A small grin.

"Ingenuity only works when someone is left alive to continue the process. we could invent the most powerful weapon known to teh world here, but if we all die, it dies with us. I imagine much of our weapons that may at one point have worked have been lost to time that way."

a slight grin, leaning no the railing and watching his crew work a moment.

"The black dragon is what we refer to as an elder wurm, or an ancient dragon, some call them dragon lords. one of the most deadly ships in the sandsea, the black dagger, is almost entirely built of such beasts. she's incredibly fast, and remarkably resilient. we've tried similar things with Des. lining the interior of the hull with her discarded skins, and find that our hull is quite able to take a beating. or at least we don't take on sand nearly as much as many scraps would have done to us."

glancing back over.

"I've had the Chimera modified over the years, and she has a lot of tricks in her hull. the blades, the ballista setup, your familiar with that, as I tired to net you with it. the problem we run into with large beasts, particularly sandworms of decent size, or dragons and riders, is they are just too slow. dragons are too fast and manuverable. We've tried adjusting weights and such, and found out we get light enough to actually hit, the weight isn't enough to do any real damage."

a shrug.

"So much for our ingenuity. not to mention, if he's a fire breather, it doesn't take much to combust all of our keg powder for the cannons. and that can ruin a prefectly good trip."

Commander mindset was back in action... Though was it ever not? "First of all, the charting information you wanted. According to the black, the end of a recently opened chasm lies northwest from here and sand currents there may be the trick to finding our way out of the saltbeds. Issue with that is, Rider camps and subsequent outposts are prominent in that area and even moreso further north. He didn't say anything else and advised us to devise some plan to slip past the Riders if we were to head in that direction. Jae can help us with such strategies if that's you and captain Hunt's decision." A nod to the white dragoness beside him before continuing. "I do have my personal doubts and suspicions about the black but I don't recommend turning back. For one thing, I assume Fang is still on the prowl for us for whatever reasons and also, we need to keep in mind the original goal of this journey. We don't necessarily have to head northwest but as Jae said to me earlier, we have to keep moving as soon as possible."

She seemed to think about it for a moment...she thought she knew how but she just wasn't quite sure if she could exactly do it. Imagining things was still hard for her and it wasn't like she was used to looking at herself for visual reference. "Show?"

"Is that not what writing was invented for? Knowledge should rarely die with one person. And dragon scales are overrated if you know how to deal with them. You'd be surprised I think that a dragon's weak points are...quite simple sometimes." Grinning lightly. "That is where you need not consider weight." Thusly pulling a little ball from her jacket about the size of a marble, rolling it between two fingers lightly. "Take this for example. Tell me what you think...go on, let your imagination run wild." Setting it on the railing and making sure it wasn't going to roll anywhere. "And you have a method to protect against dragon fire..." Which she then pulled out a single white scale, setting it beside the ball.

"We don't know how many people know about this oasis. However, we do know that it apparently it someplace that the back is at ease. He doesn't seem to worry about the Riders at all. Whether we head deeper into Rider territory or try to find a way around, there's going to be the possibility. I suggested bait, but the Commander doesn't want to go that far if we don't need to."

Commander...what were we in war mode all of a sudden? Whatever. "I'm sure Hunter isn't enthused about the dragon, but at the same time I do know he's eager to get out of here. Yes, going back is not a helpful thing and going forward is a bad thing too. This is why I love the sandseas...something is always there to keep you on your toes. Well...okay so I know the situation and I agree that bait while dangerous is...beneficial...any personal opinions before we get Hunter all riled up? Fire? Eilynne?" Before a sly smirk. "Though you know...we do have a Rider dragon...why not play dress up and mayhaps use that to our advantage?"

"usually, yes. however out here, more often than not, any writing is lost with the person doing it. as well as the ship they were on."

glancing at the objects, picking up the dragonscale.

"ice based dragon scale. and probably some toxic bomb from your necromancy. though I don't see how a single scale would protect us from a full jet of dragonflame. but I don't profess to know magic or how it works. What other hidden toys do you have in your robes, I wonder."

Shyrae studied Sky for a long time and suddenly hated the fact that she was an elf and knew so little about Sky's kind. This is the very reason she needed Dhair, the b*****d. "I...can't, Sky. I'm not like you...I don't change forms." Searching for the right way to explain. "I don't know how to do it or I would be glad to show you. We'll have to wait for Kaznec or Jae, okay? Or maybe you could...try it yourself? How did you get like this?"

Eilynne nodded, "There are many enemies still afoot and we must be wary of them all. Captain Nereem, I will not permit Skylheera to be harmed in anyway. She has held an interesting life thus far and the chances of them harming her at her first sign of resistance is far too high for my comfort. The pact has been broken and that must be dealt with. Think carefully before you meddle with lines that are already blurring and bleeding into each other."

She paused a moment, tapping her fingers together. "It is true that we do need to make a decision and soon. Moving is by far the only choice and I agree that forward is the only wise way to go. This oasis seems to be the best course for now. But through it all, a wary eye must be kept on this dragon. I am not altogether comfortable with his presence and I sense something coming on the horizon."

Personally, he would have preferred the orderly standards of life in one spot, like Ilindal... home. But since he was out here now, the people who made the final decisions were the ones who knew best. "No bait." Giving a firm shake of his head to Gem, before he was pleasantly surprised that Eilynne agreed with him. There was just no reason to risk such a thing if they could outrun or outwit their enemies. "To use Sky as bait would be to betray her trust, which she seems to have built up in place of the naive obedience which she'd been taught by them. If we can agree on the situation though and the crew is well rested, then you and Hunt need to decide on our next bearings." A glance out to the black again. "This is his roosting spot. I doubt he will continue to follow us." Unless he had other motivations or reasons... and they could be good or bad. How unsettling.

"Which makes digging in the sand more fun, I would say. After all, I found myself a new toy in the gritty mess." But then a grin. "Ah you see...if you speak of something with a certain air...the bluff usually pays off." Picking up the ball and then promptly flicking it at Hunter, popping him in the side of the head. Wasn't hard to tell where he was and she knew his height and what not. "But such things are indeed possible. And a single scale from a dragon can do more than you think for those that have the right tools at their disposal." Necromancy was such a wonderful thing when you had the best teachers to show you all the tricks and experimental mind that made you find new ones of your own. "If I an make a dragon from a single bone chip...what do you think I could do with a whole scale at my disposal with necromantic means on top of it all. For instance...dragon breath weapons are always cancelers to each other with opposing elements. An coating of such scales against dragon fire, with the elemental magics within activated. Practical application is a most effective key in most cases." Looking in his direction then with a raised eyebrow then. "I carry an arsenal with me."

She held up her hands in defense. "Right right, no bait. It was only an idea. I wasn't going to hurt the little dragon or anything. Like to admit it or not you dragons are something that would draw the attention of any rider and perhaps put their guards down if they sought to hunt. Eager scavangers forget the safety of their hidey holes when they see a meal to snatch." Crossing her arms over her chest. "I don't think we have the wind to speed run a course without drawing attention from add ons. A look to Bell then, "You gonna grow anytime within the next hours...white scale plating would make nice cameoflauge." Shaking her head though because that was more rhetorical than anything. Then the epiphany look. "You two can still be fine in cloud cover right...we can travel in cover easily...all we have to do is fog up the outposts so we can pass. I may look carefree, but I do have a few nasty tricks in the hull of this old girl. Fog charges are quite the lovely thing..." Grabbing a passing cabin boy. "Go find what Hunter has in his littler evasion arsenal."

"Fog charge....that's an interesting concept. If one wants to travel undected and they can't use stealth...then the next best method is to use obstruction." Tapping her fingers against a horn for a moment in her little thought processes. "I'm going to need to talk to the black."

Sky pat Shyrae on the head, as if she understood that was what you did when someone wasn't smiling and they needed some pick up of some sorts. A big smile of her own. "Okay good. Shyrae learn new things too." Simple as that to her and just enjoying the current moment. But a nod to all of is as if she was willing to wait, idly flicking her tail back and forth behind herself. "White make look true look different in here." Poking at her head and tilting it somewhat. "Need look."
PostPosted: Wed Dec 12, 2007 10:00 pm

Okay...she was going to attempt to understand that as best she could and pray she got it right. True look different in here? Smoothing down her hair lightly, she tilted her head and began putting the pieces together. "Visualizing? Is that all you did?" Well, that could be done easily enough. Scribing a series of runes on the deck of the ship, a small figuring of Sky projected itself from the glowing runes. "Can you use that?"

"Rahsaveer has many abilities that could help with cover as well. I will help in any way that I can for I wish to see all of you returned safely to Ilindal at the journeys end." She glanced out at the black on the sands ands frowned. Something really didn't feel right. "Counsel with Captain Deacon does not always yield the best results. He's often impulsive when a carefully chosen course would benefit. I am willing to listen to what he has, however, the final decision will rest with me. Are we all agreed?"

He glanced back over to where Sky and Shyrae was, watching them communicate for a moment. Perhaps it really was possible to re-civilize her. Perhaps fearing the Riders was simply a case of "fearing the unknown" like so many scholars had written about. Turning back to the other three though, he tilted his head at Gem's comment about growing and looked to Jae. Though when she gave no answer to that, he merely let it slide from his attention. "Temporarily so, yes. But since the storm, I doubt there will be much cloud cover for us now. Unless we are needed to scout ahead or as a means of defense, I wouldn't suggest transforming." Admittedly, he had his own reservations about it but he was still being rational. "Agreed. Find out what captain Hunt thinks then and in the meantime, I'll keep an eye on the black and the oasis." Golden eyes moved to Jae though and he blinked, obviously not following her thought process. "Why?"
PostPosted: Thu Dec 13, 2007 5:51 pm

"from my limited knowledge, necromancy was resotring the dead to life when it came to things like that. I didn't think you'd be able to mass produce the scaling needed to coat a ship with it."

though he caught the marble after she hit him in the head with it.

"I'd suggest if you wanted to try it, confer with Des. she may be able to provide more insight on dragonics than I can. I mean sure, I slept with Des, so I know a neutral dragoness' body fairly well, but I'm not intimate with the inner workings of things like thier breath weapons."

before glancing at the cabin boy, and smirking at his question.

"I got heat mirrors, and I have foggers...and I got some boomers too. full adult dragon. Des helped make them a long time ago."

Then back to Savy.

"An arsenal you say. how is it then that you remain comfortable with all those tools in your robes? you like the occasional jabs and prods, or do you wear some other layer of armor?"

She blinked as if trying to figure out the big word but only got the beginning and figured that was the important part anyway. Thusly a nod at it and then getting entranced by what Shyrae did next, evident in the slightly excited flailing that she did to get out of Shyrae's hold to be on hands and knees on the deck, face eye level with the little phantom. Use that? "Sky try?" Thusly slipping her feet under herself so she was on hands and feet now in that way she should be standing when she was in natural form. About three minutes laters, her had herself paws, digitgrad feet and a few more scales. Little frown as she sat back crouched on her claws. "Not all work...." This was hard....

Gem looked to the boy who came back to her with news. "Smoke and whistles is that it? That would be just like him." Shaking her head lightly and turning her attention back to those in her immediate company. Giggle at Eilynne's comment. "That's Hunt for you but fair enough, final decision is yours. THough it seemed between me and Hunter, we have enough play toys to at least cause a distraction and then make cover for ourselves. Even fog can make a dragon's senses dull." Tilting her hat away from her face some. "Necessary evils, Fire. I'm sure you know that phrase. Sometimes we all have to do things we don't want to do." Back to Eilynne. "Well, so far?"

"Because he's the one that says he knows what's in these sands. If we're going to be moving about and what not I need to know where everything is if I"m going to have a good plan and path to give. Especially if we're going evasion tactics...need to know what's there before we are able to see it."

"Golem making in a sense it what it's all about. Make a whole out of a part and use it to your advantage. Or Have one part and use fragmentation application prinicples to make it work, all pieces don't have to cover everything but merely be placed strategically. Don't try to take that all in at once, you may mentally choke on it." Sighing lightly and turning a look up at the sound of Chy overheard, gliding on updrafts and what not. "I have years of knowlege in my head and I've disected more things than you can even dream up...part of my training. I know how such things work." Looking through Hunter more than at him again. "When one's world is mostly one of feeling, they know how to arrange things in a way that suits the body's movement. Anything too combersome for that is stashed in a special bag." Smirking. "I'm not exactly that kind of girl...and if you must know, armor is something that I only wear bodily when I have to...metal makes for better lack of feel than anything unless you're looking for vibration transmittal."
PostPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2007 4:19 pm

Nodding encouragingly, she watched Sky attempt to cause her form to change back to the one she was more used to and was rather surprised to see her hands and feet change. Waiting for her to change the rest of the way, she glanced up and mirrored the frown. "Hmm...perhaps if you close your eyes and try to see this image in your mind? Can you try that for me, Sky?" Gesturing to the little phantom-like copy of herself. "Remember what you look like from the image I showed you and try to see it without your eyes."

"You can go only if I go with you, Jaebell. I will disguise myself and listen along." Not willing to let anything happen to one of the most valuable members of the group, she listened to the current plan and nodded. "Distractions and cover is satisfactory. There will be no firearms used against the dragon unless I command otherwise. I want that agreed right now. Upsetting the black or calling the Riders through foolish endeavors is not what our goal is. We all will do our best to stay safe and move through this then decide our next plan of action. That is my final say."

Necessary evils indeed, hardly an understatement in some cases. He turned eyes to Jae, then back out to the black and wondered if he would help them if anything did go wrong with the Riders. He did want to trust him, but there were always going to be conflicting internal forces. It just wouldn't be Kaz-like if there wasn't. "Unfortunately, his word is all we have go on right now. Be careful though." As Eilynne decided that she would accompany Jae, he would stay behind and just keep a careful eye on things as he swam through his own thoughts. He had half a mind to call father and ask questions but this wasn't the time, was it?
PostPosted: Sat Dec 15, 2007 8:15 pm

"I imagine as much. but even the most careful arrangements can be disrupted. I'd figure you'd wear some kind of leather or body armor under that if you're carrying an arsenal for that purpose. not all armor is metal, you know."

before glancing across the way at the meeting that was on the other ship. soon enough they'd be over to speak with him he imagined.

"But for now, we have to be nice with the black thing. can't piss it off without knowing we can handle it. and I'm sure miss star eyes will have some edict that says no touching him because he's important to some obscure plan that we aren't privy to thing."

Well was this good or bad? She wasn't being chastised for it, only given more gentle encouragement and thus she nodded and took another look before closing her eyes and getting that look of concentration. Another moment or two and there we go, we were all dragon again and nuzzling at Shyrae in happy fashion. "Sky good. Shyrae good teach." And not she knew how to do it both ways! Practice would be fun.

She nodded to the Laerethe. "Agreed." And then her look turned back to Kaznec. "No worries, I'll be careful. After all...you're not supposed to worry too much remember? And try not to dwell...maybe you can talk to someone who does have the answers." They both knew what or rather who she was referring and thus she turned her attention over to the lazign black, watching him a moment. "I'm sure it won't take long."

"No worries Eilynne...last thing I want is a gun battle and various other projectiles and what not. It's just too much of a hassle and causes more death and harm than needed. As a pirate...I've no right to judge a Rider. We both live by the only way we know how to live and survive. We're nowhere near kith and kin though." Snagging that boy again. "Send word to Hunter...and someone find my first mate. Want to know where the bloody hell he's been..."

"But metals can be the most effective. What? Casing my state of dress so you know how to get to me yourself?" Armor was something she had fought with her parents on...she didn't like it too much because it dulled down her touch sensation. They had all settled for one of her father's tricks, armor summoning of sorts for when she needed it. Involved some bone dust and a trigger and what not, but it wasn't complicated for her. Not that she was telling anyone else that.

"Why tangle with something you don't have to? My uncle used to be big on things being a 'waste of energy' and he was right in that respect. Some things are just that, a waste of energy and wa waste of time as well." Reaching over, she grabbed Hunter's chin with her gloved hand and turned his head to her, letting the pads of her fingers on her other hands ghost over the structure of his face. Heh, he was still scratched up, humans such slow healers.
