Jaster looked up. Great, he thought. Three more. I'm in no condition to take on more than one or two people right now. His brute strength wasn't going to get him anywhere, so he decided he'd go ahead and try some charsimatic talking.

God, I'm screwed, he thought to himself.

He sheathed his sword and took the pills from this character who called himself Shad. He looked down at his chest and the crossbow bolt from it. He might as well try them. Even if the pills killed him, the bolt would do it too if left untreated, so he had nothing to lose. He popped the pills and then grinned at Shad. "Well, before I yank this thing out of myself, ask away. I'm an open book," he said. I can tell you right now, I know of no monk. I'm merely a homeless warrior. And the last time I was in the region of Domachi was years and years ago. But if I know it, so shall you."

After that said, he turned to the newcomer and smiled. "Afternoon, my friend. You seem to have missed the majority of the action. Nothing but conversation happening here now; the battle is over." He grinned and then made a slight bow. "Jaster Alan Tikaris, sir. Swordsman extrodinaire. Pleased to make your acquaitence."

He looked around. He'd seemed to have lost Kernyel in the happenings recently. He asked Alhana and Arkayid, "Have you two seen Kernyel? It's like she's just disappeared." He was a bit worried, but then thought to himself, why? The girl can massaccre a mob of bandits as well as I can, in one shot. If anything I need to worry she doesn't kill herself. With that, he added, "Well, if she's not back soon, I'll go look for her."

Arkayid shrugged. "I guess... I mean... If you aren't out wounding people. Fine by me. Why do I care. Jasper, lemme pull that bolt out of you. I think I can pull in enough magic to kill the pain... I think. Either way, your call. As for Kernyel... I dunno."

"I will go look for her, if she's taking a bath." With that, Alhana left to go search for Kernyel.

Jaster grinned a bit and started pulling off the platemail. As he did, he struck up what conversation he could to set himself at relative ease. This wasn't going to be fun. "It's Jaster, sir. Not Jasper," he said. "Easy mistake to make, true, and I won't fault ya' for it, but don't get too miffed at me when I correct ya' every time."

The platemail came off, and he looked down at his chest. For a crossbow bolt sticking out of him, he thought, it wasn't all that bad. Could've been much worse. Then again, if he'd been on his game, and not so rusty with his sword, that wouldn't have hit him period. Heh. Rusty sword. He snickered to himself at the pun he made.

He looked up at Arkayid, grinned that stupid grin, and said, "Ok, Ark. Do 'yer worst."

"Alright, Jaster... I'm going to need you to sit down over there, and well, prepare for a lot of pain." Arkayid had pointed over to a building, which Jasper had followed, and then Arkayid toojk off his gauntlets. "Okay... ready?"

Arkayid put both his hands on the bolt, a boot next to Jasper's side, on the wall, and pulled.

Preictably, said botl came out, and there was little to clean up, since Arkayid had expended some magic to help control, and dull the pain... somewhat.

He then looked at it, and was pleased he got the whole bolt out. Inspecting it, he foudn it still flight worthy and handed it to Jaster. "A suivenior." Arkayid said with a grin. "I'll bandage that if you want, and sew it up."

"Now take this medicane if you want to heal him swiftly and be on you way to continue your journey" Shad spoke with emphasis in every word. He walked up to Arkayid and handed him the 2 pills.

Jaster took the bolt and grinned a bit. He tossed it up into the air and caught it a few times, then pocketed it. If it wasn't going to make a souvenir, there was a slim chance he could use it as ammo, and a much better chance he could use it as both a spear and as evidence to "convince" his buddy Alexander to make him better equipment.

He looked up at Arkayid and grinned. "Thanks, mate. Doubt I couldv'e done that myself without making quite a bit more mess." He hid his pain well. It didn't hurt as much as it had with the bolt still stuck in him, but it sure didn't feel like a bed of daisies, either. Could be worse, he thought. Could be dead.

"Eh, no problem. I try to help." Arkayid said as he shrugged. He replaced his gauntelets, and messed around with them so that he could pretty much on demand use his claws. This involved readjusting the gauntlet's fit repeatedly to the point of where he would open his hand and look around for the razor sharp claws that comprised of his finger nails.

"Well, Jasper--Jaster, Jaster! Sorry. Mother and Kenyel... Kernyel or whatever the hell her name is are somewhere else, leaving us males to do what...? I don't know."

Shad stood there and watched. He pulled out a little apple, out of his puch ,and began eating it. He figured he might be here for awhile.

He then looked as Jaster. "You hide your pain well but..., there is no need to. Your not in the presence of an enemy, i don't understand why. Putting stress on yourself to hide pain can stess someone mentally and physically.

Jaster looked at Arkayid. "Do what? Hell if I know. You tell me. I've got to get to Domachi sometime to have a 'talk' with my blacksmith friend there. And I've pretty much sworn on as a protectorate with Kernyel and your mother Alhana. Considering we're some distance from Domachi and there isn't much protectin' needed, I've got nothing to do." With that, he sat down and started to polish the platemail. Why, he thought, he had no idea. But hey, if he looked all light and holy-like, all the more power to him.

He was jerked out of his thoughts by Shad's voice. He vaguely heard the man speak, but somehow the words registered in his mind. He looked over at Shad and grinned a bit. "You can tell, eh? It's not so much the being in an enemy's sights as it is training. I've been a soldier of the Royal Court for 4 years, and had been trained under a warrior-knight for 12 years before that." He paused, then continued. "It's not so much that as the training. For 16 years I've worn only two expressions. The one you see before you now, and the one you see in battle. You've got to be one of the few people who have seen that face and lived to remember it. It's just in me nature to hide what I feel. Pain, happiness, sadness, joy; it matters not. And if you think it's a stress, both mentally and phsyically, try being an apprentice to a warrior-knight sometime." With that, he flashed a toothy smile and went back to his polishing.

Life was just one big joke, he thought to himself. And only he knew the punchline.

Arkayid chuckled. "My good friend... We're in Domachi, but a ways away from the capital. And you want to know stress? Try learning how to kill things starting when you are seven. I know how to kill someone or something with my hands, claws..." He turned his head to the side and opened his maw. In it were dozens of razor sharp teeth, much like you would find in a real dragon's maw. "Jaws, great-swords, knives, and bows. Oh, and let's not forget how to kill things with magic. All of that in... Eight years. Everyday, with a mother who's hell-bent on making sure you learn this. Just so that 'you would survive, unlike your brothers, sister, and father.' Now that's hard. Oh and let's not forget the rampant hatred of you whenever you walk into a town. Hell, I've had many people who tried to kill me when I was much younger. Dammit, I first killed someone when I was nine. Had no choice in the matter, and I will never forget that man's look when I gutted him with my bare hands."

"Now that's stress." Arkayid said coldly. He turned around and walked away from Jaster, to collect his own thoughts. He didn't go much further, but to the edge of the village, next to the gate, where he sat down in the ashes, and began to sob silently. This village was one of the few that had accepted him for what he was... and now this village was no more.

Shad looked at Akayid then Jaster. "Hmp our lands are very differant, but then again I am differant from both of you. I never needed to train for combat...it has been inside me.., techniques, movement, tactics...everything you carry into battle is in me."..."why am I telling you all this?"

Shad clenched his fist and the apple broke. "Your land has already suffered from darktimes. The less you know the better." He knew that he already said too much. Shad began to feel a stange warmth that he never in his whole life felt before. "Why do I feel this warmth?" he mummbled to himself He dropped the destroyed apple from his hand, Shad now had more questions he needed to know, what was this warmth. "Have you taken those 2 pills yet?"

((Sorry guys! it's hard to get online here!))

It was a suprisingly short time before Kernyel was rejuvenated. It was hard for her to bring herself back into a human form; to regain a human consciousness. It brought constraints on her that she instinctually rebelled against. Her true nature was all too obvious, now. And the necessity of a humanistic form was a tedious burden for her. It was so much more appealing to remain in the water, disbursed in the slow rythm of the currents. But, pull herself together she did. And it was a painful thing, but soon she broke the surface of the water and took a deep breath as she made her way to the bank to gather her things and get dressed. It was during this process she saw Alhana.

Her faculties were together now, but there was a distance in her. Like she had forgotten what it was to be human. She nodded respectfully to Alhana and began to dress herself. Modesty, regret, happiness....all those human emotions seemed far from her now. And she was too apathetic to miss those aspects that had made her human.

She finished getting ready and walked to Alhana, prepared to be on her way. Something still called her, closer now and more forcefully. She looked at what was left of the town and at the scythe in her hand. Remembrance flooded back to her and all she thought was that it was a pity that she hadn't finished the job correctly. She shrugged and strode forward, not really waiting for Alhana.

Somewhere in her mind, that part of her that had been Kernyel all her life was crying desperately and sobbing in frustration at her inprisionment and the danger she had placed her new found friends in. The part of her that was now in control was so...inhuman. She heard the anguish of her other self and felt nothing. No anger, no triumph, no pity....

And softly, Kernyel-that-was began to lose hope of ever merging the two parts of herself into something whole, began to fade quietly into the shadows of her mind to live or die peacefully.

It was the image of her mother, sad and disappointed that came to her mind after a while, convicting her and emboldening her as well. And with it came a new sense of hope, of purpose. And even though it seemed hopeless, trapped Kernyel began to quietly pick away small bits of her prison and contemplate how she would regain the upper hand in this battle for her body and maybe her soul, if she had one.

(I lost everyone, sorry...was trying to not loose Tolly-sama, but it cannot be helped. *moving her characters)

Toki walkedover to Arkayid, having spotted hiom and his 'group' while in the air. Asleeping Mimi was in his hands. He glanced at the villiage and shook his head
"Places like this seem to be poping up everywhere. Girls disapearing and being fond dead. It's where they're being found that bugs me. And don't you believe the king and queen of this land have the right to know about all of this? I hear the King is strong, while the queen is weak and has her heart easilly changed....yet she's strangely loyal. How is it all this mess came about. Still going to see them?"

"Toki are you being mean again?" Mimi asked oftly as she arosed from her sleep "Aren't we going to go see a queen? Why are we....what happend"

"Mimi please go back to sleep. We'll be there soon enough. Take care Mr. Arkayid....and if you have any female friends, be weary of their location....if you care."

With that Toki took back off into the air and went speeding towards the capitol of Domachi.

Kernyel walked past her friend and headed to Domachi at a brisk pace, foregoing any pleasantries with any of her traveling companions in her single-minded pursuit of the source of whatever was exuding such a pull on her.
