Shannon laughed as she drove away, up a faint path and parked infront of the house. The doctor seemed to be pulling up the drive and she hoped out.

Nanina finished with the stall and looked around. Everything seemed to be done, and her stomach growled. Lunch time. She muttered, walking out of the barn and towards the house.

Leaving Dancing Dolly in the pasture with B, he dusted his hands on his pants and lumbered up the front steps to the house. What's for lunch Shannon?

Roman had followed them back in a leisurely sort of way, and having wandered past the barn, found himself drawn in. He poked his head inside, found it empty, and wandered out to the paddocks instead. He wasn't particularly hungry, and just wanted to hang with the horses until someone told him how Ez was doing.

Esmeralda peeked out the truck window. "S'that her?" she mumbled sleepily to Shannon. She'd almost fallen asleep during the drive back to the house, which was weird since she never took naps, much less before noon. She put it down to a long drive and the sudden excitement.

Esmeralda yawned. "Mmh. 'Kay," she muttered. She felt kind of sick, and oddly dizzy still. Maybe she ought to just take a nap - it would prevent her from feeling whatever the doctor did if she felt she had to poke Esmeralda with sharp things. But no, she didn't want to get poked. "Tell her..." She yawned again as her eyes fluttered closed. "Tell her not to poke me with things."

Roman stood by the paddock fence, watching a few of the horses graze. A particularly large black one was looking back at him warily - seemed that it didn't much like people. Roman was perfectly content not to be the one to change its mind. There were friendlier horses that were already coming to the fence to inspect him for treats.

((OOC: Lol. I have decided that Phoenix will be like Czar, who despite being my baby is kind of a jerk.))

Once Phoenix had eaten Emily's apple, he jerked away from her, baring his teeth and pinning his ears back. Then he spun away and galloped towards the fence defiantly. His eyes locked on Roman with a challenge in them, and then he turned away again and ran down the fence.

Roman hastily climbed in and went towards Emily. Quietly, so as not to disturb any of the other horses, he asked her, "Are you okay? He didn't bite you, did he?" That horse annoyed him now - the girl had just been trying to be nice.

Roman shook his head. "You're just like my sister," he said. "I bet you think nothing can hurt you, don't you?" He looked over his shoulder at the black horse, who was grazing again as casually as if he hadn't just threatened to attack moments before. "I wonder what use Shannon would have for a horse like that on a work ranch," he mused. "I can't see what he would be good for if he won't let people near him. Breeding, maybe?"

Roman knew he'd hurt the girl's feelings, but didn't worry about it too much. Ez could be hurt emotionally and physically, too, but never seemed to think about it until it was too late - and the blonde seemed to be much the same way. Maybe disliking being compared to Ez would make her think twice before brazenly approaching dangerous animals. He wandered over to some other horses, giving the girl her space. Also, he had to choose a horse to work with these next few months.

He wondered how his sister was doing, and if the doctor had checked her yet. Patting a cute paint horse absently, he was startled by sudden warm breath on the back of his neck. He risked a glance out of the corner of his eye. The black horse was no longer grazing. Figuring that if ignoring the animal had gotten him that far, it might keep him from being bitten, he kept patting other horses who came to visit.

When at last he did turn around, Phoenix immediately trotted away and pretended immense interest in the grass. Roman was amused. "Playing hard to get, are you?" he murmured. "Well, fine. See if I care."
