Again, she tried the same technique as last time, moving her wrists and arms so that they crossed each other, making a small opening with the chakra in her. Once there was a small hole in the knot, she quickly proceeded to slide her finger under the rope and tug on it until it was free again. Now there was only one more on her wrists, and then she could start working on her forearms. Her arms were tired from all this moving and shifting around while being tied up, but she tried to cheer heself up. After all, she was having a dash of good luck, and that was a welcome change to the chakra molding that she had practiced a while ago. Now that was quite horrid. Shivering, she went back to feeling the knot on the back side, so she could finally free her wrists and get on with the ones on her forearms.

Now hoping to get the last one off, she moved and shifted, but it wouldn't seem to cooperate with her. Using her chakra, she sent bursts of it into the rope itself, trying to shift it and move the tendrils or shrink it somehow so that it would be easier for her to manouver with. It seemed to work, because the next moment she felt a gap in the ropes. Inwardly smiling, she undid the ropes and shook her wrists around, which were starting to become a little numb. Now she needed to work on the ones on her forearms, but that was going to be a little trickier, since she couldn't exactly bend her arms like her wrists. This was going to definitely take some more chakra.

Now trying for the one near furthest down and clsoe to her hands, Sakura shifted her weight so that it was leaning more to her left. Shaking her arms and compressing on one side while moving the other alternately, she managed to get them closer to her so that she could reach them. All the while, she had a chakra barrier around her arms to make it shift down faster, while also sending bursts of tendrils down the knots to loosen the grip it had on her arms. Feeling a little fatigued, she almost stopped, but kept going until it finally reached her fingers. While fumbling with the knot, she tried to glance out the window and tell how much time had passed. Based from the sun's position and the shadow of Amaya, she deemed it close to lunch, since the length was very short and at a slight angle from the angle at which their academy was situated, although she couldn't really tell for sure. Finally getting it free, Sakura glanced at Amaya, whom she had caught up with already. It was only a streak of luck though, and since Amaya had been here so much longer, she would probably be out of here very soon. Sighing, she went back to her task and tried to focus, attempting, and failing, to ignore the delicious smell from the bento. Ah... the pure torture.

The scissoring method had worked on Amaya’s previous knot, but there had been an unforeseen result that the child was now forced to deal with. Somehow, the next knot up her arm had twisted its way around her arms yet again and it had an incredibly strong hold on the girl. It seemed that no matter how Amaya wriggled or squirmed she couldn’t loosen the grip on her forearm. As a matter of fact, it felt like it had twisted around so much that it was now pinching her. What the hell was this?! With a sigh, the girl stopped working at it to give herself a little time to think and figure out how best to work with it. After all, this “trying to work through it by force and feeling” seemed to be getting her into more trouble than she had bet on. However, this was just another little something that she would have to work through; especially if she wanted that bento box.

Sighing through her nose again, she noticed that Sakura had already blasted her way through the first five knots and had caught up to the small girl. Damn, she was good. Oh well, that just meant that the small child still had things to learn from people would were considered her “equals”. No, Amaya considered herself the lowest of the academy students, but that was due to her age and inexperience; her size probably had something to do with that too. Losing her concentration, the girl felt her energy leave her body as she failed to utilize her chakra successfully. While it was frustrating, the Keiji wasn’t going to let this get to her and she was simply going to push through this little dilemma until she had freed herself and she could dive into her bento box; the same one that kept sitting there, taunting her with its closeness. It sat right at her feet and she just couldn’t get to it because of the blasted ropes. She heard her stomach plead with her for the food, but there was nothing she could do to appease the grumbling monster. That is what she always told her brother: there was a grumbling monster in their tummies and it needed to be fed, so they had best eat all of their food. It was silly, but her brothers never fought vegetables or anything that normal two year olds would oppose because of that.

She watched as the kick fell just short. Something like watered-down disappointment came over her. Yae had the slightest bias toward rooting for Fudou, simply because he was the more familiar of the two. Although she really didn't care about who won, it made things interesting to put her faith in one of the fighters. She fell back, looking up at the sky now. It's not like she needed to watch every moment of the fight to know who the winner was, after all. Laying back like that felt nice; it took even more stress off of her overworked legs. Yae ran her hand smoothly through the healthy green crop of grass below her. Something about the living texture the plants gave the ground restored her determination. This time I finish it.

Interestingly, while she had gotten the last knot untied from the last try, she had managed to somehow move her ties somewhere to the top of her forearms, near the elbows. Her good luck up until now had managed to turn itself around. Sakura wasn't all that surprised though, because she was bound to have a hard time somewhere in the process. She couldn't go on and blast through the excercises all by herself in one go, however much she wanted to. Sighing, she tried shifting her elbows and arms, sending more bursts of chakra into the rope so that she could maybe fray them, but they seemed too sturdy to do anything but hold firm, and as she moved, they got to the point where it seemed to tighten if she did anything else. Opting to stay still until she figured out how to get out of this mess, she removed the chakra barrier and watched Amaya as she did her work silently.

'Mendokusai,' she thought as she felt the rough rope scratching against her skin. At least there wasn't any direct touch because of the long, fingerless gloves she wore, but they still irritated her because this made it that much harder to create friction and momentum to move downwards. 'Maybe the next try,' she thought as she rested her tired hands a little. Her chakra reserves were a bit low, so after the next couple tries, she would probably have to rest, whether she liked it or not.

This time, Sakura contracted her arms closer together, trying to get them as close as possible so she could shake the ropes down. This position strained a lot of her muscles so she would have to do this quickly since she couldn't maintain it for long periods of time. Sending chakra up the ropes again, she tried to sense how the ropes were tied up, and then gave her arms a couple firm shakes to make it reach her fingers. It went half-way down after a while, but Sakura had to stop and relax before she got a cramp from being in such an uncomfortable position for an extended period of time. The additional chakra spent on her arms to protect the rope from causing friction was really hindering more than helping, it seemed, so she decided to try it a different way the next time. and see how it worked out. Any more experimentation would have to wait until she ragained her chakra, because this last attempt would most likely be her last until she rested up.

It took Yae three attempts to finally stand. Things were already not looking good. She hobbled over to the track, dizzy and demotivated. Certainly it didn't get any worse than this. All of this work left her hurting, hungry, and perhaps worst of all, bored. There really wasn't a way to make running a mind-occupying task. At least not as far as Yae knew. That was totally the problem, she decided. Not a lack of physique or the proper mentality. Clearly she would be better at running if it actually took a minimal amount of conscious thought. But it didn't, and so it didn't appeal to her. Once again she trod over to the grass.

Having slowed down to really think about her situation, though it sounded like a child being put in time out, seemed to be helping the small girl’s situation. This time she moved slowly and purposefully. Amaya used her chakra to create a thin layer between this newest section of rope and her skin so that it would grab less and it would be more willingly maneuverable. Instead of scissoring, the child rotated her forearms, coaxing the rope to untangle as a result of the scissoring. Her moves were gentle and concise, she didn’t want to make a wrong move and help it tighten again; these knots were already tight enough as is. Amaya’a breathing was low, slow, and steady as she thoughtfully twisted and rotated. While it took a while, her method was effective in bringing the knot back to its original position on her forearm. That was her main focus with that movement. Plus, with her conscious use of chakra, it was easier to slide across the rope over all.

This time, instead of just rotating since that wasn’t doing anything other than relocating the knot in a horizontal plane, Amaya began by forcing one arm “on top” of the other one so that the tension was dispersed differently. Then, she took the time to continuously alternate which arm was on top. Once again, this was a tedious process, but it was working for her so the child was just going to have to practice her patience skills. Carefully, the girl maneuvered the rope down the length of her forearm, tightening the hold of the loops above because of how she was having to stretch it downwards. Eventually, the knot just barely came into reach, with the upper loops digging into the flesh around her forearms. It wasn’t cutting or leaving burn marks, it was just pressed tightly into the skin because of the severe angle Amaya had to force the closest knot into. Using the same method as she had before, the child forced the base of the free end back through the knot in order to free herself. With its release, the grip on her arms relaxed because the ropes were no longer being pulled downward, they could just rest in the position most natural for them.

If she was going to give up she may as well stay out of the Inuzaka's way, wherever he was on the track. Maybe stopping completely was a bad idea. If she kept moving a little bit at least she would be making some tiny bit of progress. She could even just walk the rest of the way and say that counted. But that would be cheating herself, and so she refused. The mind-numbing boredom induced by mindlessly pacing the track was starting to feel like a sort of hell for Yae. She was trapped, running aimlessly in a circle for all eternity. Except she wasn't running aimlessly at all. In fact, her goal was quite clear, she just needed to compose herself so that she could effectively reach that goal.

The finish line was so close. It wasn't actually marked, since it was just the random spot Yae had chosen to start at. But in her eyes there were checkered flags. Black-and-white symbols marking the end of her premier race. It was too good to be true. She had lost all track of time since she started. Even when she tried checking the sun she wasn't able to approximate (she had forgotten where it had originated.) No matter what, it had to be near lunch time. Her stomach growled at her as if to verify this point. The lightheaded feeling was coming and going in waves. She could feel it start to subside. All she had to do now was buckle down and run a quarter of the track.

Fudou's kick ended up meeting only air and he went into an awkward twirl as his momentum was so strong. Fortunately he missed Shiro's kick by a hair's breadth despite falling forwards. He became aware of the situation moments after his lucky dodge and attempted to follow up with a punch from the same side arm as his kick had been. Hopefully Shiro would be still regaining his balance from trying that kick and wouldn't be able to dodge on time.

Amaya noted how low she was getting on chakra, but with the progress she was making it was worth it. After this attempt she only had one more in her, so she wanted to make them count. The rope going up her forearms was very tight now due to the amount of twisting and tugging she had done. It made it difficult to maneuver and that was going to have to be her first matter of business. Once more, the small girl called on her chakra, this time the gentle blue and purple was visible on her skin. Her control had been getting better over the past few attempts and this was the first it was clearly visible. She had one time during her molding exercise where a soft glow and the occasional flicker was visible, but nothing this predominant and noticeable. While that was a point for her to be proud, the small girl had to remain focused not only to continue using her chakra but so she could release another knot.

Instead of just focusing on the next available knot, it was time for Amaya to do a little bit of extra thinking before carrying on. The chakra was once again used as a barrier between her skin and the ropes so that they would slide better, but this time she covered her both of her arms from wrist to elbow in chakra. Since she was doing so well controlling it this time, she figured it would be best to push her limit and her abilities to see if she really could hold something like that since she had never had a chance to try before.

This time, Amaya started by focusing on her elbows, which were just above the final knot. If she could work that one knot down, the others had to choice but to follow. With her arms and wrists being as thin as they were, she was a fairly small child after all, there was little room to move in the ropes, so she would have to count on them weighing each other down as she stacked them. It didn’t take long, thanks to her coating of chakra, to work all four of the remaining knots down to a position she could reach them. Not only did this put everything more or less at her fingertips, but it also gave her an increased level of mobility with her elbows being free to move as they pleased. Finding the closest knot, Amaya quickly and nimbly tugged it loose and she felt the end fall around her wrist. She was the majority of the way done, but it would still take some time as she felt her energy draining. It was undeniable that she would need a break soon.

Yae was almost jogging at this point. It was really more of a power walk. Either way she was trekking along. Victory was so close she could taste it, the bento. She couldn't remember ever having been so hungry. That wouldn't matter soon. The girl was poised to finish her laps. Running laps had been the least pleasant thing she had done in a long time, but now that she thought about it, she could vaguely remember thinking the same thing about ranged weapon training. Yae couldn't see herself doing this kind of training a whole lot in the near future, though deep down she realized that, realistically, she would probably have to. But that was something to worry about later. It certainly didn't matter now. All that mattered was the finish line. And food.

The world seemed to be spinning again. For a moment Yae felt like she was going to have to take yet another humiliating break. Suddenly it hit her. A second wind of sorts. She ran at full speed, blowing past her self-designated finish line. Yae put her arms up in the air as she arced and headed back toward the academy, feeling like the star runner of the academy. She put her arms down, but kept running all the way to the academy. The girl even ran down the hall. Now that she didn't actually have to, running didn't seem so bad. Once she reached the class door she stopped, and took a moment to compose herself while her empty tummy did a somersault.
