“You only care about your sons.” She screams, eyes wild and body shaking with irrepressible anger. “You lost your wife, and you don’t give a damn about your daughters, when they can be taken away at any time--”

A hard slap across the face stops her tirade, and she finds a bitter smile forming on her lips, as she turns to look at him. Her cheek stings, and her fists clench by her sides, and she glares back at him and storms towards the door.

“Don’t you dare.” He says in a low growl.

“Like you care.” She spits out and slams the door, hard.

She pounds her fists into ice and they hurt, but who gives a damn when it is an outlet for all the fury boiling up within her.

“It’s beautiful.” She says in awe, watching the storm rage on in the distance, churning the ocean waters. “Teach me.”

“You know I can’t.” He sighs. “Father would kill both of us.”

“Not the prodigal son.” She murmurs, a hint of bitterness in her voice and he looks concernedly at her. “I’m fine, Radek. C’mon, teach me and then we can stir up storms together and throw those humans from their boats.” She sighs, a smile of malicious delight dancing upon her lips, picturing the vision before her.

“One day.” He tells her and she frowns at him. “One day, I promise.”

She slips out amidst the crying, the happy babbling, the hugs.

She doesn’t quite know how to face her now, like this, after all these years. She is no longer the little girl that had hid behind that rock, and could do nothing but to watch her mother being taken away... hands grasp her fur collar and pulls it closer, as if it were a security blanket. She breathes, cold air misting her breath, and there is the crunch of snow behind her.

She had figured that her absence would be discovered, even in a family of thirteen. She doesn’t want to look behind and simply waits till whoever it is addresses her.

“***.” Her heart stops, an ice cold fist clenching around it. It is her mother’s voice. “It’s not your fault.” Ilona Adriatico whispers and she feels a soft hand upon her shoulder.

She finds herself biting back tears as the memory floods back, and shakes her head with a shuddering sob. Does her mother think that she can erase the pain, the guilt, with just one sentence? Does she really think that with that, she will forget that helplessness, that anger...

She doesn’t answer, and instead runs forward, transforming as she dives into the water.

*** had spent the day down at the seaside again, using her sharp eye to catch any shine or glimmer in the sand to add to her collection. She walked away with several new shells and a few pebbles and bits of glass that had been worn smooth by the waves.

That night she sat in her room by the light of the lantern hanging above her desk to work on something special. She picked out only the nicest things from her collection; things that seemed to give off both strength and beauty. *** was going to make a bracelet for Aleka to match her own; a friendship bracelet.

It was the first night that she had spent completely alone. When she had been small there had been the other fledgelings in her rookery. Even when she had outgrown that, welcomed back to her family home, there had been the knowledge that there was someone right down the hall... Or even that Aleka had promised to come visit that night so they could trade stories while curled up in her nest or sneak out to train late beneath the moon.

She was completely alone here.

Her fingers brushed along the woven leather bracelet bound around her wrist. She thought of the night she had made it, and then back to the night that she had made its companion. Tears welled in her eyes as she turned to bury her head against her pillow. "I hate this place... I'll never belong here..."

Her words were half-hearted; cracked with sadness and loss. That night *** was only relieved to be alone because it meant that no one could hear her crying.

She stepped away from all the murmuring; for her, the choice was easy enough to make without needing to consult anyone - if she had no choice but to offer up her heart for one of the three, it would be creation. How she would be obtaining greater knowledge or even put it to good use if her heart was to be sacrificed she had no idea, but none of the other two choices appealed to her.

She hated this - to fade away without leaving an impact, to vanish without at least making a difference in someone's life. Was this what she was called out from the fog to do? A vessel to be fattened up with memories for some greater power, so that they could reap the benefits of her hard work later on?

She sighed, finding herself surrounded by what appeared to be a thick forest. In front of her laid a crown... Waiting for her. Waiting for her heart.

She stepped forward and closed her eyes, placing one hand over her chest in order to reach for her heart. Ah, it wasn't an unfamiliar feeling - the pain and agony reminded her of when her heart was stolen from her, but having to tear it out herself amplified it and made it worse. With every tug, the pain intensified, and when she finally removed her heart, memories started to flow - memories that belonged to her, when she had a different name. Is this what they meant by seeing your life flash before your eyes at death's door? What's the point of remembering now, of all times? She wanted to stop, to turn back the clock, to make a few more friends-

But it was all too late.

Mac had a habit of making her cry.

The first time they met, he had mistook her for someone else - a boil of all people - and then flinched for having touched her. He was mean, offensive, abrasive, tactless... The list goes on and on. The only pleasant thing about him was his pet - an adorable, calm Whip-poor-will that acted as a buffer for their interactions.

Fate had a funny way of working though, and he became extremely important to her... *** probably wouldn't be *** if he wasn't around, but she remembered. Her letter, the one she signed with her real name. She remembered that he broke her heart, and that it never did heal...

*** had followed him to his room, like a stalker. However, she had reasons for finding him suspicious - he appeared in the rain on a foggy night, a hooded reaper who was in the middle of moving into the dorms after such a horrible field trip to--

Distrust slowly turned into trust, however, and Shun became one of the friends she respected and could rely on - he was honest, straightforward, logical, loyal... And a much better person than he thinks he is. She didn't always agree with his choices, but had came to terms with the fact that some things just weren't going to change.

There was some regret. Definitely. He had been longing to find what it was he had thought and even now he wasn't sure he had found it and now, Aryn felt himself slipping away. He had offered his heart to destruction and in return his entire being was sacrificed. However, as it faded, so did his memories. Though not before playing out before him one last time.

He was no longer a single being, but a stream of memories, wrapped in a greater entity. His heart had finally become a part of something greater.

"What the hell, ***! We've been on this island for over a year together! We've gone through a load of crap already together, we're even friends--how the hell can you turn around and say this is our first time meeting!?"

"Because it is our first meeting." *** said, taken aback by her anger. He didn't understand. Never before had he met this woman and yet she was claiming such things about him. It was just impossible. She must have had him mistaken for someone else. "Look. I'm sorry, but I think you're mistaking me for someone else. I don't know you and I've never seen you before today."

"It's so cute!" **** gushed as she stared at the doll in the window. Normally she wasn't one to fawn over a stuffed toy, but with the rounded eyes, the velvety fabric, the floppy ears... she just couldn't resist. "I'm sorry sweetie, but you know we're tight on money right now...," her mother replied, gently pulling her away from the window. They had only come to get food, so now they had to go home.

****'s face became hidden in her hair for a moment before popping back up with a bright smile. "It's fine, I didn't want to buy it, I just thought it was cute," she assured her mother, "Who would want a stupid stuffed animal anyway? It would just take up space."

When **** got home, she raced up the stairs with the excuse of washing for supper. Leaning on the bathroom door, she bit her lip in frustration. She couldn't be selfish, not when her mother was trying so hard...

He finally spotted her. Among the entrance was a woman dressed in a white simple dress, and a scared wrapped around her neck. He knew she was coming, but the sight of her made him pause in awe. She looked--

"Wow Saya, you look--you're very..." He fumbled over his words. He wasn't use to complimenting people. Especially women. It only proved harder when she looked as amazing as she did. "You look really pretty." He finished sheepishly, holding his hand out towards her.

Junko was her soulmate. *** had decided that one day, and it had stuck. They bonded over similar interests and hobbies, started a small business together, and now, she was going to be a part of her family! Ahhh, how exciting! *** just can't wait to tell her mother all about what a wonderful, talented, and hard-working ghoul her new daughter is!

"Stay here," was all they said before they closed the door behind them, leaving the group of underage trainees and one adult in a room. Just moments before they had been in a booze store buying alcohol for the party when the cops discovered them. Perhaps at the call of another, and after a long walk to the police station, they were left here in the room, without a clue as to what was going to happen next.

*** shifted uncomfortably in his seat. His eyes on the door that the cop had exited through.

"Well, we are absolutely ********. Good job guys." They really had. It should have been a quick mission to pick up the requested items, but as usual, things went south. d**k put his arms behind his head and leaned back in his chair. "I guess we wait then, until they make the phone calls, probably send you lot to youth penitentiary or something, I could do with some vacation time."

"... I could have sworn, wait is there someone in Caelius's office." The sound of footsteps approached and *** sucked in a breath. "Mark if you are spying on us I am going to tear you in half, kill you, and then tear you in half again." It wasn't Mark in the office. *** had sneaked in but it wasn't to spy, he had been looking for something, in hopes to help some others. But one thing led to another and now he was eavesdropping. However, he wasn't alone. Perched on his head was small winged orb, who was every bit as curious as he was to finding out what these hunters were talking about.

The footsteps approached closer.

Oh s**t! They were really going to come in--

"Come out now! I mean it or--" He stopped, when he came across the--what the hell was that?

"The homo stopped in its tracks! It--INCOMING!" Beneath the table, two trouble makers had formed a team, fighting off any and all who approached, labling them homos and attacking them with an assortment of foods.

*** was pissed.

A bowl of salad exploded over the table, raining down around them. But the two refused to come out.
