From what I understand, Gion replied slowly, racking his brain for the details, there were two elves from the Westland who were adventurers of a sort ... they went traveling and found the Southland. They were delighted, really it was an adventure for them and they had no idea there were other elves in the world. As the first visitors from their distant relatives in I believe nineteen thousand years, or more, Alyse invited them to stay at the castle as her honoured guests.
He paused a moment. The one of them fell in love with Alyse's eldest daughter, and they married ... and had a daughter ... Krista. When she was but two years old, they moved back to the Westland, and only a few short years later the two of them were killed in a fire. Krista looked like the Southland elves, but she had a Westland education - which of course excluded us. And she didn't know she was a princess, her parents had decided to tell her when she was older, so that she could grow up like a normal child ... but of course they didn't get the chance so she never knew.
It wasn't until she was nearly forty years old, when Alyse's husband was killed, that she found out. Alyse wanted the whole family together, including her daughter - she didn't know she was dead - and so she sent men to call them all back. By this time of course Krista was married and had a daughter of her own ...
He grinned inwardly. Ulani.
He ran his fingers through his hair and shook out some of the sand. Anyways, they were shocked. They didn't know there were elves in the Southland, let alone that their grandmother - or greatgrandmother in Ulani's case - was Queen. At any rate, they came and met the rest of the family ... and that was just the beginning of a long and complicated story.
Gion narrowed his eyes and sighed.

Your family history would be that long and complicated story.
Daemon read into the sigh.
It's okay, that is very interesting, and Ulani's background is very interesting.

Gion chuckled again. Oh, it gets even more complicated, he assured Daemon. If you'd like I can tell you more ... or more about the land ... or whatever you want to know.
He was very happy to have someone to talk to, to share his knowledge with, who was willing to listen to him ...

Well... where are we travelling? What is that like? All you've said is that they have four seasons that has snow. Daemon decided to find out since he couldn't find out for himself.

Well, I don't know for sure, Gion admitted. I've never been out of the Southland before, and the Borderlands is pretty far north ... I'm told there's forest there, and more mountains ... but other than that I don't know anything about it myself.
He smiled. But if you'd like I'll show it to you once we get there, he offered.

That would be good.
Daemon just thought of something.
I hope you're prepared for when it snows if it's snowing there.

Gion thought about that for a minute. I had forgotten about that, he admitted reluctantly. It IS their winter time there ... but I'm sure I'll be all right, I've got warm clothes and extra blankets and a thicker cloak ...

Daemon hoped so, he also hoped that they didn't get bad snowstorms, that wouldn't be nice at all.
I hope so.

Gion nodded his agreement, though he knew Daemon couldn't see it.
So is there any other thing in particular you would like to hear about? he asked pleasantly.

Hmm.... There's a lot and at the same time it doesn't really matter all that much. I'm use to hearing about all sort of things.
Daemon would have shrugged thougthfully at the thought.
Do you like music?

I do, Gion replied slowly, but I have no skill. I can play no instruments, and obviously I can't sing ...
He brightened up a bit. But I can listen to others, and it gives me a peaceful feeling inside.

Maybe you just haven't found an instrument you like, but listening to music is lovely too.
Daemon replied happily.
All kinds of music tend to be.

Ah, but there are a great deal of instruments I like, Gion replied sadly. But I'm a fighter, not a musician: my skill is with a blade.
Granted it had been by choice that he had become a fighter - but it was not by choice that he didn't know how to play a single instrument.

Well I'm a scholar and not a fighter.... like I said... Yume did try to teach me... those lessons she prefer not to recall them any time soon after the fact. Daemon chuckled a bit at the thought.

Gion chuckled at that. That sounds like peoples' reactions after my attempts at learning to play an instrument, he told Daemon. Those who didn't run away, plugging their ears, would immediately take the instrument away from me and tell me to go find something else to do.
