A blink down at Eilynne...well that was a statement she hadn't been expecting. "My opinion...he's a dragon that I don't know. Anything I don't know I don't trust but I also know that things who are used to something can give vital information. As for a dependency on your power? NO offense, but I've no knowledge of what you can do or what it does. Why would I want a guarentee on something I can't grasp?"
She looked upset for a moment, but decided not to be. She was used to having her food being taken away from her. "Already trouble." She didn't quite understand, but she did know that it was okay. These people treated her a certain way. But then a little eep of unfamiliarity as Shyrae messed with her hair and her hands move back to feel at the brown slightly wavy and in need of a brushing, strands. Oh this was new, why hadn't we noticed this before? New fascination...that quickly transferred to Shyrae's hair...it was the same! but different looking.
His naive nature was sometimes for the best she though as he felt her for a fever that she knew wasn't going to be there. "Yes, back to Ilindal." Confirming it for him for the need to say something at least. "An answer?" An answer to what? She'd found her answers and she didn't like any of them...wasn't it better to just pretend none of it had happened? Go home and shape up in her apprenticing and the like? "Need me for what? There's nothing to chart, there's no use for strategy...that's all I know how to do. Now I'm just kinda like a passenger, something the captains are clearly annoyed be." At least she could think of reasons to give him. Where was that happy attitude of hers? She wanted it back...

"You have never offended me, Captain Nereem." Listening to the woman speak and nodding, she glanced back out onto the sands. "I am pleased by your ability to see past the stains of this life. Not all messengers are to be drawn and quartered once their message is delivered but neither can one fully trust that which has not been proven by any means." That was the point that Hunter kept continually missing. "My power is known by none other than myself and the Goddess. Your faith should lie with your own crew. If they are trained well, they will perform well, yes?"
Shyrae knew Sky was still hungry but also knew that throwing up was not something that she wanted to introduce the little dragon to if she didn't have to. "When your stomach growls then you can have some more." She settled her fingers against Sky's head to let her settle and get used to the feeling but made sure the strands were brushed and looking semi-decent. "What else do you want taught to you, Sky?"

"The answer to the disappearance of the Orb. We've been out here for a long time but we've made progress, that means we must be going into the right direction." She didn't have a fever but she didn't look so happy and he knew that meant something was wrong. But what? "The salt beds have to be charted, if not only for this journey then for the Ilindal's future reference as well. As for strategy, the black dragon said that Rider outposts lie to the northwest but if the captains decide to take a risk then we will need you. Everything is under Eilynne's direction. If she says you're part of the team, then you are." But if she was really sick then none of that mattered, her health came first. He did not want to see her suffer again and if Eilynne couldn't do anything for her, then Ilindal was the only other option. "I'll go back with you."

"We've survived a long time without you creatures here, even if we are only human. And we'll survive when you leave as well. That's the way of things...the strong survive and prosper adn they rely on themselves and the bonds they have built with others, not on chance powers that be and heaven sent bounties. Besides...I don't intend to die anytime soon, still a lot of sand out there to scour."
Stomachs shouldn't growl but she figured she'd get it when it happened. But she helf still mostly as she she let Shyrae tend to her hair all the while also messing with the elf's own hair. After all, it was a different color and texture and so on and one of those new fascinating things that she was just now becoming aware of. Sky blue eyes turned to Shyrae with a little grin before a point to one of the girl's braids. "That."
Damn his logical brain making her fit right back into everything on this journey and it really wasn't like she could say that he was wrong, becuase he wasn't wrong. Rarely was when it came to point A point B logic. Granted she didn't really want to go home but she didn't know if she could take the breaking down of her wonderful little illusion world or sorts. But then a few confused blinks at him as he decided that he was going to further the matter. "Go back with me? But they need you here...you can't cover that much distance back and forth in a day and something could happen here that they need you for. It's too much of a risk, isn't it?"

Couldn't argue with logic and he merely took her silence as agreement, watching her as she seemed confused with his next proposal. "It's too much of a risk for you to go back alone. You're still not feeling well and this isn't safe territory. Fang is still out there looking for us and the Riders are everywhere." Not to mention, his uncle had specifically warned him to keep an eye on Jae. "It doesn't have to be a day. I'll just... I can keep in touch with Eilynne using Xeke."

Yup she had screwed herself. Jae could give him quite the few reasons as to why she would be fine on her own; she was smaller, she could sty in cloud cover, she could blend into the salt, but she knew that that tiny margin of error and what if in his head wouldn't let him take her answers. So she had a choice now...go home and have him follow with her then worry about him getting back out here, or stay and maybe just disappoint him by sneaking off by herself when they all slept perhaps. Damn, rock and a hard place. "I suppose it's just better for me to stay put..." She just...couldn't risk his own safety for the selfishness of herself.

Hunter watched the dead thing with the rope, and gave a smirk.
"her ears pick up a lot more than you'd think."
before moving himself over toward the bow of the ship, watching the black dragon with one hand on the railing.
"If push comes to shove, and we can't count on at least two dragons, one for personal issues and one for lack of understanding, we need a plan to bring him down."

Eilynne nodded approvingly. "I admire your propensity to believe in those who you are connected with, Captain Nereem. It is good to hear that some have not fully lost faith. The Goddess will also be pleased. She feared that reliance would become a problem and did not want to send help. A few managed to convince her otherwise but this is neither my home nor my dwelling place. I must return at some time and my help can never be assured." She cocked her head, "How do you speak of your time of death so certainly? Jaebell claims you do not know when it will happen."
Shyrae glanced at the braids hanging in her hair, a trademark of her family, and nodded. "That, Sky, is a braid. It is a twisting of your hair that keeps it out of your face. Would you like me to do that to your hair?" Reaching out and lightly brushing a few flyaway strands down. "I can and then you can have hair just like mine. Or I can teach you to do it yourself. Would that please you?"

A risk was still a risk, no matter how small. And thus she was right in her reasoning; he wouldn't back down after he'd made up his mind. Staying patiently silent though, he waited until she gave him an answer to that. "Strategy-wise, yes. But health-wise, I don't know. If that mysterious illness you caught a while ago still lingers in your system, then it could worsen over time. You need to know how you feel and decide what to do, or describe it to me in detail so that I can try to help. Or you could talk to father and the doctors back home." As far as he knew, she just needed to do something. Whatever she thought was best for herself.

She of course was still listening as she was going about doing rigging and roping things just because she was more or less bored and well...she could eavesdrop some more. "You seem to think that killing a dragon is a hard feat. Well..maybe if you attack it from the wrong angle and method I suppose it is. I find it quite amusing."
"Well...if I'm pleasing Goddesses then all the more well the answer is. Who knows if that may ever work in my favor." But a blink at the turn in conversation. "Well death is something that must be given in to. Someone can shoot me and if I'm willing to fight for my life, then I may survive yet. Avoiding such foolish things in the first place keeps death at bay, but it is true that no one quite knows when it will happen. We humans though have a short time to live, death is something we are more comfortable with I think."
"Braid." That was a funny word wasn't it? Of course a tad more so to her because she had a tendency to roll her r's a little. What did she want? Her hair could be like that too and that would be neat, but then she could also learn as well, right? Right. Thusly happy giggle and throwing up her arms, before flailing a little as she had started to tip forward but caught herself on their makshift table. "Both."
And now a slight tilt of her head. "Well...it's not quite the same feeling. I'm feeling well...just not well in a strange way is all. I really don't know how to describe it just that I don't feel..right. But not badly." Yet right at the same time and looking to him she blinked and figured that she was really just confusing the hell out of Kaznec with all the twists and turn in that feeling description. "I know that's confusing but there's really nothing more to say about it."Another shake of her head lightly, "And Des just upset me is all, so I'm probably feeling worse because of that...I don't want you to worry."

One more fascinating fact to be attributed to these humans. She cocked her head and listened, lining Gem's response up with what her own experience and her talk with Jae had taught her. "Being closer to something often quells the fear. As one travels the cloud of the unknown steadily dissipates. But you still cannot know death until it meets you face to face. Do you not fear it like so many others?"
"Right, braid." She reached out ready to help Sky if she moved to fall again and then dropped her hands to her sides. So, she was going to be teaching her and doing it for her. Alright. Glancing at Kaznec and Jae, it didn't seem like they were finished with their conversation so she couldn't borrow one of their heads to teach Sky on. Her own would have to do. "I'll undo mine and show you how it works in my own hair then I'll do it for you on your hair. You can practice on mine, how's that?"
It was an easy process though she had to force herself to slow down and explain carefully each and every step of the braiding process. A second nature motion by now, her fingers could easily fly and have her entire head braided in under a half hour time span. She let her own loose and gestured for Sky to sit in front of her then removed all the clips and braided her hair into one big braid. "There you go, Sky. Now you can do me." Standing and waiting for Sky to do so as well so they could switch spots.

Majorly confused indeed and it was partially his fault. Not everyone could just go ahead and objectively describe their physical sensations or their emotions like he did usually. Feeling well but strangely so and not badly either... Nope, the logic mechanism in his mind was going all screwy. Thus he merely blinked back at her in that ever calm way until there was something he could say in reply. "She was issuing empty threats, don't believe them. There are a lot of people here that would stop her if she ever tried anything like that. Why did she keep looking and pointing at me though? If I did something and she's taking out her anger on you, then I will go and talk to her." Funny she should mention worrying though. Was there ever a point in time where he just didn't worry about anything at all? "I don't think I can do that."

"I don't fear death...I chose a life where death is more common than in most other places. But I wasn't going to trade passion for safety and thus far it's worked out for me. I'm alive, healty, and even if my biological clock is ticking and alarming at me at this point for not giving in to purely womanly things, I'm happy. I just hope not to die in a shameful or petty way."
And this braiding thing...was very logical and like a puzzle. Two of a dragon's favorite things and she watch closely and diligently, oh so pleased when Shyrae did it to her own and then it was on to trying it herself. Which ended up in a little accidental pulling and a few tries later she was managing to do them...though loosely. "What's it for?" Touching her own hair again, all these little things to wonder.
Yup, she had confused the hell out of him, but she alreayd knew that that was going to happen. Which is why she didn't mind when he glossed over her little issue and tackled what he could answer. "I probably shouldn't be pushing her by trying to intimidate her back...but she just made me angry and I couldn't help it." Shaking her head, " You didn't do anything Kaznec. She was just trying to make an example with you is all." But she couldn't help the laugh and the slight shaking of her head as she lifted a hand to rest against his cheek with a light smile. "At least try to not worry so much then?"

She blinked at that. Biological clock? She knew what the individual things were and what their functions were as well so it seemed that there was a time limit on biological processes, then? "It cannot be reset?" Yes, taking such things very literally. "You shall not die in such a way Captain Nereem. Of that I can assure you." She would tell her no more than that little tidbit but it was enjoyable to soothe some of their fears with the knowledge that she did have.
Shyrae was suprised and pleased with how quickly Sky caught onto the braiding concept. It was a little loose but she could tell motions and know that the woman was doing it right. Although...that was a very good question. "Well, it keeps your hair out of your eyes and it makes it look nice." Why did they braid hair? Why had it all started and who had started it in the first place. "Some are known by the braids in their hair. My family is."

"Oh, alright then." She was probably right, but there was no use going on about it now if she wasn't really hurt. Physically, that is. He still had no idea what she was talking about but at least she seemed better? Because she was smiling now and he did so in return, vaguely but still there. "I'll try." Doubtful, but if she was worrying about him worrying about her then everything was just going to be unpleasant. He nodded reassuringly to her, before eyes slipped back out to the oasis and the black form that was still lounging by the water. "Have you seen him before?" The smile faded back into neutrality and he hesitated for a moment. "He claims to be my uncle... My mother's brother."
