I'm an idiot... T.T
So. I had started signing up for the SATs way back yonder.
Except I faltered last moment, because I didn't want to ask my parents that early for the money... And now, on the deadline (well, the original deadline, since it just got extended to the 19th)...now here I am discovering there are no more high schools in Manhattan offering to proctor the exam (the last one had some weird bug and refused to complete the order form...). *sigh* Though my dad said he'll drive me to the Brooklyn one...so I guess all is well. xP
Other things aside, today went smoothly. Well, there is a Spanish test tomorrow that is terrorizing me (yes, got a reason to be suspicious of the lady who teaches me Spanish... =_=''), so I'm cramming right now, but other than that... First period was Spanish class, and we had our cinco de mayo party.
For lunch, my friend's grandmother baked this prettyful big pineapple sponge-cake (with chocolate sprinklings on top) for me. My other friend placed this sparkler candles in the cake...and well it was really hard to blow them out (they kept flickering back). So in the end, my more pyrophilic friend made a daring move...and squashed the ends of the candles WITH HER BARE HANDS, effectively extinguishing the flames. But...I am really pyrophobic...so went into brief shock... xDD And then kept poking her asking if her finger was ok.
Junior lunch period is only twenty minutes on Tuesday so I had to choose between either the cake or my dad's packed lunch (he made my favorite fried noodles). Course I chose the cake though (after muttering a mental apology to my dad). They started selling ice cream at my school today too (since Lent is over now) but our table couldn't get any since we didn't even get to eating our bought/packed foods.
My parents are both really sick... Mother caught a cold and she gave it to father... O_o I'm like the only one still intact in health right now in the house. So they ended up giving me money and promised they would compensate with an actual party when they get better. If we bought cake and go out to the seafood restaurant as usual, my dad swore my mom is going to get even more sick, because she loves chocolate mousse and there's nothing (literally) stopping her from finding the cake a new home: in her tummy. xO
Yeah. My family's weird. xDD But then lots of weird things happened on birthdays, even discounting my mom's habit of tunneling through the cakes every year. Last year, on my dad's birthday (his is two days from New Year's)...I walked really far to Taipan (the best bakery in Manhattan) to get him his cake... So I walked back and this 'absolutely darling bird' decided to pass overhead and yeah...the annoying things birds do. -_-'' I swallowed a pout and tears, deciding it was no good to throw a tantrum in the middle of the streets (and decided protecting the cake from the bustling crowd came first). And...when I got home that day, something was wrong with the hot water. *shiver* It's cold just remembering it... >_<''
Then there's the other adventures, like during Mother's Day fighting with the florists that their carnations aren't quite top quality... xP Haha, speaking of which...I really should get started looking for a bouquet early. Dun really wanna visit the florists who nearly kicked me out after I insulted their flowers and took too long inspecting each one. xDD Hey, good quality flowers and a good deal rarely comes hand in hand... xP Once one lives in Chinatown long enough, it's a given learning not to carelessly buy just anything. >_<''
Yeah. The lengths my family goes for each other. rofl

Next time they complain about you taking a long time to inspect goods in Chinatown, tell them REAL Chinese do it that way!!!
I'm pyrophilic. : D We'd make a team!
What's cinco de mayo confused
Your food sounds really good.. ;_;
And in Hong Kong, if you don't book a month in advance, you're pretty much guaranteed not to have a seat anywhere.

@ Cyborg - Haha. *sweatdrops* Spanish is first period tomorrow too... Right after Chorus (which actually starts before the day's classes officially begins). xP
@ Citrus - Hm...to be precise. Sophomores are the only fortunate enough to have a fixed lunch period. Both Freshmen and Sophomores have 40 minute periods for lunch.
...Juniors aren't as lucky. Some of us don't have 40 minute lunches at all during the week... The rest of us either have one 40 minute lunch period during Wednesdays or Thursdays (mine is on Thursday). xP And to think my middle school had an hour lunch period (but then...it's all 1 hr classes)... But still! xP One whole hour! And there's recess, too...
@ mommy - Haha. Come to think of it...that's true. ;D All Chinese (well, the old generation like my parents especially) are paranoid of checking their products. xP
I don't quite remember when I became so afraid of fire... Before it was just a slight wincing looking at fire... But then again...I was always afraid of cooking because of the fire... It may have something to do with what my mom told me about her manager two years ago...or more likely, it just intensified the fear. Her son was killed in a house fire (it was on the news in New York). The worst...it was during December - the Christmas season - too...
Maybe it's my mom's fault after all...she happens to be horribly excellent at story-telling. She attended the wake and went into lurid detail describing it to me...especially the paying respects to the body part... xP
Cinco de Mayo (literally Fifth of May in Spanish). It's a Mexican festival-holiday that reflects cultural pride. Many people think it's their independence day, but that's not true. It's not mandated as a federal holiday but more like...hm... I don't have a good analogy for this one but I suppose something like England once celebrating the Glorious Revolution, except cinco de mayo in this case enjoyed long-term remembrance.
...to be honest, I find it surprising a single battle is immortalized that long. But since I hadn't studied the France vs Mexico part into detail, I can't honestly put a nail into it. But it makes me wonder why Americans don't celebrate the battles of Lexington and Concord, or at least Yorkton....or maybe Gettysburg... ._. Maybe it's because of the difference in enthusiasm between the two countries. xDD
