Celeb nodded and lowered his eyes. "I just don't understand," he murmured softly. "She tells those guys not to give up, because just because she doesn't love them now doesn't mean she never will ... but then she told me today that she wants to leave this place. Why doesn't she just tell them she isn't interested, then? It would make things easier ... for her, I mean. It wouldn't change anything for me except that I would feel better that she wouldn't be hounded anymore."

"You see, this is the where suitors in general make the largest mistake," Lin told Celeb honestly, "When someone tells you, I might love you in the future, it does not give you permission to hound them and be even more aggressive about courting, because that ticks normal people off, or in the case of my one friend makes him a complete mouse."
She thanked the goddesses (even though they probably had nothing to do with it) every day that Kin got himself a girlfriend. Someone who was sane, kind and gentle on his mousey personality.
"Or in Haldia's case, it causes them to leave. I'm pretty sure one of the reasons why she wants to go, is because they are not giving her time to herself. Love is a complicated thing Celeb, sometimes we don't really know right off what we want."
As she said this she took Earendil's arm, she should know. It took about one week, one argument and a whole lot of head banging for her to get it.

Earendil smiled and put his arm around Lin, holding her close.
Celeb shook his head in disbelief. "I don't understand them," he said simply. "I mean ... Haldia and I had a discussion today, too ... and she told me basically that. That she doesn't love me, not like I love her, but that she just needs time. That she wants us to be the way we used to. So that's what I'm ... well, that's what I'm trying to do."
He hesitated. Obviously, now that he was grown, he could go many more places than he had used to, which meant they were spending more time together than they had before. Still ... she didn't seem irritated so far ...

"Which is exactly what you should do," Lin smiled at Celeb, "You're trying, and that's all she can ask for. Look, I can't pretend to understand why it seems they're still trying to court when that isn't what she needs at the moment, and I'll be honest with you. Even if you hadn't had any interest in Haldia at all, I bet Cald would still pick on you and you'd still have to worry about the other suitors."
"That doesn't make any sense," Miyuki wrinkled her nose.
She was trying her hardest to keep up with the conversation but she really didn't get everything her mommy was trying to say.
"Sweetie, life does not make sense, if it did we would all be living happily and peacefully and there would be no such thing as idiots," Lin said maybe a bit too cheerfully.

Celeb wasn't sure he understood that part either, but he burst out laughing at what she told Miyuki. Pain exploded in his ribs and his injured eye, putting a quick stop to his laughter, but it felt good for the briefest instant.
"Thanks," he grinned at Lin. "I think I feel better now. And thanks for coming to talk to me, all of you. I didn't want to eavesdrop on their conversation." He nodded towards Haldia and the elders. "But I didn't quite know how not to, either."

"Fair enough," Lin agreed.
Honestly if the conversation involved someone beating her up with several high ranking people, she'd be interested too.
"I'd be curious too if it involved me. A lot has happened in a short time."

"You can say that again," Celeb agreed. "Hard to believe we just arrived yesterday."
Suddenly Haldia joined them again, apparently finished with her conversation with the elders. "Sorry about that," she smiled. "I was just letting them know a few things."
"Oh?" Earendil asked, tilting his head curiously.

"Such as?" Lin asked and then added before chuckling a bit, "We're curious."
She certainly was, she wondered what else Haldia needed to say.

"That I am going to be leaving Nauros," Haldia replied calmly. "For good. I may return for visits, like Kelirahc, but I cannot live here anymore. Since my return, I think I have known this ... but I have been fighting against it. After tonight, though, I think it is quite clear that I no longer have a place here."
Celeb stared at her. "What are you going to do then?" he asked her curiously.
Haldia looked at him thoughtfully, then shrugged. "Travel, I suppose. With all of you, if you will have me ... with Kelirahc and Leyenda, perhaps ... continue with trying to learn the Common Tongue, perhaps find somewhere to eventually settle down."

Now that Miyuki was growing even older, it would be easier to take her around.

Haldia smiled warmly at Lin. "Thank you. All of you. In my life, I have not had such good friends as all of you, save for Kelirahc."
She motioned for them to follow her. "Come, it is nearly lunch time for us. I will make something for all of you." She started towards her hut again to get her things.

Miyuki perked up at the idea of food and she tottled along side Haldia, "What are you going to make?"
Haldia made really good food, so she looked forward to that.

Haldia considered for a moment. "Probably just a large cut-up," she decided. "It does not take long, and it's very simple." She grinned at the girl. "We can use the mushrooms we picked earlier today! What do you think of that? You could even help me if you would like to."
Earendil tilted his head curiously. "A cut-up?"
"Um ..." Haldia thought and thought and thought some more. "I do not know what you would call it. But if you can wait and see, then you can tell me, how does that sound?"

"Yay!" Miyuki bounced in her steps.
She would like to help out something like that, because then she would get to eat it later!

Haldia laughed. "Yes, yes you do."
She entered into her hut (which was a little bigger than it had used to be) and came out quickly with her bag over her shoulder. "Earendil, Lin, do you want to come with? We are just going to collect a few plants and some fruit."
"I would like to," Celeb spoke up, but Haldia shook her head.
"No," she told him firmly. "You have not slept in more than twenty two hours and you are injured. I would feel better if you would rest instead."
Celeb blinked. "But-"
"Do not argue," she told him, half amused. "Lay in my hut if you like, but I would like you to rest rather than push yourself further."
