"I leave prayer to the priests."

a frown at them, before giving Des a nod toward the door. she gave a slight nod in return. she knew what her job was going to be right now. Watch Kanzec. Once she left, Hunter looked over to Gem.

"You feel it, don't you. even right now, you get the feeling there is a noose tightening. To be honest, I'm considering ditching all of them and cutting my losses. this is getting to be far more trouble than it's worth. a safe port in that city does no good to a dead crew and a sunk ship."

Des looked out from the deck, keeping an eye on Kanzec...though she couldn't help but notice someone else. the sky blue was in a humanoid form...and lord she was tiny. like a dwarf. and looked an awful lot like someone else in certain regards. hmm. could Bell be a spy from the riders, to infiltrate the city?

"Yes, yes I am."

before putting away his pistol and crossing his arms. they were at least smart enough to pick up on the idea of covering their ears to prevent sound from hurting them. he didn't think it'd be that effective against cannon fire, but a tap on his shoulder got his attention instead. So he left the children things to walk over to where the woodworkers were doing their thing, and taking a look at the results so far.

"parts. moving parts that come off. like a child's doll. something that will make them want it, and then see if they'll trade for it. I want them to be able to 'accidentally' break it when they 'play' with it. let his own pet kids be his demise. would seem a bit fitting."

"Don't we as pirates always feel the noose? Let Kaznec do what's needed of him and then we'll go from there. If you want to mutniy on them all, then feel free too...don't expect me to talk you out of it but don't expect me to join you. We're pirates but we do have reputations in that city...which does have nice port you have to admit. Besides...I was born there. I can't help but feel a little loyalty." Shaking her head and tipping her hat back some out of her line of vision. "Though if you are making tracks, at least leave me updated maps so I may get back to the more favorable sandseas.

"No, this is our first time." Which is probably why they were very lost but still unwilling to admit it blatantly. The black dragon had interesting information though, still somewhat concealing but it sounded plausible at the very least. "I won't fight you, I have no desire to stay in this place or in my other form for so long. Why do you avoid Ilindal?" And he assumed that it had something to do with the city itself or his parents... He'd never seen the black even when she was alive... Back to the important and less personal subjects though and he listened carefully, tracing the map in his mind. "In other words, to leave the salt beds we would have to engage the Riders..." Not a comforting thought but they had no choice, did they? The captain probably knew a bit about the sand currents but he continued to mull on the potential risks of it all.

"Sometimes more than others."

a slight smirk.

"why would I leave updated maps to someone that's not planning to join me if I cut and run, and will probably be bringing the cargo I'd be ditching? But I'm not ready to cut my losses just yet. I'm just reaching the end of my rope."

Desdemona was shifting her sights between both bell and the little one, and Kanzec, before deciding to go back to Hunter's cabin, opening the door and gesturing.

"Captains...I think you both need to see something."

leading them on deck and making a gesture to Bell and sky.

"Notice a certain amount of striking similarities?"

"Ilindal is for those who take to their neutral forms with more easy going tendencies. There's literally no room to stretch your wings and such. Besides...we're dragons. A desert is nothing to us that we can't best. Things have been this way a long time, you grow used to them. Ilindal is too cautious for my tastes." Flexing his claws a moment in the sand. "Well, not engage. You could always slip past them with well devised plan or with the proper allies. Of course you could always turn around and go back the long way."

"Oh gee thanks Hunter...I love you too." Rolling her eyes she shook her head in irritated fashion. What happened to honor among theives? But letting it go she merely gave a dismissive noise. "If I'd known you were more likely to strand me I think I'd take my chances with Fang..." Looking back to Desi as she decided to come back...with concerns this time. "Better not be anything of annoyance." Thusly walking out and onto deck, looking to where attention was being put over on her own ship. A blink, "Well...that's new....and yes yes I do." Uh oh...that could mean bad things. "Interesting turn of events...so what Desi>"

Sky was having herself a blast more or less figuring out how to walk and what not. If she fell she merely got her half clothed self up and took to trying again, trying to find some balance. Though granted she was less top heavy than Bell, seeing as her horns were proportioned to her smaller body and thus smaller themselves. Less weight but still top heavy.

Great...now she had to babysit it or something. "Would you just sit down?" She had no paitence with this thing, mostly because of her own feelings toward it...and jealousy at how fast she seemed to be catching on.

Kaz had his own suspicions about this but still, he listened intently. From his perspective, Ilindal was for those that could accept authority and be loyal to the city. The black dragon didn't seem like the type. "Yes, I'm sure you travel great distances in one day. Neutral form has its advantages though." Unless it was himself and that was always going to be his undoing but he tried to make the best of it. "The Riders are astute, aren't they? They know the salt beds well and if their posts are as close together as you say, then they'll likely notice us." A light frown at those options. The captains had the last say in course and destination but he could still have concerns, and he did. "We have to move on, there's nothing to be found if we turn around."

"Yes it does in this Storm torn world. Don't have to eat as much, body temperature easier to stabilize, less of a target and such. But I suppose I cling to the old ways." Tilting his head then in that curious manner. "Nothing to be found? Are you looking for something then, nephew?" Insert playing stupid. Perhaps if things had turned out different, if Lycear wasn't such a shoddy dragon then he wouldn't be tricking the boy. However, when an opportunity struck the wise hunter took it. "Riders are astute yes. But they are not stupid...I'm sure you've thoguht to yourself...what am I doing free roaming in Rider territory, yes?"

Hunter glanced at them, and nodded lightly.

"Does Kanzec know, I wonder. or does he suspect."

Desdemona looked at Gem.

"what do you mean so what. little blue is a Rider dragon. and judging by looks, I'd say Bell is too. what if she was trained specifically to gather information? what if she was trained to act like she does, until some command word or signal gets relayed and then poof, she's gone. along with whatever she might know that might be valuable."

Hunter smirked.

"And you called me paranoid."

Desdemona poked him in the chest.

"Riders live you here. Bell is from the city. how, I wonder, did she survive to get out of these saltbeds, into the city in the first place. and egg certainly didn't roll itself that distance. something would have eaten it."

"So because they both are smooth bodied dragons you're going to say she's a Rider dragon too? You all don't even know how old she is, but to me she seems at least two hundred...why would Riders wait that long? Let alone most of them live long enough to remember. Rider dragons are beasts and nothing more, that's how they're raised." Tapping her finger to her lips, after all it was plausible. "But yes Hunt, I apologize. Desi you're much more paranoid." Tilting her head. "Wonder how dragon eggs taste...but Desi's ideas are...scarily plausible. But do you want to risk turning the dragon's against us with your supicions that could indeed be unfounded?"

He was listening and observing at the same time, judging his... uncle... to be his mother's older brother, if that's really who he was. But a stare back into equally golden eyes and he realized what he had almost done. Trust had to be earned. "Looking for... new destinations to explore. It would be pointless to go back the way we came but unfortunately, we did come into with un-updated maps." And indeed, it seemed like his uncle could read his mind. This triggered his suspicions once again but he merely glanced back at the ships for a moment, then nodded. "Yes, I was wondering that. Unless your presence here is acknowledged by them or you've managed to elude them somehow." Or he had made a deal with them... Or... His mind kept racing but he shook his head to try and clear some thoughts before others invaded again. "Why does my father never talk about you?"

New destinations? Didn't trust him enough to tell him the truth. "With pirates and other young dragons. You've quite the taste for adventure...you get that from your mother." Hm, had to just keep at it. "O course you were, it's only natural to wonder such a thing. As I said, they're not stupid...they simply can't take down a large dragon of my size and age. I'm well set in my skin you could say. If they do go dragon hunting, they look for the younger more foolish ones, or the smaller ones. Otherwise they're thieves pure and simple." Eyes looking over to the ships and the activites, but it seemed he wasn't the main attraction anymore to worrisome pirates. "Your father and I have some...disagreeing thought I suppose one could call it. He failed and I've never forgiven him when he thinks that I perhaps should." Sighing lightly...even he didn't like to talk about certain subjects. "We honestly haven't seen each other for...cenutries now. Well...more of haven't been face to face."

It had been so long since he'd heard things like that. "You get such and such from your mother" or "you have your mother's eyes"... Suddenly uncomfortable again, he licked his lips and tried to refocus. "Then it is pretty advantageous to you and it's convenient too since you prefer that form. We have more to worry about though but I'm sure the captains will consider the information you provided." And then Hunt would probably throw it away because of his suspicions of the black, but for some reason Kaz agreed. "Failed to do what?" Why did it seem like the black had just randomly appeared and was now destroying his well-constructed world one illusion at a time? His father was his own hero; never failed and never would. Suddenly, he regretted having encouraged his uncle to talk about the past.

"To protect Laricalu." The order to things had been decided by her own choices, and by him abiding by her wishes he expected a high proformance out of the one who would then be charged with being part of her life. And yet, here it was centuries later and she was dead and all of them had to suffer for it. He should of ripped Lycear apart the day it happened, but no...he had a moment of weakness. Spare the father so he could tend to his son, Laricalu's only child. Some decisions were bad ones when you looked back at them. "Do tell, why are you following under pirate orders?" Not that he didn't know the answer but to the common observer, it seemed the Commander wasn't in command of anything.

Hunter frowned a bit, rubbing his chin.

"If Kanzec knows, that's one thing. if he doesn't, then it's a different animal. my guess is if he doesn't, he'll jump the hoops very quickly if he sees both of them together."

glancing between Des and Gem.

"Keep eyes on her, but nothing overt. odds are she's nothing more than what she appears to be, but it would be interesting to see what might get thrown our way. after all, the riders aren't known to give up thier prizes easily. they may seek to reclaim both of them."

That hit him like a slap in the face and he stared at the ground for a long time. His uncle was further reaffirming that he, Kaznec, had failed as well and he felt that cold feeling sink into his gut again. This really had been a bad idea and he unconsciously took a step backwards from this source of pain until the question pulled his eyes back up to look at the black. "I'm not. Not fully. I have no experience sailing or of navigating the salt beds, it's reasonable to let the captains lead in terms of destination and our path of travel." It was how Eilynne had explained it as well; everyone had a part to play and it made sense, didn't it?
