"Army?" Brayden gawked, staring blankly at the child. Could it be that something happened to bring them to the time before the temple was sunk into the ocean? Uh oh... Now he thought he knew why what the three trainers knew as Lilycove was called Lilygrove by the child in front of them. The question was, how in the world did this happen?
"Uh, right, we came... a different way," Brayden agreed. Not entirely sure what that way was exactly, but he figured that was the best route to take currently, especially if the child asked a question about the Labyrinth that Brayden wouldn't have any clue on what to answer, having never been there.
Wait... could the child mean what he knew as the path past the Weather Institute and on to Fortree?
Only further confusing himself, Brayden shook his head, turning his attention back to the conversation at hand. He blanched, hearing Kaya's shouted exclamation.
"You mean we somehow got brought back in time somehow?" he squeaked, trying his best not to let the child hear. The last thing he thought they needed was someone from this time knowing of their origins, he thought.
"Any clue on why, how, or what's going on?" he asked, completely baffled.

"Uh, right," the child nodded after a slight pause and a curious glance at the group, "Quess is guarding the Labyrinth from land attacks, but most of the forces are gathered off the coast against Valsindar's army. Valsindar's trying to take Lilygrove, mainly for the Sea Star, but of course its a good strategic spot as well. I'd have thought you'd have know that at least. I mean, its been all over the news ring lately. Everyone's been talking about it, so, for the most part, everyone's abandoned Lilygrove, thinking it useless. After all, Valsindar has the reformed Sword of the Slayer, so no one's been able to stop him yet..." "But we're not giving up," he declared, hands on his hips. "We're not giving up the Star..." "Wait, you're not mercenaries, are you?" the child asked, taking another glance at the three. "It seems like everyone who comes to Lilygrove these days are either mercenaries offering to fight for tons of money, or people trying to convince us to give up and let Valsindar take over..."

"We like to call ourselves heroes but I guess...in a sense, we are mercenaries. But we don't want money for helping people, just knowing that we helped is enough for us." Kaya told the kid. The Sword of the Slayer sounded powerful, and hadn't the kid said it was a reformed sword? Maybe that was what it was the team were after back in the present.
"To be honest kid, we're just passing through here if we can help it. If we get caught up in the middle of this...we'll stay and help, but otherwise we have other places to be as fast as we can get there." he said calmly, hoping the boy didn't think them bad people for that.
He turned to Brayden and Nona after a moment and whispered something to them, trying to hide his scorched right arm behind him, though the kid could probably see it easily enough."It's best if we stay out of this and try not to interfere if we don't have to. If we do anything noticeable, it could have huge effects on our time." he told them in a whisper, trying to keep anyone else from hearing.

Nona still was gripping onto the Great Pretender, her tail shaking a little bit. "...Well...this is odd..." She said, after looking around when the light faded.
Nona nodded, returning her Wooper. "Yeah...just think...if we really mess up, then...well...I dunno, something bad could happen." Yes, Nona, you're the master of the articulate.
She took out Dominic instead, discretely, letting him rest on her shoulder. "...I wish I could have taken my Trapinch out of my box before this happened though..." She muttered, now regretting it.
"...It's true. We just want to go through, if we can help it," the youngest of the current group repeated, Dominic nodding even though he didn't know what was going on.

"So you're not greedy mercenaries then, that's a relief," the kid sighed, grinning again. He perked up slightly seeing Dominic and The Great Pretender, "So you're traveling trainers, then? That's cool. I have a Pokemon, an Eevee, Artemis," he laughed, "We're not champion material or anything, but we can hold our own fairly well." "Well, of course we can't force you to participate in the battle, that's your own choice. If you'd like to leave town, we have the route westward of here. I can guide you if you need help. The choice is up to you."

The boy nodded again, still smiling warmly, "I've bet you've seen some really neat things while traveling, though!" he beamed, nodding yet again, "I'm sure you have a ton of interesting stories to tell." He took a glance over his shoulder, there were still a few people making their way through the meeting hall. "It looks like things are about to start..." he commented to himself, shifting slightly as he turned back to the group, "Well, do you think you guys would like to stay or not. Although most of the entrances are guarded heavily now, there are still plenty of passages hidden in this place that can easily get you outside. Otherwise, most of the resistance is meeting in the tactitian's room down that set of stairs," he pointed to the far end of the room, where a staircase met the room, leading down. "The choice is yours, I can lead you out, or down."

Brayden nodded, still kind of stuck in the middle as he considered their options. On one hand, what could go wrong? A lot. The danger of re-writing history didn't seem to be an easy thing to do and have it done right, especially when the smallest decision could very well change the whole of Lilycove back in their own time. It could very well mean that there wouldn't be a Lilycove to return to, if things didn't work out the way they should.
Yup, his mind was running in circles again, doing nothing but further confuse him. Brayden shook his head, shaking his internal argument from his mind, taking a different vantage point on it. On the other hand, Brayden had ALWAYS had a difficult time in not helping out when he could, no matter the situation. His events on his own in Celadon a few months back were a painful enough reminder of that fact. So even though he was scared of what they might screw up, he couldn't help but wonder if they really could help out in this war that was brewing.

"Alright, so that's your choice," he nodded, not able to conceal his smile of relief. From what he had seen, these trainers were pretty strong, so it was definitely a good thing to find some people honestly willing to help. "I'll take you to Lady Lucretia's room then," he closed the doorway he had opened in the wall, before darting along the side of the room, and down the staircase that he had referred to earlier.

((No worries, it gets a chance for some experience, if nothing else. And I have fun with battles, no matter what they're up against.))
Brayden was following along behind their guide for the time being, but couldnt' help but stop as a canine darted in front of him, growling low. At first, he suspected the Mightyena had caught on to them not being from this time, but as he thought about it, it seemed the Mightyena was more interested in Brayden being in his turf than being from another time period.
Seeing that he wasn't about to back down, Brayden sighed, shaking his head, "Aella, come on out, try your best, lets see if you can take him down," he called quietly to the Doduo, who emerged from her Pokeball, talons clicking on the tile of the room.
"Duuuuuuo," both heads recited in unison, staring down the Mightyena calmly.

"Alright girl, start off with Fly," Brayden advised the small bird, who nodded both her heads, agreeing amongst herself for once, before flapping, a bit clumsily, to gain altitude above the Mightyena. A bit unsteady on her wings, definitely preferring running to Flying, Aella chirruped, awaiting further instruction.

The Mightyena snarled, leaping up, but not coming close to the Doduo. He snapped at her talons, trying to Bite her, but he couldn't quite reach, much to both Brayden's and Aella's relief.
((Mightyena used Bite, but the attack misses))
Brayden was then about to instruct Aella to complete her attack, but paused, hearing her let out a suprised cry. Unable to hold her weight up in the air, the Doduo plummetted to the ground, slamming into the Mightyena, who also let out a suprised cry, landing in a jumbled heap on the floor.
"Um... well, that wasn't entirely what I had planned, but I guess it works?" Brayden blinked.
((Aella used Fly... kinda... Mightyena -55, 235/290))
Snarling angrily, the Mightyena whirled, clamping down onto Aella with his jaws. Aella shrieked, flailing as she tried to free herself from his reach.
((Mightyena used Bite, -35 Aella, 155/190))
"Okay Aella, try another Fly," Brayden called to the Doduo, who broke free from the Mightyena's teeth, flapping hard, this time eager to get back up in the air. There weren't any teeth in the air...
((Aella flew up high))
The Mightyena growled low, a bit angered by the Doduo's tactics. Trying an Assurance this time, the Mightyena leaped into the air, clawing at Aella, who only zipped out of the way, swaying a bit on her unsteady wings, but managing to avoid the attack.
((Mightyena used Assurance, but the attack misses))
"Alright, this time, try a bit more coordination," Brayden laughed, shaking his head as Aella chirped her protest, "You can't get any better if you don't try," he advised. The Doduo considered this for a moment, before one head nodded in agreement.
The other shook in disagreement.
Brayden sighed, training a Doduo would definitely be interesting, "Alright, fine, do it your way," he shrugged, not really sure which head would win out.
Aella dove, slamming into the Mightyena again, letting out her war cry, which was pretty much just a long "Duuuuuuuuuuuu!"

Recovering from the blow, the Mightyena darted forward before Aella could take to the air again, Tackling her to the ground. Both heads glared up at the canine, who smirked triumphantly, letting out a howl of assumed victory.

Brayden, seeing the death glare, smiled faintly, "Fury Attack," he instructed the Doduo next. This time both heads didn't have any problem agreeing on the course of action.

Still from her position belly up on the floor, Aella snapped forward with both her beaks, lashing out against the Mightyena, driving the surprised canine back with both beaks and talons, gaining a bit of payback for the earlier assault.

Taking a moment to recover his footing from the assault, the Mightyena struck back with an Assurance, darting forward, dark energy surging around him as he snarled at Aella, who bravely stood her ground.

"Okay, Aella, take to the air again, use Fly!" Brayden called to the Doduo, who nodded, flapping her small wings once again to raise a bit less clumsily off the floor again.

Aella didn't need any further instruction from Brayden this time, taking the opportunity to dive-bomb the canine again, striking hard and fast.

The Mightyena took the chance to charge forward again, teeth leading, as he clamped down on Aella again before she could rise from the blow. Aella shrieked again, panting slightly, but defiantly standing up to the Mightyena, chirruping angrily.

"Hang in there girl, we've almost got him," Brayden called encouragingly to his partner, who nodded both heads resolutely, "Use Fly one last time, and we've got him."
The Doduo rose again, flapping hard to gain any airtime above the Mightyena. It was getting harder the weaker she got, as she wobbled uncertainly.
"You can do it!" Brayden called.
The Mightyena backed up a bit, before charging forward, leaping as high as he could, trying to Tackle Aella from the air. However, the small bird was just barely above his reach, heads bobbing in concentration as she tried to stay aloft.
"Duuuuuuuo!" both heads recited in unison, almost tauntingly.
((Mightyena uses Tackle, but the attack misses))
"Alright, now's your chance!" Brayden called to Aella, who nodded yet again, letting go of control of her wings altogether, and simply plopping on top of the Mightyena, letting the wonderful contraption of gravity do the work.
The Mightyena staggered for a moment, managing one last weak snarl, before collapsing on the tile.

"You did great," Brayden grinned, patting Aella, who chirped out a pleased "Duo!" as Bradeyn rummaged in his bag for a Potion. He had been worried about the Doduo for a while, unsure of whether she could take down an opponent who was clearly much stronger than her. But it looked like with a bit of luck, she came through with flying colors. So to speak, since she clearly needed to work on her flying a bit more.
Finding a Potion, Brayden opened it, before offering it to Aella.
To which both heads promptly started to quarrel over which one got to drink it.
Brayden sighed, shaking his head. He had thought he had finally gotten the strange bird to cooperate between her own two heads, but it looked like that would be a rare thing. Ah well, it was interesting to say the least. However, Brayden decided to let the Doduo sort it out with herself for the time being, standing as he watched the Mightyena slink off back into a dark corridor.
"The Mightyena Mafia seems to be after me," he joked offhandedly, as he recalled the healed Doduo back into her Pokeball. He wasn't quite sure what Aella had decided on with the Potion, but the Doduo was healed and ready to continue on.
