I'm interested in this, but is the guild up, or at least under construction? I'm having a hard time sifting through this thread full of bumps for information. sweatdrop This is going to be in a separate guild, right?

This is a personal project, so I wouldn't dare use the Refuge as anything other than a sounding board. Abuse of authority/power is a concern of mine, and I do my best not to fall into that trap. As for the location, there is a guild up and running, and being proofread now. One of the last things I will do is sift through this thread for all relevant information and put it in the new guild in a FAQ thread. Thus far, I have not posted a link because I want it to be ready before unveiling.

Well I've got one nearly finished again and the other about half way there. Just a question though. Is there an age when the shifting powers manifest, or is from birth? If it is at a certain age, will they have known about the shifting community before that?

This has come up several times, so let me give a quick overview.
Shifters must remain in the form their pregnancy begins for the duration of the pregnancy. If a woman shifter is pregnant with a baby, and shifts to say a wolf during the pregnancy, the womb will radically change- and the resulting trauma will kill the unborn child. For that reason, shifters almost always remain in humanoid form while pregnant.
Shifter powers manifest first at age six, typically with one or two traits. Hair color, fangs, vestigial tail, or patches of skin changing at random are common. A child is able to fully shift to the midpoint during puberty, able to reach full animal sometime around 15.
There is no genetic knowledge regarding society. A child must be raised/taught the society just as any other child must learn of the society they live in.

Has it been decided what the empires/kingdoms are like culturally? And by culture, I more so mean clothing, architecture, ect., but it would good to know social behaviors as well.
Also, how far along are the nations technology-wise?

That's a good question.
So far this all seems very well thought out. And it should be, the length that this discussion has been going on.
Has anyone been taking note of all the decided factors, so when this project is ready it won't take forever going over all of this to pick out the facts?
This thread has been going for a while now, this is good because it shows that people have cared enough about this idea to keep asking questions and building on it for so long, but has their been an alloted time, or a estimate of when this project will get off the ground? The long waited before action is taken the less motivation will carry across when this is created.

Mosmoto: Technology is a bit of flux. Based on current tech, much of the world is still viable. What has changed is transportation and fuel source. Elecricity is still viable through the use of renewable resources, but without sea travel, oil is no longer a resource to be used world-wide. Combustion engines are out, meaning electric motors and other alternative methods like steampunk tech are the common levels. Computers are still viable as well, as is the internet. For now, at least. Countries can talk to one another- and even share ideas as commodities, but even with detailed plans, if you can't build it locally . . . you can't have it.
As for cultures . . . The mammals with the Taws Nations is a very chaotic group, based loosely upon the Native American tribes. Dozens, if not hundreds of various groups exist in the world, all following a hierarchy of elders and people of authority. All this wheedles down to more consolidated leaders- tribe elders to community. Community leaders to area. Area voices to Nation callers. Callers to the High King. As mammals are so diverse, each with their own style, this group is hard to get to agree on much, so leadership is quixotic at best.
For the Scutes, things are much simpler. Outlive your enemies by any means you need to. Most do it with brains, some with a bit of brawn. Their dominion is based on strength and intelligence. Have one, and you are okay. Have both, and you will go far. Challenges to authority are given openly if any advancement is to be made- but once a challenge is made, all rules are off. Some are as simple as a game of chess, others take more lethal routes. Think of a crime syndicate. Respect is earned and upheld through the right words . . . or a strong arm. Just imagine that with scales, fangs, and the cold calculating mind of a reptile.
The Chiton Empire is just that- a regal and almost deific affair. Those in charge all realize that they exist to serve the common good, and the greatest good is serving the Empress. She is the life, and the leadership of the empire and is known for opulence in living places. Not because of demans, but because the Chitons revere their Empress just shy of a goddess. Arachnids don't bother with much in the way of gifts, but are not opposed to offering silk spun from webbing and ornate cloth. Mostly done through spiders who know what side their bread is buttered. wink
Architecture is mostly human, given that such is how they can keep from being openly hunted on the streets. Taws have varied tastes and can range from a simple hut to the penthouse of a skyrise. All depends on the taste of the individual. Scutes prefer things to be clean and etched, most common is carved stone and stone surfaces. A tile floor, a marble countertop, a few statues here and there. Materials like wood and plaster are alright- but given the choice, Scutes love stonework. Chitons are suckers for detail . . . intricate designs in everything possible- enough to make a person dizzy with how much one has to look at. Of particular interest are Chinese and Celtic designs- given the intricacy and never-ending nature of the highly detailed art.
These people are part human, so everybody has their own taste.

TALons_wRist: yeah, this has been a long time coming. Still, I have it written out, and am waiting for my vice to give me a go-ahead. After that, I plan on skimming through this thread to make a FAQ for the guild, and then shall open it for business. I continue to encourage people to find those interested and branch out. While I am not afraid of furries, I just want all to come here, not just those that think this is faphaven. sweatdrop

That info was very helpful for completing my profiles. Thank you.
I still want to go over my characters and do some fine tuning before they're ready to be sent in, but I should be finished by the time it's opened.
