Mekania WoefulInfinity Haha, as for my preferred style of bragging...? I've slept with PB, Kuroitora, Artbone... lol. XD; "What happens at Katsucon stays at Katsucon" That's my favorite kind of bragging too XD I almost got groped by Jaded in bed but she missed and grabbed my nose instead! Orenji ate half my fruit parfait! etc. Audley In any case, I think you're popular and I think people are afraid to talk to you - you kick arse far too much and you're against so many of the things that people love (and which are obnoxious - like the so-called word "arts"). And I definitely agree with this. DX Orenji, Matt, and toby never did their rain dance for me! And lol, people have said I'm scary IRL. I think it's cuz i have black hair and wear dark colors, lol. (Not that much black tho)

Orenji, Matt, and Toby are loud, loud (but extremely talented!) little boys sad
And Toby sleeps in the tiniest places XDD
I'm kind of quiet in person...so I guess I'm not that much different from the way I am online.

Mekania And I definitely agree with this. And that is why I love you. Well, one of the reasons why. Thank you (: I recognise their names, but I see them more on dA than Gaia (because I'm rarely ever around Gaia, and when I am I'm not really here. Er). I don't really commission anyone "expensive" on Gaia - I don't have the gold (; On a semi-related topic - I find it very hard to take the people who use their Gaia shop rules as a template for their real money commissions. Those essay-length shop rules are pretty obnoxious, anyway- I don't commission those people on Gaia and I certainly wouldn't commission anyone with similar real dosh commission information. You know the ones I'm talking about - they have those things where you have to quote a random phrase like "Bananas are invading the Earth and bringing back disco!" to prove that you actually read the rules - give me a break (;

Lol @ Audley - Well, all those artists were Gaia-active way back in the day ('05, probably).
As for the other topic - I always feel like I write too much for "rules." It's not really necessary for you to read it all. But it's there just in case someone screws up or something, and I tried to make it a step-by-step process for both parties' efficiency (No really, before I had those rules, I had some girl who made me alter a sketch five times - three of which to see which direction a curl of hair would look best). It gets frustrating, though, when people don't read the rules - like, they try to weasel discounts out of you and stuff. A number of rules I have just ot make sure I'm not screwed over for having not made something clear (I've been nabbed a few times into doing couple commissions for single price that way.)
Unfortunately, I suck at staying within a certain word limit. Maybe I should re-arrange my page so the prices are at the top. But then again, there are prices and specials and stuff like that... and just because it's so much information, people get too scared to read it. A lot more people buy when I say "Look, you can get one of these for this much". I guess taht's why CG artists have the advantage - they don't have to make a price grid with the forty million media possibilities they have. I suppose laziness trumps desire for variety?
U_U ... I swear I had good intentions.

In that front, I find it best to just "pick and choose" what prices you list. Not that I've wrangled money out of anyone I don't play NeverwinterNights with, BUT, I only have prices listed for digital media and "marker headshots"', but people who look over my samples - if they *are* interested in a full marker drawing, they will specifically ask me "Can I have that", "How much", etc. I figure as long as YOU have your price grid for your own reference, you should be safe from people trying to haggle the price. You just stay firm on "No, this is what it is."
What I might suggest, about "too much rules", if you find that you do need a very long explanation, is to try to find one controlling sentence that summarizes the whole thing, and make a "short version." Assume for the purposes of the short version that the individual reading it is not an idiot, but make a longer version with the full "deal" and link it at the bottom of the Short One.

I always skip the rules as well. Just an 'I'm open for commissions' is good enough. For others as well as myself. I mean, what's wrong with discussing it through a couple of messages? It's way more personal and comfortable.

I read the rules and then miss out on slots! xd
Nah, I usually skim through them and make sure I'm not breaking anything major. But I agree that some rules are waaaay too lengthy and the artist should be shot for having them.
And Woe, them being in SE-Asia does NOT equal close proximity! It's a whole different country, which means having to checking whether you need a visa to visit, exchanging money, booking flights, bla bla bla gonk
Also, I'm a grammar nazi, so I find a lot of artists from that region have horrible English, so I cringe when I try to communicate with them. I don't hate them because of it, but it's just hard.
But about the UK, I have no excuse rofl

Bloody hell, now I'm wondering if this is why I haven't gotten many requests as of late. Do you guys think this is too much? http://www.fongmingyun.com/commissionsOr are my prices just exceedingly high?

That reminds me about pricing thing. I guess it depends on your nationality and your speed. For example, I can pixel about 4 times faster than the average pixel artist. And right now the Netherlands is being invaded by Poles because they simply earn much more here than over there. In some countries you can just do more with 30 dollars than in others (though right now, I really wouldn't want any dollars anyway because of the course ^^; ) (edit: Oh just realised, that wasn't in any way an intention to insult Polish people. Just a random example. Kocham ciÄ™.)

I don't know if I should put this in "I'm an artist, too", but I figured more people would see it here. For those of us that have OCs and like to draw, this was a really fun distraction from exams:

Hey that one's actually awesome. Didn't that take lots of time though? o.o
Most people who do them just make me aggressive. (No you're NOT funny and that does NOT look good in any way.)
edit: and I never did end up responding to your post ^^; I think your prices are fine. Pretty cheap actually. And your rule thing, it's ok. It's really just some customer friendly information, not a you've got to quote something stupid to show that you've read it thing.
