Another try at the walking course. The mare took a few hesitant steps towards it, and then bolted straight for the hurdles, knocking one over and skidding to a halt in a cloud of dust.
Axel coughed miserably.

Before Axel could climb down and attempt to right the fallen hurdle, the surly mare bolted again, knocking over yet another hurdle.

Someone was laughing at him. Glaring in their direction, Axel saw Preacher's distinctive navy-blue ponytail. He turned his glare on the horse, who promptly ran into a third hurdle, sending it flying.
Horses, Axel thought savagely, should all be turned into dogfood.

Alister leaned forward and patted Comet's neck gently. He danced to one side. "Shh, shhh, little one. I know there's a lot of people around. Relax. Let's give you you head, Comet." With that, he smiled and guided the horse around the lap. They gained speed exponentially, Alister letting the horse run out its nerves around the course. With a gentle hand, he guided the horse away from the other riders. A smile creased his face. He'd kind of missed horses! -1 modifier | +1 modifier (previous exp) SUCCESS

After one lap, Comet shied to the left, pulling Alister with him. Instead of going for another lap, the horse tried to nose his way to the hurdles. "Whoa, whoa Comet." -1 modifier | +1 modifier (previous exp) 1 failure | 1 success

Preacher was laughing so hard at Axel's continued string of failure that she barely noticed when Galvani knocked down a hurdle out of spite... again. Glue, she thought, glue was more useful. -3 modifier | 4 failure | 1 success

Wearily, Axel climbed down from the horse and started righting the hurdles the horrible horse had knocked down. The mare followed him like an evil shadow. Done at last, Axel wiped his hands off on his pants and put his boot in the stirrup. The horse whipped her head around and bit him on the arm.
"SON OF A--" Axel roared, hauling himself the rest of the way into the saddle. A burst of familiar feminine laughter interrupted him, and he shut his mouth with a click of teeth. Axel sat, staring down at the horse's laid-back ears, turning red.

Preacher snarled into Galvani's ear. He flattened them, whuffled angrily in her direction, but soared over the next hurdle. Turning his head, Preacher trotted over the Axel and stretched her mouth into a cocky grin. "I knew ya was right awful, but damn, have ya ********' cleared even one of 'em?" Preacher started to feel the tiniest bit bad for him... -2 modifier | 3 failures 2 SUCCESS

[[-3 modifier]] At the sight of Galvani the foul mare grew fractious, shifting from foot to foot, sidling around under Axel so much he looked like he was jigging in place. "No," said Axel, with as much dignity as he could muster as he bounced up and down on the grouchy horse. Alas, there was just no way to be cool in this situation. None at all. The mare started turning in circles again. WINS: 0 | FAILS: 17

Preacher snorted as Axel's mare began turning in circles. Unfortunately, her snort caused Galvani to twist his stupid head around and snap at her. His big, uneven teeth nearly caught her arm. She leaned to avoid them and tumbled inelegantly to the ground. Ow. -2 modifier | 4 failures 2 SUCCESS

"Preacher, are you o-"Perhaps sensing his good intentions and desiring to ruin everything good in his life, the mare whirled and ran in the opposite direction, leaving Preacher and Galvani in the dust. She bucked hard, sending Axel flying yet again. Dazed, Axel lay in the dirt for the third time that day. He wasn't sure what was broken. Could be nothing, could be everything. WINS: 0 | FAILS: 18
