Kaoru felt them recoil of his failed block. He couldn't do anything with this pathetic hunk of wood in his hands. He turned to Hamma and yelled out, "Give us something better to use then this log, it's cumbersome and way to long to be of any use!!" Kaoru took his staff and tossed in forcefully into the water and smirked. "Besides, there's no fun if there's no real risk!" Kaoru quickly added. He took a few steps back, and crossed his arms. Out of the corner of his eye, Kaoru watched the newcomer to the training. He'd have to observe this one too, in case he was also a viable ally.

Ryouta swung through Kaoru's legs and even though he reacted quickly, he was knocked off balance. Ryouta then watched as his opponent threw his staff and heard him yell at Hamma. Ryouta listened...A challenge eh? Sounds way more fun than this anyways... With that, Ryouta threw his staff down as well. "Agreed...Training is training right? The risk just adds to it all." he said to the blacksmith. Ryouta then turned to his advisory. He is strong as well. It would be in my best interest to make him an ally rather than enemy. "My name is Yamashiro Ryouta, and however short that was, it was quite fun. It would be a pleasure to train with you some more." And with that, Ryouta took a leap backwards and landed in the soft sand. He then stood and waited for Hamma's response.

(Sorry if it seems I am attacking your character it isn't like that. I promise)

Hamma paused from Kane and the lad that had just entered and turned to the boy who spoke of staffs as cumbersome. He walked to the boy his footsteps causing tremors in the earth. Picking the boy up by his collar he looked him in the eye and spoke loudly and with fury. "No lad, that staff is not cumbersome you are nothing but a peon on the face of this island. I have seen men wipe out entire arms with nothing more then wire and you think this staff is of no use. I have seen men rule nations with staffs more cumbersome then that. You are nothing you want something that will give you risk you came to the right island. You however are not ready with a mind like that. This island will grind your bones to dust and blow you into the ocean breeze. Here we do not breed babies. We breed shinobi and you are not worthy of such a title with an outlook like that. Pick up that staff lad and fight. That was the task set before you. Risk you will get as you learn to be apart of this home. Never disgrace this island with such nonsense. Men have died to keep risk from this island and only for it to come again and again. Do not disrespect those who have fallen to keep this refugee what it is. I will not let you." Hamma dropped the boy and turned away from him. "You as well lad must learn as he. We train here for war. We train lads into men. We are not here for your enjoyment if you think risk is what you want find Shinichi-sama and have him give you risk. The blood demon of shimagakure will give you all the risk you seek." Hamma's blood was on fire and it should as his face was reder then the blood on the fields of battle he had once been apart of. "Come you two show me the fire of the shinobi, show me the passion of battle."

Kaoru remained with his eyes in indifferent narrow slits, as Hamma let him go. He slightly brushed his cuirass, and flattened it back up. Kaoru wasn't intimidated by large people, neither was he intimidated by empty threats. He smirked in Hamma's direction, but decided to not to start anything and just follow his orders. Kaoru started off down the beach, back towards Shimagakure. He figured he might as well start with the Clinic, where he actually knew someone. "Oh yeah, Ryouta-san, let's go," Kaoru added as he walked on. This new ally may prove to be a very good choice.

Ryouta stood there, astonished at what just happened. Why would someone get so offended at such a simple request? Obviously, Kaoru nor I are proficient with such a weapon and a little risk wasn't too much to ask for. Ah well, I shall have to make sure to stay on Hamma's good side...Seems a bit short tempered... Then, with a quick bow, Ryouta quickly went and grabbed the two staffs from the ground and ran after Kaoru. "Goodbye Hamma, goodbye Kane, see you around sometime!" he shouted to them as he ran from the beach. "Hey Kauro! Wait up!"

Z grimmaced as he reached the shorline. Being bedridden for three days had done unpleasant things to his ability to see in the light. He had felt a bit better today and was far to afraid of falling behind the others to stay home for any longer. He had heard that the academy students had congregated at the beach so that is where he went. After adjusting to the light he saw the adult in the group, someone he had not yet met. He approached slightly wary. "Um, I was sick. What are we supposed to be doing?" He asked not sure what the teachers reaction would be. There were some crazy adults in this town and one could never be to careful.

Manuke grabbed a staff and held it awkwardly in his hands. This could be bad.... he thought. He stared blankly at the weapon then looked at the blacksmith. "Just tell me when I should start." he said. Although he did not know anything about weapons, he raised his staff, ready to attack. He dug his feet into the sand, waiting for the blacksmith with anticipation. "Let's see what I can do!" he said as the smile finally returned to his face.

[sorry for not being here sweatdrop i back now ;D""]

Oh, dear, Kane thought as the two boys riled Hamma up. But he also felt a strange feeling in his heart as he listened to Hamma's impassioned words. Like most shinobi of the village Kane had also experienced a personal loss that haunted him to this day and he could clearly distinguish the person he was before that from the person he was now. These kids, they reminded him of the him of before. Gritting his teeth and his eyes going a little sharp, Kane couldn't help but listen to the rest of Hamma's speech. He nodded goodbye to Ryouta, sending him a grin as he left, but just grimly thinking of the way it might happen to him too. When it eventually did.

The cool rough wood in his fingers brought him back to his current task. It was nearing midday or maybe noon had already arrived, kane wasn't sure. The sun was up which made the freezing day more bearable. Twirling the bokken to get it to a position which felt right in his hands he steeled his nerves before running in again. Although Kane knew that Hamma was a good man it was still damned freaky attacking a bulky man double his size.

Kane's hesitation cost him. His full attention was on Hamma now and he was (unintentionally) all but ignoring Manuke. Kane would have to work on his attention problems when he got more proficient with the sword. But for now, it would do him better to just focus on technique. After being resisted again Kane realised that he was relying too much on the brute force approach. He needed to incorporate feints and false moves into his arsenal. After all, wasn't the dao a weapon for agility? It would make sense that dao users would dance around, almost like butterflies. Actually, butterfly was a good image and analogy. Kane tried to visualise the erratic, loopy and ultimately light movements of the butterfly as he moved, waiting for the right moment to strike Hamma. It was then that he noticed Manuke, and felt a bit relieved, because Hamma would have his attention occupied more now. Resting on the balls of his feet to allow for swift takeoff, Kane struck... or did he? It was a fake!

The fake failed. Kane did not have time to go over why at the moment as he was too occupied with evading the counterattack, but once he was safely out of range he began to ponder. Was it because he'd taken too long? Or did it too quickly? Hide had told him once that human reaction time was like, half a second so he needed to give his opponent time to see him. Or maybe he just couldn't act. Hamma was no fool after all and maybe it was really obvious when he was faking. He'd just have to practice those, then, because Kane felt fake movements were an effective way of diverting the opponent's attention, which someone weak and not exactly that fast, yet, like Kane, exactly wanted to do.

Taking a deep breath, Kane remembered how successful his first attempt had been and attempted to replicate that. He was beginning to feel the first vestiges of fatigue but refused to let it get to him. He was nowhere near done yet. Holding his bokken with one hand and holding his other hand in a way that allowed for minimum air resistance, Kane ran towards Hamma again. But instead of charge straight on like a knight with a lance at a mass of soldiers, Kane ducked at the last minute, attempting to get Hamma with a blow to the legs.

Hamma was almost preoccupied blocking away Kane's attacks to notice the two boys who where waiting for his words, but when Kane showed the one spark of a true Shinobi. When he did not charge head on but he used his skill and mind. "Good Kane, Ye have skill with that sword. There are many paths to becoming a shinobi, it just depends on what kind of shinobi you want to be. Remember that lad." Putting a hand up to Kane the jolly giant turned to Z. Looking him up and down he had a strange feeling he knew this lad. Smiling he stroked his beard before explaining to the lad what to do. "Well laddie pick ye up a staff and you will be sparring against Manuke. It aint fair for you boys to be held at the same standard as Kane here. He has been training a lot longer then ya both. Now be careful with your strikes. Kumiko doesn't want to be patching you two up." Hamma smiled before turning back to Kane. Spinning the staff he cracked the boy lightly on the skull. "Come on boy'oh no hesitation, but plan your moves to be prepared. Your a human playing as a god. Play the part better then that."

Z winced slightly at Hamma's accent. "Very well." He said with a sigh as he grasped one of the staffs. He wished the practicing had been using smaller weapons, longer ones put a strain on his concentration. "So, um, you can go first." Z said as he turned to the boy he would be dueling. He thought it might be easier to defend than to attack for now.

So I'm going against someone that's as inexperienced as me? He paused for a bit and then smiled with joy. "I'm Tsutomegi Manuke!" he said, "Nice to meet ya!" Manuke sprang up and with a good heave, lifted his staff up and swung it down towards Z. As he attacked, he felt the desire to show everyone that he was strong. This desire burned in him and gave him the energy to move forward.

(o.o)

Z held in a sigh at the exclamation. Why in the heck did everyone have to be so happy all the time. Between this kid, Kiba and Tanu there didn't seem to be enough joy left for anyone else. "I'm Z." He said simply, not trying to start to much of a conversation. He attempted to bring the staff up to block the heavy attack but majorly underestimated the weight of the staff it hit him on the shoulder. He could tell it would bruise. He held in a squeak.

Manuke gave a sigh of relief that his attack got through. "Okay, now you come at me Z!" he said. Manuke braced himself for Z's attack.
