more then a hug or kisses seemed too much - if ever now. She did not like to think that way though.

Osbourne Caldwell
He eased his hug slowly, not wishing for his grasp of her to be too far away. His hands now only perched at her curves. When he suddenly emitted a deep rumble, known as a vocalisation in the gorilla world, he startled himself more than anything, and looked deeply embarrassed.

"Umm...errr..." he said, fidgeting uncomfortably on the thin rim of the bath.

He stood up and beckoned for Sayuri to follow him into the room, where he could more comfortably sit on his bed. It was also an attempt to get away from what he'd just done. Maybe switching places and subjects...

"I've missed you, how have you been?" he asked awkwardly.

This all felt terribly formal, but Oz's charm was hindered b his subconscious worries over his new form.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri almost giggled, looking away as she did, as the noise both startled and amused her. She followed when he left, moving in the way she had practised in order that she would not fall over when doing the simple task of walking.
There was some little room on his bed, and she perched on it, legs crossed primly under her kimono, a hand tugging on one kimono sleeve. She felt his awkwardness and it made her nervous as she had been the first time she had sat in his room like this.
'I miss you also.' she said.
'I have been ok-ay.'

Osbourne Caldwell
When he was not curled up in a 'nest' on his bed, Oz had found another way to sit that didn't bring him too much discomfort. His legs, whilst the same size as they ever were, seemed small compared to his torso, and sat almost cross-legged, he very much resembled a fuzzy Buddha.

At a time like this, when his mind was far from intact, Oz found it difficult to keep conversation. There was much he could ask her, talk to her about, but he just couldn't summon the words...what was wrong with him? He often physically looked like he was searching the walls and ceiling for words to say.

"Did you go to the Christmas party thing?" he asked with geniune interest, reaching a hand to hers to gently hold.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri shook her head, letting him take her hand and looking at the way her small one nestled into his much larger hand.
'We do not celebrate Chris-ah-mas.' she leant against him, her tail moving and curling over the edge of his bed, the fin part moving a little.
'I went swim. I made friend.' she said, smiling as she remembered the watery play with Cody. It had been nice to meet someone who wasnt complicated.

Osbourne Caldwell
"You don't celebrate Christmas? Aww, you don't know what you're missing! I'll have to show you next year," he said, sounding quite genuinely shocked.

Oz could maybe be forgiven for his attitude concerning holidays, since he'd always grown up with Christmas and assumed a vast portion of anyone he was to meet also celebrated Christmas. But he wasn't reall being sensitive to WHY Sayuri didn't celebrate Christmas, if indeed she had a reason.

Her second statement brought a smile though.

"You went swimming? Great! I'm glad you're not scared of the water anymore," he said, giving her hand a more-than-gentle squeeze.

Sayuri Satoharu
'It is not Japanese holiday.' she said, looking away from him. She didnt know what the big deal was about the holidays that the people on this Island seemed bound to celebrate. After all, except for the fact that she'd met Oz, Hallowe'en hadnt been all that fun. She couldnt imagine that Christmas would be any different.
'I was not scare of water.' Sayuri corrected him.
'It was squid man who I do not like.' she looked back at him, her free hand moving upwards and gently pressed her fingers on his face.

Osbourne Caldwell
Oz was silent for a few moments in response to her cold attitude toward Christmas. He rolled his tongue around his mouth and chewed his lip, finding an awkwardness settling in on that topic.

"Well, you should teach me some Japanese holidays then," he suggested, quite happy to learn.

On the topic of swimming, he could very well understand why Sayuri would be afraid of Billy. He was a spiteful, acidic character, at least the time he'd seen him anyway.

"Yeah, Billy isn't nice at all...but it sounds like you have a swimming partner. You won't need me soon," he teased, leaning down to nuzzle into her neck like he had always done...except he had a lot of fur now.

Sayuri Satoharu
'I did not have much to cele-brate when I was at home.' Sayuri looked uncomfortable, not wanting to think about what she'd given up to become a Maiko. She'd wanted to be a Maiko since she was little because it would make her mother proud of her..it never happened, and she had grown up with a small feeling of missing things.
'Billy?'
So the squid man had a name did he? She would remember it if she ever bumped into him again. Maybe it would help if she could address him properly.
'I always need,' she said quietly, and then she giggled as his fur tickled the sensitive skin of her neck. She turned, tracing the different contours of his face with her fingers, and then kissed him gingerly.

Osbourne Caldwell
The kiss took him by surprise and practically wiped his mind of everything she had just said, and everything he was about to say. The kiss was short-lived though - Oz pulled away quickly, looking quite concerned. He felt like this shouldn't be happening...he felt like a monster...

"Y...you're not frightened?" he asked.

Sayuri Satoharu
It was difficult for Sayuri. Had she proper language skills she would be able to explain to him properly that she was slightly afraid but her affection for him, her love for him would always over ride the fear, and the very, very slight sense of ickiness that she felt. It was the first time seeing him or kissing him after all. She imagined that after a while she would become so used to his appearance that it wouldnt affect her at all.
'I love..' she said. It was the easiest way to explain it all really.

Osbourne Caldwell
Oz felt conflicted. He felt ashamed that he should doubt Sayuri, especially after everything she had gone against to be with him, but at the same time, there was this paranoid fear of losing her to someone else.

But how, and why, had he formed such an attachment to her? Yes, he cared very much for her, he'd never want to see her hurt again and could imagine spending time with her. But was this love? Or was this something he didn't know yet, was this something deeper compelling him to keep his first 'female?'

Either way, he needed her. Heaving a great sigh, with that odd pleasant rumble creeping in again, he gently lifted Sayuri into his lap and held her tenderly.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri quietly watched him. He seemed almost deep in thought, and she waited for him to speak, her tail flicking a little as she sat there.
'Oh..' she squeaked, the word slipping out as he made the very strange noise once again. She let him pick her up - although 'let' wasnt exactly the word. It wasnt as if she could stop him - at all from doing anything.

This time her fingers moved through the fur of his neck ruff, watching the way it moved, wriggling it into the hairs.

Osbourne Caldwell
He'd need to adjust to having hair on his neck now, but another part of him felt very differently to Sayuri's actions...

GROOMING! Grooming grooming grooming! She's grooming me!

And thus began an internal battle in Oz's head, one part of his brain waging war on the other. 'Grooming' wasn't a word in his human vocabulary, but in the forming gorilla vocabulary, it was a big deal. Silverbacks, the alpha male gorilla, was always groomed by the others in his group. It wasn't often that he returned the favour, since he was at the top of the ladder, but Oz was a very inexperience silverback. Should he groom Sayuri?

But...what could he groom? Since she was neatly cirled in his lap, his eyes wandered over her and then settled on her tail. He picked at any stray particles of thread, of dirt, of anything...which might have seemed really odd.

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri moved her fingers slowly through the fur, smiling at the sensation.
'It is funny.' she said.
And then she wiggled her tail, feeling his touch on the scales...what was he doing to it? She looked down at his picking and probing fingers.
'Oz-san..what you do?' she asked.

Osbourne Caldwell
Oz continued to lightly trace his fingers and hands all over her tail and fin, almost oblivious to her question. It had to be clean, it had to be groomed, then she'll never leave me

"Hmm? Oh...I thought...I saw something...on your tail..." he replied in bits, as if the human part of him had realised what he was doing and how silly it was.

Sayuri Satoharu
Her tail responded to his gentle touch, lightly rippling, moving beneath his fingers. It was oddly soothing in a way..and just plain odd in another!
'Oh. There is?' Sayuri twisted to see, but couldnt find anything herself.
'Oz-san, you okay?' she asked, looking at him with concern in her eyes.

Osbourne Caldwell
At the point when Sayuri asked her concerned question, Oz had fallen into the trance of grooming again, going so far as to press his lips to her tail to pick off the imaginary dirt. He looked up at Sayuri, flattened nostrils flaring slightly, eyes wide...WHAT WAS HE DOING!?

Initial reaction was of disgust, parlty of what he was just doing, and partly of what he had just been licking! He sat bolt upright and looked incredibly confused.

"I don't know...I...I don't...think so...I'm not...alright, this can't be alright...." he began in a panic.

Sayuri Satoharu
'What Oz doing?' Sayuri wriggled, extremely uncomfortable now. Why was he doing that to her tail? Was this some new thing that he was trying out - but no. He seemed as confused as she was.
'It okay..' she said, stroking his ruff and trying to speak in a soothing manner about something she was clueless about.
'Maybe this is to do with how look?' she offered, trying to help as best as she could.

Osbourne Caldwell
At Sayuri's suggestion it might have something to do with his recent changes, Oz broke a little more inside. He tucked his arms and hands tightly against his chest, as if he had to restrain his own body!

Could he be trusted? What else might he do? Animals were notorious for humping things, he didn't want to go around doing that to random Islanders! And what about biting? What if he bit Sayuri? Or Gaius? Or Marshall? Or ANYONE! He'd be tranquilised and put to sleep for sure!

Oz tensed up, despite Sayuri's best efforts to calm the beast. He was very much alarmed and distressed now and shuffled about in one spot nervously, emitting a disturbing whimpering sound. The human in him was scared, frightened, angry...the animal was simply fuelling these.

"I don't...don't feel...safe...well!...I don't feel well."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri didnt know what to do. She'd never really had to cope with a crisis..hadnt learned really how to comfort someone in distress. Then again, she knew what made her feel better.
'Oz-san,' she gently tugged on his arm, trying to get him to relax them.
'You are okay. I know it is scary being..animal.' her gills fluttered a little, her own breathing and heart quickening in a bit of her own panic at Oz's state.
'Please. Don't be sad..'

Osbourne Caldwell
Sayuri's touch barely penetrated the thick panic that had engulfed Oz. Aside from fighting back the sting of tears (a man like him shouldn't cry, not about anything!), he battled to keep his body under control. He patted his bulky arms and his thick head in frustration, like a chimp in a temper tantrum. But you could physically see him try to prevent the shudders and trembling. Had the shock of his change finally set in? Had it hit harder because he was no longer dazed?

He breathed heavily and quickly, looking at Sayuri with pained eyes and then looking away, and then returning to her form. He placed a heavy hand atop hers on his arm. Then leaned down to kiss her. Aside from a slight change in facial structure, he hoped his kisses were the same.

"Let me take you home," he said, still obviously upset.

He wanted Sayuri out because he didn't want to hurt her. He should be strong for her, he should protect her, but what if he didn't? What if he turned on her? He didn't even know what he was turning into!

Sayuri Satoharu
'Oz..' she said, her worry obvious. She tried to pat his arms, to hug him but it was difficult as he kept moving. She was pleased, a little relieved when he leant in to kiss her and she responded in kind, but then when he pulled away and said those words.
'No..' she said, looking surprised at herself for saying the word. She didnt want to leave him when he was obviously upset!
'Oz please. I want to make happy. Please let me make you happy.' she spoke as firmly as she could, year old habits making her feel as though she should obey his words implicitly because that was what she did.

Osbourne Caldwell
Hyper-ventilating to a worrying degree, he tried to slow down his breathing. He tried to focus, focus on Sayuri. Yeah, thats right. He could focus on her. On her. He kissed her again, multiple times, but they were hurried kisses.

"You do make me happy," he tried to explain.

Once again burdening the poor mermaid with his weight, he enveloped her in a hug, holding her tenderly. Oz's supposed strength seemed to have left him now. He didn't feel dependable, he didn't feel strong. He didn't feel safe.

"But I want you to be safe...I don't want to hurt you..."

Sayuri Satoharu
Sayuri felt confused, worried. There was no wordly experience that could have really prepared her for a lover that was turning into a ..something.
'You would not. I have - trust.' she said, reaching up, moving against the weight of him. Her fingers tangled into his fur and she stroked it, trying to calm him.
'Lay..' she said, nudging him a little. If they just lay together, maybe he would relax some.

Osbourne Caldwell
Just when it began to look like Oz was calming down, Sayuri's heartfelt attempt to calm him backfired. He felt the hairs on his neck tug and twist as she petted him, and he yanked himself from her away abruptly, sliding off the bed and into a wall.

"Don't touch me! Don't touch me..." he practically yelped like an injured dog.

Irrational thoughts had gripped Oz now. He felt so unsure of himself that he feared one touch could trigger anything in him. A bite. A scratch. A smack. A punch. He didn't want Sayuri to go through that, but how could he explain? She just wanted to make sure he was okay.

Sayuri Satoharu
The sudden loss of his weight on the bed caused her to be flipped off and she landed heavily on her knees by it, her eyes tearing up.
'I go..' she said, her voice speaking of the injured hurt she felt. Sayuri slowly and carefully picked herself up, using the bed as got back onto her flippers.
'I do not know what to do. I only know I love Oz. But I do not think I can help.' she turned towards his door, and walked on heavy steps to it.

You know it's a bad sign when you wake up somewhere you distinctly did not go to sleep. All your things are there, although rearranged.... but it is not the duplex that you went to sleep in. It might not have been that obvious, after all, most of the duplexes are identical on the inside.

This one is very similar... except for the startling exception that half of it is filled with water. the floor slopes down into the lake and forms a massive "swimming pool". There is a dry portion with a couch, closet, bookshelves, and facilities, as well as a wheelchair (just in case). The aquatic section has a door that opens out into the rest of the lake.

And there is a swollen, itchy lump on the back of your arm.

Your torso aches... your fish-tail aches, and your throat feels so strange... and then it hits you. The changes begin to wash over you - makig you feel almost disconnected from your body if it weren't for the severe pain. Your fishy parts swell and lengthen, your lower abdomen completely joining with it and reshaping uniformly with the tang-shape, and any plumbing becomes much more fish-like. A webbing stretches between your fingers, and your ears lengthen and take on more of the blue scales... and then, as if a razor was sliced along your neck, three gills open up along each side of your throat - the gaps reaching clear through to your esophogas, the tiny blood vessels swelling and converting to be able to filter oxygen out of water.

Finally, the changes abate, leaving you outfitted for a very different lifestyle.

Sayuri opened her eyes slowly, blinded for a moment, blinking hard as her eyes adjusted to the lights above. She was sure she had turned her lights off last night, just before she went to bed. At first the difference in in location didnt register; same dull ceiling and wall colour. Same style of bed. She sat up, swinging her legs around, careful as ever of her tail. She looked around her, a hand coming up to the arm that itched, pulling up her kimono sleeve and twisting her arm, just managing to catch a glimpse of the reddened bump.
Her whole body ached and she shook a little, fear and recognition of how she felt making her scared. Standing a moment she looked around the unfamiliar surroundings, staring hard at the water lapping at the slope that lead out from the Duplex into the Lake..then at the odd wheeled chair.
'Please..no..' she whispered, her legs unable to support her as the pain slowly worsened.
'Oz..' she cried from the floor. She even called Sabin's name, adding the few curses that she knew after it. Tears flowed, running down her face and then she screamed, an unearthly noise, the sound hurting her ears as once more her body slowly changed, the moving anatomy accompanied by such pain that she had never suffered previously in her life, the prior changes had been nothing to this.

She wept the entire time, a writhing heap on the floor, hair tangled and loose as her tail swelled, becoming lengthier, more solid, stronger. Vicious, twisting pains as her belly became one with her tail and inside her 'things' re-arranged and she whipped her head to one side as her stomach heaved its contents out. She rolled away from the mess, opening her eyes briefly, staring unseeing at the ceiling, before crying out.

It wasnt over, a stinging and itching grew beneath her fingers, and webbing grew, attaching each finger to the other with a thin, elastic like flap of skin. She would know, see until much later what exactly was hurting her hands but she would see later. Amongst that, her legs became a little feebler, a little smaller and her feet could not longer be called that, would no longer support her.
Her ears..a part of her she never felt unless they were cold, ached, stretched and she could 'feel' them grow, lengthening, and they sprouted more scales that would not see until later either....for a moment she thought that was it. Nothing else seemed to be happening and she even managed to push herself into a semi-seated position, her nose wrinkling at the slight acrid scent of the mess from her stomach.

She managed to push herself a little further from it before the final blow happened. She clawed at her neck as her gills formed themselves further, her breathing almost stopping at the sensation. She gasped for air, raising welts on her neck as she scraped at the skin. Her head was ringing, some small part of her knew that she should be able to breathe on the land but she had become hysterical during the last bout of pain..
The fish part of her battered inside her head, trying to get her into the water. In her panic, her hysteria, she managed to drag herself bodily across the floor and fell face first into the pool of water, her gills working immediately as she passed into unconsciousness..
