Ok, ninja, you dont do your own combat rolls, and you dont come up with the outcome your self. That's up to the gm, you do... no rolling.

Don't worry... Multiple Flags are on the play, check the main thread for details, edit your posts and we'll fix it up. All three of you need to edit.
And yes, orcs are not evil by nature, just more primitive and thats it, you may fight orcs in this in the EXACT SAME way that you've fought human bandits, pirates etc. because guess what? THOSE led that life of evil etc. by their own decisions.
Now, trolls WHICH YOU ARE FIGHTING RIGHT NOW, are by nature, VERY EVIL, they live only to eat, breed and kill for fun.
@ZeroM: I did no such thing eek My plot is shrouded in mystery still! Muahahahah!

The biggest problem about mis-identifying what you're fighting guys, is that you don't know what to expect, I know some of you might be posting in between classes or during a computer class, but try to read the post in detail and make some notes of the situation. This is kinda a learning game, a lot of people start out in a sort of "I cast / swing my sword" then work their way up to more diligent and specific actions.
Maybe pick up a copy or two of Forgotten Realms or Dungeons and Dragons universe books if you want a bit of creative ideas even.

I would say that the whole 'misidentifying' bit is not important because you don't know what to expect. In game, my character may never have seen a troll before, or be unable to identify orgres and trolls from each other.
Rather, misidentifying simply leads to confusion and misinformation....

Btw, zack; this is the OOC thread, no need for parentheses razz Also, You weren't in the lead carriage (the only one that was destroyed), you were further back in one of the other wagons, hence why I only rolled for Erron. This is the same source I use for all images for the RP. This is the closest image I could find to resemble a troll.

So trolls are usually common in most fantasy settings, so I can see why at least one of us would know to use fire. However, how will we know what our characters would know about other enemies they encounter. For instance, how much does Tjaden know about dragons or can he identify a basilisk by sight?

That's really up to you, as long as you have a valid reason for it.
i.e. "The people who raised me told me tales of xxxxx monsters in xxxxx environment."

Laren is a ranger and can thusly identify most monsters that can normally be found in the wilderness... Beings from other planes on the otherhand... well they all look the same to her lol. Oh well I guess thats why we have a wizard heh?
