Misty wasted no time sending out her first Pokemon: A tough-looking Staryu. It dove into the water, and leaped out again, sending water all over the battlefield.
"Hmm...okay," Jaeshan said, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. A second later, he tossed out a Pokeball. "Let's get 'em, Butterfree!"
"The challenger has chosen Butterfree. The leader starts with Staryu. May the battle commence!" cried the referee.
"Okay Staryu! Hit it with a tackle!" cried Misty, again wasting not a single second. Staryu leapt out of the water again, and struck a startled Butterfree from behind. This process repeated a few times.
"When it jumps up again, hit it with Stun Spore!" Jaeshan said calmly. Staryu, as predictied, jumped out of the water. As it was about to strike, Butterfree flew up a bit, and dusted Staryu with a glittering, yellowish powder. It tensed up and landed hard on one of the floating mats in the pool.
"Now use Psybeam!" Jaeshan cried. Butterfree gave a cry, and released a multi-coloured beam that struck head on. Staryu flew back and was smashed into the wall behind Misty.

"Oh, Staryu!" Misty wailed. "Come on, you can do it! Water Gun!"
Staryu stood up, and fired a jet of water that hit Butterfree. It fell back, its center core blinking rapidly.
"That must have been a critical hit," Jaeshan said, putting a hand to his chin thoughtfully. "Is Staryu alright?" he called down to Misty.
"Yeah, it'll be fine after a good rest." Misty recalled it. "But now I'm mad. No Psybeam is gonna hurt this one! Misty calls Starmie!"
A larger, more impressive Starshape Pokemon appeared before them, purple in colour.
"Nice," commented Jaeshan. "We'll be glad to take it down! Go Butterfre, use Psybeam again!"
Butterfree fired the rainbow beam again, striking what looked like a glancing blow. Starmie was unphased.
"Ha!" cheered Misty. "Starmie's part Psychic type, so that wimpy psybeam won't do much!"
"I see," Jaeshan replied. "In any case, Butterfree! Gust!"
Butterfree whipped up a strong gust of wind and blasted Starmie. It fell backwards into the pool.
"Alright, Starmie! Use Water Pulse!"
Starmie jumped out of the water, and delivered a pulsating, watery attack. Butterfree was hit hard, and plummeted down into the water.
"Oh no! Butterfree!" Jaeshan jumped onto one of the mats, and scooped up the butterfly from the water. She chittered weakly, and fainted. "Good job," he said. "Have a good rest."
"Ha ha!" Misty cheered, and danced around. "How do ya like that?"
"You're strong," Jaeshan admitted. "I think I may have underestimated you somehow."

"You're strong too," said Misty. "Shall we continue?"
Jaeshan nodded. Now which one would be best to absorb all those water attacks? Maybe Bellsprout? But he's so small...oh well, size doesn't always count... Jaeshan gripped Bellsprout's Pokeball tightly, and released the small, teetering Pokemon.
"The challenger resumes the match with Bellsprout. Go!"
"Okay Starmie! Use Water Pulse!" cried Misty. She seemed to be going for the confusion element of the water attack.
"Concentrate, Bellsprout! Use Poisonpowder!" countered Jaeshan. Bellsprout stood suprisingly strong against the attack, and released a purple cloud of toxic spores onto the Starmie. It shuddered as the poison took effect.
"Grrr..." grumbled Misty. "Okay Starmie! Tackle it!"
"Grab onto it with your Wrap!" cried Jaeshan. "Hold it tight and follow up with Vine Whip!"
Starmie plowed into the tiny Bellsprout, who immediately extended its vines and wrapped them tightly around the starry Pokemon's body. It whipped its vines across its body a few times, and the poison continued to slowly sap Starmie's health, who struggled to escape the Wrap attack.

"Starmie! Use Swift!" cried Misty. Starmie released a spread of golden stars that each struck the small plantlike Pokemon, and it released it's grip momentarily.
"Vine Whip!" cried Jaeshan. Bellsprout stood as tall as it could, and turned and sent two razor-sharp leaves flying rapidly at Starmie.
"What's that?" cried Misty.
"That's Razor Leaf! Awesome!" Jaeshan grinned. "This ought to turn the tides for us!"
"Gah!" wailed Misty. "Water Pulse!"
"Razor Leaf!" cried Jaeshan at the same time. The two attacks hit each other and were cancelled out. Starmie staggered under the effects of the poison once more.
"Swift!" called Misty. The accurate attack hit head on, and now Bellsprout staggered. It was looking pretty weak.
"One more Razor Leaf! You can do it!" urged Jaeshan. Bellsprout fired the two leaves, both striking, but not as hard as Jaeshan had hoped. Both Pokemon slumped down, looking exhausted. Starmie's core gem was fading, and Bellsprout wavered more than usual.

An alarm-bell went off in Jaeshan's head. Bellsprout's in trouble, he thought. But Starmie's in no better condition...what to do...?
"Bell....sprou....tt!" Bellsprout gave a cry, and it became engulfed in a bright, white light. Before everyone's eyes, Bellsprout evolved into a Weepinbell!
"I can't believe it!" Jaeshan gasped, staring at the newly evolved Pokemon. Weepinbell stood before them, much larger than before.
"Bell!" it cried, and released a Razor Leaf. That was it, the battle was over. Starmie collapsed onto the mat, it's core gem blinking rapidly. Misty sank to her knees.
"Drat. I have it when that happens," she said. "Ah well. Come back, Starmie! That was a great battle." She recalled her fallen Pokemon, and sighed. "Congratulations, Jaeshan! You've won the Cascade Badge, and also one of my favourite TMs - Water Pulse!"
Anna, Rose, and Jess all came over to Jaeshan, and handed him his rewards. "Congratulations!" they all said.
"Thank you," he smiled, feeling himself blushing from head to toe. "If it hadn't been for Bellspr - I mean, Weepinbell's evolution, you would have won it, Misty."
He healed up his Pokemon in the gym's refresher machine, said his goodbyes, and headed out, a new badge in hand and another leg of his journey complete.
"Feels great," he said, his Mightyena by his side. "I guess next we head to Vermillion. I think there's a gym there," he said, and the duo headed off towards their next adventure.

"So...who are you going to face?" Ace asked anxiously considering he had just been insulted.
"Well...let's see. Both of you have only one pokemon each. I on the otherhand have two. I have a proposition for the both of you. How about--"
"Stop wasting our damn time and pick already." Ace said with his fists clenched.
Blu had never seen Ace like this. Even though he didnt know him that well, Blu noticed that Ace never showed this type of anger when they battled. It scared him a bit.
"Oh. Alrighty then. Why dont I battle you both. You two are a team. Only one pokemon out at a time. You lose, no badge even if the other one wins. Got it?" Falkner said as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Ok then, I--"
"I will go first." Blu said as he gathered enough courage to raise a voice against Ace.
"This is getting interesting." Falkner said as he snapped his fingers twice. Chirping began to fill the bird cage like gym and a pidgey flew in high speed in front of them. It quickly stopped, landed, dusted off its wings and took a battle stance. "I choose Pidgey."
"Fine. Go Spark!" Blu said as Pichu jumped off his head.
Ace turned and found a flat rock and sat down. He is going to lose, he thought to himself.

Ryka just stood there, looking at the musty building, until something snapped her out of her stare. An explosion erupted on the side of the building.
"What was that?!" Ryka yelled. She ran around the side of the building to see what had happened. She saw two people standing in the smoke with a Gyrados. One was a girl, and the other was a boy. The boy, to Ryka, looked like a Rocket member, hiding under a cloak, and the girl was wearing a Rocket hat, without the red R. "Hmm.." Ryka whispered to herself, "maybe this is a Rocket base?" Ryka decided to stay quiet while they talked. She couldn't hear them, but they ran around a corner and disappeared. "Here's our chance to take down those Rocket's once and for all.." Ryka told Blitz as they followed the people.
They kept walking all the way to the Pokemon Center. The people entered it, and Ryka followed. When she went in, she saw them sitting on some couches. Without trying to cause a racket, she walked over and srtarted to threaten them.
"You two are from Team Rocket, aren't you? If you want to do anything to the people in this center, you'll have to go through me first."

Someone screaming some threats had waken Mitsu up. She looked at the girl with half closed eyes. "Woah, woah. Hold up there." Mitsu said waving her hand absent mindedly. Her voice sounded tired and was barely above a whisper. Annoying little girl, Mitsu thought miserably, I only wanted some sleep.

Just about to slip into sleep Dante cracked one eye open and stared at her sleepily. "Huh?" He asked intelligently. He wasn't the smartest when he was sleepy.
