Kasiya bit her bottom lip and stared at the ground, wishing she could block out Keegan's words. He didn't have to tell her it would be dangerous, or how badly she could be hurt, or that they would probably be fighting more people than Pokemon. He didn't need to compare it to what Slateport had been like, and she shivered, trying her hardest to not let her mind focus on those memories. And no, she wasn't sure she could handle it at all; in fact, she wished she had more time to prepare herself for it, but that wasn't going to be the case. They were only hours away from beginning this assault, and here Keegan was, undermining what little confidence she had managed to build up, even if he wasn't meaning to. And yes, he was underestimating her, thinking she'd get hurt or worse, and she didn't have to be a psychic to know what he was going to say next. Tears stung her eyes and she nodded meekly. She understood his worries; she truly did, but nothing he could say would change her mind about going.

"I know," she said finally, her bottom lip quivering. She'd wrapped both arms around herself tightly as it was the only way she could keep from trembling all over. "Trust me, I'm not looking forward to it, but I'm going. You probably don't understand it, but he needs me. I made a promise, Keegan, and I can't go back on it. Not now. Not when he needs me the most. He needs all of us, even you. I know how dangerous this is gonna be, and so help me, if I have to use my Pokemon against them, I will." She sniffled a little, and wiped her eyes. "I appreciate your concern," she said, only able to manage a weak smile. "I will be careful. I will promise that, but only if you promise to be careful too. This thing goes two ways, you know. If something bad happened to you, I would be very cranky about it." She sniffled again and walked up to him, pretending to be interested in his shoes. "So, I'll be careful if you're careful. Sound fair?"

Turtwig quickly learned not to underestimate Bidoof's Rollout speed as she quickly gained more and more momentum, and her second pass hit him a little harder than the first had. The Tiny Leaf Pokemon was knocked back further than before too, and he had more difficulty getting back to his feet. It was his turn to attack on his own though, as he felt some retribution was in order. The leaves on his head began to glow a bright green before several faint orbs went racing towards Bidoof, each slamming into her and vanishing before they reappeared again, glowing with a bright, healthy green as they returned to Turtwig in a refreshing burst.

This didn't stop Bidoof's Rollout, and she continued on her course to strike the obnoxious Grass-type again, but the re-energized Turtwig was able to dodge this time around. Bidoof skidded to a stop, her beady little eyes narrowed in anger at her teammate. Turtwig seemed to be getting into the battle as well, as for once he was looking less than pleased with the situation. He reared back and let another Razor Leaf fly, but it was Bidoof's turn to dodge, and she nimbly avoided every sharp little leaf with a very nice Quick Attack.

Allegra looked up at her new trainer with a quizzical expression. Evolve? She'd honestly never thought much about it. Instead she remembered something that she hoped never to remember again: her past trainer, Rick. If he wanted her to evolve, then he would've done it without asking. Her opinion wouldn't matter in the slightest. Remembering this bad, bad man suddenly made Allegra very nervous, and she resorted to curling up on the spot.

But...Kasiya had rescued her. She had shown that people can be nice too. And this new trainer, Ryka, seemed just as nice. Why would she ask about evolving if she wasn't, after all? This sent a new urge of emotion surging into the Skitty; a need to protect Ryka, Kasiya, all those trainers who really cared about their Pokemon. If evolving meant that she could better protect them, then she was ready for it. If she could help Ryka by evolving, then she would. Standing up in a pose of determination, the Skitty let out a very reassuring purr.

Ryka's smiled turned into a grin. She could tell that something had changed in this Skitty, as her determination was spreading unto Ryka as well. "Are you sure? You don't have to if you don't want to." But Allegra's head shook wildly, as if she screamed Yes! I want to! Bending down to pick up the cat Pokemon, Ryka replied, "All right then." She stroked the cat's back, who purred in reply. "Let's do this appeal!"

Somewhat satisfied with Robins answer Black*Star gathered things into piles while Robin put the shelf upright again. The two of them sat there for a while just putting stuff back on the shelf. Eventually though Black*Star got bored and decided to wonder off. The store was pretty boring but there was the cashier he could impress with his awesomeness! Looking up at the counter from the ground Black*Star noticed that there was no one there now. Curious the Totodile jumped up onto the counter and glanced down to see if they were hiding behind it. Nope. No one was in the store other then Robin and him. Hmm, well that wasn't very fun! Maybe there was something cool behind here?

Going back down to the floor the Totodile started to rifle through all of the drawers looking for anything that was interesting. It wasn't until the last drawer that he hit the jackpot. It was full of crowns! Since he was the king Black*Star started to search through the box until he found the biggest and best looking one. Placing it on his head he headed back to Robin to show her his prize and how cool he looked. The girl was just about finishing up putting the last of the items back on the shelf when Black*Star approached the redhead. Tapping her leg and posing the Totodile waited for his praise on how cool he looked. Instead all he got was Robin letting out a surprised cry again and knocking her arm back and hitting all the stuff for another of the shelves back onto the floor.

"Black*Star! Stop scaring me!" Robin pouted not looking down at the Totodile to even praise him! How could she ignore his greatness? Instead all she did was go back to putting things on the shelves. She didn't work here and she had to pay attention to him! Pouting Black*Star sat down on the floor and waited patiently for her to finish playing shopkeeper. When she finally did finish up she gave the Totodile an annoyed look. Why was she mad at him? Still thought Robin couldn't really stay mad for very long, it just wasn't in her nature.

"Ok we need to find that Royal Rock thing." She muttered picking up Black*Star and after a moments hesitation the TM he had been waving around to. "Don't knock anything else down ok?" She muttered as she went back to looking. Maybe she should ask the shopkeeper? Where was he anyway?

Calistra wasn't letting up the furious attack on the mocking sneasel. As soon as she let up her fury attack the stinger glowed a sickly pale pink, and she thrust forward in a poison sting attack. Her other stinger pulled back to press the assault further, pumping back and forth in successive twin needle attacks.

"I don't think it wise for, Ikouma, to taunt a beedrill," Venerax said with a slight frown. "I mean that's how I caught her and all, but I mean I don't think I would ever want a repeat performance of it. I was just really desperate for the honey."

Riza had leaned her head back and closer her eyes, her thoughts swirling around inside her mind. She was only aware of the warm Quilava stretched out in her lap, and she mindlessly rubbed the Pokemon's belly, opening her eyes only when she heard a familiar voice from nearby. "I think she is comfortable," she answered, looking up at Crenu with a soft smile. "And yes, our training has been quite, rewarding," she said, choosing her answers carefully. At first she had been very excited about the two very sudden evolutions of her Kirlia and Corphish, but she quickly decided against telling him right now. He'd find out soon enough anyway. "How is your training coming along?" she asked, looking down at Eris as she flipped back onto her feet and gazed up at Crenu, her ears twitching. "And are you ready for the contest tonight?"

With a heart beat that was beginning to return to normal, Akane and Twinkers pressed on into the gloomy forest. It was getting late and even after having a good 6 hour nap the 13 year old was starting to feel a little tired. She was starting to wonder if she would ever find what she came for, or even find her way back again, when all of a sudden a happy looking Oddish danced its way along the "path", its leaves swaying back and forwards in the moonlight as it scattered pollen. It seemed not to have noticed Akane and Twinkers ahead of it as it continued dancing along the path with its eyes closed.

Akane had an idea. Very carefully she retrieved and enlarged a Pokeball in her right hand, got down on one knee and held the pokeball out ready for the dancing Weed Pokemon to waltz right into it. Twinkers looked at her trainer quizzically, head cocked to one side as if asking the question "Are you serious?"

The Oddish continued on merrily until it got withing about three feet of the Pokeball. It stopped dancing and gazed up at Akane, spared a glance at Twinkers, looked back at Akane. The young girl smiled at the Oddish, partly reassuringly and partly in embarrassment. Twinkers looked from Akane to the Oddish and back again before turning on the charm and smiling at the Weed Pokemon.

The three stayed as they were for a while before the Oddish ran forwards happily and jumped into the still outstretched Pokeball, got caught in the red light it emitted as it opened and got sucked into the red and white ball. The Pokeball didn't even wiggle and the light shone bright with the chiming ding signaling that the Pokemon had been "caught".

"Well, that must've been the easiest capture in history" Akane said to Twinkers when all was done, "though, I suppose that Oddish chose us rather than the other way around."

Crenu watched Riza closely, only making a quick glance at her Quilava when she flipped over to her feet. Eris looked more like a house pet than a battle partner right now, but given the chance perhaps some pokemon could perform both roles. Still it was kind of hard to imagine a Typhlosion acting the way Eris did now, that's probably why some people have their pokemon hold ever stones. Crenu got out of his own thoughts just in time for Riza to finish answering him and asking him the same question, cocking an eyebrow as he looked at her. That was a wonderfully vague answer. He thought as he took a seat next to her. Mere hours before a contest where they would both be competing though, it did make sense to hold back some information. "My pokemon have made a little progress, though not nearly enough to satisfy." He said truthfully, nothing of particular interest happened during his training and he wasn't even close to happy with the progress they had made so far. Taking Poliwhirl's pokeball from his belt, Crenu examined it for a moment as he balanced it on his finger tip. Any sort of motion with either of his now damaged hands caused discomfort and pain, but by now Crenu had learned to ignore it and keep his poker face on despite the increasing pain. "Not quite. I need to heal my pokemon, but I can't go into the center just yet." He knew Riza would ask and after what happened the day before Crenu decided to simply be honest. "I broke the mirror in my room last night and bled all over the floor and sheets. That's why my left hand is bandaged up as well, in case you were wondering. In short, I left the room a mess without telling anyone because it would have been a hassle to deal with it then and now. By now Joy is sure to have noticed and I'm sure she'll remember me if I go in there. I can't enter the contest without healing this pokemon, but I can't walk in there to get it healed without having to answer for the mess. I'm in a bit of a predicament." He said, staring at the ball perfectly balanced on his finger tip.

Keegan had already known that there would be no way to change Kasiya's mind about accompanying them on their mission, but at least she was aware of the dangers they were willingly putting themselves into. He couldn't help but crack a smile at her last comments, and he nodded. "Yeah, that sounds reasonable enough," he said, wincing slightly on the inside. He wasn't sure how careful he could be once they were in there, though he wasn't about to admit that part out loud, even if he was touched that she would worry about him. He replayed her words in his head, not entirely sure she was capable of using her Pokemon against would-be attackers, as even if it were self-defense there was a chance she could have her trainer's license revoked. He looked over his shoulder at the Pokemon Center, then back down at the blonde girl again. Needless to say, their little side-trip to the mansion had been quite interesting, and they'd both gotten a new Pokemon out of it.

He patted the Great Ball nestled safely in his pocket, thinking back to the moments before he and Shiva had fallen through the floor. The Sealeo seemed more energetic than usual, and that was saying something for the ever-happy Shiva. Hmm, I wonder, he thought, now tapping her PokeBall as he continued to look at Kasiya. "Not to change the subject, but I've got a funny feeling about Shiva," he said, now unhooking her PokeBall. "I know it's late, but do you wanna have a quick battle? I just want to test a theory."

For the most part, Miharu slept quite soundly. Her dreams were dark and hazy, though all she could remember about them was running. She didn't know what she was running from, but she was trembling when she opened her eyes. It didn't help that the first thing she saw when she awoke was a pair of crimson eyes hovering only inches from her face, and she let out a small squeak of fright and scrambled back, only to realize a second later it was her Metang. "Tingle, you scared me," she grumbled, having forgotten that she'd let it stay out of its PokeBall. Tingle hummed happily upon seeing that its trainer was awake and promptly showed her the correct time with its hands.

It was still very early, which wasn't surprising as she'd always been a morning person. She showered and got dressed before tidying the room and returning the key to the front desk. She looked around the lobby, wondering if Sam was up yet before she headed for the cafeteria for breakfast.

Both Riza and Eris' gazes flickered over to the poke ball that Crenu balanced on his fingertip. She wanted to reassure him that this was only their first contest, and that it wouldn't be the end of the world if they weren't fully ready, but before she could say anything else he'd continued to speak, causing the raven haired girl to raise an eyebrow. "You broke a mirror?" she asked, now looking at his bandaged hand, and she sighed. "You need that Pokemon healed, and you can't go in there because you're afraid the nurse will recognize you, and you'll get in trouble for the mess you made?" she repeated, a bit incredulously. She wanted to ask him why he wasn't taking responsibility for his actions, but she decided against it, still staring at the bandages on his hand. "I suppose you want me to go in there and get your Pokemon healed for you?" she asked, making an intuitive leap as to what he would ask next.

Sam slept like a rock. Her dreams resembled an acid trip, and she couldn't remember anything beyond vague swirling color bubbles and hazy, indistinct faces. While sleeping, she got out of bed, and stumbled to the door. She went outside, her hair tousled and eyes closed. Bumping into chairs and tables along the way, she sleepwalked over to the cafeteria before plopping down in a chair at a random table. Her eyes slowly opened finally, but her eyes were glassy and unfocused. She saw nothing except darkness, still stuck in Dreamland. She began mumbling nonsensical words. Sam didn't have these sleepwalking episodes often, but when she did, it didn't end well very often. She had once woken up to find herself in the middle of the ocean. Another time, she had found herself in the police station reciting a list of crimes. She was lucky enough that, in Cianwood, everyone knew who each other, and so they were kind enough to wake her and help her out. That wasn't the case here in Azalea.

Sam continued to gaze off into the distance, mumbling. Several patrons began to wonder whether this girl was completely sane and moved away from her.

Back in Sam's room, Star's Pokeball began to wiggle, Star attempting to break free, sensing her Trainer was doing something incredibly stupid and humiliating. Star needed to rescue her.

"Actually..." Crenu said rather dully as he looked from the pokeball to her, ignoring her summation of the situation. "That thought hadn't crossed my mind. I was still devising the best way to disguise myself so that I may carry out this task myself. But with no materials it was proving to be a rather taxing puzzle. Honestly Riza I thought you'd know me better by now." He said as he tossed the pokeball up into the air from his finger tip, clasping it tightly within his palm when it came back down keeping his eyes locked onto hers the entire time. "Asking for help is the last thing on my mind." But as Crenu stared her down his gaze softened a bit as he started thinking about the night before and about everything she had said to him. About how carrying the weight of the world on his own was unwise and sharing his burdens wasn't a show of weakness. He was sure she was talking about deeper and more important things than a simple errand like this but that didn't make her point any less valid. As he looked at her a little smile cracked the corner of his mouth as he spoke. Damn, valid or not this didn't make it any easier. "But I suppose that would be easier than making a disguise out of thin air. I know it's not the breakthrough you've been hoping for, but do you think...you...could help me out this once?" Crenu said that last bit a little fast, not at all liking the idea of asking anyone for help. Even Riza. But this was the easiest way to accomplish the task at hand, and logic made the decision for him. Having said that he held the pokeball out, not at her particularly, looking away and to the ground. "Please." That actually burned a little. Still, the small smile at the corner of his mouth didn't go away.

"So let's get started." Mike said, brushing off Milo, who was trying once again to get too personal. He sat down on the rocks, folding his legs in.

With what? asked the mushroom-like Pokemon.

"That meditation s**t you do." Mike asked, waving his arms in frustration. "I dunno, I figured we could like, sit in silence and just like, concentrate on each other, I guess."

"Hahahaha!" Milo laughed. "This is too great."

"Shut up Milo!" Mike yelled.

Master! Portabello jumped in surprise at Mike's sudden outburst.

"I'm sorry. I'll be quiet. After all, I wouldn't want to miss this. As soon as that mushroom connects with us, his head is going to pop, I just know it! Hahaha!"

"He'll do no such thing!" Mike replied.

I'll do no such-?

"You've got hundreds in here!" Milo said. "I'm amazed it didn't kill the blue-haired girl when she dove in. Hell, it almost did!" If Milo had any say in it, he would have tossed the convulsing girl into the volcano. Oops, she fell. Lava can be so unforgiving. "What can a mere Pokemon, one not normally gifted with telepathy, hope to accomplish but a trip to the grave. You'll overload him. You'll kill him."

"I will not! He's stronger than that!" Mike looked at Portabello, his eyes filled with anger. "I know he is!" The boy reached out and grabbed the air around Milo, and the shadow only laughed and faded, appearing once again on the other side of the boy.

"Just do it. I want to see this." he said with a widening smile.

"You ready, P.B.?" Mike asked, trying to ignore the phantom beside him.

Y-yes, Master. replied Portabello. He shook off his feelings of nervousness and settled down. Alright. First, you must close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Mike did so. Try to block everything around you out. Visualize the space around you like you would if your eyes were open. Concentrate. A world of silence. Just you and myself. The Breloom spoke in a calm manner, his almost featureless face hiding the growing pain in his head.

Visualize? That should be easy. His mind was great at providing many unwanted visual and auditory projections, but voluntary? That's another story. His mind never did what he wanted. Mike took in a deep breath, still tense from Milo's obvious presence beside him. He didn't need to have his eyes open to know that the shadow was right in front of him, staring at him with his pupil-less, bright glowing eyes. It was like someone was pointing a flashlight in his face. Mike turned his face away, slamming his eyes shut even harder. Milo smiled.

The void inside Mike's head was anything but. When Mike shut his eyes, something other than Cinnabar Island's volcano rim appeared in front of him. Before the boy lie a valley. It was desolate, barren, empty. Mike stood before a vast canyon, suspended in the air above it. It was a dull grey-brown, like an old silent movie. There was no vegetation, not a trace. Mike heard a sound below him and looked down. The ground began to shift. Dirt churned as something beneath stirred. A black hand burst from the ground. Its shape was much like Milo's, but less sharp and menacing. It looked more human. A form pulled itself from the ground, like a corpse from a grave. It was missing its right arm. Mike pulled his right hand to his mouth as he watched the ghost turn to him. A single white orb adorned its face. It wasn't just missing its right arm, it was missing its entire right side. Mike's eyes widened as more and more shadows tore themselves free from the ground, all with similar disfigurements. Some were missing parts, some smoldered. Some wore snorkels, helmets, police caps, even Magma and Aqua uniforms were outlined in the blackness of the phantoms. Mike let out a terrible scream as he felt himself lose his grip on whatever force was keeping him into the air. He began to fall down to the ground. Right into the arms of the waiting ghosts. Mike closed his eyes and awaited for the inevitable.

But it never came.

Master! Mike felt a clawed hand grab him, stopping the boy just inches above the reaching ghosts. Mike looked up to find a familiar figure, Portabello, glowing a dim green, holding on with all his might. You must pull yourself up! I cannot do this alone! The Breloom paid no attention to the horrors around him. They didn't matter. All that mattered was his Master's safety. Come on now! Pull!

Mike screamed and pulled with every bit of his strength. A ghost reached out and grabbed the boy by his leg. "Aggh!" the boy screamed, letting go with one hand and shooting a stream of flame at the offending hand. "GET OFF OF ME! GET OFF!"

Master! Portabello felt his grip loosening, and grabbed the boy with his other hand. You must pull!

Still fixated on the ghosts below, Mike saw a light begin to shine from beneath them. The phantoms parted to reveal Milo, who rose above the other shadows. His eyes were trained on Mike.

"Hn-hn-hn-hn-hn-hn!" he laughed. "You can't stop thinking about me, can you?" Milo reared back a clawed hand and swung. Mike kicked in the air, barely dodging out of the way. He screamed in terror, to which Milo could only laugh.

Come on Master! Portabello pleaded, his voice strained. Purple sweat poured from his head. You mustn't let him keep you thinking about the past! You cannot let him have control over you!

Mike frantically reached up and grabbed Portabello's red clawed hands and pulled. Milo swung once again, but hit only air.

There was a blinding flash of light, and Mike opened his eyes.

Riza had almost winced the moment Crenu had started speaking, sure this would quickly turn into one of their usual conversations of how asking for help was showing weakness and all that other stuff Crenu liked to boast, and at first it seemed that way, too, but then he cracked a small smile, and Riza relaxed slightly, still stroking Eris' velvety smooth fur. "Well, it's not a major breakthrough, but it's a breakthrough nevertheless," she replied, beaming up at him. She couldn't explain it, but she somehow almost felt...special when he asked for help, even if it was for something small. Eris looked back and forth between the two humans a couple of times before her gaze came to rest on the poke ball in Crenu's outstretched hand. She made a cute noise and her eyes began to glow with a bluish aura as she reached out with her Extrasensory ability and grabbed the red and white sphere from Crenu's hand. It levitated on the spot for a few moments before it gently floated over to Riza, that same blue aura outlining the ball. "That's not quite what I meant by getting the hang of Extrasensory, but it's a start," Riza giggled, taking the ball and standing up, causing the Quilava to jump down to the bench. "Okay then. Shiro, please keep an eye on Eris for me. Eris, you behave," she told the Quilava specifically as she turned to head inside the center.

Now that Akane had "captured" her new Oddish, she fished out her Pokedex and scanned the Pokeball the latest addition to her team resided in, the light from the screen helping to illuminate the area just a little bit more.

Bleep. "Oddish, scientific name: Oddium Wanderus. During the day it buries itself in nutrient rich soil exposing only its leaves. At night it wanders about scattering its seeds. It grows by absorbing moonlight" the electronic male voice of the Pokedex stated, seeming a little loud in contrast to the quiet of the forest. The screen showed more data about this particular Oddish, most notably the three moves it had available (important to know) and that it was female (important for trying to name something). It was then that she noticed the Low Battery light blinking.

This was bad, Akane was aware that she wasn't exactly sure where she was in the Viridian Forest but had counted on being able to call up the map built into her Pokedex to help guide her out again. As quickly as she could the blonde girl punched up the map. Right, there she was in the forest, she had wandered more east than she had planned so she should ... the screen went black without warning, making the forest all the darker for the absence of the screen's light.

Akane pressed the power button but to no avail. Her heart sank as she realized that things had indeed gotten bad. "Don't panic" she told herself and tried hard to follow her own advice. All she had to do was head west and meet up with the road. Twinkers looked at Akane quizzically as her trainer spoke to herself.

Now she only needed to know one thing, which way was west?

Kasiya was feeling a bit amazed over the fact that their discussion hadn't devolved into a fight, like usual, and she'd started to head towards the Pokemon Center's front doors when she heard Keegan speaking again. "Hmm, what? You want to battle now?" she asked, but she was smiling as she turned to face them. "Okay, but what kind of theory?" She took a Pokeball from her belt and tossed it up in the air before catching it again, and she repeated the process a few times as she awaited the redhead's answer.
=-=-=-=-=

"Perhaps not, but I wouldn't count him out just yet," Karrigan replied, still wearing her small, ever-present smile. She knew better than to underestimate the clever Sneasel and she hoped Venerax knew better as well. The redheaded girl kept her green eyes focused on the battle before her, sure it wouldn't last much longer.

As angry as Callistra was, her attacks were still quite reckless and easily readable and Ikouma was careful to dodge the more-dangerous Twineedle the Poison Bee threw at him. This came with the cost of being jabbed with the aforementioned Poison Sting, though he was able to cut in close and he launched a counterattack Ice Punch in an uppercut-like motion.

Jake had to laugh out loud as both his Pokemon were suddenly of the same mindsets; Turtwig pulled his body in closer for a Withdraw while Bidoof curled herself into a ball for a Defense Curl. As different as his two Pokemon were, they seemed to share in the same ideas now and then. They exchanged glances when they realized the other wasn't attacking, and Jake thought he saw the faintest traces of a smile on both Pokemon's faces before they sprang back up to their feet, apparently ready to continue their match.

"Keep at it," Jake encouraged, careful to direct his voice so both Pokemon would hear, and he watched with a slight smirk as the two crossed the field once more, each preparing to use a Tackle attack. The two Pokemon quickly moved towards each other, seemingly on course for a head-on collision until Bidoof neatly tucked and rolled off to the side, leaving the charging Turtwig a little stunned as he slid to a stop. The Grass-type realized too late what was about to happen as the brown ball of fluff suddenly lunged at him from behind, knocking them both to the ground yet again. At least Bidoof's clever, Jake thought, looking to Turtwig. The Tiny Leaf Pokemon appeared to be a little more worn down than his teammate.
