Demare's cheeks turned a brighter shade of pink as his blush deepened, hugging her back.
"If there's anything I can do to help you, I will be glad to do so," he told her, starting to get used to the girl finally. He didn't stutter, at least. "Besides... I still think you're brave. I think you handled things much better than I did when we got kidnapped..."

Mayu lingered in the embrace a while longer, then let go of the boy.
"Thanks," she smiled, "But you did most of the work breaking out of the jail cell." It was true, she had only pointed out a few faults in the door and Demare had done the rest.
"Now, to the kitchen?" she asked, not wanting to sound TOO eager in stealing other peoples' food.

"Only because you pointed that crack out," he corrected. "I wouldn't have noticed it otherwise. You're pretty smart, Mayu. I was very impressed."
He thought about how that sounded for a moment. "I mean.... I'm not calling you stupid, I meant that... Oh, nevermind. I'm reading too much into that."
Stupid logical thinking. Sometimes it really did get in the way of him trying to make a compliment. Stepping out of the room, his wings fidgetted a little bit as he glanced down the hallway.
"Yes, shall we?" Demare said with a smile, holding up his hand to elbow level, as if he were about to escort a princess down the stairs.

Mayu giggled. "Thanks." She hadn't even thought that he was calling her stupid before he pointed it out.
"Yes, yes," Mayu said, allowing him to take her arm. She turned her nose up in mock regality, but couldn't help laughing at herself. Her little sister was much better at pretending these sorts of things than she was.

Demare chuckled a little bit at the impression as he lead her down the stairs, mindful of the narrow stairwell as he moved one step ahead, as if to make sure she wouldn't fall down the stairs. Upon reaching the bottom of the stairs, he waited for her to catch up before moving toward the dining room, releasing her arm to pull out a chair for her to sit down if she wanted.
"What kind of ice cream would you like?" he asked, stepping into the kitchen to get out a couple of bowls and some spoons.

Mayu nodded in thanks at the gesture and sat down, looking over to Demare.
"Um.. strawberry," she replied. It was one of her favorite flavors, and not just because it was pink. Though, the pinkness did make it more appealing.

Oh, good. He knew they had that one. Setting the bowls and spoons on the counter, he stepped over to the refridgerator and opened the freezer door, moving a few things around inside before pulling out a container of strawberry ice cream. Closing the door, he moved back to the bowls as he lifted the lid off, but frowned as he noticed the state the ice cream was in.
"It's... kinda soft," he claimed, setting the container down on the counter and dipping a spoon inside, scooping out the very soft, close to soupish ice cream that was inside. "It must be from the power going on and off."

Mayu nodded in understanding. She herself did not mind soupish ice cream -- it still tasted the same -- but she was unsure of Demare's tastes.
"It's fine with me, but if you'd like, we could have something else.. It's your food, after all," she said, nodding.

"Oh, it's fine," he said, smiling weakly. "It's actually kind of fun to drink it."
Picking up the container, he carefully scooped and poured some of the ice cream into the two bowls, placing the lid back on the container and returning it to the freezer. Retrieving the bowls, Demare went back to the table, placing one in front of Mayu, along with a spoon, and setting the other down where he sat.
The lights blinked and flickered a little bit, the halfling turning his attention to the light fixture above the table.
"I'm beginning to wonder if it would be better for the power to simply stay off," he murmured.

The lights fizzed off as a crash of thunder sounded ovehead.
"I think you jinxed it.." Mayu said, with a small chuckle. She sipped some of the soupy ice cream, and looked about in the dark. She was starting to get used to the erratic lighting problems, at least.
"I wonder what time it is now," she muttered, yawning. The darkness was making her sleepy.

Sipping at the ice cream, Demare eyed the clock that was close to the sliding glass door, hardly able to see the time with the dimly lit candle on the table. Squinting his eyes a little bit, he created a small lighted orb by the window of the clock, reading off the time.
"9:55," he told her, having not even realized it was so late. He was tired, but he'd assumed that was merely just exhaustion from the day's events. "It's rather late... We should probably head to bed soon."
A part of him was sad about that. He wanted to spend more time with Mayu... Granted, there was always the morning before she and Kimiko left to go home, but still. He peered back toward the stairs, wondering if their guardians had gone to bed by now. He hadn't seen them for a while.

Mayu nodded, and yawned. Finishing off the last of her ice cream, she got up to place the bowl and the spoon in the sink.
"Let's go check on your little brother and then go to sleep," she said, looking over to Demare. She didn't want the day to end so soon, but she was utterly exhausted at that moment.

Demare finished up his ice cream as well, moving to do the same as Mayu with his dishes. That sounded like a good idea, actually... He hadn't really thought about if Manior was okay or not by himself.
Curling his fingers a little bit, he beckoned the orb he created to his hand, the light hovering over his palm. To him, this was better than a flashlight; the light wasn't limited to only one direction.
"Shall we, then?" he said, stiffling a yawn with his free hand as he started toward the stairs, looking back to make sure Mayu was following. He lead the way up the stairwell and down the hall, a bit surprised that there wasn't any murmurs or whimpers coming from the room.
"I think he may still be asleep," he whispered, peering into the room.

Mayu nodded and followed suit. She tiptoed after Demare and peered into the darkness of the room when they reached it.

Demare felt relief as the toddler was still asleep, hugging his plushie close as he smiled in his sleep. Quietly, he stepped over to his desk and blew out the melting candle that rested upon it, waving the smoke away. Then, he stepped over to his bed and sat on the edge, blowing out the small candles on his nightstand.
"I suppose this is... goodnight, then?" he said a bit idly, sadly. Sometimes, there just didn't seem to be enough hours in the day.
