TeaDidikai Why was it that members of the LDS Church gave Boxy infused guranna on his mission? Don't know, I'm not a telepath/clairsentient that might read people's minds in the past, why don'tcha ask them? I could venture guesses as to what was on the list of proscriptions might change over time. Or they were just being negligent to their bans. Keep in mind, the use of alcohol and tobacco as in poultices and the like was allowed, just not the consumption. Quote: From the sections I have read, I haven't seen any reference to these. Could you provide the chapter and verse please? Sure, give me a couple weeks to dig them out. I'll share the part that you have a right to know. Not all of it is open to the uninitiated, and therefore not within the realms of what I am willing to share. I'll inquire with the local bishop to see if certain explanations and practices are now allowed to be shared, however, they were not for public consumption when I got them. A fair majority were established from one president to the next with clarification from one to the next. Quote: If this is so, why does the LDS not prohibit other plant forms, such as blueberries, blackberries, walnuts etc? Because their pseudo-science is/was weak. Keep in mind, the parts regarding the First Presidency were current to the Hinckley era. Monson has something of a very different agenda. The Word of Wisdom, while the text remains constant, changes in application with remarkable fluidity. Observing the soda/cola debates is always fun. I assume you are referring to D&C 89 regarding prohibition against "hot drinks" that same entry prohibits "strong drinks" as well. These are matters subject to interpretation if we look at them literally. With context of the Church leader(s) of the time, we find the admonition to be targeted at tea and coffee (hot drinks) and alcohol (strong drinks). It also cautions against eating too much meat and extols the virtue of grains. The Word of Wisdom has been built upon generation after generation. Interpretations change with Presidency and ward/stake(so long as they don't contramand the presidency).

Celeblin Galadeneryn Recursive Paradox Calixti Recursive Paradox Celeblin Galadeneryn Still, not liking it is no reason shoot or set a dog on a solicitor, as one of the people I was debating with suggested. o_O That's really ******** up. Yeah, those people are stupid. I would just ask the proselytizers to leave, politely, and if they didn't I would call the police. That's what I do. Or, if it's cold out, tell them I'm not interested but invite them in for tea to warm up before they move on. I would do that normally. I dunno if error would be okay with strangers in the house though. Some won't anyways. I think Tea said she had a similar experience, but my friend tried to invite some Mormons in for coffee but they didn't like the idea of being alone with a woman. Ah. TeaDidikai Also, the LDS aren't fond of tea and coffee while on their mission. I'd prolly remember to offer something like juice if they were Mormons.

TeaDidikai You said it was from parts of books that I can read over the internet. I'm just asking for the specific parts. Problem is, the Word of Wisdom is interpreted differently by different First Presidents. As the President is considered a living prophet and sorta a divine mouthpiece, it leads to "clarification" from time to time. As it stands, Monson's stances are more than a little divergent from Hinckley's, making my original point less than moot. Or rather, so out-dated as to be irrelevant, sorry about that, I haven't been keeping up. sweatdrop I have links for some of Hinckley's letters clarifying the Word of Wisdom, but they are largely irrelevant to today's church. As usual, I'm decades out-moded. wink Doctrine and Covenants 89 is the part that gets clarified the most as it were.

TeaDidikai "Loki and Kali are my Lord and Lady." Now, that is naughty. There is nothing wrong with having a dark lord and lady.

lioness of midnight TeaDidikai "Loki and Kali are my Lord and Lady." Now, that is naughty. There is nothing wrong with having a dark lord and lady. Ah, but there is something wrong with cultural misappropriation, a fundamental bastardization of foreign deities that people don't understand. Also- dark? Hi. Last I checked, neither of these deities were afraid of the light. How about the fact that we want people to be thoughtful. Do you think Kali is going to be psyched about being placed in a position where she is a concubine to a Norse deity? I mean, it wasn't like Loki had a wife and kids or anything... Oh wait! He did! And come to think of it, last I checked, even though Kali was standing on the body of her husband, she was still a wife. How about some basic scholarship? How about showing a minimal understanding of world religions before we horrifically rape other people's sacred traditions and beliefs in order to make us feel oh so speshul for worshiping a "dark lord and lady"? rolleyes

People sure do like to throw around "Dark" a lot without having a ******** clue what it means. Dark gods, dark goddesses, dark lady. If the fluffies wanna deal with Darkness, they can play with Void.
Few things are as dark as that which devours even radiance.
