The first portion of the task seemed to go along smoothly enough. With a steady tempo and eased breathing Tenma hardly realized what she was doing. There was no twinge of pain, no cramping sensation, there wasn't even that difficulty of breathing that often came with lowering one's chest so far. Up, down, three, up, down, four: refusing to let her pace be broken the child kept moving, her soft palms pressing into the scarred wooden floor beneath her every time she lifted herself.

As the child continued the motion of lowering and picking herself back up there was a slight twinge in her side where Rhiam had struck her earlier that day. With a slight smile Tenma pushed through this little twinge, knowing that there were pains far greater just waiting for her. Up, down, five, up, down, six: her pace was strong and her breathing was even as she continued through the task. With how much energy she still had left Tenma knew that this task shouldn't be too much of a problem.

As the girl lifted herself again she winced slightly at the stabbing pain in her side. At first she had figured that the pain would fade gradually as she worked through it, but it was just the opposite. Reaching the top of her lift she found herself holding to take in a breath. After a quick shake of her head to rid her mind of the sensation Tenma lowered herself back down to the floor. Up, breath, down, seven, up, down, eight: with the sharp pain it was becoming more and more difficult to focus on the task at hand.

Another struggled push came after the last as the pain continued to intensify. It was truly obnoxious and she would have to remember to give Rhiam a hard time about it. Oh well, this is what would happen in a fight some time and she would have to be ready to push through it some how. A sudden revelation and the child smirked going into another push up. Not only was she training her body but she was also training her mind to work through the pain. With a mini shot of excitement induced adrenaline Tenma made sure to stay with her pace and not to let herself fall behind: up, down, nine, up, down, ten.

To her thrilled delight the small dose of adrenaline had actually numbed the pain slightly, renewing the sense of ease that she had been feeling at the beginning of her task. Her arms still felt strong and her back was unbreakable tense in an attempt to stay perfectly flat. However, visually this feeling was countered by the sweat forming across her brow and the clumps of hair falling along side her eyes. Taking in a deep breath at the top of her fully extended arms Tenma could feel the slight strain on her lungs as she continued. Up, down, eleven, up, down, twelve.

Minoru wandered in, still bristling about the encounter with the Hyuuga. Such people must cause the entire clan shame. It didn't really matter in Minoru's world though, aftet all it wasn't like their personal workings mattered all that much. Ignoring his uncle, who had begun chastising him for being home so late, Minoru went upstaris to do a little bit of last minute training for the day. Sure it could cause him to break himself down before the exams, but it didn't matter to much to Minoru. No pain, no gain. And yet he decided to avoid physical training for now. He decided instead to work on his charismatic abilities. For what he wanted to do he would need a strong voice, and so he got ready to teach himself, of all things, how to sing. It was after all, the best way to train your vocal cords without breaking them all in the process.

16-1 = 15 Pass

Minoru seemed to be able to hit the notes flawlessly as he went from soprano to baritone as easily as he had walked through the cool night air just minutes before. It was nice to get something on the first try for once. Now he decided to try switching between the two extremes quickly, to see if he would be able to get through the sudden transition without breaking his voice to badly. It wasn't exactly prudent to try to strain your voice when it wasn't used to singing. It was like trying to teach someone to swim by throwing them into quicksand. They might learn to swim, or they might end up never going near water again. There was a fine line between the two, not that many people paid attention to it anyone. Going big or going home was the mentality of many ninja, but Minoru would rather take apart an enemy piece by piece before going in for the kill. It was better that way, and less dangerous.

2-1 = 1 FAIL

Just as Minoru tried to go from low to high, his voice cracked and he started coughing. It turned out that cracking your voice was in fact, painful. Not as painful as getting punched in the face by Conan, but still it hurt a good bit. Regardless Minoru decided to try again, this time hitting the high notes first and then going lower. It might turn out to be easier than before, or it could crack his voice again. In truth there was only one way to find out and that was by trying it. With any luck he wouldn't fail so epically this second time around... and if he did Minoru hoped he wouldn't lose his voice from this experiment. Granted it was something he had to come to terms with, but he dreaded the thought of going to the genin exams without a voice.

With the continuous strain on her legs, which were not only keeping her planted on the floor but they were also assisting in keeping her back straight, a small cramp began to form in her left calf. It was a small pain but Tenma knew that it was more likely than not that the knot would continue to tighten and grow. This would give her something new to work through but there was still mild pain in her side, which added to everything. Up, down, thirteen, up, down, fourteen: the irreplacable function of this particular task would be her new found ability to work through a variety of different pains.

Maintaining her steady breathing pattern and her insistant pace Tenma found it actually helping the knot in her calf. In an attempt to completely relieve herself of the pain she would push forward on her toes as she reached the top of her arms and then she would settle back when she started down. Hopefully the motion would help to loosen her muscles and ease the pain of the slightly painful cramp. This new motion she was trying was having an unfortunate effect on her breathing as she found her chest tightening when she pushed her toes down. Up, down, fifteen, up, down, sixteen: her pace was constant and even.

The flexing and releasing motion of her legs eventually rid the child of her cramp to the point she stopped the movement entirely. Once she had taken out the extra shifting from her excercise she found her breathing return to its normal, unstrained, habit. Now that her body was, minus her side, lacking in pain of straining Tenma again felt energized. As this assignment was going to easy she began to quicken her pace slightly because she wanted to fit in as many push-ups as possible. Up, down, seventeen, up, down, eighteen, up, down, ninteen: Tenma's pace quickened as a smile spread across her face. This was the excercise for her.

The smile on Tenma's face held fast as her pace continued. With this slight surge in energy and the quickened pace she felt small beads of sweat trickle down from her brow, along her cheek, and to the tip of her chin. The next time she lifted herself the child tucked her chin to her tee, wiping of the sweat that gravity was gathering there. Up, down, twenty, up, down, twenty-one, up, down, twenty-two: at this point Tenma felt like there was nothing that could stop her.

With the continuation of her task Tenma could feel heat leaving her body as she continued to sweat. Making a mental note she knew she would have to rehydrate after this task simply because she was working up a sweat. Taking in a deep breath she continued to smile, physical activity always made her happy and this was no exception. Still sweat continued to form on her brow and occassionally she would tuck her chin to wipe off the sweat. Up, down, twenty-three, up, down, twenty-four, up, down, twenty-five: every motion brought her closer and closer to her goal.

As fate would have it the child thought a little too soon. When Tenma lowered herself to the ground she realized something, her nose never touched the wooden floor. Cursing herself in her head she knew her form had suddenly become sloppy. Taking a second's pause she double checked her posture, making sure she wasn't letting her back bend or her hands turn as they shouldn't. Content in her modifications Tenma continued, emphasizing her nose touching the wood before raising herself back up: up, down, twenty-six, up, down, twenty-seven, up, down, twenty-eight.

The unfortunately pause Tenma had taken in order to correct her form kept her legs tense too long and, as a consequence, she felt her left leg knot up again. Sighing she shook her head, somehow she just couldn't win against that cramp. As the child had done the time before she put the muscles of her legs into motion with her push-up. Tenma pushed up on her toes every time she peaked and let her balls of her feet go flat as she lowered herself. With a unsure mind she figured if this motion had worked once it would work again. Up, down, twenty-nine, up, down, thirty, up, down, thirty-one: this was just another obstacle she would have to work through.
