 "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."He had finally gotten out of the center of the shelter when he heard the screaming...without hesitation the university student was off in the direction of the danger, hoping in his heart of hearts that Seika wasn't out there, one of the people in danger. And what he found wasn't that, to his relief...but it was something very dangerous, instead. It was a purple body with strange, lumpy arms and it was moving slowly towards him...
"Aa...get out of the way!" his fist crashed into the body viciously, his devils joining the fight and thrashing it improbably fast, clearing the path between he and Seika swiftly...the exhaustion of the fight completely lost on him as he worried and hoped to find her. "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."His decision had been made days ago; to protect the people of his shelter, this city, of the world in the name of Justice Hatsu had cast his lot with Ronaldo Kuriki and was already taking on the demons that still lingered in the city to try and clear out a location for something they had been planning for those who tried to invade Iwatodai...a way to trap them, without killing them if possible, and win more of the survivors over to their cause of Egalitarianism. He wasn't sure if it would work, but they had to try...and so he felt the power flow through him, a devil with a great horn...his mouth opened and a noise came out that paralyzed the devils where they stood.
Po-moukuten did the rest, and he let the power flow out of him slowly, returning his feet to the ground. "Aa...good work. We'll keep the people safe," he nodded, bumping fists with the Kishin and looking over his shoulder, "Ronaldo will do the rest..." Hatsu had noticed that most of the fighting hadn't come to Iwatodai thus far, but did that mean that they were going to have to go out of the city entirely to pull the other teams out of their own base areas and get them to engage in a fight? Or did it mean that despite all the talk about factions and ideals, nobody really wanted to fight anybody else...maybe, just maybe, they could get through the day without having to challenge each other and fight?
...No, that was wishful thinking. If nobody fought, nobody could come to an agreement about what they should do when they met Polaris. They had to present...a unified will, Ronaldo had said? That meant they needed to get people together...which meant they had to fight to decide who they would follow. It couldn't be Yamato...he wasn't sure what else he knew about the others, but he knew that much. Or else the people he had fought so hard to protect...the children...the elderly...they would... "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."Uneventful was a good way to describe the day so far; after his initial scuffle with some rioters, Hatsu hadn't seen a single person other than the Egalitarianism Faction in Iwatodai all day long. It was almost disconcerting...did they need to leave the city and their well-planned strategy in order to lure some people in? Ronaldo had assured him that eventually people would come to Iwatodai to defeat them, but he had yet to see hide nor hair of any of them.
He spent a little time shoring up the defenses of the shelter, ensuring that the people within would be safe as they could be in the face of future dangers. It was his philosophy not to let anybody suffer for the 'war' that was to come. The easiest thing to do in the world was forget the little people when the fighting started...Hatsu wouldn't allow himself to do that. "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."He hadn't expected it...and perhaps he should have seen it coming, though he was too focused on the war and the people and repairing the wall to have noticed the sudden onrush of powerful devils from beyond the Gate. It was only when the rumbling began to shake the ground and a loose board fell from the gate that he had turned his attention to the hole and through it, saw the massive snake Ananta slithering down the road knocking over cars, signs, even knocking bricks and chunks away from entire buildings as it closed in on their shelter. Immediately he knew that he faced an enemy that was beyond any demon he had fought against until now. He didn't have time to think! Drawing back one of its massive heads, the snake tossed a car and it crushed part of the shelter's gate back as it came to rest right upon it...a makeshift patch in the hole it had just created, if not a sturdy one...but the multi-headed serpent continued to advance. He could only hope to hold it for so long he knew...
...His eyes scanned the field as he considered his options. Bench, no...light pole? Could be a good weapon, but no. Even in the back of his mind Po-moukuten knew that this was a foe that they would struggle to beat. And then he saw it...that terminal! The summoning terminal! "Aa...there!" his phone flicked open and he held it up fast, inviting the power within to flow into him! And it filled him with a chill, a playful frost just beneath the skin and icy eyes that turned to Ananta with mischief beneath the glaze.
"Hee...hooo...!"
And winter set in deep upon the body of that giant Ananta... His body felt...inexplicably lighter, unlike the last time he had gone through one of those possessions...and the curious people gathered around him to ask questions he couldn't quite figure out how to answer for them. What had he done? How did it work? Did this mean he had the power to win? He didn't know...
...All he knew for sure was that he would try with all of his might to defend these people who believed in him, to give them a fair shake in this world, whatever it might become. And Seika would be there with him, giving him the strength to fight on... "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."It was ridiculous to see the Obariyon trying to squeeze through the half-crushed car as it tried to get into the shelter and 'invade' for all the good it was going to do the little guy. How were devils of this level still even alive this late during the apocalypse with so many stronger things overrunning the cities? He didn't even have the heart to kill it when it came tumbling out of the car onto the ground in front of him, jumping up to its feet with hair in its eyes with two fists raised as if it were going to engage him in a 30s-style boxing match. It was...almost adorable, really.
"Fight me!"

"Why not?!"
"You're leaving."
"What?! No I'm-WHAAAAAAA!"

Let's play a game and see!" a demon taunted him as Hatsu passed by the Shrine and saw him at the top of the steps. He didn't think he had time to really play this game with the devil, but it was so insistent that it summoned a couple of demons to keep him from making a clean getaway instead. It was like that, was it? "Come! Come! There's THREE of us! Guess right and win an awesome...WHATTHEHELLISTHAT?!"
...Suddenly, in the sky above the Shrine, a demon called from the deepest depths of his phone arose to loom high over the shrine...black was its tint and wide was its toothy smile. And its voice boomed out as it stomped down its foot and crushed three Ghost Q's all in a single step, putting an end to the game just like that...
"HEEEE...HOOOOO...!"

"Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."Ghost Q had been stomped; Hatsu and Lucifer Frost were lifted onto the shoulders of Black Frost as it then marched them casually through the Iwatodai area and back towards the shelter that they had been protecting. Rounds outside of the shelter hadn't turned up any human enemies yet, but demons...well, there were still some of them stuck to the feet of his tall demon-chariot just now. Probably a couple more just from the walk back. Not that he dismissed the lives of demons out of kind, but they were attacking them after all, so...
"Aa...down now," he commanded at the big, Black Frost let him down with a friendly (and somehow terrifying) 'Ho!'. Dismissing the other, smaller frost he called out his oldest demonic friend, Po-moukuten, once again. Together they lingered near the gate as if waiting for something just a little longer. What it was, they weren't sure...but something... "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."It had finally arrived in Iwatodai...Benetnasch, the final Septentriones. And in an instant it made itself known to the unsuspecting defenders of the shelter that the Egalitarian Regime had managed to defend all of this time.
Demons were summoned and wiped out with a single pulse from the 7th of the Invaders from Another World that had nearly destroyed their own by now, and as another pulse went out the people around Hatsu were beginning to crumble to their knees...an immediate weight of hopelessness falling over them. And yet now, as ever, there was one who stood amidst the failing and forced himself to stand, to step forward...his own singular demon he had yet to see dismissed emerging from within his phone to hover above him and bring to its lips a trumpet and play its gallant chord! All the while Benetnasch wound up, gunfire bouncing away from it as though it were made of an impenetrable skin, and the Septentrione unleashed the fatal blow almost simultaneous with the heavenly chorus of his devil's horn!
...And the fatal blow never fell. His eyebrow raised as he wondered what could have caused the sudden disruption in the blow...was it...?
"Harima! Get out of there!" a voice called and he didn't need to be asked twice this time. Loathe as he was to do it, he fell back from the Gate and hoped against hope that Benetnasch wouldn't follow. He needed time to escape, to get the people to safety. He hoped that soon, the others would realize just how big a threat this thing posted to them...and turn their attention from each other to the real enemy. But in the back of his mind he remembered...and wondered...what had Trumpeter done just now that had bothered Benetnasch? Hatsu wasn't sure how many had been injured in the initial charge that came in the wake of the Seventh Septentrione, but they had pushed back the attack temporarily...only for another wave to come just as the massive, black form of a certain snowman glared down at him with his wide smile and intimidatingly huge stature.
"Hee hee HO!"
"Aa...stop them!"
"Hee!"
Ice and open-fisted slaps rained down upon the battlefield just beyond the gate and the demons screeched in terror and pain as the Black Frost laid his wrath upon them. No one effed with Black Frost. And they learned that lesson very well today... "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."It had been a mistake to pursue the Septentrione, but his curiosity at whether or not he could replicate what his Trumpeter had done got the better of him. Dismissing demons and rejecting human attacks was an impossible combination to overcome, but unusual circumstances had been revealed when his Trumpeter's horn had sounded. Benetnasch had retreated, albeit temporarily...and Hatsu's life had been temporarily saved. Now, however, that luck appeared to be running out. And again he felt the hopelessness of an unequivocally unwinnable challenge before him. No demons, no ability to fight, and Trumpeter hadn't sounded his horn for him a second time. And he didn't see an escape anywhere on the streets...
...Until he felt a hand gripping his ankle from below. The sewers?!
"Mr.! Hurry, quick!" the voice of a child called out to him, as a female child's called out below, "He can't follow into the sewers! Climb down!" He didn't need to be told twice and followed, landing down in the pipes below next to two children whom he instantly recognized...the little girl and boy he had saved a couple of days ago! They were still alive! "Of course we are, Mr.! You saved us! We've been really brave ever since and used these to get around town and help people, like you!" His smile returned, and he thought for a moment if these kids could survive...if he had helped them survive all of this as long as they had...maybe, just maybe, he could find a way to survive this, too?
"Aa...all right. Let's get back to the shelter..." "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."En route to the shelter via the sewers they had encountered a Heqet, but it hadn't been any real trouble for the young man with the help of his powerful ally Lucifer Frost. And against all odds, the kids seemed to be rather fond of the little guy...touching his toga and his blond hair much to the snowman's annoyance. Still, he tolerated it, and they followed as Hatsu continued down the hidden path they had showed him to return to the shelter just in time...hopefully...to regroup and come up with another plan to deal with that Benetnasch. If they didn't do it, after all, who would? Everyone was too busy fighting each other, right?
"Up here?" he asked the children as he reached a ladder and they nodded briskly. "Aa...thank you. You're both very brave..." They beamed under his hand as it patted their heads. Was it possible he was actually good with kids?! ...No, this wasn't the time to think about that. They had a battle to fight. "Hard Luck" Hatsu Harima, the Heartbreak Kid"Aa, I'll stand my ground...I'll help you."And when he had ascended the ladder it wasn't a moment too soon; once again they were under siege by the most impossible of Septentriones as their attacks fell harmlessly away from it and their demons couldn't be summoned...Lucifer Frost dismissing behind him as the children looked on with wide eyes from down the ladder. He had to act fast if he was going to save them...and as many people as he could from this threat. "Down the ladder...wait until the sound of fighting stops," he warned them and they nodded obediently, before he ascended and let the manhole cover close behind him to ensure the kids remained free from sight. He moved out to the edge of the shelter and clenched his fist, bounding over a barricade to once again make himself a target of their great enemy.
"Aa...Wu Kong, distraction," he had commanded the Monkey King to do the hard job of luring it away just as they got back out of reach of its pulse...but it was closing in fast enough that they would soon be in range again. And to his relief Wu Kong had accepted nobly without hesitation. It was likely a suicide mission if it could attack outside of dismissal range. Hatsu just hoped that it wasn't, and with a solemn nod the two parted ways...the Septentrione gratefully following the devil's path. For now.
