So sorry I've been a little scarce! My kids have the flu - the icky throwing up kind and last night I was at the emergency room until 3am with my daughter. She's okay but was throwing up so much we couldn't keep her hydrated.
I'll get the monthly update and such as soon as I can but mostly likely won't be today.
((((hugs)))))

Although I am served, you do not want me. But once you have me, you don't want to lose me. What am I?

((((hugs))))) My aunt had a recipe they used during a flu epidemic, was a nurse and then became an FNP. It doesn't taste good, but it settles the stomach. Boil 1 quart of water. Add tea just enough to color it. Add: 10 tbsp. sugar 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. baking soda Drink 2 quarts in 24 hours. Then try weak tea and crackers, followed by chicken broth or chicken soup and crackers. Basically, it's a sugar/saline solution, with tea and baking soda to settle the stomach.

I actually ran into a FB comment recently that had me visualizing a chat balloon over my head full of ???? She advocated real cane sugar as opposed to other sweet alternatives. No real food value, but neither does it have untested ingredients. Our FDA has become a tool of the food industry. My doctor recommended Splenda, and I recently saw something on the problems with it. Idk, real fruit is safe, beyond that, it seems setting a limit on sweets is probably the best choice. I love honey, but it isn't recommended for the very young. After the first year or two, it isn't a problem. What surprised me about the aunt was that she was doctor-reliant, and it seemed such a commonsense solution. You wouldn't want to drink it as anything but medicine. And I would prefer honey, but getting it to dissolve might be a problem, unless the water was really hot when you added it.

You wouldn't want to drink it as anything but medicine. And I would prefer honey, but getting it to dissolve might be a problem, unless the water was really hot when you added it. Well the good news is my daughter is doing much better! She hasn't thrown up in a few days now and is going to school today. Her appetite is just about back to normal but she's still not interested in anything heavy like dairy or meat. When she was in the throws of it (heh) nothing and I mean nothing would stay down. She would have a tiny sip of water (or Pedialyte or Gatorade which was recommended by the doc) and it would come right back up. We didn't try any solutions such as the above but by that time, she was so dehydrated she needed an IV so we went to the urgent care for that. As far as the honey goes, we've actually had some luck with using local honey from the farmers market with my son. He always gets allergies this time of year and it does seem to make at least a small difference for him. (he's 14 - so no age concerns for using honey for him) A sugar substitute that doesn't seem as bad is stevia. I actually grow it in my garden and use the leaves to sweeten my tea and coffee. It's really good and if you get it directly from the leaf it's not processed at all.

Whew, I missed you guys! With summer fast approaching I've been trying to spend less time on the computer and more time reading and crocheting. Especially the latter, considering how much money I dropped on yarn yesterday... sweatdrop
But since I was talking to my IRL BFF (who I didn't know still came on Gaia after a million years) how much I love this guild and I was like, hey I need to go say hi! I'll get my friend in here once she tells me which of her like, seven accounts she wants to use for the guild. xp
Glad to hear your little one's feeling better, Cam! Late nights at the emergency room are no fun, but they are necessary sometimes.
