As everyone who talks to me over IM might know, I bought a pinball machine.
It arrived today.
surprised First, the bad news. The shippers damaged the dome on top of the pinball machine, shattering it, and part of the backglass was broken too. This was a real bummer to me...I got a great deal on the machine and now I'll have to pay for replacement parts AND wrangle with the shipping company on the claim. Luckily I found the damage before I signed for the shipment and made sure they marked it on the bill of lading.
The second problem was that when I plugged it in, it wouldn't start!
gonk It came on a pallet with the legs removed so we tried plugging it in and lifting it up to turn on the switch on the underside of the machine.
I called the guy I bought it from and he was really polite but had no idea why it wouldn't work. So I decided that I'd at least put the legs on and set it up...another pain, because the damn thing weighs nearly 250 pounds. After we got it on it's legs, I put the plug in and decided to try again. And this time it worked! I think that perhaps the plug in the back of the machine had come loose the first time we tried it out.
The machine is awesome. It's actually at my work right now but after this claims thing is figured out, I'll be bringing it home to roost with the other machines.

Maybe more to come later.
